My inlaws bought me the stock I needed for my SKS build project and gave it to me this morning for my birthday. When I first saw it on Ebay (I found it and sent them the link when they asked what I wanted), I planned to strip off the bubba paint job and restore it to original. Once I got it and put my receiver in it, though, I determined that it looked MUCH better than I thought it would and that I like the tigerstripe look. At least for the time being, I'm going to leave it like this.
It's not that I don't appreciate a new thread for every gun part - I do - but good gravy, if you're going to make a new thread then you should document properly. You already dropped the receiver in the stock, so why isn't that in the picture? You said it looks ugly as hell bare (which I can agree with you there), but it looks OK assembled. Alright, I guess I'll just use my imagination. (cue up Reading Rainbow theme)
Also, you are going to have the most redneck looking SKS... which, admittedly, is what those rifles are for... but again, good gravy! I say, go balls out and make the most ridiculous thing you possibly can. Needs moar bayonet + bipod + scope action.

Camera's dead...that's why I snagged the Ebay picture. ;)
As for the redneck thing...well...yeah. It wouldn't be nearly as bad if the ATF didn't hamstring builders with that whole 922 bullshit. If it weren't for that, I could build one pretty much stock with no problems, using a couple of good internal parts that are US-made. But because of the retarded laws, if I change anything from stock, I have two options: play the whole 10-and-under game (and spend A LOT of money to do it...more than it's worth), or cut off the bayonet lug and the grenade launcher. So, when it's all said and done, it's just going to be a stock SKS (with a funny-lookin' stock) with no bayonet lug or launcher.
Of course the laws are stupid. If only complaining about it would change things...
Bayonnet lugs: More dangerous than hose clamps.

Afterall...bayonet lugs can be used to attach silencers. (fp)
Not to mention all those inner-city drive by bayonetings.
