Title: Paradox of Value
Description: Short poem I did in Economics.

SuicuneSol - February 13, 2007 01:49 AM (GMT)
Paradox of Value

My jingling pocket in the desert will make me rot;
The death of me may be the diamond in my hand
If quench my thirst this diamond cannot
In these rolling hills of burning, hot sand.

And yet, this diamond's value is higher than the sun
In the city streets that turn to a mire,
And at the nearest bazaar to which I run
Where I may buy sweet wine to my heart's desire.

Ok...it's good...

It's quite a good poem.
It must be bad having money for food but starving because there aren't any shops.

flamethrowerqueen - September 24, 2007 10:24 PM (GMT)
Yes...the dilema of Economics is when money no longer has any value.

A very good poem, Suicune. It gets your theme across nicely.

SuicuneSol - September 24, 2007 11:38 PM (GMT)
AW.... I got a reply! :gsjoy: I wish someone could elaborate, but there's not much to elaborate on is there? XD I'll be happy I got comments.

flamethrowerqueen - September 25, 2007 12:48 AM (GMT)
I tried to elaborate with the theme comment.

The rhyming scheme is also good without seeming too forced. Your descriptions, especially in a poem of its length, is exceptional (I especially loved the phrase "In these rolling hills of burning, hot sand"). Your language is always so good! ^_^

(Better?)

SuicuneSol - September 25, 2007 04:32 AM (GMT)
XP I'm sorry. But thanks. Can you write poems too, Sam?

flamethrowerqueen - September 25, 2007 07:39 PM (GMT)
:gsseatdrop: Heh, depends on your definition of "poetry". Most of it...isn't very good. However, I can post one of my better poems, and you can judge me yourself, so long as you keep in mind that it's mostly downhill from there. >.>

By they way, I hope you don't mind, but...we actually just learned about the Paradox of Value in Government and Economics class today, and I would like to read your poem in class tomorrow, if that's alright.

SuicuneSol - October 1, 2007 11:37 PM (GMT)
AHHHHH!H!H!HH!H!H!H

...did you do it?

flamethrowerqueen - October 2, 2007 01:12 AM (GMT)
:gsseatdrop: I kind of forgot to print it out. I had kind of wanted your permission, anyhow. Is it ok? At this point, since we just ended the unit, I'll probably just be showing it to the teacher instead of to the whole class. >.>

SuicuneSol - October 2, 2007 04:14 AM (GMT)
I would have given you permission... if you presented it as someone else's work. If you said "teacher, look at this great poem I wrote!" Well then, that'd be a different story. I don't want you getting in trouble for something that isn't yours.

But of course, you wouldn't do that right? :gsjoy:

flamethrowerqueen - October 2, 2007 10:38 AM (GMT)
:gsangry: No, of course I wouldn't!!! I'd never try to pass of your work as my own. :gsangry:

I told my teacher about it when I first thought of the idea and said that one of my friends from an online forum had written a poem about the Paradox of Value, which I thought was really coincidental since he lives in CA and asked if he wanted me to bring it in. So, he already knows that I didn't write it.

I think much too highly of your own work, and both of our integrity, to do something as low as taking credit for your writing. I'll never be that good. :gsjoy:

Lionman363 - October 2, 2007 02:07 PM (GMT)
I smel a.....wtf?

Just messin' its a nice poem! ^_^

SuicuneSol - October 2, 2007 07:23 PM (GMT)
Thank you Courageous Lion for your remark.

Very well then. You have my permission. Dang. I wish I gave you permission sooner. :/

Lionman363 - October 2, 2007 07:27 PM (GMT)
Suiciune do me a favor and stop calling me a courageous Lion,Im not courageous Im even afraid of spiders and Im a male!
Im more of a.......humorus Lion,so call me that from now on ok? '_'

SuicuneSol - October 2, 2007 08:02 PM (GMT)
So, you don't like Courageous Lion? You remind me of Courage the lion from 'The Wizard of Oz.' Very well. I won't call you that anymore.

Lionman363 - October 2, 2007 08:13 PM (GMT)
Yeah......it sounds too soft, actually you arent very strict when someone breaks a rule, you could learn some lessons from me if you want,Im the great arrogant lion!

SuicuneSol - October 2, 2007 08:38 PM (GMT)
That's true. Some administrators from any other sites would, at this point, obliterate you from their sight by banning you. For the record, I'm reaching the limit, Lionman.

I need to teach you forum etiquette.

flamethrowerqueen - October 3, 2007 02:15 AM (GMT)
Okie Dokie, humorous Lion.

At any rate, Suicune, I do think that he's improving, and that a lot of the problems were stemming from identity issues.

But still, a lesson in forum etiquette wouldn't hurt any of us, I imagine.

STOP TALKING ABOUT YOUR COUSIN!

You've said that in literally every. open. topic.

And in most of them, I have said that I got it. I have also apologized for blaming you for your cousin's actions in half of those posts.

Please stop telling us. In my last post, if you will look, I did acknowledge that Valten had stolen your account when I said that "a lot of the problems were stemming from identity issues".

I said that I thought you were improving because I think that your forum etiquette, not Valten's, could use some work as well. I'm not trying to say that I'm "high and mighty" or overly critical...that's just my opinion.

FelixGSTLA - October 5, 2007 03:39 AM (GMT)
This topic has gone completely off track...

Well.... back on topic. I read the poem a couple times and its great. It makes me wonder how long it will be until money loses all value...

I also saw in the poem what the fate of the last remaining person on Earth (or last living thing) would be. No one to trade with, and surrounded by nothing but a barren wasteland. Even if that person had everything in the world, all has no meaning because there is no one else there.
Just something I saw in the first stanza.

No offense mate, but you put a little too much into your post.
I suggest you could have just said,'Stop talking about your cousin!I know he is sharing your account and is getting you trouble I understand'
End of story....ish.

I would have, but every time I put just that, I swear that it's been overlooked, because after I posted something like that, I'd see something about cousin in four other topics. Now, I did say after. So now you know. Good. What were we talking about, again? Ah, right, Suicune's poem.

*grins* As soon as my memory kicks in, Suicune, I will share the poem with my teacher and I will tell you what he thinks of it.
We had a substitute today, anyway. -_-

Lionman363 - October 7, 2007 04:58 PM (GMT)
See your doing it again!Come on mate posting extremely long posts doesnt make you any better(unless in the spam forum)and furthermore...(nags on)

I feel sad for Suicune. His topic is becoming an argument thread which has no point whatsoever....

Felix: *shrugs* We have to have somewhere to talk. Most of us have already commented on Suicune's poem, anyway (I'm pretty sure I have multiple times).

Lion: There is nothing wrong with long posts. Long posts are usually preferred to shorter posts. And I never said that I thought that long posts made me better. Short replies can be fine too, so long as they are literate. >.>

I suppose so,sorry won't happen again, just got a bit crazy there you know?
A poem in economics suicune? Why did you do it in economics?

SuicuneSol - October 11, 2007 08:44 AM (GMT)
We were supposed to make poems out of the concept of the changing value of money.

Everyone else did simple little "Roses are red, Violets are blue..." or rhyming ones. I was proud, but a little disappointed because it didn't make any difference. What can you do.

It's alright, everyone. :) You need not force yourselves to keep a topic going. There's only so much you can say, unless you go off topic.
