Very good idea! Along with other Tippmanns I wish it/they would have a vertical feed.

JB.

Murf the Elder - September 12, 2009 01:01 PM (GMT)
I'd prefer it with a .45 block and a bottomline.

D~ - September 12, 2009 01:40 PM (GMT)
I think it would be cool for a field to invest in a few and throw some fun tournaments using these markers only.

Heck, id be down for buying one and starting a SL68II club.........hitting up scenarios and stuff as a pump club.

Any takers to join?

Im still shooting the same SL II from close to 20 years ago when I first started, I absolutely friggin love that gun and now is a perfect opportunity to snag some extra parts if they are still compatible.

The killer is that im still on every original seal from its original manufacture, For me thats unprecedented it has fed perhaps 75 to 100 cases in those years perhaps more.

But like murf I do wish it had a 45 frame or at least the phantom type .45 setup so I could install an 86 or 90 degree frame.

I am extremely excited that tippmann brough this warhorse back, its gotta be one of the best moves they have made in the recent years.

what no stockclass version.... pfffft whatevear....

DCB12 - September 13, 2009 06:45 PM (GMT)
My thoughts...

1) Frame = 4 (hated that frame... need a 45 with bottom line)
2) Feedneck= 4 (if it is the same as the old one, nothing would fit it)
3) Barrel = 3 (if it is slip fit)
4) Rear VA = 8

Peace

Feedneck has been modified to accept most current loaders.

For that price I'll pick up a phantom. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to see they're taking a step back and all, but...

cockerpunk - September 14, 2009 01:03 AM (GMT)
120-135 would have been a phenomenal price point. for 180 i think ill pass.

Sheazer - September 19, 2009 06:57 PM (GMT)
Still very cool to see the interest in the pump community by a bigger company. Pricepoint kinda stinks, but cool none the less.

lacanuck24 - September 20, 2009 06:45 AM (GMT)
very cool indeed, may need to grab one once i'm stateside again for fun

amhildreth - September 27, 2009 02:09 AM (GMT)

Never was a big fan of the SL68 II's. Pump stroke seemed very stiff on every one that I ever used. Be intrested to pick one of these up to see if anything has changed. For the price I would probably still recomend a phantom. But it is good to see another major player in the pump world.

Lets remember they are bullet proof ,easily maintained, and velocity changing is easy.I think a field can't go wrong with it as a rental, actually in talking to local field owners they haven't gotten pump rentals because of some of those issues.

I am not one for downplaying anything....but seriously? reintroducing the exact SAME gun 6 years after the end production? That's just disappointing really.

Don't get my wrong..I loved to death the SL-68 II and all its choptastic nature....I had a Ghetto-modded stock class VSC SL-68 II and I played with nothing but that thing against all breeds in all places, in tournaments mostly of semi for around 3-4 years...I loved that thing and can agree with those saying it was one hell of a work horse....but I really pushed myself hard into getting a phantom(which i hated for quite some time) to step up my game.

I understand that some people will buy this for authenticity....but does anyone remember the last pump Tippman put out?....the C3 was it?(correct me if I'm wrong)....that thing.....lol....you couldnt GIVE that thing away..... give them a thumbs up for taking a step backwards to an older gun but so many things could be changed...oh so many....let me list a few.

1> If anyone remembers trying to use the autotrigger...it turned into a nice new colorful gun by the time you were finished...and once it chopped....I know that I, even with the J&J ceramic Barrel that had a tephlon coating and "cleared itself," had a cold chance....which brings me to

2> Barrels...nowadays barrels do everything for us...quiet, light, accurate, self clearing, roll out free, good at hugging brush and bunkers. The SL-68 II only had really 2 barrel choices that I could find....stock barrel or the J&J ceramic.....and lets face it...they didn't come close to doing anything I stated above....

LOUD!(a wonderful warthog fart of a sound)
HEAVY as SIN!
Somewhat accurate
No detents....I wont bother going any farther here.

3> Lastly, pumping that thing could be smooth...or it wouldn't be....I remember once I got the hang of it...even years after playing I had to WATCH the ball roll into the chamber so I wouldn't cut it.....cleaning that thing was fun too...lol

Lots of fun....but better ways to spend that kind of a dime. I could point out so much more.....but sometimes a marker does best what it does best.....aim...shoot....and rarely fail, mechanically speaking.

LET ME REITERATE...I love the SL-68 II but to reintroduce it with the mark up just makes no sense to me....my reaction was:

HARAY (of) .....and.....wtf (fp) ....no changes? If they had changed the barrel type even to just a tippman thread, or added detents, or added some sort of vertical OPTION for air....I'd be jumping for joy....but they didnt'

*End Rant*

P.S. There has to be someone who agrees with me here.....

I solved the majority of your issues on my SL with a barrel swap. I bought an angel threaded dye Xcel barrel new from AV for 2.10 I turned it to match the SL barrel specs and its been quite a nice addition, The tighter bore doesn't allow for roll outs, no roll outs means the AT works better as the paint doesn't roll half an inch down the barrel letting a ball enter half way behind it getting chopped. The upgraded barrel also helped it with its loudness.

The grip angle has been changed and the new feed neck allows for standard hoppers now.

The SL is still a great gun but I think the price should have been lowered to reflect other choices and the economy.

RagingSilence - October 18, 2009 05:21 PM (GMT)
I guess I'm saying when you AT.....you manually chop....so tighter bore or not...I wasn't even really talking about shooting 1 ball into another ball.....yes I know "user error" but when your running to a bunker and ATing on the way....it's just a little rough to slide into the 50 somewhere or a close bunker to the enemy and stop for like a minute and a half to throw the old style tippman barrel squeegie.

That's cool though...how much did that barrel run for?

Chemical X - October 18, 2009 06:04 PM (GMT)
$2.10 off AV.

Its not firing one ball into another, thats a different topic altogether. Its loading one ball and having it roll forward slightly and a ball falls partially in behind it siting partially in the breech. The bolt comes forward and chops the ball. A different trick I learned from years of renting SLs was that I should pump the gun with the barrel slightly elevated. That helps to make sure that even with the stock barrel that only one ball sits in the breech.
