Getting A Good Start
A TFS newbie guide to good happy success
---
Behold The Ten Commandments of First Impressions
1. Thou shalt not walk in with a chip on your shoulder:
Simply put the worst way to make an entrance at TFS is to come in and say: "Hey I'm glad to be here, I love most of the comics here but god Mr. OMA sucks!" Bring an open mind and a lack of pants, it shall only help you :D
2. Thou shalt not go around like thou own (pwn) the place
Your not god. Seriously while TFS trys to prevent discrimination on such things your not going to be respected the day you walk in the door (unless your like... Psy or something). Make some posts, talk around, follow the rules!
3. Thou shalt not make tons of topics
While it's not against the rules it sometimes seems very annoying to see tons of topics pop up from one member, especially if they haven't much to say. Posting on existing topics (if its not gravedigging) is a lot easier than trying to make your own, and it doesn't make you seem like a big headed ego balloon (Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloooon?)
4. Thou shalt not come in with a sole purpose
People who come here solely to request a piece of art, suggest something, insult someone, etc. are generally disregarded pretty fast. Speaking of which...
5. Thou shalt not beg for stuff
If you want to be taken seriously at any point in your TFS life you shouldn't do this. No one likes beggars and whiners. Suck it up and move on if no one wants to make a picture of your 1337 shadow recolor.
6. Thou shalt not break the rules
Simple, VERY simple. There are rules, READ THEM.
7. Thou shalt not spread the E-Drama
People don't enjoy being bombarded with tales of how their brother is sooooooo annoying and unless we know who you are no one is likely to care :)
8. Thou shalt not demand change
Tying in with number two... Well making suggestions is always nice, but newbs who are consistently pounding an agenda tend to be looked down upon :<
9. Thou shalt not get too angry about things
Calm down. Seriously. someone say something you don't like? Don't go crazy! Getting banned isn't worth the pleasure of yelling at someone... (Save for the Lothar) angry and raging people aren't usually well liked.
10. Thou shalt not expect results overnight
Your not gonna be bigger than the no pants dance within the first week, the first month, or even the first YEAR at TFS. Just keep following the rules and doing the cool things! Making a TFS comic can help, and good artists are always big hits.

So yeah, things to about folks :D

1. Making a comic actually doesn't help as far as I can see. A substantial portion of the people here have a comic of their own out of trend for the forum, but they're no more important than myself, jus' a little more known because they have more material in sight.
2. Being an artist here can be a hazard sometimes, with people jumping on you when you post one good piece, thinking they can get a free pic from you. Not saying I haven't drawn for a couple of people, but they were friends, it was my entertainment, and I didn't do it for forum props. ¬__¬

Mewchu, you missed one! :gnar:
11. Respect and honor the people who've been before you.

11. Thou shalt not become an elistest respect hog when you get more experenced :P

Hmmm, amendment idea.
11. When in doubt, SHUT UP.
Always know what you're posting before you post it. If you have nothing of use to post, don't post. Lurk, get ideas, exercise tact and THEN post when you have something worth posting.
Just a suggested amendment, but I think it has merit.

Regardless, something to add. Throwing something about not acting scitzophrenic. Since everyone here is human, and usually only one person, saying you're a bright orange, flying echidna/bat hybrid with a flaming katana and magic powers coming out of your arse only makes you look kinda silly.
There's a difference between a person and a character. Dancing that line constantly isn't good for your health, and as said before, makes you look a bit of a pillock. :P

I declare this topic stickied and cropped of useless posts. Except this one.

#12 Thou shall not flame people. ^^

11, or 12 or whatever comes now:
Do not flame other people's interests. I know this sounds ironic coming from me, but seriously.
Unless of course their interests involve the dislike of penguins. THEN they deserve a flaming.
( :brick: several million times)
EDIT: It didn't look like the last post was a month ago.

I belive the flaming ones fall under #6....the rules, anyeway, that could be a very helpful list for young grasshoppahs.

New as I am, I'm almost shy about posting this, but...
I think a lot of the rules that you've stated could boil down to 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto yourself.' I mean, if you come on here claiming to be 'SUPERSAIYAN8888888324283!!!111one' and bragging how you can annihilate everyone, what you're doing is ignoring them to make yourself look good. So you can expect them to return the favor, and totally ignore you.
By the same token though, if you come in and you try to liven up people's days... Make them laugh, post something to talk about, et cetera... Then you're showing people that you would like to share joy with them. Something that is far more fun, if you ask me.
That's just my n00bish thoughts on the topic, anyway. I hope to spread the latter and stamp out the former some... If nothing else, I can always be counted on to laugh at lame jokes, because I enjoy laughing.

Thank you. This topic helps with my "Warming Up" problem.
You know, I thought I hit a worng string there for a second with the first posts I did here at TFS but now it appears I have no regrets.
As for comics, well the TFS comic rules sort of got me bothered... I asked OMA about using another's character, something that is prohibited without asking (or love/fanart) in Pixeltendo. He mentioned the history of the rule but I didn't get a straightforward answer. It was about me being the author and using other's characters in a comic. (Personally I ask first, use after given an OK.) Hence I don't know what to do at that point.
But yeah, Kelzen raises a good point, the thing to being new is not to demand respect on the floor, but to be aware that your not the only apple tree in the orchard. You can drop your own apples to the ground but it doesn't mean yours can always be the sweetest.
Once again, thank you for the topic. I plan to throw my two cents into a a lot of topics because I have a lot to say on several things. It is hard for a Moderator to hit the floor as a newbie in a new forum but it sweetens the internet experience.

I know I'm a newbie but I would like to add a little something if no one is object:
11. Thou shalt not 'lol' when thou is not truly laughing.
