How do I kill the monster towards the end of the game that is like a puppet with a long tail?

I cut it down using the boomarang but it lands and hitting it doesn't hurt it. Also tried attacking from the ledges but that doesn't work.

What is the tin couldron for jumping in it can protect you from the monster, but it must hav another use!
