Title: what would you add?
Description: if you were making gs3...

windseer1986 - April 12, 2005 04:09 PM (GMT)
Basically like the title suggests, what would you add/improve upon/keep the same if you were making the next golden sun game?

One thing I would like to improve upon is the party. In both games, you have the full party early in the game, and in gs2 it is really annoying because you get 3/4 of the party at the start, and have to wait a while to get the fourth one. While introducing the characters early on does allow for some character development, I would like to see you start out with the main character, and maybe sometime early on, like after 2 bosses or so, gain the second, just to help you survive. Then, quite a bit later in the story, some drastic event would cause you to meet the third member, who would save you from some danger, and then follow you because he believes in your cause and sees that you need more help. Then, later on, you would encounter a two characters who were originally trying to stop you, but one of them realizes that what you are doing is right and turns to your side after their former partner tries to get rid of them.

I actually thought of a story to go behind this, as I was typing it, but his post is already long enough ^_^

I'd of course add more djinn, it's only expected. I would also make much more complex classes, so that it could be more interesting to fool around with. The class-changing items would have more variety in how you can work with them. Other than that, mostly I'd just add to the plot and create some new characters. In fact, I think I'd make it happen several years later, and you would get Eoleo. He might even be the main character actually. Maybe I'd also make a werewolf from whatever that town was called join your party. Nobody would come back from the dead, though.

windseer1986 - April 12, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
yeah, definitely no OMG STAUROS ADN MENADI IS COMEBAK TO LIEF!!11!1

another thing I would like to see, would be the items having greater significance in the storyline. After looking at fanfics, I realized that the role of artifacts like the sol blade are not even spoken of in the game, with the exceptions of the shamans rod, which is useless in the actual gameplay, the trident, which is actually kind of cool, and the cloud brand, which is decent but quickly replaced by other weapons.
What I would really like to see would be items integrated into the storyline in subtle ways. so not just finding them in random chests, but also nothing overblown. For example, I'll use the old 'dragon-in-a-cave' cliche, say you were in a town, where at that point in the storyline, you needed to defeat the dragon in the cave near the town(barf). Now maybe one of the minor npcs in town would say something about the last person who tried to kill the dragon, and how he had a very powerful weapon. Now, as you explore the cave, you would see a skeleton on the ground. If you hadn't taken the time to talk to the npcs, you might pass by, but if you checked on the ground nxt to the bones you would find the weapon they were talking about. probably not a great example, but you should be able to see what I mean.

oh i would increase the amount of gameplay to...oh a total of 576 hours(how many days?)and tons of weapons that suck till you change classes/upgrade them. i would also make an upgrade feature!and you never know...sat. & mern. might comeback as an illusion in someones mind.

my uncles a jerk! he works at nintendo (america) and won't say anything about it.
time to kick butt

Items that change for classes would be pretty cool. Like if the ninja blade was equipped by a ninja, it would gain increased damage and give some stat boosts. I would also like to see more variety in the weapons. Towards the end of gs1, there started to be weapons that did more than just an unleash, like the gaia blade, which added to earth power. The weapons in the second one almost never had any bonuses like that, and the unleashes were pretty similar for the most part, just an elemental damage attack that either has a chance to lower enemy stats, or has a chance to cause a status ailment. Some of the unleashes were pretty cool though. How about weapons that grant battle psynergies, like early in the game you might find a sword that, when equipped, gives the user the flare psynergy regardless of class. Another cool thing would be weapons that can hit multiple enemies with one attack.
as if this post weren't long enough, I just thought of something. There could be a new djinn command, such as 'djinni bind,' which would "bind" the djinni to your weapon, giving different bonuses depending on which djinni is used. It would set the djinni so it wasnt on set, but still couldnt be summoned, and after a set number of turns, it would wear off and go into either set or recovery. There are a lot of possibilities for this, such as one djinni would change the weapon damage to earth(like the gaia blade had), one would increase damage slightly and give you perfect accuracy with your attacks, one would do a drain hp effect, etc.

...perhaps - April 13, 2005 09:48 PM (GMT)
That would be interesting, attaching djinn to weapons. One thing, though, that I'm not sure about is that I, at least, would expect the effects to be based off the djinni's power, but that wouldn't work well for some of them, like Flash, Reflux, Haze, Granite, Shade, and several others that do something positive for you. I guess maybe only some djinn could do it. Maybe it would depend on their element types instead of their specific name, although that seems too general. It could also not depend on anything predefined though, of course. I feel like it would be better with connections to the already existing stuff about the djinn though.

Don't make irrelevant, senseless posts. That was basically spam, as far as I'm concerned. And I know you were trying to be funny, but I really don't think it was remotely amusing.

Brendor The Ogre Cleaver - April 15, 2005 11:28 PM (GMT)
sorry...anyway back to the topic.

there has got to be more to add than that.

i would also have the storyline visit anemos.alex would be there and try someting.

other than that i have nothing to add.

windseer1986 - April 16, 2005 07:52 PM (GMT)
I would definitely want the psynergy to be different, most of the psynergy in the first 2 is just for attacking. Also, the status ailments rarely work on bosses, and you arent usually going to waste turns and pp using sleep or something like that on random enemies. I would keep the gia, pyroclasm, plasma, and supernova type psynergies, but one thing I think was not fully developed was the potential of mercury as attack psynergy. Basically, the mercury attack psynergy was:
some ice hits the enemy.
some ice forms on the enemy, then breaks and hits them
some bubbles hit the enemy
I was hoping for psynergy with huge geyser, or swirling storms of ice shards tearing through the enemies, but it seems like all they added in TLA was cool, which is almost the same as frost/tundra/glacier
Also, instead of some classes having exact copies of moves like nova(carpet bomb)/gaia(avalanche?!!? its rocks flying up from underground!) etc, there would be different animations for the attacks.

Sparkle - April 18, 2005 04:54 AM (GMT)
I'll add more personalities to the characters.....to me, the only ones who stands out the most are Garet and Alex. Mia, Jenna and Sheba all seems pretty much the same....... XP

windseer1986 - April 18, 2005 05:35 PM (GMT)
yeah, I thought that the characters were better developed in gs than in gs2. I also thought the towns were much better, because you would actually spend some time getting to know the history and personality of the town. In gs2, a lot of the towns seem the same, you don't learn much about most of them, and some of them dont even really have anythign on them. Kalt island, for example, was idiotic. it has one small house with 2 old people in it, and they are like"kalt island once traded with prox etc"...as if it were a town! that earned my WTF of the day.

...perhaps - April 19, 2005 09:36 PM (GMT)
I know what you mean about the psynergy a little back. I think some of it was so much the same that you could even use it for the same stuff out of battle. Like gale, I think, a ninja skill, I think, was useful for the same stuff as whirlwind. I also would make it so that it was possible to have any out of battle useable psynergy on somebody regardless of their djinn. It was really dumb to have to fiddle with your djinn whenever you wanted whirlwind or growth if you didn't have a person with it in your standard setup. Also true, with the stati and stuff on bosses. That's actually a recurring problem I've noticed in video games. I think the problem is that the bosses would be too easy if you could get those to work. I guess they could probably just give them a lot more life, though, and it wouldn't be like that, and the skills would be useful. They probably should just get rid of condemn(auto kill attack), though because it's not worth it on little enemies, and it would be stupid if you could use it on bosses.

windseer1986 - April 19, 2005 11:59 PM (GMT)
I would like to see a game where the status abilities are useful, and maybe have some different ones besides the ever-so-original poison, sleep, paralyze, magicseal crap.
If I had my way in this game, every psynergy would look like spark plasma, even cure, revive, etc, would still show the graphics for spark plasma, except for if you actually used spark plasma, in which case it would show kraden doing a dance.

But seriously, they could have made much more variant psynergies and made good use of status changes by doing one thing: making some psynergy that has a chance to inflict status ailments on enemies. That way, when you run into a group of enemies, and you use psynergy to take them out, any survivors might be poisoned/stunned etc. I think there are a couple of moves like this, but they all either on wierd classes, or only hit one enemy at a time.

crazydrummer_234 - June 11, 2005 08:23 PM (GMT)
I wuld make the fighting styles a little different. Like in FF Tactics Where they actually move around. Also actually show wut armor theyre wearing and specific details for each item they hold or wear.

Solmaster - June 21, 2005 03:45 AM (GMT)
It needs to have more depth, light and dark, new classes, a larger selection of adepts, or even a sort of game where you choose your path along the goldensun world as you rid the world of the combined revenge efforts of Stauros, Mernardi, Alex, Karst, and Agatio! Whew... '-_-

...perhaps - June 21, 2005 04:36 PM (GMT)
Saturos, Menardi, Karst, and Agatio, are DEAD. They would not come back to life. Alex is almost all-powerful, and I just can't imagine him really doing stuff in the name of revenge. He'd just be trying to conquer the world or some such thing. There shouldn't be too many characters, or it would be annoying, and obviously they wouldn't add new elements, because it just wouldn't make any sense with the first two.

Actually my most favorite move is a mercury attack. It can, however, only be obtained by playing around with djinni. I forgot the name of the move though >.<
At first, a huge geyser appears, lifting one enemy into the air. The attacker then jumps at the geyser, and cuts straight through it (and the enemy), causing the enemy to fly back. This attack, however, only causes moderate damage and is quite useless.

The one thing that I would change would be that, instead of auto defending once an enemy has been defeated, to just continue with whatever attack was planned from the start, onto the closest enemy. I would also make the music in .mp3 format instead of midi :D

windseer1986 - June 21, 2005 11:30 PM (GMT)
Its called plume edge, I believe.

I wouldnt want to make the battle system like a tactics game, I would rather have the same style battles only with more of an active system, to add challenge and excitement.

Mathias - June 26, 2005 02:14 AM (GMT)
i completely skipped over the first page of this topic, but im assuming that you are talking about changes you would make to golden sun
the first change i would make is set it up to where you can give your characters longer names, so that i could name isaac matthew or mathias instead of just matt, and i HATE BEING CALLED MATT WITH THE FIR OF A 1000 SUNS ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 <--- :}

other than that, i cant think of any other big changes id make, except maybe make it to where you could find more GS1 djinns on GS2

It should be more like matt the fur covered warior of golden sun.

Mathias - June 27, 2005 07:03 AM (GMT)
hmmm, i like the fur covered warior part, especially since warior is missing an r, but at least i must be called Matt-tias

thats not even funny man im stupid

...perhaps - June 27, 2005 02:44 PM (GMT)
I guess that'd be kinda nice, being able to have longer names. I wanted to start a new game and name Felix Dullahan and give him the Tomegathericon (Whoa, that can be broken into Tome Gather Icon. It does give you undead magic... Wait, darn it! Tomb is spelled with a b. Tome is still a word... But it doesn't quite work as well.) The point being that Felix would have a lot of Dullahan moves, especially once I could make him summon Charon, and be called Dullahan. He wouldn't get True Collide though...:(
Yes, this was actually a dumb idea, but I wanted to do it.

the_isaac - June 27, 2005 11:34 PM (GMT)
You could, if you had an action replay! :} I have one!! :} :} It's broken!!!

I... despise those things. They're cheaters' tools. I don't like cheating. In fact, my definition of cheating encompasses many things that other people's do not. Like I think that Nintendo Power might even be a tool for some of what I consider cheating, although I don't really know for sure what information is in it. A better example though is that to me, requesting help from Rocian friends here at The Nest is cheating. I am willing to abet others in this particular form of cheating, but it's against my personal morals.

the_isaac - June 28, 2005 12:01 PM (GMT)
I don't consider it cheating if you've already beaten the game. Or like, in the pokémon games, where you have to catch all the legendaries and stuff, and you need tickets and stuff. I just cheat to get the tickets, because there's no way to get them in sweden.

...perhaps - June 28, 2005 03:26 PM (GMT)
Well yeah, if you're not using it to complete the game for the first time with extra ease, it's mostly fine. I still would rather not have it, though. As far as the tickets stuff... I have no idea. I think I wish I'd never heard of it... It sounds potentially really stupid...

windseer1986 - June 30, 2005 05:26 PM (GMT)
Trust me, Nintendo Power does not have any useful information in it. They give you maps and tips and tricks for the easiest parts of the games, usually the parts where the game tells you what to do, or you would have to be a complete idiot not to be able to easily figure it out.
