Title: All your base...~!
Description: For those aspiring to become a sprite.

Know what I'm tired of...?

HIPTRUST OF DOOM!

But in all seriousness, folks, it's time for some change. You know how I am. Anal about spriting, and I have a tendency to get really bored of seeing the same thing again and again.
Everyone loves pretty thin killers with long hair, a thong, the boots of death, and laser sabers, but did anyone ever think there might be more out there?

So here's the deal: I spent a little time going around and collecting what I thought was
1) The most used bases around
and...
2) What I thought could MAKE great bases!

See, Megaman and Sonic is so widespread, nobody bothers to explore a bit. They all try to fit in... OR PERHAPS it's the fact that those two things are so readily available to everyone, and finding the diamonds hidden in the soot is just too much of a hassle.

So I did it for you
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE PLAN
Part one of this is that I present to you a organized collection of alternative bases and information for you to use as opposed to a MMZ edit. All that is below.
Part two is I choose some reputable people who wanna be a part of my 'movement,' which is to limit the number of MMZ bases and increase customized characters amoungst people, and what we'll do is this:
You offer up your sheet you want 'improved' and some general info about it.
Then either I or someone chosen will offer other sheets that can be used in conjuction with each other to make a better character and offer suggestions for doing so.
In return, I want anyone who wants to see a change to put this code in their sig:
CODE
Also, you whores, I don't care what purists tell you... MSPAINT SUCKS FOR MAKING SPRITES.
I personally would put front Photoshop for the job, but that isn't free or simple, so being the great guy I am, here's a link to a SPRITE MAKING PROGRAM!
ALL YOUR BASES! CLICK HERE!
Yeah...there are PLENTY of sheets here.
Of course I included everything Sonic through Tails, and some MMZ sheets, but everyone knows where to find all of his collection.
I *do not* take credit for ripping any of these. I just took them from sites around and put them all in one place, obviously.
Now what's so great about all these?
Perhaps, the numbero UNO problem for you guys is finding girls. Well guess what? I put quite a few girls into here.
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/greatbases/Hinata.gif
And there's more for you to discover.
Now that that's out of the way, this is a candy shop for you folks. I included some really nice sheets which still fit what you tend to use.
The Mighty Haru and his rave.
Everyone loves an evil white doppleganger.
Who DOESN'T like Ichigo? And he has a big sword. Everyone likes those!
Wanna know where Alpha got his cool 'Flying fists of fury' pose?
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/greatbases/Sasuke.gif
Animalistic poses, and a sheet of fighting moves. VERY nic-ah.
So that's just the norm for all you goobers. However, in this Candy Shop, there's many Flavors to choose from...
"Do you have...volcano insurance?"
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/gre.../Tambourine.gif
Gasp! He has MUSCLES! I think we forgot about those...
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/greatbases/Kuro.gif
Kruger Claws are always cool...
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/gre...rison_sheet.gif
Monsters! Anyone have demon forms?
And there's STILL more.
For those of you who tend not to think outside of the box... Here's a clue...
When you start with base, you're NOT limited to just using what that sheet gives you!
When you make a character, mix and match parts.
Chop of Haru's Legs, and stick it on something else.
Shave some hairstyles from one sheet and put it on another head.
Mix limbs and weapons!
Those marine soldiers, and that one guy have cool hats.
And finally, a real treat for those of you who like to get creative.
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/gre...eatmonsters.png
Here's a big assortment of monsters. What's so special though? This is a huge collection of monster PARTS you can put on your characters.
Are those Angel wings I see?
All in all, I tried to go for what you'd use. Simple, broad colors and pixel work that could easily be changed... Legs that were varied and clean so they could be edited, and plenty of thin young men, pretty girls, and a variety of powers/ hairstyles/ and moves that you could make just about anything from.
Go look around and start creating today.
I'll update the section as I find new sprites. So keep a lookout for new things when I announce it.
TeaOfJay - December 4, 2006 04:56 AM (GMT)
Ironically, I'm actually using some of those bases for my main sheet.
Plus some Tales of the World bases.
Change is good, I mean look at the Nintendo Wii.
Ironically, in the page of bases you even put in some Megaman Zero sprites, as well as sprites from other Megaman games.
BUT I did happen to find some more bases that I might use. Thanks for making my already big project even bigger.
Betatronic - December 4, 2006 04:58 AM (GMT)
I threw them in because they ARE commonly used.
There's even MM7 and Sonic sprites.
Just not nearly as many.
My "upgrade"'s been around for quite a while now, I'm just not in a rush to change to it.
Edge - December 4, 2006 05:22 AM (GMT)
I only used a Zero base because I figured it would fit better and be easier to use. But it's not as easy to edit Zero as I though, so I figure I should get a new base.
*Looks through the bases to see if he can find a good one.*
Edit: What game is Let/Shuda/Sieghart/Gale/Alotofothers from? I'm curious.
Coraxus - December 4, 2006 05:32 AM (GMT)
Hmm, maybe this ought to be stickied, at least it some way of putting this thread out in much attention as possible, kupo, at least newcomer ones so they don't end up as lemmings following the old bandwagon trend so blindly into a deadly cliff hehe.
Gamemastermz - December 4, 2006 05:50 AM (GMT)
I have to say, this reminds me of when the whole bunch can be easily found on a few resource sites. God, I miss those days where the sprites was more easier to find. Good job!
Me, I pick the MMZ not to fit in, but because it suits my character greatly (I did many style with him, but MMZ is my favorite). However, recently I have been pushing my characters closer to being custom. Just wish it was more easy to made a sheet than to edited or custimized the sprite, though (at least for me).
Betatronic - December 4, 2006 05:59 AM (GMT)
It looks like you hardly changed that sprite at all, Hiro. You could get the same effect as your MMZ character by swaping parts, such as the head, so it doesn't look so bizzare.
Combine the 'Let' Sheet with say 'Gon' and maybe work on the limbs and clothes a bit, and you'll have your 'upgrade' without sacrificing your character's 'style.' The one head you have in the new sprite is kinda weird looking. I imagine your character to be younger. Also, the body is too tall and bulky. So change the body and limbs, like I said.
I agree, Coraxus. I was gonna ask Creepy too.
Gamemaster: Can I see your sprites?
Ekoi - December 4, 2006 06:14 AM (GMT)
- There ya go. It still a WIP, but you can tell it getting more away from the typical MMZ format. I'm currently trying to upgrade the pant and trying to created an easy way to made a sheet for him.
Oh, and before anyone said anything about any human features, he isn't human. Just to let you know.
GrooveMan.exe - December 4, 2006 06:41 PM (GMT)
Wow. I'm gonna use some of those bases fo' sho'. It's surprisingly hard to find interesting humanoid bases. God bless Jump Superstars.
BTW, you might wanna inform people about the poofy-leg-and-quaterback-shoulders syndrome that Vent Edits have. IMO, it's actually MORE annoying than the Air Hump.
user posted image
With my Vent Edit, I made him taller (He's short 'cuz he's like, 10. >__>), and more or less completely redrew the trousers and shoulders. Also, a neck was in order. They're small changes, but they work.
Side Note: Aile is more or less totally free of the proportioning problems that Zero and Vent have, but if you want your female char to be past puberty, draw a chest. She hasn't got one. >__>
Darkmonde_WJ - December 4, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
Hmm, glad I never started in the realm of endless Sonic and Zero edits. XD
But, it's still nice that you did this, as I might make a (relatively) human form for myself.
Assuming I stop being lazy... >.>
Curse Freelancer and its excellent gameplay...
Fireyone - December 4, 2006 09:07 PM (GMT)
Ehh it funny to see that really old sprite of mine up in the banner but, in anycase. I Chose MMZ because I wanted to get away from the Recolor of doom. Not to say that MMZ wasn't chosen to help me fit I chose it cause I really enjoyed the MMZ games yeah lame exscuse but, hey that the truth :/ Also this is a actually quite a useful resource and I must say I thank you for it.
((Not to mention I could have easily editted out the hump by now i'm just to lazy :D))
Jacob Gunner - December 4, 2006 09:09 PM (GMT)
Hmm... I wonder if my sprites fit into this. I used Zero as the base, but I at least edited away the thrust :P Of course, one day I need to shorten him because my character is really young and that height doesn't fit. And yeah, most people use MMZ because I imagine that it keeps a consistant size that's ideal for sprite comics, especially when comparing to Sonic-base sprites. I remember before MMZ and people did sprite comics, the humans edited from MMX sprites just towered over the Sonic Advance sprites.
I have custom sprites as well, but I simply don't have the time to make a full sheet completely custom.
Betatronic - December 4, 2006 11:50 PM (GMT)
Another fine example of TFS missing the point.
I wasn't asking for yer' goddamned excuses to justify using Zero. I know he's a good base because he has a variety of poses, is easy to edit, and as far as physical standards for characters, he's mostly in prime form.
However, things are slipping. I don't care why you used him.
This is what I hope to be the start of a movement where we can spread out the variety of sprites on TFS, where they don't all just look like obvious Zero clones.
The idea is you put aside your apprehension to trying something different...and I know it's there... and making this place into something other than a breeding hellhole carbon copies.
I'll cite some examples. If you ever saw Mokkiku's sheet, it was a samurai set that bore sonic's head on it. It's still one of my favorite sheets just from the style and poses he used, and still got to have sonic's face.
Edge turned out that one sprite he's editing slowly. In my opinion and a fellow spriter's, it looks much better.
You can create cool characters that fir your needs if you just try to be creative. None of this 'Well it worked for my character, so I'm gonna use MMZ' shit. I've heard it before and I don't need to hear it again.
If you want to see a change in things, add this code to your sig.
I'm gonna get some people who I find reputable, and I'll have it so that you offer up the sprites you want to upgrade, and a general description of the character, and me and those spriters will provide ideas and alternatives for it from the AYB sections.
Edge - December 4, 2006 11:57 PM (GMT)
REEEEVOOOLLLUTTIOOONNNN! *Flails arms around*
I added it to my sig. Now lets hope this goes well and we see less and less Zero edits.
TeaOfJay - December 5, 2006 12:10 AM (GMT)
Added it to my sig fro great justice.
Because aparantly I was apart of the revolution before it even started.
Betatronic - December 5, 2006 12:23 AM (GMT)
Cool.
I'll begin...
JACOB GUNNER
So from the looks of it, you got a nice 'Shadow eyes' look going for the character.' he's young and lanky and seems to specialize in sword techniques.
First I'll suggest this:
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/greatbases/Allen.gif
Allen has a pretty good head, which I think could fit the features of his face. Just edit the color and shadows back into there. cut the head off and save a few of them for later.
Know what'd look kinda cool?
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/greatbases/Brago.png
And edit of this guy's legs. He has sneakers, and ratty pants that look used, plus all the same kind of poses your sheet has. it's gonna be hard to get the proportions right, so maybe cut some leg poses off and shorten them.
If that doesn't work
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/gre.../gale_sheet.gif
His legs work too.
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/gre...ses/Kenshin.png
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/gre.../haru_sheet.gif
These too good for poses, but Haru has great sword arms. Kenshin has a sword closer to yours.
If All that is too much
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/gre...shuda_sheet.gif
Shuda provides good arms and a torso.
Thar ya go.
Just cause you're my special 'First Case,'
I provided an example for you.
Haru, Shuda, and Allen went into this.
Mr. G - December 5, 2006 12:43 AM (GMT)
Well, since my sprites are in da Banner, I'll give this a try.
EDIT: I also wanna find a better sword.
Points taken.
However, it is supposed to represent an older version than my current one. As in like 18-20 years instead of my current 16-ish one. So, the youth in my character's supposed to not be as apparent.
You're just not used to the head being larger, prolly.
edit:
[17:51] Sparks: His waist in proportion to his legs and arms and hips is kind short.
[17:51] Sparks: Unless he's just wearin his pants really high...
[17:51] BaxterandTarget: hmm
[17:51] BaxterandTarget: okay
Exend the legs or waist then.
A good sprite for you to work with, Galye, is:
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/greatbases/Kazuki.gif
Kazuki. His torso is almost perfect and his jacket can be easily manipulated into the proper shape. His face is also a good one to use over all.
The hair is tricky business (I hate spikey hair.) and if you're feeling lazy Haru:
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/gre.../haru_sheet.gif
Has hair thats pretty similar to what you have on the MMZ sheet, so it can be easily enough edited into shape and re-shaded to look nicer. Personally I used Sanji which is harder to work with but gives you a larger base foundation to work with.
For arms you have many options:
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/gre...es/GokuFull.png
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/gre...tenksNormal.png
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/greatbases/Yusuke.gif
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/gre.../haru_sheet.gif
You arn't necesarily limtied to these but they're the best suited from what I tried. I used Gotenks in the example, with Goku's hands. Yusuke is a gray area, his arms seem to vary a lot in length for some perculiar reason and seem to 'stretch', you could use him but I recommend Gotenks and Goku. Haru has ltos of good sword arm poses, I suggest him for these but try to make his arms match should you use any other sprite arms at any point.
For hands I used Goku and Goku alone, other options are:
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/greatbases/Yugi.gif
and
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/greatbases/Gohan.gif
I didn't see many friendly options besides these.
Legs & Feet:
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/gre...es/GokuFull.png
One again Goku came out on top, I had to shrink his legs by one pixel (maybe more depending on angle.) for them to seem proportionate enough, besides this tehre was only some minor shade edits and re-coloring.
You could also use:
http://www.readyfyght.com/media/sprite/gre.../haru_sheet.gif
but I don't recommend him.
Over all in the example below I only did minor edits to the parts used and a major edit to Sanji's hair.
I'm george zimmer, and this project is win.
I guarantee it.
But... The banner is in my signature. I'll get right on making a far more awesome spritesheet (EVEN THOUGH MY MMZ ONE ONLY HAD 5 POSES ANYWAY!!!)
Betatronic - December 5, 2006 03:34 AM (GMT)
I wanna get a section in the Express yourself for AYB.
It would be more like Artists Corner, but a request page.
You don't REQUEST sprites... you make a topic with your sprite name, describe the sprite, and everyone helps everyone else make sprites for each other.
It would be the ultimate interdependent Pixel section to root out the evils of the MMZ base and go into a TFS future of originality.
For the most part.
So it's not like Bit by Bit. Each topic can be constantly updated and worked on. You can also have people improve your sprites, or upgrade from old ones.
:3 You'll get it.
Send PMs to creepy if you want a AYB Section!
And remember to put the banner in your sig
Jacob Gunner - December 5, 2006 04:33 AM (GMT)
May I highly recommend making an actual page for these sheets. Just sample one sprite from each sheet or something. Looking at a bunch of links makes it harder to decide what sprites would work with what.
I had more to say but I can't seem to type anything else without coming off as an ass because I feel like I'm being treated like a 12-year-old.
EDIT: Make no mistake, I don't think I rule or anything like that, if I thought I was a good artist then people might actually go to my art site.
EDIT 2: Just to show I'm not a prick or something and I really do support this idea:
