Title: which pistol?

ricin - March 21, 2007 12:25 AM (GMT)
I just recently sold my phantom after having it for a year, but never using it because i needed the money. Plus, after i thought about it, i would rather have a small semi gun. So, ive decided to get a pistol to use for the few big games that ill end up playing this summer. however, im unsure if i should get a Zeus Wsp or a Tac 9. Keep in mind that i plan to use it as a primary. Ive heard great things about both guns. What should i do?

Get a Tac8 pistol! They are amazering!

i personally played with a g2 (which is similar to the WSP) for some time and wasnt really impressed with it. the balance just doesnt work for me that well. It works well for Smith, who seems to have played for a long time...but to each his own.

Try them out before you go out and make an impulse buy based on someone elses opinion of a pistol. It will be the best money you never spent.

amazering huh?

and just where am i supposed to go to try shooting these before i buy them?

don't get a tac 8 as a primary, it's around 50 bucks per extra clip. I carry 40 10-rounders on me when I go play semi pistol.

I would strongly suggest a palmers, you can find one used around the price of a tac 8 with extra clips. I've been playing pistol only for more than six years with a PGP stroker I couldn't use another gun. A squall on the other hand performs better in terms of consistancy and gass efficiency, but I can't deal with it's balance. On the other hand smith has also been playing pistol a long long time with a G2 and says it works perfect for him. Note that he did some mods to it, read the why a sidearm thread. Me and him discuss, albiet heatidly, playing pistol only.

Yet if you ask this question at say, spec ops, everyone is going to say tac 8. Your answers are all going to vary unfortunatly. even if you get two diffrent people who both have a higher skill level than most and lots of experience.

Honestly, I've owned a couple of old Zeus pistols and I currently own a T8 and a PGP and I wouldn't recommend a T8 as a main. I've run it as such but carrying 5 or more mags can slow ya down. Really, it's a fun plinker and can be used as a primary but being limited to mag reloads can be a bit of a pain.

I'd say to invest in something like a PGP Stroker or a Squall if you want something really nice. And if cash isn't growing on trees for ya, you really can't go wrong with a Zeus-type pistol.

The big difference is that with a T8, to lug 88 rounds you'd need 10 mags plus pouches to hold them. It's damn heavy. I know, I've tried it. It's a hell of a lot ligher and easier to hold 8 tubes with a few 12 grams in a stock class harness (or whatever). Plus, it's better if you plan on getting into some good trouble.

Having had both, I'd rather hit the field with a slew of tubes and 12 grams than the equivalent in mags.

BTW, 10-shot kid, I think we met briefly at Fall Castle.

I went to the palmers website but was confused. They dont make the gun? you have to give them a gun to convert? very confusing.

i looked at the typhoons, and yeah, i dont have $600 to spend. Im looking just for something to use for the summer, and i rarely play. im not going to spend $600. but if i could get away with spending just like $300 for a good t8 package on ebay with a couple mags and a mag pouch, ill be happy.

Also, i was only going to get 2 mags for the t8. then can be reloaded on the field, especially if you get the bolt from underground designs or whatever that lets you change the 12gram without a wrench.

idk....ive seen some armotechs on ebay for pretty cheap. i might just get one of those, and if im not really happy with it, ill get a tech 8 and sell the armotech

Underground Mod Shop.

I would say the Tac 8 can easily be used as a main. I would take the quick reload over any other type of gun. A few weekends ago, I emptied a mag on a guy, then ejected. He heard the escaping Co2, and came to bunker me, only to get nailed. Magazines make for lightning fast reloads. For scenarios, I carry 4 mags (one in gun) and 20 8 round tubes, plus the 12 grams necessary to shoot all that paint. Its a VERY light setup.

The thing about us pistol players is we are probably some of the most unique players out there. It takes a certain sort of crazy to take a pistol into battle against long guns. Especially when a lot of those long guns will easily shoot your guns entire capacity in less than a second.

The point is, every pistolero will probably want something a bit different. 10 shot is big on his Palmers, Smith does his thing with Zeus and Miltecs, and I love the feel of slamming a magazine into place in my Tiberius. Attempt to try them all out, and find out what works for you.

Ricin,
You're welcome to try all mine before you buy! There'll be other models out there to try that some of the other HS regulars like to see also, I'm starting to think that people really used to shooting the (to me) backward feed phantoms tend to like the USP. You're welcome to take my TAG8 for a spin anytime, too.
I will say that the one of the pistol primary player I respect the most, Dirtnap from the A5OG, uses two tag8s plus 6 mags. He'll put a serious bumrush on you!!!

Palmers can convert a Sheridan pistol or make a new version from scratch. The high cost of magazines(especially over the years) makes a convertible stroker really pretty competitive in price to a TAG8

I recently purchased a T8 after using one at a local field a few times. I liked the size of the grip because it made the front of the marker feel lighter and more maneuverable. I dont know that the magazines would be repurchased over the years. They are made out of very durable materials. Only thing that would wear would be the ano I think. Then again, the T8 hasnt been around for long enough for problems to arise that normally occur in the long term. Dirtnap might be one of the few that has changed enough mags to make the assessment as to whether or not the mags would "wear out" quickly.

I ended up getting a Zeus G1 on ebay. Actuallly, the auction was for 2 of them. Ill probably sell one. What good mods are out there for the zeus?

if im really happy with it, i might sell both and buy a WSP.

ricin - March 22, 2007 07:50 PM (GMT)
i would really like a palmers, but they are too expensive. if someone could find me one for like $400, i would be interested.

AgentSmith - March 22, 2007 11:17 PM (GMT)
Ebay is the place to watch, I've seen spring fed strokers go for $375 and $400, it may take years of watching though!

I always say that, IMO, the whole system-your pistol, holster, harness- is way more important than which pistol you use in particular. I've seen tough players with every brand, the big thing is smooth reloads and comfort with your setup, it takes time and dedication to get it right.

actually, ive got a couple people ive found on other forums with a mini squall for like $400. i might just splurge and get the squall though. it looks beautiful and badass which is exactly what i was looking for, ive heard that they preform amazingly, and to tell you the truth, even though i dont play alot and it might not be worth the money, ive never had a gun i was really, truly happy with. like, ive never really put out the extra money to get exactly what i want and always end up regretting it.

AgentSmith - March 23, 2007 01:30 AM (GMT)
Well, go for it! The whole idea of the thing is to make yourself happy, you certainly won't be sorry you got the gun you really wanted!

Like Robert Heinlein said "It's only the chances we don't take that we really regret!"

what are those mods you can do to a zeus? what do they do and how much do they cost?

also...do you need another one (or 2)?...cause i won that auction for two...but now i wish i hadnt.. lol

killbot - March 24, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
I have some questions for those with pgp strokers, is it really worth dishing 400usd out on upgrading? and does it have a detent system that deals with rollouts or is it just for double feeding?

_Butch_ - March 26, 2007 02:04 AM (GMT)
Ricin, you are more than welcome to try out my stroker pistol if you happen to be in the area. I may (I say may as things tend to always come up for some reason...) be playing at Killer indoor in Livonmia on Friday, though that is of course not set in stone.

Kill- I would not personally dish out $400 for one unless I found that money on the sidewalk. While it does not have a traditional detent system to prevent rollouts, it has what PPS calles wedgits, which are, basicslly dents. This works very well actually.
