Ad-Man - April 28, 2005 07:34 PM (GMT)
I"ve tried cubism by pencil and MAN is that hard. So I'm really impressed!
Anime Freak - April 28, 2005 10:05 PM (GMT)
Thankies ^_^ Ad-Man, This was just something to do until we found out what the real project size was supposed to be. My teacher really prefers color instead so I will be doing the larger piece, 18" by 22", in oil pastels. We're going for color blending. I'll try to color this one too, but it will be done in Paint, I don't have any other programs.
psycho - April 29, 2005 03:00 AM (GMT)
ohhhhhh @_@ its all....picasso like.
Sparks Fox - April 29, 2005 03:03 AM (GMT)
That's a very nice cubism portait, Anime.
EDIT: Nevermind. Just checked the rules on sprites here but I think Creepy will likely wanna strangle yer eyes out.
Creepy - April 29, 2005 03:42 AM (GMT)
You have no idea.
Okay, cubism isn't my thing, so no advice there. However, sprites are undoubtably my bag, so here goes:
Let's ignore the poor resizing for a moment, as it only results in the blurriness you see. Sloppy, but not your major issue. We have a natty Shadow recolor that has a MM7-based blaster and an unshaded jacket that appears to have been thrown on as an afterthought. Worse, it has no color coordination. The head is black and yellow, the gloves are green, the jacket is red, and the shoes are everything but red. The "pants," which seem to be just Shadow's legs recolored not to match the rest of the fur, are also green. Then you have a yellow dot, which may be part of a necklace, or just a dot on the stomach. No clue there. In short, that's ugly.
First, for most sprites, two major non-flesh colors are good. Three is pushing the limit. Usually these colors are complimentary, or at least mesh well. And the color determines the 'vibe' a character gives off. Yellow and black looks semi-evil, and seems a bit sickly. Green and purple looks odd, which is one of the reasons I use it. Keep this stuff in mind.
Now, for clothes. Pants are going to be larger than the legs, particularly for Sonic-style sprites. I like baggy pants myself, but it's still going to be roomy even if they're normal sized. Shoes are DEFINATELY going to have to be edited, because if you leave them the same as Shadow, it just looks too natty. Shade the jacket, and make it match the color scheme better, and it'll be less jarring. Anything goes with black, but you still have to match it with the green and yellow. Using one of those two would probably work best. I'd not recommend having the jacket match the pants, though.
Drop the blaster. The style is so different it's jarring with the rest of the sprite. If you absolutely must have it, change the color so it doesn't match the fur. Keep your color-scheme in mind, though.
Hedgie edits should ALWAYS change the quills. You will forever be mocked as a n00b if you have the exact same quills as Sonic or Shadow. I don't care what excuse you have for it, that's just how it is. I would recommend making them shorter and making lots more of them, but that's just me. Bangs of some kind will also off-set them well, if you can do them right. And I'd change the marks on the quills, too.
More color tips: Lighter shades of green are kinda natty when used like you do. Darker shades work better in that case. Leave the neon for signs. :P
Finally, those Sonic-3 style Shadow sprites are someone's edits, not straight rips. Give the man some credit.
Anime Freak - April 29, 2005 06:39 AM (GMT)
FINALLY!!! Some useful info, thank you Creepy.
Frist off, I know nothing about spriting clothes onto a normally furry form. I tried to go for something that stuck to the base sprite and see what info I could get from here. Second, I knew the colors were going to be a problem eventually. I'm thinking of sticking with the yellow and black for the fur. The shoes, yeah you're right, need to be seriously redone. For the clothes, gloves and shoes, I'm thinking or going with red and green as they compliment each other according to color theory. Third, I'm thinking of lenghtening the quills to make them hang almost like dreads, but not quite. The Protoman blaster will stay but I'll see about making it less goofy looking.
Thanks you the comentary there Creepy, I'll see what I can do to make it dulled down some more from the neon sign. As for the original sprites, I still have the sheet that I got them from, and when I have a final sheet I will give credit to him. If you have any tips for clothing, I will be more than happy to listen to what you have to say.
P.S. I only have Paint to work with here so any ideas of what I can do are gladly accepted.
Creepy - April 29, 2005 06:51 AM (GMT)
Paint's not an excuse for sprites. Nearly everything I do in PSP9 can be done in Paint, without any kinds of problems. As for clothes, I recommend you spend time looking at sprited clothes. The problem with most folks that say "I don't know how to do (Insert issue here) on (Insert style here) sprites" is because they don't bother looking to see how other people did it in their sprites. Can't learn very well if you don't observe.
Anime Freak - April 30, 2005 05:37 AM (GMT)
Alrighty then, here is my sprites again. Any ideas what I can do different, or is this a good start!
NM I got new sprites, look down! V

It's loading just fine now. When I first posted it, it took a looooooong time load. That might have been the problem, but just in case, here it is:

Okay I can tell that NOBODY posts in my thread but me! -_-+ Anywho, I got awesome news folks. On Tuesday, at 6:30pm I am gonna have some of my artwork on display in a student show at my college! It is my final work of my cubist piece, the one that I didn't post cause it was too big! I plan on taking a pic so I can upload it for you all to see, but I don't know how long it is gonna take for me to fill my camera up. I'll put up the pic as soon as I can though!
Anime Freak - June 1, 2005 04:57 AM (GMT)
Well i got back from my college's student show about an hour ago. And the had my piece up for display! ^_^ I didn't win any of the prizes, but that is ok with me. I made sure to take plenty of pics, and will post some up when I get my film developed. Oye do I wish I had a digital camera. Well catch you all later!
BTW why doesn't anybody seem to post here but me lately? I mean, this is the sixth post in a ROW! o.o+
Anime Freak - June 10, 2005 08:18 AM (GMT)
Well my film is still being developed, I'll post those pic as soon as I get them back! Till then, here is a pic of my character in his original battle armor.

Mind you he doesn't use it very often. Yes I'm aware that this is a recolor of a Megaman pic, but I worked on it anyway.
Holy the Omega Hedgehog - June 10, 2005 08:19 AM (GMT)
LMAO That is nice Pictures Anime Freak.
Excellent Dude.
Atleast it is your Topic to do that I think...
Anime Freak - June 13, 2005 11:07 AM (GMT)
Well, to hold you all off till I get my pics back tomorrow. Here you go: This is what you get when Kirbopher swallows Prismaya!

I was trying to do this in Photoshop 7, but I suck at that particular program, so I did this in paint.
Rockman_SP - June 13, 2005 05:20 PM (GMT)
The colors.... THE COLORS!! I think the poor boy's gonna feel like crap once he spits her out...
Damn man, how do you get that kind of art...? I'm gonna have to suck the knowlege outta that head of youu-I mean, ask politly, yes... That'll do... :naughty:
Anime Freak - June 13, 2005 07:41 PM (GMT)
I'll give you a rundown of how I did it:
1) I did a web search for a rainbow type pic.
2) Sat around for hours on end trying to figure out how to use Photoshop, even with some kind help from Spring it didn't want to work for me.
3) I opened up two Paint windows with said rainbow pic.
4) Cut out one pic so that I had a space of the exact same size as the other and filled it in with black.
5) Went through a hella lot of trial and error, till I got that pic of Kirbopher15 just right.
6) Ctrl + A, Ctrl + C then go to the other Paint window and pasted it on top and made sure that all white color was transparent!
I honestly don't know why I didn't try this way first, it is a long process, but it got the job done. It took like three hours to do, but I was waiting for some laundry anyway so I was up till like 4:00 am anyway.
Remember folks, I do have an open list for people who would like to have their picture done in a cubist style! I may add in a list for pics to be done like the Kirb pic too, but only if asked.
Anime Freak - June 14, 2005 02:21 AM (GMT)
Well my felloe TFSers, as I said before I had one of my pieces of art hanging up at my colleges student show for the past 2 weeks. As promised, I have a link for a pic of my piece right here. I have some pics of things done by my classmates also, but I was thinking that I shouldn't put them up in my art thread, so I'll just leave them on my PC.
Remember that I have lists for doing cubist portraits and rainbow portraits, please sign up as I have nothing better to do till school and work pick up in like one more week!
Anime Freak - February 6, 2006 06:39 AM (GMT)
Wo~ow! I had to dig all the way down to the 6th page to find my art thread. @_@ Either way, I managed to get together a few more pics to add to the first post. One of which Is this little diddy! More to come as I get bored.
Anime Freak - February 9, 2006 02:57 PM (GMT)
