What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
THE-SHOOTIST - October 21, 2009 09:17 PM (GMT)
I have a question:
What did you guys do with the original set of Commandos that Bud built for you?
Do you know any former teammates who have one left?
Would they be willing to part with it?
I traded a Sterling to one of you guys many, many years ago for an original Commando, which I later foolishly traded for a Mag.
My heart still longs for this piece.
This is the player formerly known as Fred Narley from the New England Grim Reapers.
If you know where I can locate one of these Commandos, I'd be much obliged.

and i ... well have been a recball superstar for my paintball career...
but i played my first tourney this year
it's great fun...
even with a pump...
i've been playing for 13years :) and am just now meeting the local oldschool tourney guys in my area...
What was your favorite paintball gun setup evear thru your whole career?
Playing on a national level ... did it get harder to do as technology progressed? or did it just require a different skill set?
Hollywood - October 22, 2009 02:50 PM (GMT)
Joe you are 1/2 right but close enough you know your Old School paintball
turbo chicken - October 22, 2009 03:28 PM (GMT)

Hollywood - October 22, 2009 03:37 PM (GMT)
Turbo Chicken, congrats on your first tourney experience I hope it was a good one .What area and what old school guys? Im a true Old School player and never liked the whole airball thing but I did play NPPL and PSP tournies and never really liked it. to answer your question as the game progressed ? I saw so many changes in my career that this question requires a long answer I started playing 15 man woodsball in the 80's where games were 1 hour long and fields were so large you shot 100 balls if you were lucky enough to even see your opponent .then the fields got smaller the games got shorter and things like stick feeders ,quick changes for co2 and barrel extensions made from pvc were the crap . then the constant air and hoppers made from plastic oil cans hit the circuit ,nelson based guns began to appear and every team was doing some custom crap to get the edge so equipment made the difference not the player so started the industrial revolution in paintball and the rest was history. In my tourney experience in the old school days I found that In woodsball it was a team effort you had to field 10-15 top players for every event , every player needed skills that have been long forgotten in the pro circuit and good communication between players won tournaments. then came airball shoot lots of paint let it fly and pray you hit someone on the break, learn to wipe ,play through hits ,wear uniforms to hide hits, the cheating got insane there was honor in Old school if you cheated (or got caught)you better not show your face again!Technology didnt change anything skill is skill but the new game has done nothing but take the game from the players and let the industry run the show and win at all costs became the battle cry.My favorite combo is still the Old School Termite custom pump with a bottomline constant air set up a "howdy" bolt and hammer and a old school viewloader 1000 I used it in over 100 5,10,15 man tournies all over the world in the 80,s and early 90,s. enjoy your tourney life and good luck see you in YOUR flagstation -----Kevin

and beyond knowing oldschool equipment, and watching some oldschool video's online... is hard to grasp unless you were there or you know someone and can relate.
So for players like me im at the mercy of learning the "Who done whats?" from people like yourself...
that being said ... im only familiar with the more famous people of oldschool such as dave youngblood, fred schultz etc.... it's the old school teams and the players within that it starts to just get silly ... sure i know and have heard the names... but the history behind the teams and even further into the players... that's just too much data for me to crunch ...
I wonder if we could get some kind of oldshcool repository of info started... if we document these peices before the original people completely dissapear... there may be a chance for future players to get the info long after were gone.
oh and the players ... Texas Dallas area ... names... i know lots of first names... most noteable so far seems to be BigDaddyCool ... man now i have to remember the teams ... B.C.I.T. ... man now i has to go ask some questions... see what you did... i just met these guys in the past couple months... and i can't remember all the crap they told me lol...
Hollywood - October 22, 2009 05:04 PM (GMT)
Turbo its nice to know you know the names of my very close friends Fred andYoungblood (who by the way was a Master Blaster)Know any Texas Storm guys? if you do say hello for me

We met once, Hollywood. Durty Dan introduced some of us CanCon guys to you at one of the first Skyball events. you were wearing tails with camo pants.
the underdog - October 22, 2009 07:41 PM (GMT)
Hollywood-I'm out of Nashville TN, did you ever get to go any of the Lively events, what were your thoughts on them.
3EV was formed at a field that was owned by one of the Sabrewolves, does that name ring a bell? Mr. Adcock owned the field known as Nashville Paintball Sports when we played at it

Hi guys- Shootist- you are old school you know the answers ! nice try but I wanna let this run for a while lol---- Jeffy cancon if you were with Durty Dan at skyball we have met- no not me in tails that was Chris "Shark Attack "Cole from Maryland -on the old school test you did well with the NPPL question but not even close on the rest .nice to hear from you if you see Dan say Hello for me--Underdog-- I was in Nashville for every Lively event played both 5 and 10 man and represented my store in the tradeshows . did not have a good tourny experience I felt the judging was inadequate to say the least. but it was a tourny for major money at the time ,The Blasters had to be there to defend our title against the west coast teams and it was a great place to hook up with all the big boys . I cant say I remember the Sabrewolves
Siress - October 22, 2009 11:31 PM (GMT)
I don't know how to measure this "love" for the sport, but I'm definitely passionate about it. However, the only thing I want to remember about the distant past are the large mistakes that could likely be made again. If that means I'm not a "Real Paintball Player " then so be it... I still have a room full of paintball gear, a hard drive packed with designs, thousands of hours on the field and this insatiable urge to do a run through with my stock class gun every time I play speedball. Oh, and I've been talking about the sport with the world for all these years...where have you been, buddy? :P
crazyorigin - October 23, 2009 02:40 AM (GMT)
Do you know this guy?
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk192/c...in/DSC01368.jpgWhere are you from Holywood? What field do you frequent most?
Hollywood - October 23, 2009 03:55 AM (GMT)
Siress- I admire your passion for the game .but more than that I am impressed with the fact that you reference the past mistakes, what you do not realize is history is repeating itself already ! The tourny promoters and the industry are controlling the sport of paintball each one with their own agenda -world domination this is the same movie different actors as 1990-1991 and why the NPPL was formed by the teams(another sell out failure run by the industry) I know I was there! as to where I have been I retired in 98 in disgust at what had happened to the sport (not the game)plus a bout with cancer caused the loss of most of my vision for 4 1/2 years, 2 ops later my vision is improving and I am playing again. You have been talking about paintball how long? I have socks I wore in pro tournaments older than you "Buddy" lol
