Title: New Splash Page
Description: Farewell MG
Marlin Beta - December 19, 2006 06:04 AM (GMT)
Because I finally find myself with a little time on my hands, I have made the decision to redo the splash page. It is not finished yet, but I think I can settle on a logo for Aerie of the Roc at last. From this day forward, the flaming feather will be the universal symbol for the Aerie. Now for the second announcement; I am going to do away with Marlin Gaming. I have little hope that any new, meaningful content will grace the pages of the Aerie, so it only makes sense to condense the site. Therefore, I am basically going to be turning the site into an online resume over the next semester. Any opinions or suggestions are welcome. Keep checking back over the next few days to see if anything has changed. For those of you who are not yet finished with your finals (like me) good luck.

My Lord...
Whatever do you mean, Marlin-sama? What do you mean "turn the Aerie into an online resume?"
How do you mean the Aerie of the Roc will change?

Basically, I'm going to be using the Aerie as a way to publicize myself to potential employers. I consider it one of my greatest creations, so it only makes sense to use it as an sample for my growing portfolio.

but by doing this are you going to deal away with us being able to post? i mean when you said you are doing away with marlin gaming it makes it sound like you are taking away a place that many people have come to know and love. i mean i have to respect your decision and accept it however i wish that this place would still be here so that i can continue with conversing with suicune isaac lor and the such. this place was the first forum that i stayed at for more than a day and here i am now looking upon its potential destruction. not a place i wished iw ould be but if that is your final decision marlin then by all means sempai however you know how i feel.

I only said that Marlin Gaming was going away and that Aerie of the Roc is no longer going to be taking on new content. The Roc's Nest is going to be staying the same. There is nothing to worry about in the way that forums are concerned.

ok that is good i was worried about the future of the rocs nest but seeing as how it will still be here i am no longer frustrated at the idea of loosing such a wonderful place.

I'm moving on to a new thought now, so stay with me. ^_^
I'd just like to let everyone know that I hope their holiday season is going well. Mine was great. Other than that, it is going to be difficult to be online most of the time because I'm stuck on dial-up for the next few weeks. I'll keep checking back, so keep an eye out for me. :)

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been active in a while. It's a lot of site work/family issues/etc. that's keeping me from my forums.
You know, I didn't even know there was a splash page, until this update. o_O Learn something new everyday.

Marlin Beta.
I'll be completely honest with you. I understand that you wish to use this creation of yours (Aerie of the Roc) to appeal to your potential, future employers by turning it into an online resume, as you say. However, this also means that you are completely closing off a future for Aerie of the Roc. You have no problem with that, as you believe there is no future for Aerie of the Roc anyways. You say, "No worries, for The Roc's Nest will be completely safe and unchanged."
My experience with (joining) forums has taught me that (most) forums without a substantial website behind them always die out, or are never alive in the beginning. If I'm understanding correctly, you will be getting rid of Aerie of the Roc and its content, making room for a more professional site to flaunt your website-making talents (aka. a resume). I'm concerned, because the absence of Aerie of the Roc will undoubtedly affect activity and the intake of new members. Are you sealing the fate of The Roc's Nest, a set of forums that has lived so long on so few members? I think you are. Please don't say The Roc's Nest won't be affected, because that is definitely not true.
Of course, maybe it doesn't matter. Maybe it doesn't matter because The Roc's Nest will be a dead set of forums anyways. It is inevitable that everyone that ever made their mark on the nest is going to disappear because--after all--we have real lives, and a silly little group of forums really means nothing in the midst of them.
Ah... I should have known it to be coming. All good things come to an end, after all. You know it as well as I. The Roc's Nest is not forever.
All the more reason I should hurry up and chronicle our adventures.

I think you're still being confused by the misunderstanding, Suicune. Aerie of the Roc is simply not going to be taking on more content. I'm not going to change the site into something else. The Aerie is going to simply stay "The Aerie" without major changes. The website (as it is) is an example of my portfolio for potential employers to see just what I've been doing for the past eight years of my life.
Don't worry. I'm still going to be managing the site as well as being an active webmaster and I'll forever be a part of the Golden Sun community. However, I have no plans in the immeditate future to use The Aerie as anything other than a work sample. That's not to say that I expect The Aerie to become more or less successful. It is only that The Nest is something for me to use as a supplement to The Aerie. So in summary:
1. The Aerie is not taking content from outside contributors
2. The Aerie is not going to be seriously changing in any way that users will notice.
3. The Nest is my way of sharing with the community that shares my interests.
I hope that clears things up.

Ok, what is a splash page?
SuicuneSol - January 9, 2007 01:19 AM (GMT)
A Splash page is this: www.marlingaming.net
It is the "web" page that links you to different areas of the site. It is what you call "The Lobby" in a hotel.
Okay, that's good. I was a tad bit concerned there...
