Title: This Is Crap

Okay, so don't make too much fun of me for getting cans, 'cause I didn't know any better.

But is canned Guiness supposed to be drunk straight from the can, or out of a glass? 'Cause out of a glass, this stuff tastes like slightly-flavored water.

Out of the glass.

All Guinness Draught tastes like water with a slight hint of roasted malt and hops thrown in. Off a nitro-tap it is much creamier, but still as flavorless.

Be a man and grab the real Irish Dry Stout: Guinness Extra Stout.

And there you have it, folks.

IF you are going for real irish stout, try Beamish. It comes in a can, but pour it in a glass. Much better than Guiness.

guinness is a light beer

But pretty much the best light beer you can get in the average drinking establishment.

Honestly, I prefer Murphy's to Beamish (which, in turn, is better than Guiness), but that's a matter of taste at that point. Murphy's seems to be more roasty and Beamish is more on the creamy side, IMHO.

It's a shame most craft brewers in the US don't even try for the style. Victory makes a great example in their Donnybrook but I don't think it travels very well. First time I had it was on tap at a reputable place in VA and it was soured. Horrible and absolutely undrinkable. To their credit, they pulled the keg and gave me a different beer, so I'll say no more.

Had the beer later at the brewery and it just blew me away. Perfect execution of the style (though, it is Victory, so I guess I should expect that). I haven't seen it very far out and that makes me think they've noticed the same problems I did. I say, good for them for keeping the beer honest. I don't drink a lot of DIS anyhow so it's not a huge deal. And when I can just get Storm King instead? Yeeeeeah, I'll take that, thanks.

Why would they make a light beer!? WHY!?

:P
