Title: Nostgalic Cartoons
Description: ITT, 'Oh shit, I remember that!'

Edwurdo - May 4, 2007 10:00 PM (GMT)
Pretty much your average 'Old-ass cartoons you thought were awesome as a kid' type topic really

Anonymous on /a/ started a thread about a TV series I adored watching as a child, a European cartoon called 'Alfred J. Kwak' that aired up until 1991 for two seasons

For the past half hour I've been reading about the show and remembering some much-loved memories of a cartoon that I thought I'd never get the chance to see again since it's an unfortunate rarity to come across anywhere the UK these days

So TFS, you got any classic cartoons from your childhood you miss / remember loving / feel like telling others about?

Edwardo Rocket - May 4, 2007 10:05 PM (GMT)
I miss Transformers. And I don't just mean G1, I mean Beast Wars (not Beast Machines) and Robots in Disguise.

I don't care what anyone thinks about RID, I liked it.

Wolf - May 4, 2007 10:08 PM (GMT)
Batman: The Animated Series was the cartoon I would watch the most when I was a kid. I also watched Rugrats and Kablam too.

DisgruntledPostalEmployee - May 4, 2007 10:09 PM (GMT)
Bucky O'Hare! Anyone remember that? I rented the entire series on DVD on a nostalgic impulse the other day, and I was surprised at how watchable it really was. Plus, the theme tune's brill.

For those who haven't seen it, it's a science fiction "space opera" starring a green rabbit who leads a ragtag crew of space adventureres against the evil Toads, who are basically space Nazis.

Edwurdo - May 4, 2007 10:23 PM (GMT)
I remember Bucky O'Hare

Used to have a whole tons of the figures from the toy line for a while as well

DisgruntledPostalEmployee - May 4, 2007 10:29 PM (GMT)
Myself, I just had Bucky and Toadborg. They were awesome toys though, with their little laser guns.

Oh, another cartoon I watched was Animals of Farthing Wood. I don't know if it was shown outside of Britain, though.

Grandy - May 4, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
I really liked the old Woody Woodpecker (spelt?) not the new one though, the new one sucks.

Histeria! Was also a majoer favorite of mine.

And Ducktales.

I better stop here. I made a 30-plus list last time someone made a similar topic.

Otaku no M - May 4, 2007 10:33 PM (GMT)
Freakazoid was and still is pretty hilarious.
It's also possible it might get a DVD release sometime.

Spider-Man: the animated series also got me hooked and I still like it even when keeping some of Fox's censorship backlashes in mind. (LOL LASERGUNS IN NEW YORK)

I'm also kinda interested in seeing more of the X-Men animated series since I saw surprisingly little of it.

'nuff said.

Well, its indeed a pleasure to see somebody remembers Bucky O'Hare. My mom wouldn't let me watch it when I was a kid, probably because of the Nazi Toad overtones seeing as how she's German and all. But I do have a handful of shows that I watched as wee little kid.

Scooby Doo - This was my favorite show until I was about five or six. I even had a VHS tape with nothing but this on it. Drove my mother batty.

Asterix & Obelix - I know our European members should recognize this, I grew up watching Asterix & Cleopatra. I think I still have the tape that we recorded it on somewhere. . . . By Jupiter!

Voltron - My first real anime I ever watched. Been hooked ever since. I have been recently picking up the re-releases that have come out on DVD. So far I have the Blue, Yellow and Green Lion sets. (Seasons 1, 2 & 3)

Thundercats - Another series I was hooked on.

The Raccoons - A fun series that was on Saturday mornings, can't really remember what the plot was supposed to be.

The old Looney Tunes - These are the ones that came out until the start of Tiny Toon Adventures. (That was a good one too)

Dragon Ball Z - My cousin got me watching this series as a teenager, still stuck on watching it today. I've got almost the entire series on VHS. I also enjoy the original series and the GT series.

More to come later, I don't wanna take up too much space. >:3

Ren & Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, Kablam!, and a bunch of others.

Tenjen Kouken - May 5, 2007 09:12 AM (GMT)
Thunder cats

Saber rider and the star sheriffs.

and what was it called...o ya Cybertron. Now that was a fantastic mecha anime.

Hazzardous - May 5, 2007 11:07 AM (GMT)
One can't really just pick one show to be risen from the dead, as one could never pick a exact favorite...or maybe it's just me as I'm rather a pluralist...

Given I would want most if not all of them back, I'd probably want (And in no order, year, or company whatsoever):

-Centurions
-Thundercats
-Darkwing Duck
-Reboot
-Beastwars
-Swatkats
-The Filmation Ghostbusters
-COPS
-Transformers
-Muppet Babies
-Pirates of Dark Water
-Doug
-Angry Beavers
-Spider-Man
-Gargoyles
-Animaniacs
-Freakazoid
-X-Men
-Eek the Cat and the Terrible Thunder Lizards
-King Authur and The Knights of Justice

This is prehaps just a microscom of what I would want back from my youth, but I do not wish to extend the reply any further

Tenjen Kouken - May 5, 2007 03:42 PM (GMT)

DisgruntledPostalEmployee - May 5, 2007 07:05 PM (GMT)
Not that shark cartoon where the sharks were half-man and rollerbladed, surely?

Tenjen Kouken - May 5, 2007 07:27 PM (GMT)
is it street sharks?

never saw it myself. Only saw an advertisement in the occasionaly ArchieDouble Digest comic.

GamemasterAnthony - May 5, 2007 10:33 PM (GMT)

Not only in Europe, in South America it's also pretty popular, by Tutatis!

In fact I have the whole comic collection of them. =D Plus I had some taped movies, but them we bought the DVD and threw the tapes away.

Plus, I just remembered Biker Mice from Mars, which was a really weird- yet cool - show.

Anth: I see your Pac-man and up you Mr. Potato Head. >:P

Streea Barra - May 6, 2007 05:14 AM (GMT)
Ohgod I miss Pink Panther.

Honestly, I can't remember much of my childhood, very few things stick out. Anything I liked though and can remember have been mentioned.

<< >>

Digimon and Pokemon when they were, you know, good?

...And I liked Beyblade too 8D

Hazzardous - May 6, 2007 08:03 AM (GMT)
You know what? Rather than just thinking about it, and hoping we will remember, it's much better to actually see the intro's:

80's Cartoon Intro Overload!

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6

Again, this is just a microscom of the cartoons of the 80's. Some of these intro's were alter cause they were from Britain and some intro's like the Thundercats, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, and espeically GI JOE intro's were alter to an extent...I'll leave you guys to see for yourselves...however, there are shows in these things I've never even heard of before 0_0
I'll put in the 90's Cartoon Intro Overload after everyone has had their fill of this one...again, even with each one being 9 minutes long, it's still a small sample of cartoons from the 80's...
