Title: Moving To Virginia
wispaintstyle - November 22, 2009 05:31 AM (GMT)
Wisconsin Sucks. I haven't worked since april. I had a 4 hour temp job, which quickly went through my gas tank driving back and forth to a stupid staffing agency 40 miles away. A friend who's stationed at Oceana has offered to take me in, meals and beer included. He's got a nice little house right off of lynnhaven. I'm hopeful for things there, more than I can say for the frozen tundra.
Anyway, his wife told me that I have to register any firearm I bring with me. How much paperwork is it and how much will it cost me per gun? I've got 2 handguns and 3 long guns. I can leave stuff with my family, but I'm hoping I can atleast take the baby eagle, I kind of feel naked without it my the bed.
Any locals know anywhere I should apply for work at? I'm planning apply at everything around lynnhaven mall first, the going over to green run. If I'm not getting phone calls by then, I'll just keep going a little further in each direction. Ideally I want to work in walk/bike distance from his house.

The only "registration" of firearms I've heard of with regards to VA law is for machine guns and, of course, when someone buys a pistol from a dealer.
Otherwise you're good to go.

I applaud you for doing what it takes to find a job in this economy and not do as some others may and demand the government fix the problem.

Welcome to the area, and yes you need not reg any firearms unless its burst or automatic.
as much as this place sucks, our gun laws arnt that bad

i disagree and 3 pitchers of beer i drank last night in wisconsin for less then 10 dollars agrees with me.
Silk - November 22, 2009 10:01 PM (GMT)
What kind of beer was it?
Oh, and I call shens on you drinking 3 pitchers yourself, unless it was an all-day event.

grainbelt premium
mikeyB was there, and it wasn't even 3 pitchers of beer. it was 2 pitchers of beer, and one of long island, all be it, a bit of a weak long island. thus i just rounded to 3 pitchers of beer.

Oceana Naval base? The military usually makes you register all guns if you stay "on post" in military housing.
Slinky - November 23, 2009 02:24 AM (GMT)
Oceana is a part of Va Beach not just the base
TrojanMan - November 23, 2009 03:02 PM (GMT)
See, I saw Oceana and thought you meant
these enviro-douchenozzles. (probably shouldn't click that link)
As has been said, VA doesn't care about your guns. That type of law pretty much only applies to Jersey, Mass, New York and other places where they don't like freedom. And before you say anything about MD, let me say this: We're a strange mix of liberal and sane with still enough freedom on some important issues. Retarded magazine capacity law and other ridiculous regulations notwithstanding, we're still doing pretty well. If we'd just get the shall issue thing down, I'd be 100% happy. So I thumb my nose at you, Jersey. Congratulations on taking some beautiful prime real estate and making it suck in spite of itself.
Most people at this point would also make fun of CA but you know what? I don't need to. CA is part of a magical land that I often visit but mostly ignore. Like Canada, eh? I know it exists, but I'm pretty ambivalent about it. When I hear they bankrupt themselves because they keep giving free sh*t to illegals, my reaction is more rolleyes than facepalm, you know? And besides, when it comes to firearms, CA is responsible for creating some of the most entertaining-looking modifications out there.
El-Oh-Elz So at least there's humor in it.
Wis, you're still about 2-3 hours away from me but if you're up North, let me know. One good thing about being on the East Coast, you're within one-day driving distance of EMR, Pandemonium and all the fun that is ladled out in barrels there. Be sure to make it up sometime.

W...T...F...?
I've seen the ones with the fixed 10-round magazines that you have to open the upper receiver to load from the inside...but that is just ridiculous.
TrojanMan - November 23, 2009 03:12 PM (GMT)
But it's not a dangerous, baby-killing pistol grip.
The break-action conversions have pretty much been supplanted by the "bullet button" as far as CA rifles go, I believe. Basically, requiring a tool (bullet counts as a tool) for removal of the mag is OK. So you make the mag release small enough that a finger can't push it but a bullet tip can.
Makes you feel a little better about chopping up your SKS at least, eh?

Murf the Elder - November 25, 2009 03:36 PM (GMT)
Speaking of Calil-legal mods:
Anyone ever seen the Romanian PAR-1 that Century was importing 6 or 7 years ago for sale in CA? I'd completely forgotten about them 'til this thread took it's nutty little twist.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen...you are, in fact, seeing a pump-action AK-47.
