Title: Massive Earthquake Hits Southeast Asia

10th letter q-boro - December 26, 2004 08:07 PM (GMT)
In Sumatra off the Indian Ocean, the largest earthquake since the 1960 Chile quake hit. The 8.9 seismic shake followed by the 10 meter tsunami(tidal wave) has left close to 10,000 dead now with the number to escalate as the clean up is going on. The India plate and Burma plate caused the devasting results. All of Southeast Asia has been affected.

To those who do not know much about the power of feeling the ground shaking, I can tell you from my parents who survived the 1960 Chile quake, it is not a joke. That was a 10 on the Richter scale. It is the scariest situation to ever go by. It is so unoredictable, any moment the ground can open up or if you are by the sea, a crashing wave can slam at you.

I heard about that, this morning they said the death toll was like 6,000 but they were expecting it to rise greatly, I never imagined 10,000 though. My prayers go out to those people, I know that has to be so devestating and scary. I hate when huge amounts of people die like this.

10th letter q-boro - December 27, 2004 02:34 AM (GMT)
Latest numbers surpassed 23,000.

10th letter q-boro - December 28, 2004 04:00 PM (GMT)
This morning 44,000.

Shadow - December 29, 2004 01:39 AM (GMT)
The death toll is up to 55,000 now and still rising.

Damn, this is too horrific. The power of God is too much for any man to phathom.

NsaneC - December 29, 2004 02:28 AM (GMT)
55 thousand, wow, thats incredible. My prayers are out to all those who have lost family and friends. This is crazy. I hate natural disasters when mass amounts of people die. THis is terrible.

10th letter q-boro - December 29, 2004 04:51 AM (GMT)
Not just the amount is crazy, whole tribes of people could be eradicated. There are islands that live in their own solitude there and since they live without telephone or electricity and they are given the right to stay in solitude by the neighboring governments, no one knows if those inhabitants have one survivor or not.

SonnyDano - December 29, 2004 09:21 AM (GMT)
this is unbelievable. 55,000 SO FAR.

10th letter q-boro - December 29, 2004 03:15 PM (GMT)
It is going to top 100.000 easily. This morning the reports surpassed 63,000.

Shadow - December 29, 2004 11:35 PM (GMT)
The number is still rising. It's now 79,700 people that has left this world. It's now 300 people away from the 80,000 mark.

I don't know about you guys, but this is making me pray more. It's the only way to calm my nerves and give me some assurance that everything will be ok.

10th letter q-boro - December 30, 2004 03:21 PM (GMT)
Shame that this number rises this fast. 114,000 reported.

SonnyDano - December 30, 2004 10:17 PM (GMT)
ny times reports the toll has now well surpassed 115,000. insane.

Shadow - December 31, 2004 12:45 AM (GMT)
Make that 117,000, now! Damn, this is sickening and heartbreaking.

Howie - December 31, 2004 04:33 PM (GMT)
Crazy!

Shadow - January 2, 2005 06:25 PM (GMT)
Now, the death toll has risen to 141,000. Man, this is too crazy!

GOD BLESS EVERYONE AFFECTED BY THE TRAGEDY!!!

man I was watching some of the coverage on CNN and I started crying my eyes out, this shit is hard to believe, these are the people who need help and I will give bush his props for allotting a large amount of money to help them, this is how you help people, not by bombing their neighborhoods

I also think it is great that so many people all over the world have lent a hand to the victims, I guess this is what it takes for people to think with their hearts, and it is truly heartwrenching. I am trying to think of ways to help myself because I feel that I need to, I had a strange dream where I actually flew over there with gallons and gallons of wal-mart spring water and food, and I do believe that dreams have meanings, it may not happen in that form, but I will find a way to help even though I don't have much, they have nothing, and the situation these people are in makes my problems and complaints seem so petty and meaningless. On New Years Eve when I began to pray before the year came in, most of my prayer went out to these victims and I hope that mine and many other peoples prayers will be answered and at least the living can rebuild even though the pain from this will probably live on with them forever

...eh, sorry, had a lot on my mind, this type of stuff just hurts me so bad

Illpoetic - January 6, 2005 05:38 PM (GMT)
well I said I would help, yesterday I made a donation to the Tsunami victims in Sri Lanka via the Red Cross.

I couldn't afford to put up thousands and millions like some other people but I'm sure my little bit will help.
