Title: WIP: Grandy
Grandy - May 12, 2007 03:52 PM (GMT)
So, I
was working on this upon a time, about 5 months ago, then school started and I had no time to finish this. Now I'll try and actually make a good number of poses so I can call it a spritesheet.
Also, I noticed this place is somewhat dead in comparison to when it opened, and felt like posting here.
I'm trying to keep it as much as possible as the original MMZ sprite, because that is the design I like for him.
The bases I utilized were:
-Kakashi, for most of the body and the hair.
-Frio (Thief) from Tales of the World, for the cloak.
-Usopp, for the waistband and boots.
-Roronoa Zoro/Ichigo for the face.
-Goku and... a guy with a briefcase and white suit I never saw before, for the arms.
Things that bother me:
-His chest when standing still. Looks broken and way too large.
-His arm. Looks out of place.
-Shading while standing still.

Progress:
Currently done:
-Stand Still
-Disappear
-Pablo (Though only one frame for now. I plan adding more later)
Need to be finished:
-Run
-Smoke bomb
-Walk (I'll have some trouble with this one)
-Knife throwing

It looks good, but I'm confused about the arms.
I one arm supposed to be sleeved, and the other bare? No, wait, you said that the standing sprite is unfinished. Never mind. But that's probably what makes the bare arm stand out.
Grandy - May 15, 2007 12:18 AM (GMT)
Well, yes, the arms is bothering me as well. I believe it's either what you said or I made it way too fat.
Anyway, the still pose is almost ready, the only thing that' still missing is another arm to substitute that one.
Meanwhile, I tried to make a "Running real fucking fast" pose based on captain Kuro's sprites. Turns out okay, I guess, though it could have been way better.

I'm also aware his cloak doesn't moves,
yet.
EDIT:
Way better.
Changed the torso to Zoro's, and also used his left arm. I think that settles at least for the standing still.
Grandy - May 16, 2007 05:56 PM (GMT)

Not the greates of the upgrades, but it's still tons of better.
I also managed to make some nice (in my opinion) disappearing effects, again based on Kuro's moves.

And... that's pretty much it for now.
I'm almost (I said almost) regreting have chosen Kakashi for the main base, for no reason at all, I just am.
Betatronic - May 16, 2007 11:41 PM (GMT)
Those are some nice improvements. On top of that, Grandy's really coming through as a character.
Grandy - May 17, 2007 12:15 AM (GMT)
I agree on the improvments, but what did you mean with "coming through as a character"?
Betatronic - May 17, 2007 12:57 AM (GMT)
AYB defines your character alot better than just using Zero Sprites. With this method, you can give your character an entirely unique looking sheet with personalized moves and attacks.
If I remember right, yours is a theif, so his moves depending on what you do, will be entirely his own, and recognizeable amoungst a group of characters.
ya dig? XD
Grandy - May 17, 2007 01:29 AM (GMT)
Yes, sounded like one of those advertises of polishop ("Tired of your old Zero based sprites? Of looking similar to everyone else? Then buy now your very own polishop AYB, with it's revolutionary..." etc. etc. XD ), but I get the picture. You meant he's pretty much unique, I like that.
At any rate, I'm afraid there won't be a large number of sprites or moves for him. Grandy... uh... never really did anything besides running, most likely from anything remotelly dangerous.
So, I guess, not really a large number of attacks. Most likely a Za Warudo kinda stuff, because it's one of his abilitites, and lot's of hiding, running and smoke bombing his way out of places. Maybe a knife throwing.
As a matter of fact, I'll try to make a list of the moves he will definatelly have. Once I'm done with these, I'll wait and see if I make more.

Ack, forgot to post.
The vanishing is cool, but maybe you should use a more dynamic pose before vanishing.
For all the RPGs I played, if a character in a neutral positon disintegrates like that, it means that it's a clone or an image or something. D'you get what I mean? I kind of explained it badly. >_>

I see, you meant he doesn't look like he was going to run, so it seems he just poofs. I think I'll keep it that way, though. That disappearing is how other people see him once he activates his Za Warudo-ness. You know, time slows down, he walks away, but to everyone else, it seems he just diappeared.
GrooveMan.exe - May 17, 2007 03:24 PM (GMT)
*googles 'Za Warudo'*
...
Ah, I thought that name sounded familiar. For the love of GOD, please tell me he doesn't have a steamroller attack. >_>
Grandy - May 17, 2007 04:30 PM (GMT)
Nope. That'd be silly, Grandy can't lift a rock the size of his head. Za Warudo is just the act of slowing down time, and even so it isn't really what Grandy does. He just gets so much faster eveything else slows down in comparison.
EDIT: Trying to get more organized.

The pose next to standing is Pablo. He's somewhat of a disguise Grandy uses while trying to hide. Nevermind the fact his mustache and hair arent of the same color, nobody ever noticed.
Also, yes, I used Bass.EXE for making the cloak. In my defence, it was the only good cloak I could find.
Grandy - May 19, 2007 02:15 PM (GMT)

Not a huge update, but a update nonetheless.
GrooveMan.exe - May 20, 2007 07:37 AM (GMT)
You've mentioned it already, but I find the Bass Cape very do-not-want. It's a good edit though. If you changed the colours of it, it might feel less Bassy.
Side note: My AYB topic got purged ;_; That's what I get for not updating, I guess.

No, no. You just can't see it because it hasn't been posted in 30 days. Just go to the AYB forum itself, and change the little thing at the bottom that says "The Last 30 Days" to "The Beginning". Then you'll see your topic.
Oh, and I'm liking that vanishing animation. Pretty spiffy looking.
Grandy - May 20, 2007 02:17 PM (GMT)
GrooveMan: As soon as I find a new cloak, I'll change. I don't like it either because it seems too huge, I was aiming for something more... slim. I tried to edit JUS Byakuya's outfit into a cloak, turned out not so good, so I'm leaving it Bass for the time being.
Edge: Thanks, I like that animation especially because it's 99% custom.
Grandy - May 28, 2007 09:48 PM (GMT)
Took me a while to update.

Finished the running, now starting on dashing.
Grandy - July 19, 2007 04:08 AM (GMT)
What? What you mean an update?
No one in would update after so long, especially for measly three frames, that'd be silly!
>.> <.<

Anyway, I'll leave Grandy in a (now official) hiatus to work in another project of mine, before it slips through my mind as every idea I have.
I should write stuff down.
