Title: school dress code
Description: whats the dress code for your school????

erti - July 23, 2005 04:26 AM (GMT)
The following styles or manners of dress are prohibited

(a)For boy, muscle shirts and/or shirts that expose midriffs are prohibited. Boys must sleeved shirts and may not wear skirts or dresses.

(b)For Girls, spaghetti-strapped tank tops, tub tops or other shirts that expose bare midriffs or undergarments are prohibited. Straps on on tank tops must be at least two-fingers wide

I wonder why they would have that in the dress code at my school. It makes me think. They must have had guys come to school with dresses and skirts.

*more weird dresscode rules coming up*

Lets see..
Girls: Can't wear miniskirts, flipflops, tube shirts, anything that exposes too much skin.
Boys: No muslce shirt..we actually ARE allowed to wear skirts..a teacher wore one once, too <.<
Both Genders: No sweatbands..yep, you heard me, they think you'll hide a knife under 'em..pssht.., no chains (I break that rule all the time), no spikes (broke it) nothing "violent" or "offensive" (a kid got detention for wearing a family guy shirt that had something about fat people on it)
and they want us to get school uniforms..which would be the worst colors...Purple and Gold...ugh...@.@, oh, and they allow you to basically express every type of religion except for Satanism and Bhuddism..the teachers try and prove your religion is wrong..and this is a public school O__o

I used to go to a Catholic school system. <3

No, we didn't wear suits. It was khakis and polo shirts of an approved color (green, blue, red, white and black) and they had to have the school's emblem on them.

So quit whining about not being able to crossdress. Ask IX for a pic of him in his uniform. It looks like he's working for THE MAN. There are far worse dress codes out there. =P

Yet another retarded Amerikan dresscode, preventing the teens from expressing any sort of iduviduality (Obvious SP mistake. I don't care) through their clothes. What is the big, @#$%ing deal with wearing the clothes you like? Luckily, I'm homeschooled.

Oh I know, I'd just love to express my individuality by going buck naked. I mean, why should I be contained from who I really am? There's nothing to be ashamed of with who you are.

Ok, that said, there are often reasons for dress codes, one of which I said above. Truly, I wouldn't want to see people going around the halls in their birthday suit.

Much of the reason for dress codes is for 'modesty' but also, so there's not a distraction from the learning environment. If you a man in a dress, lipstick, and so forth, would that distract you from learning? School is a place to learn, not look at cross-dressers.

(By the way, I do prefer my clothing to going naked.)

This. This is one of my @#$%ing problems with Amerika. You can't wear the clothes you want, because it expresses individuality. And then there's the fact that you can get @#$%ing suspended for bringing a knife to school. Now this is ON topic.

Amerika: land of the free, free my ass.

I'm not going to continue this, this is already turning into a flame war.

For the first (and probably last) time, I completely agree with Bill on this one.
Al, just cause you're not American doesn't mean you can go off badmouthing America, k? And Al, the reason we can get suspended for bringing knives to school is because people are dumb, they would stab each other. Now go play your anarchist games int he middle of a highway.
On a side note: I Live in America, but it aint' exactley my favorite place. It's not HORRIBLE though *shrug* meh

THANKYOU alastor please get off the subject and get back on topic before this thread CLOSES!

Citizen Bill - July 23, 2005 07:00 AM (GMT)
No, no is it not over. You're not going to cop out because "this is becoming a flame war". I expect you to defend your stance.

You can't bring a knife to school? Why not next a gun? Can you in Germany? Guess what? You can't bring a knife to school because odds are you'd do something dumb with it, and there's little point in denying it. We do this crazy thing called learning from our mistakes.

On to the clothes, more or less what Vadon says. Clothes can be very distracting. And it's not like they're banned from wearing them outside of school.

America has excellent civil liberties whether you want to say it does or not.

Edit: Oh, and stop spelling it with a K. It makes you look stupid.

Alastor Blackrose - July 23, 2005 07:10 AM (GMT)
America says it's the land of the free, but they have twisted that phraze, in my opinion. And if the American teens we're actually SMART enough to realise that you don't have to hurt, or kill someone because they insulted you, maybe there wouldn't be so many laws and scares, in America. And yes I know that you shouldn't bring weapons to school.

And about the clothes, it bothers me because you can't stand out from the drones at your school, but in my mind it's all a matter of being individual.

Jus' my thoughts on the matter.

Holy the Omega Hedgehog - July 23, 2005 07:12 AM (GMT)
LOL I don't really care for a Dress Code.....I wished they Would Burn in hell..Stupid Dress Codes.....

I hate America Even though I am American...isn't that werid..

Jet - July 23, 2005 04:43 PM (GMT)
I go to three colleges this August, and there's no dress code at any of them, which means I can walk right into class wearing an offensive shirt, a sticker that reads "Fuh Q." on my backpack, wearing full bondage pants with both sets of chains, and no one will give two shi-tzus about it, as long as my homework comes in and I'm friendly towards the staff.

...However, I kinda like the slacks and ties they make some English schools use. Gotta love the tie. :D

And this is just for this ONE school? What, do you think every damn school in the USA has these dress code's applied to them? WROOOONG~ :D

Akuryou Densetsu - July 23, 2005 05:51 PM (GMT)
Aaahhh......the sweet glory of the Dutch 'we don't give a crap what you wear to school' dress-code.

in other words...you can wear anything you want too... well...as long as it doesn't show your private parts. DUH

and it's not all schools in america that have these strict dress-code rules. I've got enough people from america in my MSN/AIM list, and none of them have any dress-codes at school. And thats about 17 people...and..12 different schools. I guess some schools just feel safer knowing people won't start picking on eachother for the clothes they wear or can't afford to wear, hence the school-uniforms.

Blackmist - July 23, 2005 06:01 PM (GMT)
We can wear anything as long as it doesn't... "Reveal" too much. No muscle shirts, for hygien purposes. Last thing I want to see is a dude and his under-arm bush... And the skirt thing. Well, anyone can wear them (and I do mean anyone), they just can't show any private parts.

ThePain0nTrial - July 23, 2005 06:03 PM (GMT)
And Bill, not to change sides, but the K in Amerika is the German way of spelling it.
And Itachi your post confused me @.@ *just woke up*
And Bill, I have gained new respect for you.

*sticks head in* while this is a heated debate I wouldn't call it a flame war yet, both sides are making valid points and not just screaming "J00 SUXZ0R$"... as such I'm giving this topic to the rather underused war room.

Thanks Mewchu11 you move the tread right when I WAS going to post what I have to say. I have to type it all again

:ph43r: Skirts and shorts may be no higher than the length of the students’ arms when standing straight with their arms down to their sides. If the attire is higher than their fingertips, the clothing shall be deemed inappropriate. The above-mentioned list is to be used as a reference guide and is not necessarily allinclusive. The administration will exercise its judgment on appropriate dress at all times. Students who fail to conform to the dress standards will not be permitted to attend class until their dress is deemed appropriate. Students who are representing the school at an official function or public event may be required to follow specific dress requirements. Usually, this applies to athletic teams, cheerleaders, bands and other such groups. Students may bring book bags to school; however, all book bags must remain in school lockers during the academic day. :ph43r:

I been thinking, You think one day a crosdresser would sue the school for being sexist or whatever. If girls can wear skirts/dresses why not guys? If it distracts the learning prosses or whatever there are other ways to crossdress without wearing dresses/skirts. Girls crossdress all the time they wear what boys normally wear. My school is a public school and its only four years old so it could happen.

Grand Master Eastwood - July 23, 2005 08:24 PM (GMT)
I had a uniform. Green Tie, black blazer, white long-sleeve shirt, black trousers, black shoes, black socks. If you weren't in correct uniform you got sent home. This is the case of practically every state school in the entire United Kingdom. Lashing out against our individuality? No. There's a time and a place for being an individual, and a time and a place to get on and learn.

alastor, as for bringing a knife to school, I'm not bloody suprised you could get suspended. Here, it's a CRIMINAL OFFENCE to carry a knife (Outside of some given scenarios), so taking a DEVICE DESIGNED TO CUT FLESH to a place like a school is only going to lead to problems.

Oh, and stop flame-baiting the Yanks. Because that can be seen as racism. And racism can get you banned. If you have a problem with the States, that's cool, but no-one on here wants or needs to know.

Oh, and spelling America with a "k" doesn't make you look cool, or come across as a rebel. It makes you look like a left-wing prat with as much grasp of real world as a crab has of professional mountaneering, making those of us on the left with a bit of bloody sense look bad.

Lothar Hex - July 23, 2005 08:39 PM (GMT)
Alastor, shut the HELL up, you're making yourself look like a total and utter @#$%ing idiot.

As for School uniforms, bitch bitch bitch, most schools in the UK have em, why?

1) There is a time and a place to dress like a complete tit, school isn't one of them. You're there to LEARN, that mean absorbing information, you are not there to start a fashion trend or follow one.
2) If everyone wears the same thing, nobody can be made fun of because of what they are wearing as everyone is in the same @#$%ing boat.
3) It prepares you for the real world, where most of you will get jobs where you have to wear a suit and tie at least some of the time. Get used to it, it is your future.
4) Nobody wants you to see your damn "I'm with stupid" shirt at the best of times, never mind while they are trying to sleep during German.
5) If you LOOK somewhat smartish, you might be encouraged to ACT a bit smarter.

Akuryou Densetsu - July 23, 2005 08:46 PM (GMT)
Oi... seems like things are getting a bit out of hand here...or so it seems atleast.

Problem with these kinda topics is that almost everyone has a different opnion about.

The other thinks it's unfair that he can't dress how he wants too and how it goes against the freedom of expressing yourself etc.
And on the other hand you have the things Lothar just said.

In my opinion, i'd never like to wear a uniform and i'm glad I don't have too. But I understand why some school decide to use these rules. There's been allot of problems between teens at school who'd start fighting over something as stupid as what the other person is wearing.

And with the whole America/Amerika... about every country in Europe has the official spelling as Amerika in their county, and since none of those country's has english as a first language, except Great Brittain, duh. One can only expect that not everyone knows the correct spelling in english of country names and such.

erti - July 23, 2005 09:08 PM (GMT)
OK my here I go

I use to go to a school where like almost everyone in there had little money and was poor. Getting a unifroms for there kid is to expensive for them and the school does not provide them for the kid. They tried the whole uniform thing at that school and it did not work. Not even half the kids in the school came with a uniform. Thats why I think uniforms shouldn't be aloud. Some people dont have the money.

Lothar Hex - July 23, 2005 09:19 PM (GMT)
And the people who do have the money? Their excuse is what exactly?

Grand Master Eastwood - July 23, 2005 09:21 PM (GMT)
Uh-huh. Then if they're too poor to afford the damned things, the school should provide them with them. At least, that's how the deal works down here.

By too poor, I mean the family has an income below a certain point. If you're blowing it on shit you don't need, well, tough titty.

In every public school as far as I know there is someone with little money as for privet school I do not see why not because you have to have money for to get into one of thoes. I do not see why not in privet school. I am talking about public schools more then anything else.

UnstableMongoose - July 24, 2005 12:46 AM (GMT)
I have a great idea.

Would everyone please stop badmouthing other countries for no apparent reason?

Anyway, at my school, we have to wear school uniforms that come from the school uniform store. Which is cardboard shorts of a strangely light khaki color and extremely fragile polo shirts made by someone who has no idea how to make clothes. We also have to wear Wallabies or loafers and socks. I don't get what the deal is with the freakin' shoes. The most ridiculous thing about it is that everything costs about 10 cents to make and we wind up paying $50 bucks so we don't get expelled. And I forgot about dress uniform. Long cardboard pants and an extremely itchy oxford shirt that induces hypothermia in the winter. And a tie. They say its to look nice for visitors, but for some reason we have to wear them every Monday whether we have visitors or not.

The girls uniforms are the worst. All year long, freezing cold winter included, they have to wear skirts or skorts that usually are pretty high up the leg and white sailor blouses about as thick as a napkin. We've had several freeze to death.

And for some reason, we are not allowed to wear any jackets or coats except for the overpriced ones the uniform company sells.

Oh, and some people who do have the money to go to a private school don't have money for unis cause they are spending all they possibly can and more to keep their child out of public schools so they get a decent education. But some places have better public schools than private schools, so that's not always the case.

FinalHazard - July 24, 2005 01:02 AM (GMT)
My dress code is basically:

Grey, white, or maroon LOGO-FREE shirt, no cargo/khaki pants, no shorts.

Until you reach Level 5 (Yes, my school uses a level system, it's an alternative school =P).

Then you can change your shirt to anything as long as it's a t-shirt with no profane/offending logos on it.

I plan to wear a homemade Monty Python shirt to school one day. Bright red-orange, with the words "NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION" emblazoned on the back via iron-on.

And Alastor, there's a reason knives aren't allowed: YOU COULD KILL SOMEONE WITH THEM.

Anyway, I honestly don't have a problem with most dress codes and stuff, just the extreme ones.
And I wouldn't mind a uniform..but I think at the end of the year, you should be allowed to wear what you want..no one wants to wear a uniform in the heat <.<
