Title: Tor-Ivar sine kart

Tor-Ivar - June 1, 2004 10:52 AM (GMT)
Jeg har postet de to finalekartene mine på Map-Center, og jeg må selvfølgelig legge dem ut her også. Dere kan lese originaltråden her.

For lenge siden hadde jeg en undersøkelse om hvilken type kart folk liker. Det var litt interessant å lese hva folk svarte. Dere kan se undersøkelsen her.

This is a single arena area constructed on two levels. The key to owning this map is control of the upper platform, where the RG and GL are to be found. The rest of the weapons are down below, and health is at a premium, though there is an RA near the Major statue. The map is mostly textured in id vanilla textures, with a lurid alien world skybox casting a greenish light over everything. Botplay is not bad, but they tend to stay down below (Anarki is the recommended bot for this level) and make fairly easy prey. They don't understand the vertical bouncepad, but make liberal use of the teleporter and occasional use of the bouncepads to the upper area.
A solid, fast-paced map, and good for a few head-to-heads, though a 4-player FFA is fun too.

Second Opinion

Saint Tourney 1 is another great release by Kaziganthe. The map has a nice atmosphere created by the excellent rust-like textures and the skybox. Some ambient sounds would have been good as an addition to the atmosphere, but it is likely that the author has not included sounds because hearing the enemy is very important whilst playing a 1v1 match. The map has brilliant game play made by the usage of one big area separated by columns that have the highest layer of the map on them. This creates the all-important game play element of tournament matches: surprise. Item placement is fabulous, with the rail gun and grenade launcher located on the highest layer of the map for sniper and blanketing attacks, whilst there is a nice amount of health and armour to replenish the durability of a player. The map is designed for tournament matches but, small death matches (with no more than four players) can also be fun. The structure and lightning of the map is also nice, and has been implemented into the old rusting theme of the map. Bot play on the map is fine and the bots use the whole map, but the map is much more enjoyable with human opponents. I'm not a great fan of tournament games on Quake 3 Arena, but this is not a map to miss out on.

Through with you av NemiX (DM/Tourney 2-3 player, 957 d/loads) (2,29 MB)
A compact tourney map consisting of passageways winding around a central shaft. Sock's tech textures have been used well here, and together with the lighting give a warm orangey ambiance to the map. Bots play competently but seem a bit more predictable than usual, perhaps due to the small size of the arena. The map has plenty of height variation making for some interesting fighting.
Minor niggles would be some low archways that hampered my cornering in a couple of places. It might have been nice to see a more industrially themed teleporter than the standard id model.

It feels like it wouldn't hurt to have added a couple more areas, but this is still a beautiful, tidy little map. Recommended!

Note: The zip file contains directory information, so be sure to extract the pk3 without restoring folders.

sedona av redfella (DM 2-4 player, 459 d/loads) (2,29 MB)
Redfella's Sedona is a large, three tiered FFA level clothed in Rorsarch's Vendetta textures. Featuring distinctive angular wall architecture, the spaces making up the level are generally blocky and linear, often opening up lines of sight which are excessively powerful in a map which includes the RG. This weakness is offset somewhat by interesting vertical relationships between the three tiers.
Item placement is functional, but flawed. There is nowhere near enough health; the MH is badly placed and invites camping; the regen is placed in an otherwise useless room and should have been somewhere more interesting. Weapons and ammo are sparse but more suitably located.

Movement about the level is smooth, but slightly hampered by a lack of connections between tiers. Useful moves such as dropping to the RL or RA areas from above are made difficult for no apparent reason. On the plus side, useful rocket and strafe jumps abound.

Given all this gameplay can be quite good. Bots do not bring out the strategic possibilities of the map and tend to charge down straight corridors into your rockets a little too willingly. Much more interesting and strategic gameplay is possible with humans, where the strong vertical element of the map comes into effect.

Bot play is serviceable if sometimes predictable and a bit slow. Performance may be an issue for those with old machines. Item load is SG-RL-GL-RG, MH-RA, regen.

A distinctive looking map with strategic potential. Worth a look.

NB: The Sedona Method is an approach to treating clinical depression. Go figure.
