Title: Role Playing Section?

The Wind Seer - June 13, 2008 03:41 AM (GMT)
I wonder if you could add a role playing section, martin. It could increase activity... maybe if the old members returned. :gsseatdrop: ...

*nervous attack*

Mathias - June 13, 2008 05:40 AM (GMT)
This has been discussed a couple of times actually, one of the more recent times I added a lot of insight. Nothing came to fruition of it though, even though It is a good idea. Right now I believe people, Suicine at least, are RPing on fuller sites already.

If a couple of good people are willing to put the effort into it though, I'm willing to add my services as well.

Lor - June 13, 2008 07:11 PM (GMT)
Nothing is going to bring this site back short of say, FEP crashing, and every admin ditching it, causing them to come here for all of their roleplaying needs. That, or Golden Sun 3 being announced.

It's not happening.

Mathias - June 13, 2008 07:55 PM (GMT)
Well, part of the reason this site began sliding downhill was because it crashed. Ever since the forum exploded we steadily just lost more and more.

At any rate, I really do expect to see some kind of RPG from Camelot in this gen of systems, either on the Wii or the DS. It was refreshing to see some Golden Sun material in Brawl and it really says something to see Isaac make it as an assist trophy and for one of the songs to be remastered for the game.

I don't see any point in holding your breath on this, but there really isn't any reason to give up all hope. Just sit back and enjoy other things, and keep checking the forum every couple of days at least like I do.

or I'll kill you...

Ok. So we have two people willing so far...

I do the same thing. But then again, I hardly ever have anything to say. But I feel loyalty to this place, so I always come back. Regardless of whther or not I have a reason.

Same. (goes to all the golden sun forums too. lol)

Sui-kun - June 14, 2008 11:12 PM (GMT)
So do you guys want a roleplaying section?

Maybe we could do a test for everyone here to see how well everyone can roleplay? What kind of roleplay does everyone to do?

Wind - June 15, 2008 05:04 PM (GMT)
Count me in for a roleplay section. Other than work, I really don't have much to do this summer.

God of the Black Flame: Canti - June 15, 2008 05:17 PM (GMT)
I'm not really interested in doing a role-play. Sorry.

Mathias - June 15, 2008 07:13 PM (GMT)
Suicine, you may want to list what kind of rolepaying there is. Because even I'm lost as to what you're asking.

The only thing I can think is that you're asking what kind of setting we should use. Like a Golden Sun or Fire Emblem or some other setting.

I would prefer Golden Sun... cause it's the only game I know.

Lor - June 15, 2008 10:48 PM (GMT)
Pokemon roleplay lul.

Mathias - June 16, 2008 12:29 AM (GMT)
I gets to be squirtlechu? or charizaur?

The Wind Seer - June 17, 2008 08:21 PM (GMT)
I vote for Golden Sun 3 role play!

Mathias - June 18, 2008 07:48 AM (GMT)
I could get into that.

ZaberTheAlmighty - June 20, 2008 01:01 AM (GMT)
The Nest has survived this long without an RP section. I don't really see a point.

The Wind Seer - June 20, 2008 04:01 PM (GMT)
Now what characters should we be?

Mewtation - June 22, 2008 07:41 PM (GMT)
Making me log in, guys, what the hell is wrong with you. :P

I'm pretty much with Lor on this. Nothing is going to revitalize this site short of FEP dying or GS3, and neither is likely going to happen. Not for a long, long while, at least.

As for the RP idea: okay, you want a RP. Are you going to do it freeform, which, in my experience, only ends badly, or are you going to do it structured? And if you structure it, who's going to come up with the rules? Are you going to use Weyard or some alternate world with the same philosophy? If you use Weyard, when is it taking place? Is it going to fall into the same canon as the games, and if it does, in the past or in the future? Are you going to involve major canon characters? If everyone has some sort of elemental power, how are you going to ensure characters don't get too goddish?

Believe me, designing a RP system isn't easy. I'm trying to design a Pokémon one for GTS+ and it's not easy at all. I really don't think Golden Sun is the best game to work a RP off of because it's so small compared to other sources (namely, the best ones I've seen have all been FEP's Fire Emblem basis, and I still think Pokémon works), but that's just me. Prove me wrong.

Mathias - June 22, 2008 10:23 PM (GMT)
It has to be structured, and the rules aren't too hard to handle as long as one or two people know what they're doing. The setting cannot be too strictly tied in with in kind of story we're already familiar with. We would need a lot of room to work in and develop characters and styles. We don't have to name the world before we begin, we can find out what the world is called as we progress. That's the best part about worlds, they're big. So big we could be doing any of our own thing in any part of the world and something may or may not be happening on another part.

I think elements are a good choice, with variety and perhaps a class/sub class system added in. Having a person choose an element, class, sub class, and then a weapon profession is easy to create rules for, and give the player many options to enjoy and feel unique with his selection.

I've done all this crap before, it isn't hard when you get enough practice, research, and experience in what is wrong and what isn't.

Like I said, I'm willing to give it a shot, but it takes people to make it work. Three or so dedicated rule makers and another five or six dedicated players are needed to get things started. After that it takes advertising and impressive work to get people into it from afar. If no one wants to do it that's fine with me, I've got plenty of stuff to busy myself with anyways.

flamethrowerqueen - June 23, 2008 05:59 PM (GMT)
...We've already tried a massive Role-play in the first place. Anyone else remember our awesome sub-forum? What happened there? I can't even remember anymore why that flopped.

Honestly, with the level of activity, I'm not sure that it's going to be worth it for you guys to try and figure something out. *shrugs* But, my 2 cents isn't worth as much these days. If you guys really want to give it a shot, I certainly wouldn't stop you. Heh, if you gave me a job to do, I might even help.

That's a big maybe, though.

Mathias - June 23, 2008 08:40 PM (GMT)
I don't expect anyone to do it, I'm just enjoying talking about it.

B)

flamethrowerqueen - June 23, 2008 09:59 PM (GMT)
*chuckles* Well, perfectly fine by me, then. Not that anybody ever needed my permission in the first place. ^_^

At any rate, yes, it does seem to be able to generate conversation, which would be the important thing. XD I think I might still have one of my RP descriptions from when we used to do it on the forum. *laughs* I definitely remember Sam. >.> And then Arianna, the girl who dressed in black leather. :XP: That was an interesting stage I was going through. :P

Mathias - June 24, 2008 04:34 AM (GMT)
Black leather.... oh my.

*cough*

Well, anyways. I think my idea has finally shown through. Roleplaying is possible and it would be nice. But what we need is people to start talking here again. We're doing that now and that's great, lets keep it going.

flamethrowerqueen - June 25, 2008 04:12 AM (GMT)
Right now, at least, I'm checking back at least every other day, if not every day. *shrugs* If we can keep some conversation going, that would be nice.

If we did try a roleplay, would we end up doing the clans again? While it was a lovely and fun idea, unfortunately, I don't think we have the man-power to do that anymore. >.>

No matter what, though, I definitely love GS's use of psynergy. Always a fun thing to have. :gshappy:

Yes, black leather. I was more obsessed with it in 9th grade than I am now as an incoming college freshmahn. Now I'm a bit more conservative/elegant in my RP attire.

Mathias - June 25, 2008 06:57 PM (GMT)
There really wouldn't be enough people to do clans. Assuming we have four clans, we would need each one to have at least 4 people I'd say. So, that means we would need over 20 people doing this to make sure this happened, since some clans or going to have more than others one way or another.

Intrestingly enough, I haven't had much of a change in the appearance of my characters over the years, aside from added detail.

flamethrowerqueen - June 26, 2008 03:00 AM (GMT)
It's such shame, too; it really is a great idea, if you have the manpower--er, player power.

If you'll remember correctly from way back when (which I'm doubting you will), I was quite the hyper-active little minx when I first came onboard to The Nest. Thankfully, I've mellowed out quite a bit. I'm still energetic, but a bit more mature. I think. :gsseatdrop:

:P

Mathias - June 26, 2008 05:34 AM (GMT)
Well considering the posting going elsewhere and the ignoring going here. No manpower will be contributed. It's actually surprising, usually forum goers flock to threads with females posting in them.

LOL.

Do I remember you, do you remember me? I had much worse grammar back then. I had typos and spelling issues everywhere. And I typed all kinds of immature random things. We all only change so much though, we're better now but deep down the child stays alive.

Curflabulant.

flamethrowerqueen - June 26, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
*laughs* I do vaguely remember you. We were all such immature little kids back then. ^_^ It's a lot of fun coming back here and seeing how everyone has changed over the years. It's just a shame that not a lot of people are here any more.

See, the problem is that no one knows this forum exists. If they did know, they would of course come flocking here because of a female with such a lovely personality. -_-

The Wind Seer - June 28, 2008 04:14 AM (GMT)
I could try to get my brother to be activity here and post in the rpg.

flamethrowerqueen - June 28, 2008 04:19 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure how much help that would be. It's feels like we're a snake slithering about through the idea patch without its head, frankly. >.>

I was going to bring that up, but since I didn't have an account for it and couldn't check, I couldn't feel justified mentioning it.

And Miss Queen has raised another point with great weight: inactivity. This fact, combined with Mew's mention of a lack of structure, points to a fact that those supporting the idea are loath to admit: it just won't work.

@ Mathias: I'm thrilled at the change in your speech. I almost didn't recnognize you as the same person, and wouldn't have if you weren't still sporting that avatar I made for you. ;)

"See, the problem is that no one knows this forum exists. If they did know, they would of course come flocking here because of a female with such a lovely personality."

My, aren't we humble. XD Nay, I kid. Though it's certainly a misconception that forumgoers flock to females as moths to a flame.

flamethrowerqueen - June 28, 2008 07:01 AM (GMT)
*laughs* I was merely working off of Mathias' idea! I may be amusing, but certainly not enough to cause people to come here simply because of me. :gshappy:

As for the old RP forum, I remember trying to access it the last time I came back here for a visit (somewhere in August/September, I think) and I'm pretty sure that the entire forum had been deleted. If anyone has any evidence to the contrary, that would be excellent.

And yes, probably a common misconception, what with the whole computer geek/nerd status of not being able to attract a girl. :} Not that any of you guys have that problem, I'm sure. :P

ZaberTheAlmighty - June 28, 2008 07:07 AM (GMT)
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but I've been with my girlfriend Amber for almost a year now.

But uh, what was it, Rule 15? One of the rules of the internet deftly states that there are no girls on the internet. Not that anyone listens to them. XD God, I need to stay away from 4chan.

RP forum... well, like I said. Wish I could help, but I never had an account.

flamethrowerqueen - June 28, 2008 07:10 AM (GMT)
Oh, ok, I missed that as the reason for you being unable to check. Yes, I'm 99% sure that it got deleted.

And no, I wasn't being sarcastic, it was just said in a teasing tone. ^_^ 'Tis different.

o_O If I'm not a girl, then what am I?

ZaberTheAlmighty - June 28, 2008 07:13 AM (GMT)
I believe it was rule 50 that stated every girl is a man and every kid is an FBI agent. Like I said, they're not to be taken seriously. Except Rules 1, 2, and 34.

flamethrowerqueen - June 28, 2008 07:21 AM (GMT)
As much as I don't believe it, it makes a modicum of sense. :P

What are rules 1, 2, and 34, then?

ZaberTheAlmighty - June 28, 2008 07:26 AM (GMT)
Well, Rule 1 is Do not talk about /b/.
Rule 2 is Do NOT talk about /b/.

Rule 34 is not work safe, and children should avert their eyes and all those willing should highlight the next seemingly blank line below this one.

Rule 34 states that if it exists, there is porn of it. No exceptions.

flamethrowerqueen - June 28, 2008 07:29 AM (GMT)
*busts out laughing* Oh my God, completely true! Horribly (or not, depending on your viewpoint) and completely true!

ZaberTheAlmighty - June 28, 2008 07:33 AM (GMT)
I choose to see it as "or not." But hey, it has it's exceptions for things that would cause an internet goer to cry, "DO NOT WANT!"

I guess it's the concept of an exception to every rule, except this one.

Getting dangerously off topic as is. I guess that's another reason an RP section wouldn't work. How long would it take for posters to get distracted and off topic?
