Title: British Sit Coms
Description: You heard. Read, even.
Legion - March 28, 2004 06:04 PM (GMT)
Basically, this is a topic to discuss all British situation comedy. For example: Blackadder, Dad's Army, One Foot in the Grave, Porridge, Yes Minister, Fawlty Towers, Father Ted .etc. Also, to discuss the results of the Britain's Best Sitcom awards show on Saturday.
((I'm still trying to figure out how Vicar of Dibly got into the top 3.))
Meh. Can't think of anything else to say.
Begin.
White_Lightning - March 28, 2004 06:08 PM (GMT)
What about Keeping Up Appearances? Faulty Towers? The Thin Blue Line? Mr. Bean? Those are all great Brit-coms. ;P
Grand Master Eastwood - March 28, 2004 06:08 PM (GMT)
That poll was rigged. How the hell did The Vicar of Dibley and The Good Life do so well, when Red Dwarf, Father Ted and Black Books fared so badly?
Fiiix.
- Harold Q. Eastwood, Jack Dee is t3h w1n.
Legion - March 28, 2004 06:11 PM (GMT)
^Finally, someone agrees.
I'm annoyed that Vicar of Dibly outlasted all those other great sit-coms, like Fawlty Towers. Plus, it knocked Father Ted out of the Top 10.
Bah humbug.
Death Bringer - March 28, 2004 07:25 PM (GMT)
To be honest, I've seen some of BBC when my Mom watches it. I don't get the jokes on some of the sit coms, but I don't remember the names of the sit coms so I can't say what they are... @.@
Lothar Hex - March 28, 2004 08:08 PM (GMT)
Thats what you get for being an ignorrant American :D
RED DWARF SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE TOP 3 AT LEAST DAMNIT. How can you not think Red Dwarf was funny enough to be #3 at least. Stupid Public!
Fawlty Towers was friggin robbed as well. I expected Only Fools and Horses to win (even though it was represented by David "Woody" Dickinson).
KoumoriAkuma - March 28, 2004 08:10 PM (GMT)
Are you being served? is good too. I love that show. And Waiting for God. And yeah, Red Dwarf ROCKS. Your socks. Off.
Personal favorites are My Hero and Open All Hours.
My local britcom-showing station doesn't show enough for me to make a fair choice over what the best of them is.
Cyclone The Hedgechidna - March 28, 2004 08:15 PM (GMT)
Sadly the only British sitcoms I've ever seen are a few episodes of The Thin Blue Line and most of Mr. Bean(I gotta check my dish and see if I get BBC too, lol.) Personally I think Rowan Atkinson(sp?)did best with his stage films(I forgot what they're called) and Jhonny English. People seem to act better when they can talk.
Oh, and a cookie to whoever can guess which American film Rowan Atkinson was in.(Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie dosent count since it's technically part of the "plot")
Grand Master Eastwood - March 28, 2004 08:18 PM (GMT)
Hot Shots Part Deux.
Atkinsons best work was Blackadder, for preference Blackadder II.
- Harold Q. Eastwood, slaaackblaaader...

I was thinking most recently(Rat Race) but yeah he was in that too.
Blackadder, I havent heard of that, I've seen mostly Mr.Bean related stuff. I need to see that.
Legion - March 28, 2004 08:25 PM (GMT)
^You haven't seen Blackadder.
I don't like you anymore. :P

Blackadder: Tell me old crone, is this Putney? Crone: That it be, that it be. Blackadder: 'Yes, it is', not 'That it be'. You don't have to talk in that stupid voice to me. I'm not a tourist. |
Cyclone The Hedgechidna - March 28, 2004 08:29 PM (GMT)
I know it's sad. My local Blockbuster has a stash of most of the Mr.Bean episodes. A tape or two of The Thin Blue Line, nearly all of the Monty Python stuff ever filmed. And yet it dosent have Blackadder(either that or they cleverly put it aside from all the other British stuff)
Legion - March 28, 2004 08:31 PM (GMT)
Meh.
Here's the BBC's Blackadder site if you want to have a look.

If you didn't crack down so much on RPing out of line, I'd smack ya right now. I'm not ignorant. It's not just that, I find it boring, too. o.o;;; Hey, that reminds me of a question... do people in Britain really eat hamburgers with forks and knives, or is that just some silly outta-whack rumor that goes around here in Cali?

...?
:smek:
I'd have to go with the latter myself.
Cyclone The Hedgechidna - March 28, 2004 08:55 PM (GMT)
Yeah I'm not British but I'd think they'd know a hamburger is just a sandwich w/ ground beef instead of turkey/ham. And sesame seed buns instead of bread.
......I'm hungry.

You do realise that the first statement is proven false by the second, right?
Some people...
- Harold Q. Eastwood, thaaats Death...
Lothar Hex - March 28, 2004 09:04 PM (GMT)
And he says Americans are NOT ignnorant.
And Death DONT THREATEN THE MODS.
The Wise Mankey - March 28, 2004 09:08 PM (GMT)
I've mostly watched Mr. Bean and Monty Python with my family. And the occasional Are You Being Served.
Ad-Man - March 28, 2004 09:31 PM (GMT)
I haven't heard much of British TV, but I heard Red Dwarf rules!!! Isn't the phrase "smeg head" from there?
GamemasterAnthony - March 28, 2004 10:21 PM (GMT)
Yes it is, Ad-Man...but this still has to be my favorite line from that series...

Xathyis - April 14, 2004 10:50 PM (GMT)
I don't know if it still is shown, but has anyone heard of the Young Ones?
Grand Master Eastwood - April 14, 2004 10:53 PM (GMT)
One, don't ressurect the dead topics. Please.
Two, no. To my knowledge the Young Ones hasn't been shown on the BBC in any great amount for over four years. May show up on UK Gold occasionally.
- Harold Q. Eastwood, Vader is a novelty condom.
