Title: Great Game!

Rebel728 - August 3, 2008 11:51 PM (GMT)
This was my first Pump Pandemonium and the 1st all pump game I have ever played. This is by far the best game of paintball I have ever played, it was especially nice to have met some of the SCPers at the game. I sadly only stayed for the 1st half of the game I wish I could have gotten to the chainsaw or something like that. EMR was incredibly nice, I can say that I definitely will be there for next years game and next time I'll stay for the whole thing.

Meph I am sorry about your goggles fogging up, you were great at generaling the Army of Darkness though.

Brimstone thanks for all the help I really appreciated it.

TrojanMan it was great playing with you, it was truly awesome. I regret that the game did not go so smoothly or else we could have really controlled the field. Next year though I will be on the field ready to go on time.

behemoth - August 4, 2008 12:42 AM (GMT)
It was our first pump pandemonium too. Just got home 'round 7:30p, we all had a good time, put some faces to names, etc etc.

See ya next year.

Rebel728 - August 4, 2008 01:18 AM (GMT)
Awesome, yeah see ya next year.

crazyorigin - August 4, 2008 03:09 AM (GMT)
Pandemonium was great this year, other that the paintball sized hail, the weather was great. The gameplay was awesome, it was great meeting more people this time, and i am already excited about next years game, hopefully it will be a weekend that is farther from the ole lady's b-day, gotta meke her feel special for her birthday ya know. Next year i want to be there for the sunday, a nubby armed man told me they are really what makes the weekend complete.:P

The crowd at Pandemonium is really first rate, i didnt hear of anyone havimng anything short of a great time, and i had a blast as well. Those cheese balls in the SCP Bunkhouse were delicious, i must have had 6 keg cups full of them, haha.

Next year we all need to make sure we are on the field at 11, cause they will start w/o us, ha, i wasnt there.

Rebel728 - August 4, 2008 03:24 AM (GMT)
I know I wasn't on at 11 and I am sorry about that. I really rushed to get all my stuff taken care of and really tried to get to the field at 11 but it was too late.

crazyorigin - August 4, 2008 04:13 AM (GMT)
like %95 percent of red team was late, thank god for the few that were tho, think of how bad it would have been if there was noone :o We will forever remember those valiant 3.........whoever they were, haha

TrojanMan - August 4, 2008 01:22 PM (GMT)
I was getting very frustrated at the begining.
We just didn't have any hard cover to actually make a push back with. We had a few stacks of tires and some foxholes and that was about it. Every insertion was 50 people charging to their doom.

It was a very good show of sportsmanship on the part of the other team that made the game as enjoyable as it was. I had a good time aside from the pacing issues.

The recommendation is that in future events, we allow for an "11-ish" start that will wait for a few more people to make it to the field if one team is as weak as it was this time. Not that there's any reason people shouldn't be able to make it on time but there's also no reason to cripple the game before it even begins.

We'll have to tweak the ruleset a little bit more but I think we're closing in on a pretty good formula.

painthappy - August 4, 2008 02:10 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the fun guys....

Please take note that the embarrassing and incriminating photos were not posted, but those involved will be getting a slightly demanding letter shortly :P

vague312 - August 4, 2008 03:58 PM (GMT)
This was my first time also
Props to SCP for a very well ran event. It was nice playing an event that the rules and scenario were paintball player proof lol. The chainsaw was also nice touch.

The beginning was a bit confusing when we walked on field but we still had a blast. At least with the enemy in our base we were able to Run to our Deaths 3 Times to there 1. Ha ha!

Kabar it was a pleasure playing alongside you guys on the right wall just before lunch. :bang:

Next year ill be sure to bring more players up for "The Friendship Dance"

Rebel728 - August 4, 2008 06:40 PM (GMT)
Awesome I am in the album with Meph! What was terrible yet pretty funny is that guy from the blue team who took the flag right from our base without being shot at.

papaintballer - August 4, 2008 09:03 PM (GMT)
behemoth met me!

accidently.. but he did. yup yup :P

as for being late, i sort of blame some of the refs for this. at other events their yelling and warning ppl that the games about to start and rushing ppl to their zones. I would have been there on time but i went from the chrono back upto the bunk to refill 3 of my tubes and then 10shot was getting ready so i stood there and gave him most of a bag of paint so he could fill his tubes. then by the time i got down there it was like 12 minutes into the game >.<

wevo - August 4, 2008 09:31 PM (GMT)
So who won the wevo/stiffi Phantom???

amhildreth - August 4, 2008 10:07 PM (GMT)
DarkWaters if I remember the bragging correctly. Him and Chem should be home later tonight from their trip back.

Rebel728 - August 4, 2008 10:13 PM (GMT)
Who was the guy inciting the suicide runs if anyone knows?

Something of the same story for us CanCons.

The safety briefing was well announced (as it should be).
We must have missed the announcement to take the field.
We're a bit jaded from the amount of times we've attended paintball events, only to see the clock tick on & on.
No excuse really.

Full marks to the field staff & organizers for getting PP5 underway punctually.
Next year, we'll be on the field for the opening whistle.

Your not the only ones. Some of the referees really need to learn how to yell.
Some were good but some needed to be much louder.

Where was the Chainsaw?

papaintballer - August 5, 2008 12:53 AM (GMT)
The road that goes from the rec center past the speedball field/fort/boneheads castle and meets with the road that follows the back tapeline of the field. At the T in the road was a building on the corner. It was laying on the corner of the building facing the weeds. Which was the only spot i didnt go around that area :(

Meph - August 5, 2008 02:06 AM (GMT)
Had another fun time at Pump Pandemonium. Despite the goggle issue. I'm not sure what it is they have never been that bad before. I could not literally see anything for about 95% of the game. So I pretty much just stayed back at the base, gathered information, and rallied people to areas of most concern. I tried taking the field a couple of times but that was worthless. Wanna know how bad it was? After the fact I knew it was Weltman, but during the last couple minutes of the game he charged at me and knifed me. Not crawled along the tall grass until next to me, no in open running at me. It wasn't until a knife goes across my kneck "Oh hey.... that's Weltman............ ****." Again congrats on a nice move.

I'm going to think about the event over the next week or so and think about what was good and needs to be kept. And what could be something that needs tweeking.

Everybody on the red team busted their asses. I was glad to have such committed and honorable teammates. Couldn't have asked for a better caliber of players. And the Blue team put up one hell of a fight. Congratulations guys. I hope everybody had a fun time this year. What would you guys like to see added to the game, if anything? Is the formula we used this year a good one and repeat?

As for my take on the start of the game. Hey guys after the morning orientation we were all told 1/2 hour until game on. That's usually a sign equal to "hurry up and get ready." I refuse to accept people saying "we didn't know the game was starting" when right after being told the rules of the game we're all told when game-on is. The idea of starting on time isn't the problem. I'm glad it did this year despite what it meant for our side, and I hope it starts on time every year after. Maybe this example will now wake people up and put some more spring in their step. If we don't act prompt and enforce a timely game then slacking players will slow the rest of us down. I don't fault the Blue team. They had a handful more players than us at the start and capitalized. I'd have done the same, just as I'd have also pulled out after a couple of failed attempts to re-take the field. It wouldn't have been fun for either side to simply pin them down. The fun part of paintball is having a challenge.

The bigger problem with that start, I think, was something else. They all have hard cover. Stacked barrels, rock-wall, the bridge, etc. All we had was a couple of fox-holes and some grass. It's not like running with semi's where even with only tall grass for cover you could still take back that base with 1 or at most 2 insertions. In a pump only game the odds are heavily stacked for those in cover. Dunno what just yet would be the best solution to this for next year to help prevent it. Maybe a staggered ring of bunkers around the base? A 2-insertion rule, where if after the 2nd insertion push the re-take is failed the other team gets pulled back to mid-field? Gonna have to get some input on this one.

That downpour sucked. I almost called the game for a second there due to the fact that that much rain + paintballs = garbage. Both in paint accuracy and paint durability. Plus the lightning didn't really help. But went over to the other base and asked them what they thought, about 1/2 wanted to call it also and 1/2 wanted to keep playing. Similar to our base. Gave it 10 minutes and it cleared up.

Next year though we gotta get more of that cider. And some of Hrothgar's golden mead.

Cargo - August 5, 2008 02:43 AM (GMT)
Good words Meph. Thanks to everyone who went. Really.

The party nature of the PP event is such that it's always hard to rally the troops in the morning. At least it can be for some.

But, frankly speaking, Sat morning is wake up, gear up, and be ready. Not everyone has the same routine, but the walk to/from SCP Bunk can blow 30 minutes in itself. So it simple needs people to understand (perhaps in a nite before rally speach) that players are expected to be ready to go at Game time. Is that's 30 minutes after a 9-9:30 safety brief?

Do the f'ng math and be ready or accept whatever happens to the Game while you are not there. That includes throwing up Before you get on the field (Good), or your buddy's blaming your for the welt factory they walked into (Bad).

I commend everyone who helped make PP5 happen. I'm sorry we didn't get a patch this year (afaik). That is completely my fault at least through my absence if nothing else.

I look forward to reading and seeing more stories.

Yup ponytail and black shirt.

As for the game I really have no recommendations to make but I will commend it. It was a great game and probably the best game I have ever played. I know I will not forget it. I loved the theme especially because it was the Army of Darkness. I loved that it was not a military scenrio game but a themed game. I loved playing with people who enjoyed pump paintball as much as I. This really was the best game, great job to the guys who put this on and I cannot wait for next years.

The thing I have to remember is to get to the field on time.

TrojanMan - August 5, 2008 01:16 PM (GMT)
Cargo, we actually had a 10-10:30 safety brief with game on at 11 to give people more time.

Not like I can talk, though. I was about 5 minutes late to the field. I can't remember why. I think it had to do with loading a bunch of tubes. I do know that a good handfull of our team was in the staging area wondering where to go and when. They came onto the field when they heard all the shooting and, of course, by then it was too late.

To be honest, it didn't turn out to be that big of a deal. I think we all had fun despite the start and besides, does anyone really care about the score? (of course the loser says that, right? )

I was a little frustrated for that hour of play and I got a little vocal about it. The pines didn't work, the left flank didn't work, charging straight ahead didn't work... If I have any regrets about the weekend it was getting so worked up over a silly game. So, if anybody minded my, "Argh, sonofab*tch!" when I got hit, I appologize.

Meph, I don't know about the auto-pushback rule because that would kindof defeat the purpose of the base flag. It's the main objective and yet you don't want to be too good at taking it. Just seems counterintuitive is all.

The idea we tossed around on the way home was a multi-flag system where each team had 3-5 capture points on their side of the field. Accordingly, there is one flag for each set of opposed cap. points. You get the flag and put it in your team's point and it scores on a timed cycle. What this does is to move the fight away from a single point so that teams can't get bottled up in their insertion. There's just no incentive to do so.

Once you cap one flag, you move on to the others and also defend the flags you have. The idea is that the winning team that has more flags actually has a smaller portion of the field under their control. The insertion zones are pretty much left alone because there's no real need to press them. Since an MS Paint can probably describe it best, some sort of game like this:

Of course, it's just an idea at this point. I'm not sure who wants to take the reigns on PPVI but we should at least get the ball rolling as soon as we can.

Yep that pony tail and black shirt were mine. You have to forgive our little group. Its not often we get the chance to play together.

Well next year im planning on attending as a player/ref again so if u guys need someone to yell and scream just gimme a shout before the game.

Jeffy-CanCon - August 5, 2008 05:02 PM (GMT)
Though the first hour was quite frustrating, I had a lot of fun. Thanks TM, Noodles and Brimmy for all your efforts. And thanks to Meph and Weltman for the costumes and leadership. :)

Regarding the game start, two of the three were Paulie and Joe from Cousins, along with Meph, I think. That there were only three red players ready at 11:00 is our own fault. But from what Joe told me, there was no ref at the start point, and those three had not been arm-taped and did not know the game was on. A ref came running in front of the advancing blues telling them that the game had started 30 seconds before. I'd like to think that if a ref had been present they would have held the game a few minutes to wait until more players showed up.

I would not want to see any significant change from the format, except that I don't like the base-flag idea. Ted's idea is interesting, though.

I do think TM's plan is pretty good.  Everything is pretty equalized in that scenario.  So even if one team does somewhat better there is always  chance for the opposing team to close the gap.

Well next year im planning on attending as a player/ref again so if u guys need someone to yell and scream just gimme a shout before the game.

Well vague312 nice playing with you. I was the one in the ACU's and combat boots. I enjoyed the runs I actually tried that in some games but I never had enough people to come with me. You had good little group to lead around into heavy fire.

shadow - August 5, 2008 08:39 PM (GMT)
The field size and terrain was great for the type of game and the number of players present. The extra flag station were an excellent improvement over last year's two sole base flags. Having multiple stationary flags spread the action throughout the field and allowed for more approaches to the tactical part of the game. Keeping the base flags allowed for more challenging action opportunities. In regards to the auto push-back thughts, I don't like it. Look, the attackers have to walk all the way back to reinsertion and then walk all the way back to the action around the base. That takes a lot of time and energy. If a team can't push out with such a handicap placed on the attackers, it's not a rule flaw, it's the fault of the defenders not getting organized enough. I've been in plenty of tight spots like that, so I don't mean to insult the red team. Just my opinion on the matter.

Overall, this was an excellent game. When you send one ball through thick brush and see a hand come up, you know that the level of sportsmanship in this game just can't be beat. I go to scenario and can dump a hopper into a bush and expect nothing to happen. I only wish I could spend the entire weekend playing pump, but participating in a pump only big game is the highlight of my season.

meph great leadership even with the small problem at the beginning.
Also made the guys feel good toward the end of the first half when blue retook the bridge. You said "We need a few suicide runners" then you looked at us. ^-^

Are there any ideas of a theme for next year?

All in all the game was great, yes there had been some small things that could be changed but as a hole the game was great. I had an awsome time and as always was glad to see you all agen.

I would like to thank everyone that came and gave time and hardware to make this work

Brim - im sorry you didnt play in the game but it turned out awsome so i thank you for taking one for the team.

Wevo - Thank you for the Stiffi/Phantom I got a chance to use it all day on sunday pickups and it is awsome

I cant wait to see you all agen next year for PP6

Trojanman, thanks for the paint loan at Fort Worr.
As it turns out, I was able to get by on what I had remaining.
I asked Jeffy to hand the tubes back to you when he returned to the field.

Thought of returning myself, but the storm had chased a good deal of players from the field.
By then, I was soaked and someone, possibly Will Read had handed me Sleeman's Honey Brown Lager.

Meph, you did a bang up job as general for the deadite faction.
Sorry we left you without visible support at the gun.
Apparently, the Living Dead do not own watches.

Blue Team - Well done!
I was ducking some pretty pinpoint shooting all day long.
I felt fortunate getting the eliminations I did.
Red Team - A great, often gutsy effort.
PP5 was closer than the flag pulls show.

Themes - Straight up Capture The Flag suits me fine.
What I appreciated about this year's theme, was it complimented the action, without overpowering it.

Drum, it was great to see you again.
I always look forward to shooting you.
Frustrated this year, in that I could not locate you.
You must have been skulking in the higher end bushes.

If I were only allowed one paintball event a year, Pump Pandemonium would be it.

Finally, I promise I'll devote more time socializing at the bunkhouses.
I've been missing out on meeting old friends and making new ones.
All great players.

Nah, I didn't expect to get it back. I had to leave to get air anyhow and I ran into Brim coming off the field who suggested that the game might be caled or delayed. Then, like you said, there was only a few minutes left in the game and, what the heck, drinking time had rolled around. Besides, I lost tubes all day long, and if you think about it, the 10 paintballs inside (40 cents) are worth more than the tubes and speedcaps they're in (25 cents each, total). So whatever, really.

Besides, it gives me an excuse to buy more from Wevo, right?

But yeah, that was pretty intense. I thought it was tough getting paint to go straight in the rain and yet they were zipping them all around our heads up there.

Oh, and I saw Drum on the field only one time. I had the high ground but he had better cover. I fired a few shots at him and then he ran away from me. I was like, WTF Drum?!
