Title: Site Name Change
Description: Something New and Fresh
Marlin ßeta - November 15, 2005 07:06 PM (GMT)
As I detailed in the latest news topic (November 15th) I'm thinking of changing the name of Aerie of the Roc. First of all, I'd like to know if anyone thinks "Aerie of the Roc" sounds like it's associated with Golden Sun. If not, I'm proposing taking on one of the names of the lighthouses: Mars Lighthouse. (Actually it would be more like: Mars Lighthouse: Aerie of the Roc)
This site has been vacant for longer than I can remember and it's the element of my choice. I want to hear opinions. Big discussion please! B)
ZaberTheAlmighty - November 15, 2005 08:58 PM (GMT)
I say NAY! I happen to like the name Aerie of the Roc.
God of the Black Flame: Canti - November 15, 2005 09:08 PM (GMT)
I would have said no immediately, but... it really doesn't sound like it has anything to do with Golden Sun, and though I love the name, it could eventually be in the best interest of the whole site to change the name... I'm undecided, but if we had to change, I like the Mars Lighthouse: Aerie of the Roc. That way I can still call it the Aerie.
SuicuneSol - November 15, 2005 10:58 PM (GMT)
More red. :C
I would've liked to keep Aerie of the Roc... but Canti is right that the name might be the source of the site's misfortune. A name change might not be a bad experiment. I don't like the Mars Lighthouse altogether (as a name, and as a lightouse), not that my opinion will effect anything. I think something else might be nice... like... hm... something that isn't "(Insert site name): Aerie of the Roc." Naw a' mean?
...perhaps - November 15, 2005 11:28 PM (GMT)
Hmm I dunno. I don't quite like the ring of the proposed name, or rather the lack of ring, I guess is what I'm getting at. It's true though that the current name has no obvious connection to Golden Sun. On the other hand, we don't really talk about GS very much anymore, seeing as it's old and all that stuff. I'm pretty content with the current name, but if you do change it, I'd hope for something different from the Mars Lighthouse thing. Of course, if you do use that name I'm not going to make a big stink about it or anything like that.
Oh, didn't realize it's a poll. I'm not sure which to vote, though, because while I feel that no, it doesn't need to be changed I don't think "Aerie of the Roc is directly related to Golden Sun."
Oh wait, I think I've been interpretting this mildly wrong, but, whatever.
Atomsk - November 16, 2005 12:49 AM (GMT)
well isint a Roc just a bird beast in the game you destroy at medium levels? but i guess a new name is in order, but i wouldnt like mars lighthouse, or any lighthouse. to specific i think. i dont know what you would like to name i, i dont care in all reality, but as long as it has aerie in it its cool with me.
vicious tom - November 16, 2005 12:58 AM (GMT)
I like the Aerie, but not the mars lighthouse. Maybe something more original than a lighthouse? Whats the name of the city in the sky or on the moon? (I heard someone talking about something like that :?: ) I don't want to change the name , but if you do then make it something everybody likes. You should take up a bunch of ideas and have a huge pole to decide. Give the pole a month so we can get as many people as possible.
P.S. I googled "golden sun forums" and the roc's nest came up third... not bad B)
ZaberTheAlmighty - November 16, 2005 01:03 AM (GMT)
The Roc was a rather weak enemy... And I don't know if it really relates... but I like AotR too much. Just a creature of habit.
windseer1986 - November 16, 2005 03:06 AM (GMT)
The city was called anemos. I really like that name, but wasn't there a site called the anemos sanctum? Maybe I'm just remembering wrong. Still, if the site is going to be called anything from golden sun, Sol Sanctum has always been my favorite.
Hmmmm...maybe "Sanctum of the Sun" would be a cool name.
SuicuneSol - November 16, 2005 03:08 AM (GMT)
Maybe we should revert back to Mercury-Mars United: Aerie of the Roc.
Marlin ßeta - November 16, 2005 04:22 AM (GMT)
The main idea behind all of this talk is that I originally went with Aerie of the Roc because everyone had "Golden Sun" in the name of their site. I wanted something 100% original. But I now think that my past decision may have hindered the site originally. I think it would be better to change the site's name sooner moreso than later. We all know that GS III is a very anticipated game and during this lull between the second and the third I'd like to implement some effective changes. If Mars Lighthouse isn't the name of choice I'm open to suggestions. However, I'm going to keep the firey theme of the site. That much will not change. Actually, it was in my head to incorporate the current teal with a red tone that might set it off.
Lets all just keep in mind that any changes to the site are just in the planning stages at this point. It's very early and I also wanted to generate some energy around here. Now that that is said, I'd apprecate some more suggestions. B)
Ashes_Of_Fire - November 16, 2005 05:32 AM (GMT)
Well, I said no, mainly because it is a Golden Sunish name.
Another thing is it seems new members etc. here havn't heard of the game or played it. So they tend to make us revolve around and talk about other things. ie. we have a Zelda section and Fire Emblem things like that.
windseer1986 - November 16, 2005 05:42 AM (GMT)
Yeah, at this point, not many people are becoming new to golden sun, and many who were into it are losing interest in it. And face it, theres a 95% chance that golden sun 3 will never be made. I don't think changing to a more "golden sunny" name won't do much for the site. As it is, many of the other GS sites are dying off, so this is one of the only remaining GS communities. Therefore, if GS3 does somehow get made, this site will have a head up on most others as one of the more trusted, experienced GS communities. I don't really think a change is necessary.
vicious tom - November 16, 2005 06:58 PM (GMT)
*nods head* OK, let's face the facts
1 GS is no longer in its prime, soon will be forgotten completely
2 This sight is no longer in its prime, there is nothing new happening and there is only so much that you can say about a game
3 Nobody new joins to talk about GS because everything has been said
4 the current members dont come back to talk about GS, the only reason they come back is because everybody has made frineds and its hard to leave a friend
5 The current members that DO come back only talk about anime and video games in general (and fanfics, but I think people are losing inerest a little(I am))
6 there is no GS3 and there never will be one (deep down inside, i think we all knew)
7 changing the name of the site this late in the game will only tick off a lot of memebers and nothing else (but you can always change it back so what the heck)
I still dont have a site name idea yet...

Okay, first of all, I feel very compelled to refute a lot of these points.
1. We all know that GS is not in its prime, but the purpose of this site is so that it will NEVER be forgotten. Don't start talking about dreadful things like they're certain to happen.
2. It's spelled "site" not "sight."
3. Not true. I still get several people who join (but usually don't return very often) because they're having trouble with the games.
6. THERE WILL BE A GS III. WE ALL KNOW THIS FOR SURE, 100%.
7. Taking my response to #7 into account, changing the site's name could do good things when GS III comes out.
windseer1986 - November 17, 2005 12:33 AM (GMT)
GS3 is not coming, just face it. I would love to be proven wrong, but I'm 99% sure I am right.
God of the Black Flame: Canti - November 17, 2005 01:19 AM (GMT)
Marlin, sorry to disagree with you, as you seem... to be very touchy on this subject... but I too am not so sure of GSIII ever surfacing. I mean, I would love if that were to happen, but there's no promises...
SuicuneSol - November 17, 2005 02:23 AM (GMT)
(I second all of Marlin's rebutes toward Vicious Tom's claims.)
Sure, GS3 is somewhat unlikely to appear. But there is no way to prove its non-existence just yet. You can't say "it won't come out" because it hasn't not come out yet. Don't kill our faith just yet.
Personally, I'm not 100% sure Golden Sun 3 will come out anytime soon. It WILL come out. I'll make sure of it. :bigcool: Just not anytime soon with Camelot rebuilding their production team and everything. (I wonder why they did that...)
So, that's why we still need to be a Golden Sun site. When it does come out, we'll be here to inform new adepts about its glorious history. We'll be veterans; the group that newbies will come and look to. Thus, the Aerie will be famous!
If it never comes out, we'll have a small deathday cake and celebrate. Simple. The absence of GS3 should NOT hinder the site's progress. The best way for a site to survive is to adapt. It's called Survival of the Fittest, [strike]proposed by yours truly[/strike]. I don't think the future of the site should depend on GS3, or it'll just fall. We'll still cover it. We just need some other areas of interest as well.
windseer1986 - November 17, 2005 02:50 AM (GMT)
Yes, we should all watch for the next hit game that we can cover, and maybe make suggestions every time we have a good idea. Because we can't survive on GS alone, as its become apparent.
Marlin ßeta - November 17, 2005 06:09 AM (GMT)
If you're looking for games that suffered a terrible drought, look at Metroid. Between Super Metroid and Metroid Prime there was almost a decade long lull. Now the game is back with overwhelming popularity. You can say all of the pessimistic things you want, but I will not waver in my solidarity behind GS III.
But back on topic, it seems that most either agree that the site needs a change or are reluctant (go figure  ). However, there is consensis that Mars Lighthouse: Aerie of the Roc isn't the name of choice. But I haven't heard any more suggestions. Remember, I'm keeping the fire theme for the site, so something has to fit. Other than that I'll be all ears. B)
Rozzlynn - November 20, 2005 03:14 PM (GMT)
The site is already Mars Lighthouse themed, and already referred to as a beacon of flame. The blue/green colours and the lack of a full title at the top of the home page seem to me like they're muting that theme; even if they do look alright, they don't really seem to express what you had in mind with all the Mars associations. I'd like to see you go all-out with Mars Lighthouse before I'd start thinking up other firey alternatives. I want to see what it is you have in mind, and how you imagine the roc being Mars aligned. But that doesn't seem to be the consensus... It sounds like an interesting story too, that the roc might leave the mountains and nest in the Lighthouse instead. Would you ever write about that?
I don't know whether a name change would help or hinder this place's survival, and if GSIII is never made, that would be dreadful.

| the current members dont come back to talk about GS |
I do! I guess I'd really better get a move on - I haven't been talking so much in those threads as my time's been occupied by the cafe. Even so, GS has come up in a few threads I've been in recently, and it's the game I like talking about most.
There is one way we can make sure GSIII will be made, isn't there? Given a few years, we can all get jobs at Camelot!
Lor - November 28, 2005 09:30 PM (GMT)
How about something related to Lemuria?
Everyone likes Lemuria.
Or perhaps something to deal with Colosso? (I think that's the name.)

The guy with the "Metroid idea" died. (Gunpei Yokoi)
It was a sad death indeed :(

Of course, we can't rule out the posibility that GSIII might come out. But when? will it be in ten years like metroid prime,if so,will we still be interested? At least if nintendo showed the least of interest in a GSIII there might still be a chance. But im not getting my hopes up... :bigsad:
...perhaps - November 29, 2005 02:44 AM (GMT)
Hmm, yes, to continue a point that I think you were partly suggesting, sol_blade, it is true that(correct me if I'm wrong, I think it's true) Metroid could have a big gap like that and not really matter because the old ones were back in the days when games like that didn't need much of a plot (Oh how I miss those days. Shadow the Hedgehog, what are you doing in my life!) so nobody was looking for, "what happens next?" With Golden Sun, however, the whole reason we want more is the plot. After so long, it would be somewhat disrupted, I think. So the bottom line is that I don't think the Metroid example is as potent of evidence in favor of GS3 as I'd like it to be, but I haven't given up all hope either.
sol_blade - November 29, 2005 09:44 PM (GMT)
Well, since golden sun is a game with numerous possible plots,it makes GS fans always wanting more. i think thats what caused a succes of GS2. But if that's the case, won't making a third game make nintendo ALOT of profit? I mean, with ps3 and xbox 360, there are tons of awseome games to come with them. If they could put GS3 in the new nintendo console, im not saying that it will put them back in front of the competition, but it will surely put themback in the game...
God of the Black Flame: Canti - November 30, 2005 10:29 PM (GMT)
Actually from what I've heard (and I've heard very little, save from the annoying kid who of course, got the Xbox 360 the day it came out), the 360 is doing very very bad. It's apparently crashing alot, it's unstable and all. Guess they shouldn't have haaaad to get that head start on the competition. Idiots.
Anyway, back on... well, the current topic. GS is a great pair of games and all, but I don't really think a GSIII alone would pull it back in that much...
sol_blade - November 30, 2005 10:33 PM (GMT)
You would be surprised at how many kids( and adults) would buy a console for a game. I woulden't :sweatdrop: , but my friend probably has every console made by man....from nes to xbox 360.
( and every game that goes with them.)
Marlin ßeta - December 1, 2005 03:10 AM (GMT)
At the very least, keeping the GS series on GBA will be a plausable idea because the DS is backwards compatible.
But back to the site name topic. Has anyone anymore ideas that might be lucrative?
sol_blade - December 1, 2005 12:04 PM (GMT)
I dunno. I like the roc's nest but if you're going to change it, i woulden't pick a lighthouse. Why? because if you pick mars lighthouse, people who like venus better will be less atracted to the site...just a point worth mentioning...
Marlin ßeta - December 1, 2005 01:09 PM (GMT)
Okay everyone. Please read the topic. The Roc's Nest is NOT getting a name change. Aerie of the Roc is the site that I feel needs a name change.
Now, once again. Has anyone anymore ideas that might be lucrative?
sol_blade - December 1, 2005 09:24 PM (GMT)
oh :sweatdrop: XP sorry about that. I have the memory of a goldfish
Maybe something like...The wise one's lair?or maybe the name of a town like lemuria? :?:
Marlin ßeta - December 9, 2005 03:59 AM (GMT)
Well, I want to keep it fire-themed. But I did openly ask for suggestions. I'll think about anything that would work. If anyone else can think of a good idea (hopefully, fire-based like I said). Other than that, I guess the site probably wouldn't change anytime soon. B)
ZaberTheAlmighty - December 10, 2005 06:02 PM (GMT)
>.> The Light of Mars, perhaps? I really dunno. I'll have better suggestions later.
WarriorAngel01 - December 11, 2005 01:12 AM (GMT)
How about Age of the Sun or something corny like that? I just got that by combining the Lost Age of Man and Golden Sun. >_>
Jaken Veina - December 30, 2005 10:49 PM (GMT)
Marlin, if you change the name, I will kill you. Plain and simple. :bigsleep:
finalage - December 30, 2005 10:58 PM (GMT)
Hey, im an exeption im new and i come back and according to the site stats..i make an average of 11.61 posts a day!!! I'd disagree with that.
Second of all PLEASE DON'T CHANGE THE SITES NAME!!!!
It symolizes Golden Sun enough and is original, anyone who cannot realize that is not a complete fan of the Golden Sun Series. Simply put, don't change the title.
