Title: Fall Castle stories
kevdupuis - October 1, 2007 03:52 PM (GMT)
Who has stories from from Castle, I spent most of my time at the wall 3 doorway with only a few trips to pod up, get air and paint removal. My wife Deb was posted at one of the wall 3 windows until she decided it was getting too intense and retired to the dead zone. I have to congadulate her for hanging in there for 2 hours and putting out all the paint she did.
Also, on behalf of CanCon I want to thank all of the SCP members and teams who came out (attackers and defenders alike), what a great castle.

Canadians had this defence as organized as I've ever seen. Fantastic job, everyone. You guys deserve every bit of credit for a successful defence. I'm glad to have been part of it.
I shot almost two cases of paint in the 3 hours and change. Everywhere I looked there were targets and I just kept pulling the trigger. The charges and reinforcement movements were perfectly timed with the reinsertions and more often than not, I would get shot out either just before insertion or while the window was still open. I didn't spend much time in the deadbox at all and my legs now hate me for it.
At the rate I was shooting, I honestly did not have enough time to reload pods.
Nothing can describe the feeling of getting a good angle on one of those ramps and putting a lane across it during a charge. In the last half hour or so of the game, they sent a huge rush at the 3/4 ramp. I had a narrow lane to shoot through and put a line across the entrance to that ramp. I paused after I shot the first 3 or 4 people and was amazed that in the brief period where I was readjusting my feet (it was slippery after all) that at least half a dozen made it up the ramp! I laid the fire back on and people would just run into my paint. I emptied several pods, reloading while firing, and just more and more people kept running into that stream. It was unbelievable. I finally had to quit when one of the few people who did make it through put a ball on my feedneck. I have no idea how many people got sent packing from that charge but it was a LOT.
The whole game was just intense. I've never had more fun at a Castle game than at this one. It really raised the bar for awesomeness.
I can think of a lot of worse ways to spend a weekend and not a whole lot of better ones.

Great story!
I wish I would have been there. I'm stranded in Michigan for a while, but I know all had a good time. Anybody have pics?

Having Uwe in the doorway from the deadzone was an awesome touch. With him directing each new insertion group toward the latest trouble, the defenders were able to keep on top of the various pushes and kept the attackers out.
I had the great good fortune to find myself placed in the perfect position to confront about 4-5 attacker rushes, mostly at the 3/4 door/ramp and also at the door in wall 2. The quintessential Castle joy of throwing paintball after paintball into the masses of players trying to rush in is so much fun.
Over and over again, I would just be getting comfortable behind my window or next to some barrels when someone would yell "Here they come!" and the shooting would hot up and I would look to see targets galore to my front. I shot a case and a half and I'll wager the majority of those balls hit attacking players.
The flags(towels) and the towel captains was a spectacular touch. Also the tape on the barrels. On several occasions, I found myself at the "point" so to speak, where I was the first defender inside the wall near one of the doors.
This would require me to keep a careful eye not only where I was shooting at the door, but also down the corridor, in case by some miracle some attacker made it inside the walls. at least 3-4 times I was watching when an attacker began to come around the corner inside the walls and, seeing his barrel free of tape, I started shooting immediately instead of waiting for ID. It worked flawlessly until I forgot to look and got stitched across the kidneys from about 8 feet away, but Karma has a way of doing that to you.
Within minutes of the beginning of the game, I found myself on the wall by the 2/3 ramp. I was just about to rise up and take a peak when an attacker rearer up behind the wall I was sheltering behind and lit up the guy next to me. Unfortunately for the attacker, the muzzle of my gun was pointed right at his head as he came over and my surprise caused me to tighten my grip. The shot I took traveled about 6 inches from my muzzle and struck him just under the left side of his jaw. He screamed and disappeared.
I looked for that kid for the rest of the weekend to apologize, but I never saw anyone with the welt that I expected there. Sorry pal.
Great castle and an awesome job by the Canadians!
Forget our plans to invade that country...

Well, I shot a 46 (9 holes) at Rock Creek Golf Course on Friday afternoon.
Beat Andy, our general, by three strokes.
Fine, for the first two hours of Castle, I was armed with a stick and my 2-way radio.
I did have a gun, but loaned it to Bob when his E-Mag developed EMR Fever.
As Wall 2 Commander , I placed defenders, reported attacks and/or buildups, requested reinforcements and switched the flags.
Shooting?
I already had lots to do!
Changing flags on Wall 2 is an art.
It's the most exposed position in Castle Aargh.
Pop up, grab the flags, pop down, get the right flag & flick it over the wall.
I'd have to time my jumps between the volleys.
A bit of luck did not hurt either.
The same for carrying air & paint up the staircase to my gunners.
You'd time your climb to coincide with an ebb in the firing.
Often, there was no choice but to just go and hope for the best.
I guess I had the luck that day.
I was never hit, at least, not doing that.
Grenades - I dragged several boxes along the upper deck, dropping off a couple at each position.
When the attacks rolled in closer, I began tossing them myself.
Every time I'd throw a grenade, the return fire grew in intensity.
I'd have to squeeze into my corner and wait out the storm.
Streams of paint smacked into the stairs, walls & floors.
The boards were slick with it.
When it slackened, back out I went to lob more grenades.
Saw attackers leaving covered in pink, so I suppose I got a few of them.
At the top of the final hour, Bob was hit.
I took over the tower position covering Wall 2's ramp.
Settling into Bob's shooting seat, I kept the 'Mag just below the ledge.
The position was a beauty!
I could tuck in behind the wall and peer along the ramp.
It allowed a perfect view of the shed, Coke Can and the woods.
Every time the attackers formed up, I'd edge the 'Mag up onto the sill.
The moment they'd begin their charge, up came the gun, raking them all the way in.
The guys showed real guts, but none of them made it off that ramp.
Luckily for me, they rushed down the hill in manageable numbers, 5-7 attackers at a time.
Before the horn sounded to end Castle, I'd racked up 30-35 eliminations.
Not bad for one hour's shooting.

Wall 4 for me, all day. We used six cases of grenades!
I probably got eliminated a dozen times or more. It was lots of fun throwing grenades from the ramparts, and shooting both above and below. And directing traffic. I used about 20 grenades, and 1.25 cases of paint. Best estimate is about 35 kills. It was all good. And great to see some SCP guys in my wall when the going got tough about mid game.
Best story:
Mid game, just past the 90-minute point I think. I am the second last person shot out from the lower wall. Just after I get to the deadbox, the last guy follows me in, announcing that wall 4 now has no defenders. :(
I ask the Ref, and we're still 3 minutes to reinsertion. I start yelling and gathering people for the counterattack, figuring we are going to be slogging around every corner, starting with the one that says "no attackers past this point". Whistle blows, and we go, guns up and moving fast. :ph43r: One corner, clear! Two corners, three... We get to the end-room! A single attacker is cowering on the floor, and he surrenders and scampers as we enter yelling. More attackers are lollygagging outside the gateway, but now the Defenders have the windows again! We lit them up, scared the cr@p out of them! :bang: :bang: :bang:

I may have been on the tail end of that. All I remember is that someone behind me yelled, "Someone shoot that guy in the head!" and I looked through the nearest window to see an attacker with the back of their head right in the window so I popped him on the noggin.
Another time I was shooting through a window towards that little shack that had a bunch of people holed up behind it. I was just letting off a good string of fire when someone tried to catch a quick peek in the window and caught at least 4 shots right in the lens. I heard them scream pretty loud. *wha-wha-wha-whack!*
I only threw one grenade and it was one I caught.
I was standing around the corner of the entrance of wall four when this grenade comes flying through the door and bounces off the far wall. It hit me square in the chest and dropped into my left hand. I was like, "Hey, free grenade!" So I stepped out into the courtyard and gave it a good toss over the wall. No idea if it hit anybody but it was funny.

drum that might have been frank from delta you shot. when he came down to use before 2nd reinsertion he had a hit on his lower jaw almost neck that was nasty and bleeding. but he was laughing about it and wanted more.

Well, the karmic payback was not too long in coming. Here is a pic taken shortly after the game ended.
Now these welts are unspeakably ugly and very large bruises and the scabs thereon itch like madness.

You can send that one to Frank if you think it will make him feel any better. And tell him I am sorry for not taking his surrender...

Loneliest Moment - An hour into the fight, alone on Wall 2's upper level, with my 2-way, stick and 2 paint grenades.
"Uh, Uwe, I need reinforcements NOW!"
Luckily, they chose not to attack.

Glad it was a good game for all. I got struck with severe Vertigo, and seeing as things i my line of sight were moving on their own, I opted not to run around and possibly take a head shot. Sorry I couldn't be there to help pound some paint.
