Title: Howl's Moving Castle

windseer1986 - October 1, 2005 06:22 AM (GMT)
Has anybody seen the latest Hayao Miyazaki masterpiece, Howl's Moving Castle?
I saw it a few days ago. It was amazing. For anyone who doesn't know, Miyazaki is the one behind Spirited Away, Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind, Princess Mononoke, and many other great movies. For anyone who likes anime: see this movie. I don't want to post any plot spoilers, because it is one of those movies where it is better to watch it knowing nothing about it. I love the way the plot unfolds, and although the ending was WTF-worthy, the story was very solid. Go see this. NOW.

Ah, I loved this movie! I wanted to see it in theaters when it came out, but it wasn't playing anywhere near me (they never are. Ghost in the Shell 2 and the Cowboy Bebop Movie weren't either. ) But I couldn't wait, so I downloaded it. I've only seen it in Japanese. I'm curious about the english version, but since I'm used to the Japanese, I'll probably not like it as well. Anyway, it was definitely a great movie. One of my best friends bought the artbook for it. Miyazaki is such a movie genius. I'm in the middle of watching Nausicaa (well, not actually watching right now, but I've watched a bit and need to continue), and I have a few other Miyazaki movies to download and watch. I really would like to own them all on DVD one day. I've not seen a bad one yet.

Yeah, his movies are amazing. I think Nausicaa was my favorite out of the 4 that I have seen. Here are some good links:

Absolutely. I saw it last weekend. I loved the book, and I loved the film.

A little kid in the row behind kept asking 'what just happened?' whenever things got strange. ^_^ My friend was rather taken by the film too; he said that there wouldn't have been a way to give that kid a complete answer without writing an essay on the symbolism.

I have no idea. Its in theaters, I believe. They played it at my school.

I saw it on Monday, and it was amazing. Although it began to make little sense towards the end. Despite this, the artwork was spectacular and the characters were great to watch. I liked the strange little dog which liked to run around in circles for no apparent reason. I also thought the scene where Sophie and the Witch of the Waste were struggling to climb the palace steps was hilarious.

Yeah, I thought the ending was kind of stupid. "Oh look, they're all happy. I think we'll just end the war out of nowhere."

Did anybody else go OMFG AWEXOME!!!! that first time it shows Howl open the black door, and he just floats backwards into the red sky? I love that magic door concept. It was pretty cool.

Absolutely. And the dreams... the corridors lined with childish toys. And all the other ways they expressed his secret.

The end was less abrupt in the book, I remember that much.

I thought that Howls moving castle was awsome
I only wish that Howl could've broken the spell on Sophie.

I only wish it was coming out sooner than march on dvd... :C

You could just download it with bittorrent, if you have enough time online that is, it takes like hours, sometimes days.

You're question can be answered by reading all the posts up to now.

And posting on an old topic I didn't get a chance to comment on is better than making 3 GSIII topics.

We need to get these old topics back out again to give the nest some variety, im sick and tired of all the topics being about.... nothing.
