Title: Join The Revolution

Hollywood - November 16, 2009 01:23 AM (GMT)
Rumor has it that 68caliber.com is going strictly Old School looking for Old Schoolers and new Old school guys to support the revolution

Chemical X - November 16, 2009 04:38 AM (GMT)
Im already a part of an existing movement, The SCP. Playing pump and passing it along to others.

Hollywood - November 16, 2009 01:19 PM (GMT)
well than I guess I am a part of 2 movements but we should get SCP noticed on 68caliber.com the more people we can reach out to the better we are

turbo chicken - November 16, 2009 06:27 PM (GMT)
depends on what this "revolution" is ... it is not clearly stated therefore i cannot make an informed decision to join it or not. :P

Gazoo - November 16, 2009 06:31 PM (GMT)
all I play is pump. don't even own a semi. all my gear is sc too....

turbo chicken - November 16, 2009 07:00 PM (GMT)
^ i own a semi ... it's a stingray set up like i used to want mine... i honestly don't think it was ever used... the thing is immaculate ... my only wall hanger is a stingray lol :D

there is an article posted on .68 caliber ... i guess that's what Hollywood was referring... i look forward to reading the rest of the articles.

Exactly! - While I'm glad John and Steve and Tom and the rest are putting their collective shoulders to the wheel. I believe they need to remember that it was this site, PPiG, MCB and the like that has kept pump alive.

It was also manufacturer's like Glenn at Palmers, Mike at CCI, Budd at WGP,Earron at Carter and AM that kept making pump markers even if in small quantities for the loyal players to use

Kudos guys for the effort, but don't think it's a new idea. I can think of dozens of other people who deserve the honor for holding the line while the industry chased power ranger dreams

Hollywood - November 18, 2009 12:18 AM (GMT)
you guys are right but why not go public and let the paintball world know these things Crash tell that at 68 caliber I agree with you 100%

CrashSTP - November 18, 2009 01:07 AM (GMT)
I will, just will think it out better and post it more concisely. I don't want to come off irritated or contrite. I spent alot of effort, influence, money and political leverage over the past yrs within the industry to try to keep pump play from completely dying. I am truely glad there are people picking up the torch to continue on

Siress - November 18, 2009 01:16 AM (GMT)
68caliber is a well known site for using the little guy as a stepping stool. I'm not the type to harbor ill will, but I keep a note of which places to avoid...and that's one of them. I'm sure someone remembers exactly why I would have made such a mental note...

CrashSTP, well said, buddy...well said.

Hollywood - November 18, 2009 01:33 AM (GMT)
Crash your a man that definitely has my respect the people you mention are all old friends of mine as well and I would like to see them reap the benefits of their efforts for the years they have invested in the old school game .--Siress you are the voice of reason and definitely the Devils Advocate but 68 caliber has decided to risk everything on this effort I think they deserve a chance to redeem themselves . I am very close to the person responsible for that site and trust his heart is in the right place this is not the first fight Ive fought with him !

CrashSTP - November 18, 2009 01:52 AM (GMT)
We need to sit down and have a drink sometime Hollywood - first eastcoast event?

cockerpunk - November 18, 2009 04:06 PM (GMT)
are you looking for article writers or forum members or what?

im confused as to what "old school revolution" really means.

im confused as to what "old school revolution" really means.

its when a bunch of old fart old school players like me stand up and tell you beardless youths to sit down and shut up

;)

I dunno - I wonder what it means also. I don't find it revolutionary to play paintball the same way I have been for over 2 decades now

turbo chicken - November 18, 2009 05:38 PM (GMT)
-the revolution is the push to get things like they used to be... and on the cheap where more people can afford to actually play and use their equipment
-that it cost less to play pump
-that the pace of a woods ball game is different, it's played different, and in general less intimidating

sure we've all been preaching this for a long time...

seems like hollywood's approach is to use his connections get industry leaders to see that "pump is good" and hopefully by getting them to play a game or two may get others to follow suit...

at least that's the conclusion i have come up with based on all the info he's given us...

vonort - November 18, 2009 05:46 PM (GMT)
I'll pass. Really don't feel like paying over $200 for a case of paint again.

turbo chicken - November 18, 2009 05:59 PM (GMT)
or the fact that there are some dead links on the 68caliber site that say "Pump Woodsball League" ... is this league the revolution??

vonort - November 18, 2009 06:17 PM (GMT)
There are a lot of points on 68.com that really don't add up. They tout how much it cost to put up an airball field. And say its cheaper to play in the woods. Obviously they have not priced out land. It's not cheap to buy or least a couple hundred acres of land. And if you want to go back to the "Old School" way of play thats what you need. Tourney fields were anywhere from 20 to 60 acres each. If not bigger. The way that was written sounded like a bunch of rabble rousing. Yeah I liked the old ways of play, but I also enjoy the game the way it is today. If i want a large woods game I go to a scenario.

And they forgot the punch and pie. Everybody knows more people will join if there is punch and pie.

Hard8Mike - November 18, 2009 06:43 PM (GMT)
I don't really care for the angle that the 68cal articles have been taking. I feel like I should be part of their targeted market, but each article has been a turn off for me. While many of the arguments are valid, they're stated in an insulting way. Some of their supporting evidence is fairly weak as well.

Pump is what the title says they're promoting, but the articles have primarily been about playing tournament style ball in the woods. Pump is already a small piece of the paintball pie. If you pull off all of the pump players that play speedball, you'd be left with little more than the crust of that tiny slice. Sure, there are pump players that don't play on airball fields, but those guys are highly unlikely to play in any tournament (woodsball or airball).

Calling out tournament level semi players as playing a version of paintball that requires little mental skill and relies highly on luck just seems silly. The top teams don't end up on top on a regular basis because they're the luckiest guys around. Guys like Derrick O. don't win 1x1's (where the article states that luck has the greatest effect) because they're lucky (despite what he says).

I've been supporting pump for about as long as I've been playing. As a rec player ('91), tournament player, event promoter, and as someone who's been in the industry for over 13 years. Definitely not as long as the real old school people, but I feel like I've done my part. If I find it difficult to get on the 68cal bandwagon, I imagine it'd be much worse for others.

Gazoo - November 18, 2009 06:44 PM (GMT)
I like pie........

I like paintball.
And I shall continue to play in my own inimical style. I've seen revolutions in this sport before and they made little difference to how much fun I have.
I prefer using a pump, stockclass above all. Should the industry choose to emulate me (and so many of my brothers & sisters here) then I say "More Power to Them!"

the underdog - November 18, 2009 11:19 PM (GMT)
i like my blimps in the middle of the field... :(

and part of the Pump Revolution-not neccesarily out to promote oldschool ways, but for people to just play with pumps and have a good time, whether that be at an airball field or in the middle of the woods.

Interesting movement for sure though.

JB - November 19, 2009 12:52 AM (GMT)
I like the revolution but I like balloons especially pretty colored ones!

JB.

sigmund - November 19, 2009 12:53 AM (GMT)
The revolution started for me 5 years ago when I joined this site. Maybe you can buy some Pump Revolution T-shirts off of the Third Eye Vision guys. You know the ones they made Um...... quite a while ago!

turbo chicken - November 19, 2009 04:54 AM (GMT)
u guys r harsh lol

Siress - November 19, 2009 05:20 AM (GMT)
Am I the only one that reads "oldschool revolution" and imagines this?

:P

wait...if there is a huge movement to the SCP format......no! NO! I enjoy watching them tediously clean their hoppers and feed necks with q-tips and pipe cleaners just so that they'll look good before being hit again! (plus, how many of you have put one through a guys speed feed on a halo!? hehehe.

cockerpunk - November 19, 2009 08:09 AM (GMT)
im tired of paintball's factioning.

seriously, i dont care what gun your using, i dont care what gun im using, i dont care if its speedball, woodsball, urban, hyperball, or a cornfield - i play paintball.

i want to be a part of the paintball revolution. not the pump revolution, not the old school revolution, not the 50 cal revolution, not the firepower revolution, none of it.

i play paintball. in any form, with any technology, on any field - ill play it, and enjoy it.

i think it is serious disservice to paintball to promote one form of paintball as better then any other. i blame that mentality for much that is wrong with paintball today. variety is the spice of life - why argue for a narrowing of the sport? oh yeah, to get the rage flowing - like glenn beck or some other dip s***.

vonort - November 19, 2009 03:40 PM (GMT)
Damn never thought I would say this.. But I agree with CP

altough i play with a pump, love pump, and promote pump. i completely agree.

just play damn paintball!!!

CP, you'd better be nice to GB or he's gonna cry.

I dunno, I get all my rage out on FPS video games.
I feel zero need to be a hater when it comes to paintball.

Bored383 - November 19, 2009 10:58 PM (GMT)
my attitude is like the bastard love child of CP and T-man

I agree with the basic sentiment that CP is expressing - I go to play paintball, dun matter where or with what . . . that is my call. I am just laid back like T-man about it.

The point is to go and have fun. In the end it doesn't matter a bit to me what is being used or on what sort of field, so long as its challenging, fun, and full of the sportsmanship I like to see. I am lucky that here in Sandy Eggo there is a nice pump group that is all those things

Hollywood - November 26, 2009 12:01 AM (GMT)
well this discussion is going well some of you are right on target this revolution is not about how or where you play its about having a choice and having options. its about taking some of the good from the Old School Game and bringing it back to the forefront of Paintball. its not about the woods or the Arena its about the direction this game is going faster rates of fire, more paint, smaller fields, smaller paintballs, new equipment $1200.00 markers,I can go on and on when are we going to tell the industry STOP! slow down what about us?we support you with our dollars and you tell us where to play and when, what equipment to use ,what level we can play at.the industry moves us like puppets and we just lay down and let it happen time and time again.
The sport of paintball-- has become a good old boys club. In the Old School days anyone could become a pro now you have to belong to a fully sponsored team to even have a chance to be a pro you have to pay thousands of dollars climbing some ladder of success just for the chance and they scoop up your talent with dreams of TV and your face in a ad for some $175.00 hopper.when they are done with us what do we do ?we go back to the Old School Game like some race horse out to pasture .Why because we love this game! thats how we got here in the first place ! I myself enjoy playing the Game but I love the tourney scene, the Competition, the friends I made at events, the travel with my buddies the stories I carried for the last 22 years. that is paintball. some of you know what I am talking about the rest of you may someday get to experience this for yourselves. what is happening at 68 caliber is an oppertunity for you to feel this feeling and realize what the sport of paintball is.
The Game of paintball--for most we played the game for the first time just to check it out .after the first game we were hooked we grabbed a paintball mag and started shopping you open the magazine and what do you see Power Rangers shooting electro guns you go out spend $700.00-$1000.00 to
buy what the industry wants you to buy only to find out you cant keep the damn thing going you need a tech crew and engineer just to play Then you show up at a field to get spanked anyway because you just arent a good enough player yet.you see the guys playing with the Old school pumps or semis and find out there are other ways of playing so you put away the marker that is now worth $250.00 and switch to pump or Mech. Semi and have some affordable fun.why don't all the Mags. and websites tell you about this style of play ? because the advertisers dictate what product you promote! Why?because players dont get together and support the game they enjoy publicly we do it underground on blogs and chat rooms. guys its time to get together come out of the closet and tell the industry what we want!!!
This revolution is important for two reasons ! we need to get together and let it be known that we exist and that there is a great number of players that would like to see this game continue to grow and flourish not just in the Arena with Electro markers but at the level of play that made this game. allowing new players to experience a game that is a lot more fun at an entrance level that is more affordable and less painful
2nd we need to develop a league and tournament series as a option to allow players who want to compete without the exorbanent cost of the current tourney scene with the industry dictating how you play.I believe this series can bring the game back to its roots give more players and teams the opportunity to experience competition paintball and develop their skills and learn how much fun this thing can really be.
In closing I just want to say that whether you play woodsball or Arenaball, shoot Semi or Pump wear Camo or Colored Jerseys its all about having a good time and the the way we feel every time we step onto the field, the friends we make ,the stories we aquire, the paintball expierience!!! we have a choice now go to 68caliber and be part of this!! support this effort, what do you really have to lose?

Hollywood - November 26, 2009 12:03 AM (GMT)
SORRY BOUT THAT just had to speak my mind again

vonort - November 26, 2009 03:46 AM (GMT)
I think I'll sit this one out. Like I said before revolutions really aren't my cup of tea. Usally the only thing that comes from them is more separation in the sport. And personally I'll state it again, I really don't want to go back to $200 cases of paint. And SI pumps that cost around $400. I kind of like the game the way it is. I can go play arena, I can play in the woods. Hell if enough people are in I'll play in a parking lot. Never really been a follower, kind of like to do my own thing.

PS. Still say you should of had punch and pie, more people show up for punch and pie.. "Viva La Revolution"
