Title: Bragging Rules
Description: 'Cause apparently they're needed.
Creepy - February 15, 2004 07:44 PM (GMT)
Okay. Because of a few problems, I'm gonna lay down a few ground rules here. Nothing huge or earth-shattering, but since some people are stupid, they're needed.
1) Didn't make it, don't post it.
This is the first, and MOST IMPORTANT rule. If you did not make the work yourself, don't bother. Anyone caught stealing art is will be banned without mercy, permanently. Then you will be flamed in the Hall of Shame. We've already had 2 theives thrown out. Do not tempt fate.
2) Pixels an' Bits go to Bit-By-Bit.
Made some kick-ass pixel-art? Made the coolest damn sprite-sheet you've ever done? Started a sprite comic and you wanna show it off? Put it in Bit-By-Bit. That's what it's there for!
3) You flame, you burn. You bash, we crush you.
Constructive criticism is fine, and most people can deal with it. But don't be an asshole when pointing out flaws. There have been many times I've wanted to ride someone's case for showing a recolored sheet off. If I can keep my mouth shut, so can you.
On the other hand, if someone shows you something you could improve or doesn't view your stuff favorably, don't go nuts. I'm not gonna warn someone for legitimately critiquing a work.
4)No response doesn't mean we hate you.
If your work doesn't get an immediate reply, don't freak out. Nobody's on the computer all the time. The forum is not active 24-7. Have patience. Keep in mind that if you bump it, I'll likely lock it.
This stuff should all be common sense, but apparently some folks don't have any. So keep these in mind when posting.

Okay, as this has come up several times, allow me to define the sections art types and what goes in them:
Bragging Rights
Art Type: All except Pixel Art or signatures.
Anything can goes here, except Pixel Art or things made to be parts of a sig. That mean manga/anime-ish art, fan fiction, parts of drawn comics, pencil sketches, Flash animations, CG pictures, ANYTHING can go here.
Bit-by-Bit
Art Type: Pixel Art
This is the Pixel Art section. What count's as pixel art? If you put the pixels together in an purposeful pattern, done pixel by pixel, that be pixel art. Not to be confused with computer generated "mouse art", which is drawing with a mouse on the screen instead of a pencil/pen on paper.
Pixel art includes edited sprites and *shudder* recolors as well.
Note: While anyone is welcome to post sprite comics in this section, please don't place your entire archive here. We've had problems with that in the past, and it didn't end well.
Signature Piece
Art Type: Signatures and Avatars
Anything you made to put as part of your signature, that stuff at the end of all you posts, goes here. So does any avatar you made. That's that face below yer name and above your member rank/title over on the left of you posts. I'd perfer if you post a copy of it in the body of the post, so that next time you change yer avvy or sig, the sig that's referred to by the post will still be ON the post.
I try to be good and quick about moving mis-placed posts to the appropriate section, but my job would be easier if everyone kept the above in mind. In particular, don't put mouse art in Bit-by-Bit or pixel art in Bragging Rights. Thank you!

This hasn't come up before, but I'll address it now. I don't consider stuff someone made in a flash character generator to be appropriate here. Persons using one didn't make the art, they used it and made some customizing choices.
Thank you for understanding!

New rule for everyone giving criticism of any kind. If you talk crap about anything on the work, you MUST do so in a civil manner. "Eww, invert!" is NOT acceptable. Neither is "Recolors are crap," or anything else along that line. When you criticise something, make sure to make a suggestion to improve it. "That sucks" is a shitty excuse for a critique. "That leg looks malformed. Try shortening it a bit," or "Those colors are blinding, man. Maybe some darker shades would be better," are so much more helpful. If it's a recolor "Recolors aren't exactly something to be proud of. Try an edit or something," would be far better than "Recolors are crap. That's shit." You don't have to be uber-polite and nice, but you need to be HELPFUL. Here on out, useless "That's crap/It sucks/That's horrible" posts are getting warns for flaming and spamming.
Similarly, if you like something, please say WHY. "That's awesome" is a nice ego boost, but it's about as useful as the "That sucks," post. I'm not going to hand out warnings for this. Keep in mind the spam rules about 5> word posts and such, though.
And one last note for the Promotion section. Bumping threads is spam. Doing so not 30 minutes after you post the damn thing is just stupid. Don't, please.
EDIT: That "No bashing" rule only applies for critiquing in the threads. Feel free to say how much shit recolors are in other places. I'm not gonna stop ya. :P

Giving it a score is frick'n useless, without any kind of actual critique. If you're gonna say it's good work, leave it at that. If you can't justify your score with a damn CRITIQUE, which is more than a simple "It's good" or "It's bad," then don't leave a damn score.

If you wish to submit a literary work (Poems, stories, whatnot) It must be at least a chapter in length for stories. Poems can be any REASONABLE length. A Hiaku is too damn short, unless you're submitting a baker's dozen in the same post.
Summaries, intros, and prolouges, unless they're long enough to be comparable to a full chapter, are too short and shouldn't be submitted by themselves.
Anyone submitting only 1-2 paragraphs, anything smaller than their oversized, blinking signature, or any piece a moderator decides is too small will have their topics ba-lorted. =D

I've made numerous threats constantly to people that seem to think that linking some work in their sig means they don't have to post it. Now it's an official rule. Anyone that wants to post their spritesheet, newest pic, whatever, has to do so IN THE THREAD. Anyone that just goes "Link is in my sig" will have the topic locked and will be warned for spamming and wasting my valuable time.
This does not apply in Signature Piece, so you can breathe easy in there.

Photos go in Whatever. Photos of yourself, your cat, or whatever random crap you saw on the road is NOT artwork.
Don't post a regular photo if you want to be allowed to keep posting at all.
