Here's what I got going so far for my new sprites. I must admit, this new little thread inspired me to finally change my sprites. As you can see, I've leaned away from the MechWarrior and picked a simple swordsman. C+C please.
EDIT: Just so you guys know, this revamp will be solely a swordsman, a skinny/athletic one at that, so any tips or suggestions would be very useful. Even if it means scraping the design. Design suggestions are also welcomed here.
Sprites used.
For the torso, head, arms and sword, I went with good old Kenshin.
For the hat, I slightly edited Ace's.
And for the legs and boots, I went with Zoro.

One thing I see wrong is the fact that the pants and shirt are shaded in the opposite directions, you'll want to fix that.

janusx85 - December 8, 2006 12:27 PM (GMT)
Good point. Truth is with Zoro's pants the shading is screwed up, so I had to improvise. Thanks for the tip though, I'll work on it ASAP.

he definitely fits the samurai cowboy look ^^

Ah, finally I have time to work on this thing... Okay, so here's the deal: I've decided to stick with my persona here being a MechWarrior, but the only problem is I'm not sure what bases would work for it.
Here's some referance pictures:

I also think this was a better idea.

... Doesn't quite help me on the matter, but for now I will continue with this paticular sprite sheet, be it for myself or another character. Here's what I have so far... C&C on this so far please.

haha...grave digging cause I wanna see two things:

I wanna see him fight.

And I wanna see him finished. Tone down the colors. They're too bright.

Hello again everyone one... Sorry I haven't had an up-date for you guys in all this time, but with college and my discovering the joy of WoW, I haven't had much time to any spriting. Anyways, over the past two months I've been pondering about my sprite's design, and with my increasing love and fascination of Fuedal Japan and their samurai, I have decided to alter the design a little to make him more traditional looking. Cowboy hat will still remain, but I'd like everyone's input on how the clothing design can be tweaked with a little. After all, Kenshin is the main base for the sprite, and since he's samurai, I don't want my sprites to be just recolors. Any advice guys?

A new sample, obviously with some tweaking of the design. Legs and head are from Kenshin sprites, hat taken from Ace from One Piece, and the torso and sword swiped from Sasuke. Your thoughts anyone?

Betatronic - July 1, 2007 06:03 PM (GMT)
The red seems a bit too vivid. The color choice could be dulled down a bit, or you'll end up looking like naruto.

Awesome so far though.

janusx85 - July 2, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
Hmm... I see what you mean. Truth be told I'm a little unsure about what colors to use. Before altering colors the clothing is all white. One of the possible colors I was thinking of is black, though I then run into the problem of making him look like one of those Soul Reaper guys from Bleach. Any suggestions guys?

Wise_Idiot - July 2, 2007 02:36 AM (GMT)
Well, I suggest that you just either make the pants or the shirt black, not both. And darken the other color to make it not so bright.

My two cents.

janusx85 - July 3, 2007 04:18 AM (GMT)
A new up-date.

Here's a little something to show you guys how it's coming along so far. I've worked out some of the basic poses, and hope to have some attacks ready by tomorrow. Also, if you're going to comment on the color, just make suggestions, as the white is only the base colors for the segments used to make the sprites. I haven't quite settled on a color yet.

SketchedHero - July 3, 2007 04:28 AM (GMT)
I like it...

Color-wise, why don't you go for something that matches the hat? Maybe black and grey, with gold trim around the collar, belt, and bottom of sleeves/pant legs...

Just an idea, of course. Excellent work, so far.

Delta - July 3, 2007 04:41 AM (GMT)
Yeah. Much better than your first ones; at least you dun have spandex pants anymore. <:

Say... that's actually a good idea! I think I'll go with it. Thanks.

Okay, here's the first display of the final draft! The sheet is still incomplete, but at least there's usable sprites in there. C+C please.

The white Gi was better. All black is Delta's thing.

Edwardo Rocket - July 4, 2007 02:43 PM (GMT)
I dunno, I like it. It's not all black, it's more of a slate gray, which is a nice color to begin with.

SketchedHero - July 4, 2007 03:34 PM (GMT)
I agree with Mr. Rocket... And that's about all I have to say on that matter.

Betatronic - July 4, 2007 05:49 PM (GMT)
Keep the top that color, make the lower part white.

Final Product!
Annnnnd he's finished! Janus is finally done and ready for use. I know he's lacking on attacks and whatnot, but more will be added in time, mainly as I start the new TFS comic with the new Janus and progress foward with his new powers and combat style. In addition to this, I'm posting a sample of the new alternate form I'll be using for Janus, dubbed: Omega Janus.

This one will be a bit tricky, as I'm using Gintoki for the torso and sword, and certain parts of his sprites only have two shades. And this will suck in paticular because I'm not that good at shading. Still... C&C please.

GrooveMan.exe - July 8, 2007 11:06 AM (GMT)
Not bad, but the yellow side needs another shade between the existing two.
