Title: Golden Sun 3 (A Prequel?)

Swordmaster - June 20, 2008 07:03 AM (GMT)
Hello everyone, I know that I don't have much right posting this...

Regardless, I'd like to announce the beginning of a new Golden Sun Project.

As it would happen, me, my twin sister, and a few other people are putting together a Golden Sun game of our own.

The plot's main point is to cover Alex's descent to madness and a small history of the Mercury Clan.

Some of the main features which will be missing/included are:

-there will be no djinni or summons due to the Djinni still being held in Mt. Aleph

-the story will circle around Mercury Adepts (other adepts will most likely be included though)

-minor mysteries in the series will be touched up on (like Anemos)

-a large assortment of weapons will still be present

-water/ice-based psynergy will be prominent and the most extensive type

-the game WILL BE VOICED (yes, this means that voice actors will be needed for various character, including Alex and Mia)

-there WILL BE CG scenes (We have a few artists already, more are always welcome though)

-there WILL BE ORIGINAL PIECES OF MUSIC, as well as some older songs. (We already have a band willing to play some original pieces, but more are welcome)

I don't know what else to cover...

Also, we have our own site and forums... so feel free to stop by.

NOTE: This is a progress in work!

*blinks* This is...wow. Talk about a resurrection!

Are you going to be able to get a copyright on this?

The Wind Seer - June 20, 2008 03:59 PM (GMT)
Could I have a link to the website? Also how do you get copyrights?

Swordmaster - June 22, 2008 02:20 AM (GMT)
No, it is unlikely that it will be copyrighted, due to the vast amount of paperwork (and going through the many lawyers). Also, the fact still stands that the Golden Sun plot, characters and places are copyrighted by Camelot and Nintendo.

So then, my question is this: are you planning on just making this for yourselves? Distributing it freely over the internet with disclaimers? When I said copyright, what I was really thinking of was if you were going to seek permission to distribute it.

Sui-kun - June 23, 2008 06:04 PM (GMT)
Isn't it okay to distribute it without selling it?

I support this, but I want to see some evidence that it's coming. Screenshots/music/hardcore evidence. Not that I don't believe you, but projects have flopped before.

flamethrowerqueen - June 23, 2008 06:09 PM (GMT)
*looks over my post* My apologies, I was a little unclear there. Yes, you can distribute it without selling it, so long as you have disclaimers saying that you don't own Golden Sun, copyright of Nintendo and Camelot, etc. etc.

I was just wondering if there were plans to turn it official.

And I agree with Suicune. Evidence of present and future progress would be fantastic. >.> A little unsure about the idea of voice-overs, though. Personally, I feel that that would be one of the biggest flops.

Sui-kun - June 23, 2008 06:17 PM (GMT)
If you do do voice-overs, make sure to do them well. Otherwise, you better include an option to play the game without them.

What kind of tools do you guys have at your disposal? You've got gamemaker, but do you have good music-making equipment, and voice-recording stuff? Anything else to improve game quality?

flamethrowerqueen - June 23, 2008 06:46 PM (GMT)
How were you planning on casting the voice-overs? Seeing who was the best out of friends of yours/the crew, or are you going to hold open casting? And how in the world would you orchestrate that?

And speaking of music, what kind were you planning on having? Stuff very similar to what is already in the game? What kind of band?

...This is starting to feel like third-degree.

Lionman363 - June 24, 2008 08:37 AM (GMT)
I once ran into a project like this before, a Golden Sun game made by a few fans, I believe the name was Isaac's Quest, this is the only link to it that I remember. http://www.gamemakergames.com/?a=view&id=1037

But this sounds good, the voice overs are a first for fan made games, well maybe not a first, but its quite rare, also what version of gamemaker are you using to create the game?

sol_blade - June 24, 2008 03:47 PM (GMT)
Lmao it sounds as if everyone here is trying to find reasons to make it more complicated. We should help with ideas or notes, i don't know how far he is in the game making but i don't think he has an answer to all of these questions :P

muhahaha and its been such a long time ive been here ~_~ school is hard :XP:

flamethrowerqueen - June 25, 2008 03:59 AM (GMT)
It's not even so much that we want the answers right now (for me, at least), but that if we pose them now, then he will have to make sure that he comes up with answers eventually for the questions. This may help to prevent some of these problems later. ^_^

sol_blade - June 26, 2008 03:55 AM (GMT)
bleh, your right :P
in any case im not that good of a video game designer as the next guy but hey, i say if he has any problems or question, he should post them here and we could help him, meh, just an idea :)

flamethrowerqueen - June 26, 2008 08:29 PM (GMT)
I'm no video game expert, but I can probably help with questions or opinions on plot design or characters.

Lionman363 - June 27, 2008 08:53 AM (GMT)
If you are stuck with the plot you should visit a few of the official Golden Sun websites, I'll post the links if I can find them.

flamethrowerqueen - June 27, 2008 10:23 PM (GMT)
I didn't mean with the original GS plot. I meant that if he was having issues with his own plot, the plot of the prequel that he's coming up with. If he needs any opinions on the plot or he needs opinions on characters that he will be coming up with, then I (and everyone else) will be here to help.

Ok. I'll register now...

flamethrowerqueen - June 28, 2008 04:21 AM (GMT)
I checked that out briefly, and couldn't find anything related to the game on there. Hm...maybe I just didn't look in the right spots....

ZaberTheAlmighty - June 28, 2008 07:18 AM (GMT)
I'm afraid I must disagree with this entirely. I already discussed this on MSN when he asked me to be a part of it and help out. While a nice thought and a pleasant concept, I can only think of it as a group of amateurs trying to accomplish something that it took vast numbers of professionals to accomplish twice before.

Don't mean to be a pessimist. I just can't see it being anything more than another failed attempt at GS3.

flamethrowerqueen - June 28, 2008 07:23 AM (GMT)
You're not a pessimist. You're a realist.

...And a dream-crusher. :XP: :( Just kidding.

I don't have hopes for much success either, but I'm really interested in seeing where he's going with this and how well this attempt of his will end up working.

ZaberTheAlmighty - June 28, 2008 07:28 AM (GMT)
A realist indeed. Thou hast most kindly hit it.

But don't get me wrong. I'd love to be proved wrong.

flamethrowerqueen - June 28, 2008 07:36 AM (GMT)
I'm sure that deep down...very deep down...it's still a dream of many of us to see another Golden Sun game realized. *sighs* To this day, I still think it's at least tied for my favorite GBA video game, if not favorite of any system, of all time.

ZaberTheAlmighty - June 28, 2008 07:48 AM (GMT)
It's an amazing game. Nintendo and the like are being inconclusive, but we at least know that they want to make another game. Maybe in the future. I finally have a DS, so I wouldn't mind it being on that. That is, if they stopped this "we're going to milk the touch screen and mic for everything they're worth" business.

flamethrowerqueen - June 28, 2008 07:58 AM (GMT)
*nods* Very true. They're nice features, but everyone seems to always make too much of new innovations.

:gssilence: I'd actually buy a DS just for a new Golden Sun game. >.< I'd hate to, but I would.

And since when has there been the rumor that they want to make another game? *eyes light up*

ZaberTheAlmighty - June 28, 2008 08:01 AM (GMT)
In an interview, someone of importance, can't remember who... said that they wanted to make another game. I wish I could tell you more, but I can't. Perhaps a wiki page can provide more information.

I actually enjoy my DS a lot. Pokemon Diamond and Phantom Hourglass were enough to keep me entertained for a while, and Star Fox was worth it because I'm a huge Star Fox fan. XD

flamethrowerqueen - June 28, 2008 05:32 PM (GMT)
Heh, Star Fox. I've never gotten into video games greatly enough to try all of the big Nintendo games like Star Fox and Mario. Golden Sun, Fire Emblem, and Pokemon Crystal are the main games I play for Game Boy, and I really only play Soul Calibur II and Super Smash Brothers Melee.

Still, yes, I've heard there are some good games for the DS. I myself would like to get Fire Red, as the older versions rock, but the animation just annoys me.

ZaberTheAlmighty - June 28, 2008 10:01 PM (GMT)
It honestly seems more likely that they'd make another Fire Emblem before another Golden Sun. -.-;

flamethrowerqueen - June 29, 2008 12:33 AM (GMT)
I'll second that. When did Golden Sun: The Lost Age come out? Four or five years ago? That's a long time...:gsfrown:

ZaberTheAlmighty - June 29, 2008 12:52 AM (GMT)
And how long was it between GS1 and GS2, eh?

flamethrowerqueen - June 30, 2008 02:50 AM (GMT)
I'd have to check on that. I don't think I got Golden Sun until GS:TLA was already out.

ZaberTheAlmighty - June 30, 2008 08:22 AM (GMT)
And I got it several months before GS2. I think I even reserved a copy and pestered the people at Gamestop until the shipment came on opening day.

flamethrowerqueen - June 30, 2008 08:15 PM (GMT)
*chuckles* Very nice. I was introduced by a group of friends, and I got hooked, but yes, it was a bit later.

ZaberTheAlmighty - July 1, 2008 07:49 AM (GMT)
I actually only got Golden Sun because I saw it in a magazine and it looked cool. Depicted Isaac using Ragnarok.

So I got the game and here I am.

flamethrowerqueen - July 1, 2008 03:39 PM (GMT)
Five years or so later, still talking with people that you meant four years ago because of said game. :gsjoy:

Mathias - July 2, 2008 12:11 AM (GMT)
I never bought it, I borrowed it from one guy and beat it. Then my brother got the sequel and I took it and beat it, he hardly even played it. Moved my data over and everything too.

*Goes and saves more money.*

flamethrowerqueen - July 2, 2008 11:49 PM (GMT)
Save more money for what?

>.> So you never had your own copy? How horrible! I remember that I used to have one file in TLA saved at a specific spot for the sole purpose of replaying the beginning section with Alex using the geyser on all of the workers at Venus Lighthouse. ^_^

Swordmaster - July 3, 2008 08:43 AM (GMT)
Yes, we will most likely distribute it across the net with disclaimers.

I’ll contact nee-san regarding a preview.

Casting is most definitely open to all.

Music-wise, my friend and his band will be doing most of the original pieces. The main genres in the game would most likely be classical, rock and synthesized.

Thanks Sol, yes, I’m preoccupied with summer school. Getting ahead in math so I’ll just have calculus in grade 12.

Ideas and opinions will help, mind you.

Thanks Wind, good to see you again.

Zaber - stop being a pain and help if anything.

I'll give more frequent updates and work on the details more, aside from summer school.

flamethrowerqueen - July 3, 2008 05:01 PM (GMT)
I'm tempted to see if I could show up for a casting call, but I don't think I'd be that good. :(

The Wind Seer - July 3, 2008 05:06 PM (GMT)
When will the casting call occur?

Show up? You mean just give us a sample.

Wind, as far as things go with my sis, it's still undecided.

Though, if I know my sis... then the auditions will consist of giving us a sample recording of you reading a line for your desired part (and you'd post it on youtube/send it to us).

I'll say this now:

There are still quite a few parts which need to be filled (such as Alex, Mia and the Mercury Clan Elder) so there's a pretty good possibility that if you try out, you'll get a part.
