Title: The inevitable question

windseer1986 - June 9, 2009 12:31 AM (GMT)
Now that GS3 has finally finally been announced :gsjoy:
How do we go about reviving this place?
For one I suggest adding a GS3 section to the golden sun hallways, just to have a specific place to discuss it as new information is posted.
Also, possibly hiding or condensing the lower corridors, which honestly are very rarely used and make the board look that much more inactive.
Once more game art has been released I suggest that we make a new skin/banner.
If Marlin still visits here I would like to know if he plans to ever update the aerie for gs3 as well. That would be a strong pull for new members.

Sui-kun - June 9, 2009 03:44 AM (GMT)
Well...

Umm...

I think the content on the website is the main attraction. People will inevitably need a walkthrough, or info on the new game. So, obviously, we need Golden Sun 3 content for the main site.

And, of course, new skin and banner when GS3 nears release. That doesn't even need to be said.

I think the main obstacle that is keeping us from attracting members is the name of this website. Aerie of the Roc doesn't hint anything Golden Sun-related. If one searched for Golden Sun info, Aerie of the Roc would not pop up. In other words, this website is too obscure and needs to be slightly more main stream. That means a name change. While I am aware that this site has been named "Aerie of the Roc" for 6+ years, and I'm sure Marlin won't like the idea, the fact of the matter is that other sites like Golden Sun Realm and Golden Sun Odyssey are getting more activity because they have "Golden Sun" in their names.

Speaking of Lord Marlin, he's currently on vacation with little to no internet access. He's likely not aware that GSDS has been announced.

And for the lower corridors... well, we could condense them. But I don't really want to do that without Marlin's consent.

Lor - June 10, 2009 01:15 AM (GMT)
Site definately needs a new name, whether Marlin likes it or not. We could at least rename the forums, as long we all agree on a name.

Make some suggestions, and we'll vote on it.

Sui-kun - June 10, 2009 01:25 AM (GMT)
How about: "Nest Under a Golden Sun"

Or "Golden Roc"?

Or "Golden Aerie"?

Golden Lighthouse? I like that one.

Lor - June 10, 2009 04:04 AM (GMT)
I think Golden Sun Aerie is a good choice. It's a new name that retains part of the old, can be abbreviated GSA, and is more relevant to the series.

Swordmaster - June 10, 2009 06:45 AM (GMT)
I think I have a more likable suggestion. How about we make Aerie of the Roc a sub-title or 'over-head' title.

Say... like... we could call it.

Mt. Aleph: The Aerie of the Roc

or...

The Aerie of the Roc: Rise of the Golden Sun

These are just ideas, I'm sure we can come up with something better, though.

Sui-kun - June 10, 2009 05:12 PM (GMT)
Those titles are too long, Swordmaster. We need something easier to type.

Swordmaster - June 11, 2009 08:37 AM (GMT)
Like I said, we could probably come up with something better, but I'd prefer to keep our roots of the Roc's Nest.

Read.

Sui-kun - June 11, 2009 08:37 PM (GMT)
GSA sounds too much like some other Golden Sun site I know.

Golden Sun Advocate...

Golden Sun Anonymous...

Gay Straight Alliance...

Golden Sun: Aerie of the Roc doesn't work either because of it's abbreviated as "GSAR" which is already taken by Adept's Refuge.

I still like Golden Sun Aerie though.

Swordmaster - June 12, 2009 04:03 PM (GMT)
Hm... I've got a small question... what's so wrong with having the same abbreviation as a site that died?

Sui-kun - June 12, 2009 11:38 PM (GMT)
Well, maybe I'm being too particular about it, but it could be mistaken by our audience that the old site that used the abbreviation returned/revived itself.

If you go to a forum and advertise your site as GSA, someone might say, "Huh? GS Advocate? When did they return?"

Well, this can be solved by telling him that GSA is just "Golden Sun Aerie". But I feel that's kinda cheap.

Come to think of it, if we change the name then it'll be like starting a new website. :/

Swordmaster - June 13, 2009 06:09 AM (GMT)
Well, let's think about how we were attracted to this forum.

I searched on google for Golden Sun stuff (a sequel for The Lost Age).

Sui-kun - June 13, 2009 08:23 AM (GMT)
I got here via GSR.

Marlin and Max were arguing about Windwaker.

Swordmaster - June 13, 2009 03:37 PM (GMT)
Hah, you're kidding?

Those old says seem like good times, eh.

How about we go put ourselves up on google and get some affiliates?

Marlin Beta - June 13, 2009 10:41 PM (GMT)
LOL , yeah. This is the first I've heard about the announced Golden Sun for DS that is forthcoming.

As the head admin around here, I'm going to put my vote in for Golden Sun Aerie. I wanted something like this anyways, because Aerie of the Roc is going to become my site for developing my portfolio. Just to correct Sui-kun, I'm not on vacation, I'm unemployed. Big difference. :XP: Not to be harsh about it, but I don't like my current situation being called a vacation is all. o_O

In a few days I'll have high-speed internet, so I was already planning to start working on website revisions, so that's good timing. ikillkenny from Golden Sun Anonymous has given me permission to use his walkthroughs anyways, so it's not a big deal to have GSA as the site acronym. I think he would consider it an interesting gesture.

More to come later. ^_^

Sui-kun - June 14, 2009 01:28 AM (GMT)
Oh wow, really? So like, Aerie of the Roc is a joint site with the ghost site Golden Sun Anonymous?! Is this coincidence, or destiny?

Welcome back Marlin. For the latest GSDS news/screens/videos, visit the sticky topic. Sorry about the vacation thing. Forgot. :gsseatdrop:

I like Golden Sun Aerie too.

By the way, I don't think I've ever seen you use so many emoticons.

Swordmaster - June 14, 2009 08:17 AM (GMT)
I see... Well if Marlin approves, I guess it's fine.

But... it doesn't really have much relevance save for our history and the fact it pretty much means a mountain's peak (Mt. Aleph).

*pokes SuicuneSol* Not destiny...

Hah, the most emoticons I've seen Marlin use is 2 or so. I guess he broke his record?

Anyways... I'm neutral with Golden Sun Aerie... but I still think we could come up with something better.

(Welcome back Marline.)

(Yes, I said Marline. =P I actually mean to say Marlin, but it somehow ended up as Marline. ^^; )

I figured that if I'm going to be replying on dial-up I'd make the best of the message. I have plenty of time to make sure I get it right. :P

Swordmaster - June 14, 2009 08:44 PM (GMT)
*nods and pokes Marlin* You're ignoring me! XP

(Though, I do agree, dial up is quite the pain... I haven't used that in ages.)

It's not my intention to ignore you, but I can't spend a lot of time online with dial-up.

How many emoticons I use isn't that interesting to me. :(

Golden Sun Aerie is not just a call to tradition. Aerie is also what the tops of the lighthouses in Golden Sun are called. An Aerie can also be any high place with a stronghold.

Sui-kun - June 15, 2009 12:33 AM (GMT)
Hmm... this is good.

Lor already made a new banner too. Lor, show it to Marlin!

I know, I know...

But, why not keep up with the Aerie theme and just substitute the Golden Sun part with a less cliche title that is still directly related to Golden Sun?

Because if Golden Sun is in the name, we will more likely show up in the Google results.

If you insist on a name change still, I can suggest Golden Horizon, Sunny Aerie, or perhaps just Golden Aerie.

I meant something more along the lines of less... general and more specific. Like Mt. Aleph or Lighthouse.

Sui-kun - June 16, 2009 12:17 AM (GMT)
Oh, I see.

But isn't "Aerie" quite specific already? The aerie of a lighthouse? I don't particularly like "Mt. Aleph".

...someone else think of something.

Gay Straight Alliance...

Meaning that they've settled their disagreements and have decided to band together to end world hunger?

Agreeing with most of the suggested ideas, a new name would be just. How about the Golden Sun Era? The Golden Sun Archives? The Golden Sun Dimension?

While all the above are terrible name ideas, I've put my two cents in and am atleast proud to say that :P

P.S. Hey everybody, been awhile since I popped in and said my peace. I plan on dropping in a little more every now and then (I've been working an incredibly boring part time job while trying to balance out the typical BS of a "normal" teenage life ;) )

Sui-kun - June 17, 2009 04:29 PM (GMT)
Hi Wind! Welcome back!

sol_blade - June 22, 2009 11:17 PM (GMT)
Why don't you just make a poll about the question? :)

Elephande - June 24, 2009 05:57 AM (GMT)
Originally hailing from GSA, if IKK has no problem with us having a name that echoes that acronym, I'm love to have a reason to use it again.

P.S. The 27th member returns. Never forget the Mark.
