Mewchu has been seeing this far too much lately.

| If you want to be included in my TFS comic just post here with your sprites! |
I got news for you folks:
YOU DON'T HAVE TO ASK!
One of TFS comic's main pillars of success is the wide variety of sprites, personalities, and general little tidbits of information freely available for anyone’s comic as they choose. You wanna put Prism in a situation with her fighting over a bagel with Chris? Go for it! There are no permissions to ask for, "just make the damn comic"™
If the person puts their sprites in their TFS comic thread, guess what, IT'S OPEN SEASON FOR USE*
*EXCEPT WHEN
: It's in an overly embarrassing or insulting situation (you should ask first on this one if you’re not GOOD FRIENDS with the victim)
: The person in question has asked you specifically NOT to use their sprites
: YOU PLAN ON RECOLORING THEM FOR YOUR OWN (Very banninating trust me)
Anyways don't be afraid ye young artists of TFS, no reason to be shy. Dive right in and get integrated with older artists! "It be a great thing"™
Also I would like to note that IF you go around asking for people to be in your comic you’re usually just going to get other new people who ask people to be in their comic. This behavior seems to draw a line in the sand between newer and older comictists. (comicti?) This is very no if you ask me, Mewchu doesn't like to see segregation like that. Clicks are teh s uck...
So please, feel free to use TFSer's who didn't come into your thread and say "HEY PUT ME IN YOUR COMIC". Despite how it feels it IS legal =P I'd PM anyone you use though, that's just TFS politeness.
Some other things to remember!
: Just because people give sprites for use in TFS comics doesn't mean they're Public Domain. You'll still need to ask for non-TFS comic productions (Some people are VERY touchy about this
: A few TFSers sprites aren't sitting in plain sight, this is not a mistake. People nervous about sprite theft or poor representation sometimes won't list their sprites, even though they have them. They can be asked for via PM, but there's a lot of trust involved so if you just got here then I wouldn't get your hopes up...
: Tournaments (a common thing here) kinda require sign-up posts, so that's okay to do.
: Try to keep people in character. It helps if you... you know... read some of their work or talk to them beforehand, get a good picture of who your trying to portray
: People who constantly use super famous people like Mr. OMA alone or constantly use tired jokes (OMG WHERE DA DP?!) won't get you many/any laughs, so try to mix it up a bit!
If anyone else has any questions on what is and isn't allowed in this fair use thing I'll be happy to try and stumble through giving you an answer.
It's really all common sense though...

Just to note some exceptions:
1) As Mewchu mentioned, if someone asks you not to, don't. Similarly, if someone asks you to stop using them, you are obligated to stop. Period.
2) You're using them for anything but TFS comics. If you're going to take someone's sprites from this section for some unrelated work, say, a comic you have on another site, the familiar rule of asking permission still applies.
3) Me. NOBODY USES MY SPRITES WITHOUT MY PERMISSION UNDER ANY AND ALL CIRCUMSTANCES. The ones that do are the ones that PM'ed me and got my sheet. Getting my sheets are hard enough, considering they aren't publicly posted, but some folks did it anyway. They're banned now.

4) Tourneys. Not exactly an exception, but if you hold some kind of signup, nobody'll mind much for that, for the most part.
Past that, you're golden. One of the fun parts of TFS comics is that you got all your buddies all together and easy to mock... er, make comics with.

Take advantage of that.

Yay for sticky noticeness... Also like to add that I belive for all you drawer and flashers that, where applicable, these guidelines still apply the same way.
And yeah, don't mess with creepy's sprites. :gnar: He'll do horrible things to you if you do, things too horrible to mention.
=P though I do belive Creepy is the only guy with a TFS comic who doesn't openly distrubute his sprites (people's like UC's can be a little hard to find, but they're out there... DON'T STEAL 'EM) , so you won't run into that problem so often...
-Mewchu11
[Edit: and yeah, it'd be a little bizzare if you held a tourny out of the blue without asking for any signups... although the shear fact that that's never been done makes it interesting...]

A question...would it help to have a string, probably stickied like this one, wherein people can post their sprites for public use? Basically, it can be a good single source to draw from in case a new comic spritist needs characters.

... Nearly every TFS comic thread has the person's sheets in it. Mine is probably the only one that doesn't. Why make a seperate thread for it?

Well...I can only think of two reasons.
1) For lazy people >.>
2) Because of the fact that (Unless you're smart enough to realize that you can switch this) after 30 days, a topic will "Dissapear". Most people don't know about the viewing thing at the bottom, so in turn, people will be excluded because they haven't posted in their topic for a month
At least, that's what I think.
Edit: I believe this has already been stated, but I just though I should mention, you should add something about not making people act out of character. I can't think of a good example of it, but I felt I should mention it.
Creepy - April 4, 2005 03:47 AM (GMT)
If people are too lazy to find and use the viewer settings at the bottom, I'm not sure I would WANT them using me in a comic.
Mewchu11 - April 4, 2005 04:11 AM (GMT)
For lazy people I appended the top post with some other good ideas that were mentioned here =P

Yeah, I think I was one of the lazy people >.< Sorry about that, I tend to jump the gun sometimes, sorry. And I have one question: What if the re-coloring of someone is used to point out evil twins or something, that still a no-no? Don't worry, I will ask before doing something like that anyways.
Trilo - February 23, 2006 10:28 PM (GMT)
OMFG YOU GRAVEDUG A BIG ONE JESUS CHRIST!
Creepy - February 23, 2006 10:30 PM (GMT)
Trill, it's stickied and left open for a damn reason.

I'm note TOO sure, but I think it's alright as long as you ask first before you recolor the person's sprites so you can make a little evil twin, not recoloring them so you can use them as your own sprites mind you.
Again, I'm not sure, but I guess it's how it works.

I'm curious
I like to think that im semi-decent at spriting (although I'm probably not) and I would want to make comics but despite that i can sprite, my computer only has paint and it's really hard to make a decent comic with that.
(Not to mention that I Suck at it anyway.)
So
Where would i post my sprite sheet for people to use in their comics and how would i post it in the first place? How can you take sprites directly from your computer to post them? because it won't let me do so.
YellowBlade - February 9, 2008 11:41 PM (GMT)
JUst upload your sprites onto like photobucket or picoodle. Then post the link it gives you here and we can see your sprites.
