Title: Thanks to SCP for playing for Red
Description: from rat - the general

rathbaster - August 5, 2007 11:21 PM (GMT)
Thanks to everyone from SCP who played on my side, I seemed to be in a sea of SCP shirts much of the time.

We put up a hard fight but blue put up a harder fight. We played hard and they played harder.

Thanks to all the players on red for playing by my side

and thanks to Brimstone and Dewar and all the EMR staff (field and reffing) for putting on a good show :D

I have left thanks and congratulations for the good Mister Brown and the Blue side over at SCP B) Thanks and congratulations again to any of Blue side who read this
:)

Thanks for leading the Reds Rath, I think we did alright!

I'd like to ditto the thanks to Brimmy and Dewar for their hardwork, and Wevo and CCI for donating guns. Congrats blue, you guys deserved it.

I had a great time. Thank you to everyone involved with the planning of the event.

One thing I did not like was that when filling my 3.5 oz after lunch.. the guy behind the counter gave me attitude for having it filled 4 times (it was actually the 2nd time), and told me that next year he would post that 3.5 and 4oz tanks were not going to be allowed because they were sick of filling them.

Other than that I had a blast and I am EXTREMELY thankful to CCI and other event sponsors for providing give aways.

papaintballer - August 6, 2007 12:50 AM (GMT)

it was a blast shooting so many ppl and getting use to pump finally. Great job red, fantastic job blue. I'd like to thank big dog, psycho, and crash for the awesome job they did. All the carter guys and o'dells paintball for being there. Kool guys, i stood there talking to them for hours and fondeling the guns like mad.

It was a great day though I was nursing a migraine and had to call it quits around 4, plus it's always fun hooking up with the members of SCP the drunk...errr bunkhouse. :D ;)
I'm going to wait until tomorrow to download all the pics Deb took during the game then post a few.

As usual, my EMR experience seemed to be cursed. Thursday night on the road to the event at 1am the "tickle" appeared in my throat and chest - and unfortunately it wasn't from something short and curly after from having fun with Mrs. Six...

We arrived at a little after 4am and the tickle was a bit more intense, and it actually kinda hurt in my mid-chest. ShawnBob and I found a bunkhouse and "stumbled around like blind sows in a meat house" in the dark of the place setting up our bed racks. We got to bed at about 5am.

Friday, 07:30 - Rise and shine at EMR! Emm! Nothing quite as invigorating as 2 1/2 hours sleep - my sinuses were running pretty good at this point, and I had that really sick feeling that some massive cootie party was going on in my bronchi. Still, I was looking forward to the possible games in the afternoon and was looking forward with anticipation to playing some pump ball.

Friday morning got to touch base and share some laughs with Last RiTes, my brothers from Michigan. I really enjoy the company of Swampy, Lonnie, Bill and had the pleasure of meeting some of the other members of the team that I hadn't met before - Shawn and Dave. I love to spend time with these guys and am grateful for the time that I had to spend with them. Got to spend a little time with the Masse's as well Friday morn, again enjoyed their company.

Later on, touched base with the Fort Wayne contingent of "Rabid Squirrels" and moved my gear up to the Squirrel bunkhouse. Chem-X, Fryloc, Darkwaters - great to bunk with you fellas - good people.

Friday noon, I touched base with the EMR staff regarding when we could start playing. I was told that there wouldn't be refs available to monitor us, that the "event" was Saturday. I responded that in years past, we had been allowed to "ref" ourselves, that certain among us (myself included) had been allowed to ref initial games on Friday afternoons / evenings. The Staff member got very nervous at that and stated that EMR refs would have to be there and that none were available. I was pissed off by this. I had driven all night to hopefully get in some ball Friday and suddenly was shot down by a technicality, a piece of litigious BS policy that assumes I'm not an adult. I was angry about that...

Friday evening I spent some time up at SCP bunkhouse, I knew at this time that I was getting a nice blown out dose of Bronchitis but I wasn't really feeling horribly bad - Yet... I enjoyed some "fluke worm" beer from the SCP tap and later in an attempt to help with the Tiki torches at the SCP bunkhouse I learned that tiki torches can be very dangerous... I ended up flaying the skin off of one of my fingers and I signed the bar with my blood and a bit of my flesh!

Late Friday evening we were joined by StrokerAce, Quickling, and Amhildreth at the bunkhouse - though I was already sacked out by the time they arrived. Still, we got to spend some time talking and enjoyed some meals together and I very much enjoyed seeing everyone again - despite my foggy thinking and feeling like $#it.

Saturday morning I woke and felt like death warmed over. I'd been up several times in the night hacking and truly getting sick. My voice sounded like Lou Rawls and I was very distracted by feeling so darned crappy, sneezing and coughing. I tried to play in the morning but I felt that I had spiked a fever on the field, I noticed that my thinking was impaired, I was getting confused and was having difficulty functioning at all. I ended up going back to the bunkhouse early in the morning and spending most all of Saturday laying in my rack miserable. I am thankful that I had a nice assortment of pharmaceuticals on hand to choose from to bring my fever down and knock me out at night so that I could at least get some sleep.

The rest of the weekend went about the same - me being sick, miserable and in a fog. I wasn't thinking well, either from running a temp most of the time or from the medication to try and aleve the symptoms. I found it hard to focus on conversations, my thinking was "fuzzy" and I was mostly caught up in just feeling really $hitty and cheated by my lousy luck or curse it seems, regarding EMR events.

While I very much enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new ones I am saddened in retrospect that because I got sick I wasn't much company to them and was so foggy and preoccupied with feeling like $#it all weekend. I am even more honked off after having looked forward to the event the entire year - and then being side-lined last minute by health issues.

I wasn't too happy with the event either - from what I experienced at least. I think Brimstone did a good job organizing things, did a great job lining up prizes etc. - thanks for doing your part for the event Dan.

I didn't like the field selection for the event though. Of all the courses available at EMR to play in, I think this year we had about the most cruddy available. One of the insertion points was at the base of an open field with no cover to speak of and several meters of open space not offering any cover. The lay of the land was almost all up hill to boot. It was a pickle to get out of after insert. I felt it was bad Juju from the get go.

SCP forces just couldn't get it together either. We were fractured, not playing on the same page, and many of the guys (including myself) at times were playing timid and not aggressive. Props to Trojan for attempting to bolster morale and organize pushes (I saw him do this a number of times when I was on the field in the morning) but it seems that we never really organized or coalesced into an organized fighting force the whole day.

The heat was an issue as well. I was reminded of why we had changed the date from August to July after PP2 - the heat was a factor in this. Blue team stayed in the game, was organized and hungry for action. They kept going despite the heat and weren't distracted by it (much like our forces were during PP2).

From what I saw in the field (for the short time I was on it) and from what I gathered from team Blue (and Red) after the event Blue played a great game. They where organized, played aggressively and valiantly in many instances, they utilized field advantages and were smart enough to recognize and utilize field disadvantages for their opposition. They operated on the fly regarding tactics available and seized opportunities when they presented themselves. They had good aggressive small squad tactics, utilized good, organized crossfire / cover-fire tactics and communicated well in the small units they operated in. They played very well and truly deserved the victory this year. They earned it, they worked hard for it - and they got it!

It was rumored that a couple of people on Blue during random Chrono tests were found to be shooting 385 fps and one person shooting at 400+ fps - it was consequently rumored that said individuals were immediately washed out of the game and told to leave the facility by EMR ref staff. If this is fact and not rumor - this shouldn't be-smudge the win for Blue at all! Don't blame a valiant and deserved win for a couple of cheating bad apples in the bunch! I know a lot of the guys that played on Blue and know them personally to be good and fair players that would never knowingly do such a thing. It is sad that a couple of individuals did possibly lower themselves to cheating (upping their velocity) that happened to be playing on Blue. Still, don't let that be-smudge a good and well deserved win for Blue!

This is the first PP event as well that I heard anything about overshooting - but I did at this event. Most of the time given that it's a pump event after all, we laugh and find humorous the concept of overshooting. However StrokerAce recanted to us that at one point he was eliminated after being shot 3 times by an individual auto-triggering. He stood up yelling "I'm out" holding his gun in the air and arms up and then proceeded to be auto-triggered on 10 more times for a grant total of 13 welts! Again, by his reckoning this fire came from an individual, not random group fire - but an individual. The salient thing to remember in this instance isn't so much "overshooting" but "individual".

Blue won this victory with tactics and good play - not by cheating. It does appear however that a couple of folks from mainstream paintball crossed over to play pump for a day as evidenced by the rumor of elevated velocities and people being "kicked out" of the game because of it, and in the event of StrokerAce having been "stitched" by an individual overshooting him.

Props to Blue for playing a damned fine game of ball, for being organized, for flowing and ebbing like a cohesive unit across the board and not yielding to the temptation to give up in the heat of the weather - but sticking in, persevering and seizing opportunities when they presented itself. It is these very traits that won our victory at PP2 - consequently it is the very same traits that won Blue the same this year. They outplayed us, they were hungrier, faster and smarter this year and nothing can detract from that. They earned the victory - and don't let a couple of rumored or real cheaters in the mix detract from that earned victory!

I didn't feel as "welcome" at EMR this year as I have in the past. The fields weren't mowed or maintained this year, the field selection for the big game was inferior to those in years past and there seemed to be a lot more "hassle" from some EMR staff toward us regarding fills and regarding our ability to comport ourselves as adults and "self-ref" our own people. Despite my feelings in that regard, it would be wrong of me to not offer thanks still for the consideration of EMR in hosting the event again - and likely at a loss or simply breaking even. We must realize that we aren't a "money maker" for any field that hosts us or our events. Perhaps we should feel fortunate for the good will and consideration offered us in the past and simply be grateful for what we can get regarding hosting of events.

I missed out on a lot this year because of just some really $#itty luck...hopefully there is next year to look forward too.

In PP events to come I would like to see less of a big game and something more along the lines of the "pickup" games that are and have been so enjoyed on Sundays in years past. I would be pleased as punch to see an entire PP event based solely on small 20-50 man small games on various fields throughout the weekend. Whether or not that would be possible logistically is unknown. Likely it would involve greater ref staff or it would involve some people relegated to ref staff to ensure fair conduct and maintain good order and sportsmanship. I for one would be happy to help in such an endeavor any way I could. I think such an event would be great and would truly highlight the "fun" of SC play.

I know that I personally in years past have enjoyed the Saturday big games, but in truth, I really came for the small Sunday games. That is where I've always had the most fun and have played the most rewarding and enjoyable paintball. I think an entire weekend of those small "pickup" type games would far surpass anything PP events have offered in the past. Perhaps that is something for consideration for future events.

In closing, thanks to Blue and EMR for hosting the game - I hope that we can continue to have a good relationship and that EMR can continue to be the home of PP events in years to come. Thanks to Team Blue this year for playing a damned fine game of paintball - enjoy your win this year - you have earned it! Thanks for the camaraderie of all the old friends and the new ones met. Thanks to all the sponcers - CCI, Wevo etc. for thinking enough of our community to offer up some nice prizes. Thanks most of all to each of you that attended the event, that continue to be passionate about paintball, and keep SC / Pump paintball alive.

Though I ended up sick and mostly miserable this year - at least I was able to make it. It was good to see all the old faces and meet some new ones at least. I just hope I'm in better shape for the next one.

In short, it chrono'd over 400 because the chrono batteries where going and giving false readings. Everything was sorted out. The guys who were said to be overshooting even got a free pass to EMR for the fall as an apology. EMR is a class act all the way around.

Sorry you got sick man. That is NEVER any fun.

^ thanks for the clarification! As I stated in my post - it was "rumored". It is very good to have this rumor dispelled! :)

My friends and I had a great time. Great sportsmanship on the field. This is one of the reasons why we like to play pump. I like lots of space to manuever and any terrain that's not flat and open, so I thought that the field selection was good. The simple format turned to be pretty good. We came just for the Saturday big game and unlike a poster above, would like to see this format kept for future games. One day for players who like big games, one day for players who like rec, and a fun weekend for everyone. Hope to make next year.

papaintballer - August 7, 2007 12:55 AM (GMT)
i got asked by the ref to check my velocity on sunday when we played those few games in ferrymen's airfield. He said "it sounds freakish" i was longballing halfway across the field into the tower. So i could definatly see why he may think i was shooting hot. chronoed and first one was 215, then 235. Then again thats with a handheld chrono. And he appologized. Over the big radar chrono's my gun was +/-1 all day saturday, and about +/-7 sunday. Had alot of barrel breaks sunday due to the heat taking its toll on the paint.

I love Worr Domination paint though, very bright fill, brittle shell.

Fryloc - August 7, 2007 02:39 AM (GMT)
My favorite part was seeing all the SCP shirts being worn in the heat, despite them being long sleeve.

Several of us talked a bit about the event, it's future, and what we could do to keep it fresh.

crazyorigin - August 7, 2007 05:20 AM (GMT)
I had a blast playing an all pump game. I will definetly come back again next year. This was my first all pump game, actually it was my first time playing anyone else with a pump gun at all. The sportsmanship and great shooting skills seen through the day were something to remember. I was exhausted by 5 when i finaly had enough and went home. I bought a Sterling and cant wait to get it out and break it in, the gun is sweet. Congrats to the blue team for showing excellent teamwork and strategy thoughout the day. And i Apologize for the 2 friendly fire kills i had, it was pretty intense now and then.

Brimstone - August 7, 2007 05:25 AM (GMT)

crazyorigin - August 8, 2007 06:39 PM (GMT)
I tried to save the day a few times, but i usualy made it through a few good plays then somehow was out of paint and air. I found just sitting by a tree after shooting 8 people is a good way to keep people away =P I'm not sure what viper is but i will be at fall castle conquest with the Quest.

papaintballer - August 8, 2007 11:14 PM (GMT)
viper game. labor day weekend..... and u better be attacking for castle and come say hi to your voodoo boys :P

In that instance, perhaps.

During the afternoon, Steve Cusano of Cousins and I watched wood chips splintering off our fort walls.
Hot guns were present on the field.
This is EMR, where hot weather & altitude conspire to play havoc with velocity.

I witnessed a few isolated cases of wiping as well, but it was fairly rare.
It only shocked in that I'd never experienced "any" in previous Pump Pandemoniums.
I hope it's a trend we can reverse.

This should in no way diminish the efforts of players on both teams.
Matched against most events, the sportsmanship and marksmanship exhibited at PP4 were remarkable.

Full marks to Blue Team for a great effort.
They played with daring, energy and skill.

Red Team will be back in 2008. :bang:

i guess im stuck on blue for life just to make sure we win every year now! buahahah. I dont think i ever got as many eliminations from PP4 as i have in any other event. It was insane, I think i eliminated the PCP guy more then anyone else. Most of the day i saw him just give me the thumbs up as i shot him. watch him come outta the spawn and shoot em again! wooot it was great

swampthing - August 9, 2007 09:42 PM (GMT)
Well, while we, Last Rites, all had a good time and shot a few people, I don't see a need to brag about how many kills anyone got. After all, hunting respawn points is kinda like shooting fish in a barrel.

Thought the level of play was slightly below the mark set by PPI, but that was mostly due to all of the high end Snipers with AT's and "Halos". Almost like playing against slow shooting semis.

Six, as I said before the game, grab a black shirt and join the fun. We can always use one more to help sew the seeds of Chaos and Mayhem.

Disappointed in the lack of Friday games. Was really looking forward to them. Disappointed that my back wrenched halfway through Saturday and didn't want to risk further injury by playing Sunday. Could make a few other minor complaints about the field, but they are not worth dragging up.

Rabid Squirrels, my apologies for the "Viking Raid" on your bunkhouse Saturday night and my thanks for the gift from Andy.

Brimstone, good prizes at the giveaway. Awesome job on collecting the swag.

All that being said, see you next year.

Meph - August 10, 2007 02:54 AM (GMT)
Glad I could've helped the little I could. We might not have won but I still had a great time at PP. My game was shot like a tin can at a Texas ranch. The first couple hours were pretty schnazzy, but something happened and I just couldn't hit anybody anymore. That or who I did hit either the paint slowed down through 500ft of tall grass, or the sun warmed up the paint and made the shell not as brittle. That grass really got on my nerves a couple times that weekend. And not even due to the lack of running ability or how it attacked my legs (was wearing shorts).

So unlike puffins experience it wasn't that they were wiping. It's simply that if the paint hit it didn't break. Though sadly enough them longballing from 200ft away hitting my arm... broke instantly without effort. I don't understand how a paintball can break yet not transfer over any kinetic energy! A hit or break you feel the impact, sometimes get a welt. Not this weekend. That happened so many times to me that I just have to laugh at it. And be frustrated at times, too.

The only thing I can suggest is that next year... more than 2 flags. That was ridiculous.

So unlike puffins experience it wasn't that they were wiping. It's simply that if the paint hit it didn't break.

My experience was quite the opposite: The paint was excellent, but I saw more cheating @ PP4 than all three previous PP's combined.

Not going to go on a tangent, but I even had to escort a blue team player halfway to his deadbox because not 30secs prior I removed said player and three of his buddies from the hyperball field only to watch him remove his barrel bag, wipe the hit on the back of his leg (but not the welt) and resume shooting @ red team. I guess he figured I wasn't still watching him, but I was. I had to chase him down, put my barrel in his back and express my extreme disapproval.
His reply "Oh, I didn't know".

Another incident, soon after and still on the hyperball field, a whole team of players in cute matching tourney wanker jersies wailed on me after just coming on to the field...from the parking lot! I basically again said "WTF" and explained to them the concept of reinsertion from the proper location (blue team base), not wherever they saw fit.

Pretty much the whole afternoon, I either was directly involved or witnessed from a distance, unsportsman-like conduct and pretty much decided to pack it in early.
I obviously was the minority and was unlucky to have the dark cloud over my head that day but I figured 'what's the point?'
I'm wasn't going to argue ad nauseum, or get in to fisticuffs though I very nearly did as my patience was wearing itself quite thin.

I just think perhaps next Pump Pandemonium there ought to be a re-iteration of who we are and whey we're there. Methinks the "win at all costs" attitude more closely associated with tournament players is creeping in to the minds and attitudes of the recreational crowd, and that's pretty damned sad.

Sheazer - August 10, 2007 04:40 PM (GMT)
Ian - Sorry to hear you witnessed such BS. I can't recall any blatant cheating that I witnessed, but they were a few instances when they were some unsportsmanlike conduct I felt. Let's get it going right next year - and I'll definitely be rocking an SC gun.

papaintballer - August 10, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
I loved the paint... till after break. The heat killed my paint, actually started breaking so much paint in the barrel, the paint swelled and became crap for me. In the morning when i chronoed my phantom i was shooting +/-1 over the chrono, with extreme accuracy. Then about 2 hours later, it was roughly +/-3 with still exceptional accuracy. Then after break, it became like +/-15 and a ball break or 2 every 20-30 shots. Which then bc i was shooting a freak my accuracy was affected the rest of the day. Worst thing about SP barrels, especially freaks are that when u break a ball u call it a day. They require you to squeegie, run water down the barrel, squeegie again, dry the best you can. And check for any residue or debris in the front, back, insert and around the threads and orings for the meeting point of the front and back.

Other then my whole swollen paint and crap accuracy after lunch it was a great game :P Thats only reason i went to the CF body and running the VL200 was bc i was breaking paint in my feedtube.

Drum - August 11, 2007 09:48 AM (GMT)
I guess there is no such thing anymore as a paintball game without cheating and, more tragically imho, there will never be another paintball game where someone isn't complaining about other players cheating.

One thing that I find somewhat fascinating is that in all the complaint type posts about cheating is that I cannot ever recall a complaining player complaining about cheating coming from a fellow teammate.

Even for that recent Skirmish bloodbath, the complaints I saw were basically, I was on the German side and saw a lot of cheating by the Allies or, I was on the Allies side and those Germans were wiping.

Why is it that no-one ever sees (or complains about) cheating from someone on the same team?

Well, quite frankly what has me fed up to a degree with paintball in general is the lack of enjoyment of the game and the complaining. From someone who missed PP4, I find it very hard to believe that one could spend a day or a weekend at EMR, playing pump with online chums and strangers and not have enough fun to find something else to post besides complaints about cheating.

Maybe our sport has progressed too far and people have forgotten about what fun is and what we would be doing with our time if it weren't for paintball. Complaints are a sign of personal dissatisfaction and if that is all one can see, then maybe it is time to find something to enjoy more. If they think about it hard enough, maybe some folks will find they have something better to do afterall.

Anyway, I never expected to see such bitching related to a pump event at EMR.
In some ways, maybe we need an incident like the swimmy fins each year to remind us that we are (mostly) adults playing a game that is supposed to be fun.

That is all.

Well, you are constantly looking at (for) the enemy and not your teammates. Especially during the heat of battles. That could explain that situation. ;)

At PP2 (I think) during the Sunday games we were in the courtyard of Castle Arrgghh playing and I was in the center tower with a group of gents. We were getting pounded by incoming fire and the guy next to me (on my team) was hit, looked down at the hit, wiped it, laughed and started shooting again.

I gave the dude a stern look in the eye and stated: "You'd better get the fu<k out of this tower man." The guy left, there wasn't further incident. That is the only such "incident" of cheating that I've personally seen during a PP event.

Yeah Drum, that happens. No, most folks don't mention it, but we should all be on the look out for it. Regardless of team affiliation we should try and nip that crap in the bud wherever we see it.

In the very short time I was on the field for PP_IV I didn't see any examples of people cheating at all, I did however see the OPFOR playing a damned fine game of organized aggressive ball though. I did see our spawn area pinned down, and I did see waves of our guys coming out of spawn only to return a very short time later. :P

As I stated before, I didn't like the field selection / set up because of the ease with which the spawn points were dominated by the OPFOR, there just wasn't any place to go for cover right out of the box and it got to be like fish in a barrel. I really missed those extra flag pulls in the short time I was on the field. I'm not blaming the loss on that - in regard to the loss, we simply were outplayed this year.

I haven't had a cigarette since the Sunday I left PP in the afternoon. I'm still sick with a URI / Bronchitis though. With any luck I'll be able to stay off the damned cigarettes and hopefully avoid the whole illness thing next year. There is always next year... ;)

I missed you Drum. Hope all is well with you and yours....again there is always next year...

Perhaps my apparent snippiness above is the result of my jealousy of you all with having missed my first PP and the rant about cheater posts is a long-standing pet peeve of mine.

Complaining about a "bad" day of paintball is like complaining about an imperfect blow job.

Thanks, we like you too, Drum.

I was mightily impressed by the effort the Blue Team showed this year.
They had a good game plan and executed it beautifully.
Gutsy moves and daring, aggressive play.
Blue took chances and grabbed the initiative.
They rarely relinquished it.
Full marks to them on their deserved win.

Cheating on the Red Team?
There may well have been.
I don't know.

I don't really care which side's doing it, but rather that it exists at all.
If cheating was present at previous Pump Pandemoniums, I never encountered it.
I'm not prepared to accept it as the futur norm.

Pump Pandemonium has always been a collegial game, played among friends.
It's far too much fun to be tarnished by cheating.
What a waste that would be.
Our players, Red & Blue, SCP & MCB are far too talented to resort to it.
