Title: The Answer To the ultimate Question...
The BOFH - June 15, 2005 10:07 PM (GMT)
Since this is no doubt driving Mewchu Slowly Insane... I have decided to make a hopefully sticky lockable topic... the question...
What IS the best?
Clear Answer? NONE.
Okay, No bias here. You want Answer, some of which you may not like, but yeah.
The Sony Boys
PS1, 2, 3 and PSP. Sleek, Sexy, and definitely the lookers of the hardware bunch (apart from the Ps3... bleh :P).
Now then.
PsOne lets all the little developers start off, as I see the shelves of my gaming store filled with games on the PS I never say before, and get a brow raise, and even a look, in some Cases.
PsTwo... The Epitome of sheer numbers makes this the most successful console the world has ever known (so far, that is.) Games, Games, Games... Such choice, and imports and such... This baby kicks some Arse.
PsThree: Of course, new consoles mean waving of Cyberpenis. The Sony boys reckon they're number one, which they are, for pure power. Interesting hardware and the Blu-ray make it a contender for numero Uno. Not many developers will use blu ray, as either Sony won’t let them, or they can’t be arsed/dont need that kind of space.
PSP: Is it a handheld? Is it a PC? NO! It's hybrid! :D PDA come Games platform, the PSP is sleek, sexy, and ready to rock. Dominance of the DS in power, but challenged by the lesser expense and seemingly greater playability of the DS. Things are too early to tell here, but it looks to be a good seller.
Team Ninty
Well, since they have a back catalog... here we go...
Game boy Series: Whoa... Handheld of the gods, seen to many as the boredom buster, the Game boy. Brought us Pokémon, Tetris and Many other titles, it has a firm foothold in the handheld world, releasing us old favorites like super Mario land, and the newer titles such as Mega man Zero 4.
DS: Dual Screen, touch me down there... oh yeah... Ahem. A touch sensitive handheld, as implemented by such games as pokémon dash, and every other title on there. A unique way to move or shoot or race, whatever. Seems to be doing well, so far, but, only time will tell.
GC: The Game cube. Small Discs, big content. Whereas Sony has number and Quality, Nintendo combats with only quality on its side, dealing the occasional blow to Sony such as SSBM, Zelda and such. At times can be a great looker, but the lack of games compared to other platforms is notable.
Revolution: Renders (Not pictures. There have been no official pictures so far, only renders, AFAIK. There may be pics, just edit for tone.) Show this to be the most... diverse of the consoles. Thin, shaped like a bookend, and a drive direct from a patented PC mod (Excreta will hit the fan if they try to patent that...) that illuminates, this thing has the "bling" factor, and promises of downloadable old skool games. Bafflingly enough, there seems to be no storage like a HD to cater for this, only a certain amount of Cache. Maybe it’s a Download on demand or such. Overall? We know little to nothing apart form its pretty, have old games, and are backwards compatible.
The Microsoft Legion
Xbox: The Bringer of Halo, and The pioneer of the online gaming service. Xbox live gave us accounts, voIP, and stats, downloads, and other doodads. The Most Physically powerful and efficient of the three great consoles of the era, it gave us dampened down version of PC titles, such as Doom³ and possibly half life².
Xbox 360: Bells, Whistles, Concaves. Circles play a big part in this rather oddly shaped and named little number. We have seen the odd glimpse of a perfect dark game... an RPG of some time, and the odd, odd feature of a webcam in game. Penny Arcade believes with will end up with genitalia on the side of mechs, but... we hope for that never to happen. Pictures of the twins are NOT welcome. Again, Cyber Wang waving versus Sony "Mine is more powerful and such Blaaaaah". Backwards compatible, and wireless as standard... Drawbacks or progress? I lose WIRED controllers often enough... but Wireless... hoo boy.
Praetorians of the PC Realm
This... is hard.
PCs cannot be compared to a console; much as a Child cannot fight with a rhino. (The console being the child). They don’t stand a chance. PCs are flexibly powerful, a standard desktop you buy form dell now could trounce any console, hands down, and when you get to specialist gaming PCs like mine (not to blow my own horn >.<) There just is no damn way you can compare.. The console gets blown away...
To Sum Up:
They All have their advantages, and their downfalls. There is no best... oh, and besides what is wrote here, there is one thing no fanboy can EVER change: Personal Taste.
Now, go about your lives... Happy posting!
LordVader - June 16, 2005 03:48 PM (GMT)
this should be stickied....

this is great, i would suggest thet it be locked so i will not be spamed, but then new systems would not be added when they come out.
The BOFH - June 18, 2005 02:11 PM (GMT)
I can give the Info to Mew, and he will add ti accordingly, otherwise, this topic requires a few missing posts, and a nice, chunky padlock.
Smerph Greenfox - June 18, 2005 02:19 PM (GMT)
What the hell is this? You come in here with this "Oh, look at me, I've got the Ultimate Answer!!" And then you spurt this crap about how video games are all based on personal taste? Well, lemme tell ya, you're wrong. EVERYONE knows that the real ultimate answer is 42!
42, Godammit!!
Just kidding, this topic is great. Hopefully this will be stickied and the blatant fanboyism will come to a stop.

I believe it only really needed to be posted after some fanboyism was thrown around, got some people pissed off at having their favourite console spit at, and then generally lead everyone to believe that there was a "best" when regarding system versus system, or even console versus PC.
There never really was a contest of which was better, it was all fabricated in the minds of the zealous when they prefered one over the other, and then started the "Mine is better than yours because of (reason)!" debate.
So basically, love console/PC long time, but there's no need to stack it up against another to try and make it seem any better than the others. Jus' my opinion. =P
Woozie - June 29, 2005 10:27 PM (GMT)
That was an awesome amount of usefull information, but one should remember that a child(Console) can sometimes compete with a rhino(Computer) if the child has some kickass guns(games) like:Halo 2, The Zelda series, Metal gear series, Final fantasy series and lots of other cool stuff.
and that i guess is the real reason because people buy consoles because of the games
but seriously though... Sorry i can't do it.
but not seriously though: what really surprised me about the ps3 was not the power, nor the color but how little it looks like a lobster, that it doesent have claws and how little it can survive under water
KVLT - June 30, 2005 09:45 AM (GMT)
The PC ain't a gaming-console.
The BOFH - June 30, 2005 05:20 PM (GMT)
Yuo can buy PCs dedicated/optimized for gaming. And they have more games than any of the other platforms.

Guy At School: ew you have a DS Me: so what? Him: It sucks! Me: so what? Him: PSP is far better Me: that's YOUR opinion. My opinion is my DS is better Him: Ha if you tried the PSP, your opinion will change! Me: dude im not gonna spend like £100 or more on another bloody handheld just to see it's better Him: fine. Loser. |
It's these type of people that sicken me, yes i know i DID do a topic about what better but i kinda messed that up anyway, supposed to mean something else. Ah well hopefully he know that opinion is far greater than specifications.

RRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrr...
Greenfox beat me to the freakin' post. Anyway, my opinion is you can't compare the PSP and DS because the DS is all about inovation and fresh gameplay ideals while the PSP is about pushing current handheld technology to higher levels. But I wish Nintendo would go ahead and release the cartridge that lets you store songs and stuff on your DS.
Sorry, I gravedug cuz I wasn't looking at post dates.
Phelix - February 2, 2006 01:23 AM (GMT)

Jim Prower - February 3, 2006 02:01 PM (GMT)
I'll agree with the personal taste factor. Same thing with Chevy vs Ford vs Dodge vs Anybody Else.

Sticky topics are immortal and thus not prone to the limitations of time and decay. Usually.
Anyway, everything which needs to be said here has been stated in the first post

Yadda Yadda Yadda, gravedig of not so great justice.
Look at this from my perspective, and I know it's illegal, unless you supoosively own the game and system, but whatever:
Emulators kick old school games in the ass, literally.. You can take everything from the Nintendo, to the freaking DS know, which means, NES, SNES, Sega, Dreamcast, N64, PS1, Atari, DS, all sorts of shit you can't normally get anymore. But it has it's downfall here:
It can't play PS@, MOST X-box games, and Gamecube games.
It balences the power out that way. That way to can have all this kick ass old school systems on you PC/laptop, and still get the new ones.
Gravedig of not so great justice terminated.
