Title: Question
Talio - April 8, 2007 10:11 AM (GMT)
So I know I'm not going to be able to get everything together to go to this in April, but I want to go to the Fall castle (assuming it doesn't fall over Octoberfest) and I'm wondering. Being as this is a big stock class board, do you all use your pumps doing things or do you go semi for the day? And if you do use pumps, do you go stock class or do you switch it up for a hopper?
I'm pretty much gonna play all summer to prepare for this and Pandemonium untill I'm rediculous with my Phantom. It's actually looking like I'm going to join up with a team and play front with one.
So you guys who have been there before, how realistic is it to use the pump or should I start practicing with my Angel now?
Talio.

A few hardcore players use pump or stock class markers.
If you're attacking and have the benefit of 800 other players, it's not a big issue.
Defending is a whole different situation.
Castle is not a finesse game, but rather a huge brawl.
Defenders are routinely outnumbered 4 to 1 (often higher) at Castle Conquest.
Firepower is key to any chance of survival.
Attackers will try to concentrate on a single point and batter their way in.
Do not be surprised to find yourself alone, holding a wall or tower, waiting for the defender re-insert.
Defenders need all the bps, air & ammo they can beg, borrow or steal (not literally).
FC - CanCon is leading the defense and requesting all defenders carry semis.
Defending? - Dust off your Angel, bring as much HPA and as many 140 rd pods as you can carry.

Puffin has the gospel on Fall Castle. He and I have twice been on the bad end of 7-1 odds, the second time with the pump defense of CC XVI. Good players can reasonably sacrifice odds or tech, but not both.
For Pandemonium, use whatever you like. Many players use stock guns. The teams are even in numbers, and everyone is using pump or stick so it doesn't make much difference. Few of the CanCon guys & girls will use stock in a big-game, though. It's just easier to attack if you don't have to rock & cock.
:D

im gonna be giving my Angel 1 to the tech at castle, ive got the approval to rock with my phantom, since BT nor WDP makes a pump marker.
at castle its best to have all the paint and firepower u can possibly have on you. I was hopeing to have a custom made harness to carry 10-12 pods on me, but that didnt happen. so im just going to have to get a 5+4 or something.
CC is not a game to miss, although im becoming a frontier wars person, i just love playing the fort. And honestly think the format is the best ever.

What is the format for Frontier Wars? I haven't made it out for that yet.

Is that Western Worrs, played on the weekend of June 23/24?
It's right between BGLI & PP4 (now that it's been shoved to Aug 4th).
A few of us might be able to make that.

Frontier Wars has been a good game in the past. Usually very toasty weather.
The format is the standard two sides and originally it was intended as a "mini Castle Conquest" of sorts with one team (Natives) having a numbers advantage and the other (Settlers) having a position advantage (Fort Worr plus outlying settlements). Points were awarded based on time of occupation. There were a number of flags around the field at each of the different fortified positions and the teams scored points based on which flags were up and for how long.
Spawn time was even with the Natives spawning at their camp and the Settlers spawning at the NE corner of Fort Worr plus any uncaptured settlements around the field. Once a settlement fell, Settlers could not respawn there again. The settlements could be recaptured for points but it couldn't be used for spawning again. Natives can never deny the Settlers their last spawn point in the Fort and must stay out of the NE corner completely.
Or at least that's how the format worked last year.
I played Natives the first year and Settlers the second.
As with many EMR games, balancing of teams had been a small issue. Also, because it was very hot, people tended to take a lot of breaks which would sway the odds back and forth throughout the day. Towards the end of the game, there was a lot of waiting on top of the walls, looking out through foggy goggles going on.
The point structure makes it that the Settlers need more than just the Fort to win but if the Settlers get an early enough lead to win the game by attrition, they can afford to pile all their players inside the Fort and just hold out there. Same with the Natives if they take the settlements early enough and simply hold them. That's the biggest downside to the game structure and the ability to make the game unwinnable combined with the heat and high humidity can force a lot of players off the field.
Though all that is made up for once the shooting inside the Fort starts. :D :bang:

We all had a great time defending with CanCon last year. I would do it again, no question. My only regret is that I happened to be on the other side of the Castle when wall 4 was getting gassed. Oh wait... that's not a regret. :P

I am getting more an more hyped to come to castle.
Its gonna be great to meet up with a lot of you guys again.
As for my personal armory for castle. I am bringing two semis, My Emag which currently has decided to blow out air and confound me at every step of the way, and my stroker. It will be the second castle outing for the stroker and its fresh back from a full rebuild and tuneup :D . I may bring my cocker as well but im not sure yet.
I am going to bring my sniper, phantom, and sidetube as well as I know those guns are bullet proof. If all else fails I am gonna have fun rockin a nice selection of pumps. I have been thinking alot about rocking the sniper from the start actually. I might have to start with the phantom (duck slide) to force me into the groove and fast though.
