Title: Just got my freaking awesome Tac 8!

pbrules15 - August 2, 2007 12:53 AM (GMT)
My Tiberius Tac 8 came in yesterday!

My first thoughts when I saw this gun was, "Wow this thing is huge!" I pick it up and to my surprise it doesent feel big at all! This gun is very well balanced, and comfortable to hold. I'm so used to my PGP, this thing feels so different. The grip is a lot bigger than the PGP, but not in a bad way. It has to be to hold the co2 and air. I love the low profile it has, nothing like any of the other semi pistols. What I thought was really cool was that the barrel is removable. You just push in, and twist and it comes right out. The mag is also very impressive, it's made of all metal, no cheap plastic. Probably why they cost 45 bucks for an extra one. It's pretty cool when you eject the magazine, it shoots a little burst of air out when it seals the co2, so the mag comes out right into your hand.

So far I can't find anything I don't like about this pistol. I can't wait to get on to the field Friday and play with this thing!

And now the pics...

Coolio to hoolio. I think I'd just burn up all my 12ies playing with the mag ejection.

Yeah, I think I went through like fifteen or twenty so far, and I haven't even played with it yet!

Just a tip: when reloading, DO NOT slam the mags into the marker. When loaded, the first ball is just barely in there and comes out fairly easily. If you slam it, it'll come out and either break just on the edge of the breach or stab itself on the marker's valve pin. Not fun either way and very messy. Just take your time, slide it in nicely and push gently until you hear/feel the click.

Also, you'll notice that after a few 12 grams, you'll inevitably get some mags that'll vent. That's cuz the o-ring in the valve (on the mag) gets ripped/stuck/whatever. Not a difficult fix but if you want a better o-ring to replace it, get some 004 Viton o-rings. They seem to last longer and when they degrade, they tend not to get stuck too much.

The latest models have a tapered shoulder on the pin that goes into the magazine, I got one from Tiberius and replaced the pin in my gun and haven't changed an o-ring since, his new one will hopefully have it already. They're still tweaking as they go along.
I've found it's best not to eject the mags onto even soft ground, I use my shirt pocket, like this:

I eject the mag into my shirt pocket, load the next one, then in play I would grab the empty and put it back in the pouch I got the reload from as I moved. This works nice folded up tight into a bunker as well.
Good old shirtpocket :D

I've got one of those quick changes, and I noticed that every now and then a 12 gram will leak just a little bit. But, if I use the changer that requires an allen wrench, it doesent leak, ever. I don't think that's the valve. Also, I should probably mention that I am using Crossman Co2's, it's all I can find in my area.

Heard of this?

Awesome..... Maybe I need to get a shirt with a pocket then... :)

Ive never had a problem slamming the mags home. In the middle of a quick reload, there is no time to be gentle.

I have 5 magazines for mine all w/ the quick change pins in them. On initialy seating the 12g they usualy leak a tiny bit more out than w/ the allen key for some reason. It may just be that there is a bit more flex in the pin shaft than the allen wrench but i havent had it leak after they were seated properly. Also, dont pop a magazine half out and then back in to show someone how the gun works, i did this 2 times before i remembered it was stupid. A ball will fall out of the clip, sometimes 2 and make an aweful mess up inside the gun. I am waiting for WWA to come out with their freak insert barrel for the Tib8 but it seems like it is taking forever.

i remember reading somewhere that WWA decided not to go ahead with the freak kit for the TAC 8. Did that change at all?

Why not try Nathan at Odells Paintball and see if he can come up with something on boring out Tac8 barrels. He currently does it on phantom barrels, and I asked him do a few Dye ultralite barrels for me. Came out great.

crazyorigin - May 15, 2008 05:57 PM (GMT)
I talked with him at SPE about this, and he said he was gonna pick up one sometime to tinker around with. I dont think the stock barrels are long enough to bore out, ad the rearmost inch of the barrel is set up like a boredrop, similar to a twistlock mag barrel. the WWA barrels, thst dont exist i guess, were inserted from the front, in a new barrel and the muzzle threaded on to hold the insert into place.

AgentSmith - May 22, 2008 04:42 PM (GMT)
It seems like alot of this is all symptoms of one issue I fixed when I first got mine and haven't messed with since. The spring in the mags I got was overpowered. I'm not suggesting anyone else cut their springs!!!
I cut mine a tiny bit at time until those problems went away and have yet to feel I chopped one by firing too fast. Now if the going's slow I can eject a mag and top it off, but that may not be typical.

I've said it before and I'll say it again :) . Freak inserts are overkill when the barrel is a simple twistlock tube.
It would be cheaper and WAY simpler to produce a set of 5 SIZED BARRELS.
Barrel kit, not inserts, IMO.

Diffrent sized barrels would actualy be a great ides, especialy since they are basicaly the same length of an insert to begin with. You could probably even turn down an existing barrel to fit, and be a bore drop w/ the twist in and clips too. hmmm....

twinky4907 - May 28, 2008 05:50 AM (GMT)
I got a tac on order so I can do a freak barrel for these. I know there is a demand for them....
