Title: So Reball Pretty Much Blows

Murf the Elder - September 14, 2009 06:58 PM (GMT)
My alma mater finally started a paintball club (go figure, 2 years after I graduate). They got school sponsorship, bought a bunch of rental gear, some airball bunkers...the works. Problem is, since they play on the indoor soccer field in the gym, they can only use Reballs.
Misterbones25, who's still a student up there, took me as a guest Saturday night. The field setup was pretty good, though my big arse can't get good cover behind even the big cans that come in those Extreme Rage sets. Then add in the 220 fps velocity limit, the guys who won't come off the field no matter how many times you hit them* ('cause you can't prove you did), and the 5 on 5 games on a field that should be 3 on 3 tops, and it was just a rough night.
I think I did get some of the first timers interested in joining us for some real paintball at a local field next month. We'll see how many of them actually show up, though.
There were also 4 Mexican guys who I had to tell every single game to put their masks back on. I finally told the club president that I don't mind coming and helping him run things, but I want authority to kick people out who can't follow the safety rules.
He wouldn't agree to that.
I won't be back. I'll stick to shooting real paintballs at real paintball players on real paintball fields.

[/Rant]

*One game I was reffing, and shot one of them square in the ribs just to test my theory and see if he came off the field. He didn't.

I agree. The ones that get me are the guys that are so used to being hit they don't even flinch. Makes it a real b!t@h to call them out. Not a fan of the reballs!

Murf the Elder - September 14, 2009 07:27 PM (GMT)
I just can't imagine being such a douche as to cheat in what's obviously a TRAINING exercise. The point is to get better...not fake people into thinking you're good.

yellowpumpguy - September 14, 2009 08:17 PM (GMT)
Reballs are for testing guns at home in your house. Not for playing.

MisterBones25 - September 14, 2009 08:40 PM (GMT)
it was interesting for sure. i would like to try with some of the more seasoned club members and see how it works playing 2 on 2, 3 on 3 max. i also would like to use this as a practice opportunity where we can run drills and one on ones and such. but i agree, when your playing with newer players, its a bit difficult.

the biggest problem with me was, when i got hit, if it grazed my arm or leg, i would think "that one would have bounced if it was a real paintball". but then i would catch myself and just call myself out because thats not the point of reball.

oh well, i'll be back. its a cheap paintball fix between actual paintball days.

they arn't even really good for that. they shoot way the frig different.

Siress - September 15, 2009 08:30 PM (GMT)
He said testing guns, not target practice.

they shoot fine, they just dont model paintballs at all in the gun. they shoot 20-35 FPS slow, so you can't use them to test for chrono consistency or whatever. the only thing they model alright is backpressure.

brokenzipper - September 15, 2009 09:25 PM (GMT)
I like the velcro paintballs (VBalls) They are fun.

pressure is required for paintball guns

not sure what you mean by that one.

Oh, this should be good.

Exactly.

still not grasping your point ...

are you trying to say reballs are a good paintball analogue are just posting things that most people wont understand for the sake of it.

Siress - September 16, 2009 03:13 AM (GMT)
Wheels are for rolling.

I sure hope you catch on by this point. I'm being sarcastically satirical of this thread; posting vaguely related things of obvious nature. When you little more than rephrased one of these obvious points, you forced my hand. ...and if most people don't understand that pressure builds behind an object in a barrel in order to expel it, I give people far too much credit.

Stand back, I just trolled CP. :D

So its a formula for expanding gas and working out velocity?

I may be completely wrong on that but its what I gleemed from my quick readings.

At the very least its thermodynamics.

Beefotron - September 16, 2009 03:53 AM (GMT)
wuts a thermodynamic

Chemical X - September 16, 2009 04:04 AM (GMT)
Im pretty sure I got one instead of a decoder ring in my cereal box.

that thing that actually applies to the real world, as opposed to neutrino research.

Beefotron - September 16, 2009 04:09 AM (GMT)
Quai-elastic electron neutrino calorimetry is extremely applicable! Who do you think facilitates the developement of low-baseline particle beams? ME!

...grumble...

And to stay on topic, I enjoy reballs for the purpose of seeing a thing come out of another thing and hit a third thing, but that's where the usefulness ends.

Siress - September 16, 2009 04:26 AM (GMT)
'We don't understand neutrinos fully, so they cannot prove useful? Brilliant.'
"BRILLIANT!"

I wish I were involved with neutrino transformation research. It's a very interesting topic, probably very fruitful with our understanding of all subatomic matter.

He has harsh words but gentle hands.

Anyway, have reballs gone down in price at all? My google fu comes up with price listings, but I honestly can't remember how much they were last time I looked at buying them.

turbo chicken - September 16, 2009 01:14 PM (GMT)
i have 3 reballs... not sure what happened to the other 137 i used to have...

no they aren't any more cheap....

casper - September 17, 2009 07:18 PM (GMT)
stop hurting my brain with big words!!!
My team uses them for traning in a snap cage, and we are very honest because we are doing this to get better. We chronie down to 250 and do snapshooting no posting 1 ball drills and stop to point out things that you are doing wrong(ie I see your elbow ect.)

The Inflicted - September 22, 2009 09:10 PM (GMT)
Which school is this at, anyway?

I'm in University of Tennessee (Knoxville) law right now.
I know there's a tournament paintball program here and that they practice reball on one of the indoor soccer fields so I was wondering just how common this is.

I've never been out there to check it out, though.
