Title: About Alternative Endings
Description: (I'm in love with Chrono Trigger :-)
fxar99 - April 16, 2005 05:32 PM (GMT)
Does anyone know which are the alternative endings in the SNES version? I saw some of them because I went to fight Lavos whenever possible.
And something else:
When the heroes go down the Ocean Palace and reach the Mammon Machine and Lavos, there's a battle (just before Crono's death). I couldn't defeat Lavos no matter what I did. Has anyone of you defeated Lavos at that moment? What happens then?
rpgfan3233 - April 16, 2005 06:24 PM (GMT)
You get the Developer Room ending (Ending #2 in this guide:
http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/snes/file/c...o_trigger_f.txt).
Crotus - April 16, 2005 07:41 PM (GMT)
Well one time I tried to beat him in new game+ but I still lost maybe you can't win that battle not even in God mode.
Magus5311 - April 16, 2005 08:15 PM (GMT)
Yes, you can win that battle, Crotus ^^
It's just hard. Impossible on a New Game, possible on New Game + but still hard.
You get the programmers ending, as RPGFan has already stated >.<

Wait a sec!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then what happens?!
Your sopposed to lose then what happens?! :ph43r:
rpgfan3233 - April 16, 2005 08:18 PM (GMT)
Yes, you can beat him.

Schala tells you that it won’t do any good. Then, all of a sudden, Lavos appears before you. He can’t be beaten here on your first play. I’ll try later if you can beat Lavos here after I reached around Level 90. After Lavos beats you, the prophet will reveal himself as Magus. He can’t do anything to Lavos also. Schala will try but will be stopped by her mother. Now, Lavos will try to kill all of you. (If you managed to defeat Lavos here, which I think, is the hardest Lavos ever, you’ll receive Ending #2) If you lose, after you regain control of Crono, head towards Lavos. Crono will be disintegrated. Lavos will then emerge out of the ground and destroy the entire Zeal Kingdom. All floating island will fall down to the ocean. |
Edit: You don't lose, Crotus. You actually beat him the same way you would attempt to beat any other boss.
GalaxyFalcon - April 16, 2005 08:59 PM (GMT)
The game will actually end, there at the ocean palace, and you will see the developers ending.

The New Game + doens't exist in the SNES version, right? So, it's unbeatable, right?
rpgfan3233 - April 16, 2005 10:06 PM (GMT)
I think CT was one of the first games, if not THE first game, that had a "New Game+" feature. The SNES release had a "New Game+" feature.
Crotus - April 16, 2005 10:11 PM (GMT)
Ya,unless pac man had one!
lol
WolfPack - April 17, 2005 12:12 AM (GMT)
Why wouldn't the SNES version have + ? lol. If you ask me, the SNES is better, no lag times, and you get to see it how it orginally was.
Bolshoi - April 17, 2005 02:42 AM (GMT)
I got the developer's ending there maybe the 3rd time I met him. It's also possible to face Lavos at the very beginning with just Chrono. Though I think you need to be a pretty high level for it. A friend of mine did it at 40 or some other seemingly impossible level. His secret...Confuse and Luminare. Confuse against one person because it doesn't cost nearly as much, Luminare against a group when convenient. (bring elixers, I'd imagine)
fxar99 - April 17, 2005 11:10 AM (GMT)
I haven't seen the New Game + Engine in the SNES version. ?
rpgfan3233 - April 17, 2005 02:40 PM (GMT)
Try playing the ENTIRE game through, fxar99. You have to complete all of the sidequests and go through the Black Omen, in addition to defeating Lavos. Check out
Mynock's Chrono Trigger Guide and search the page for "Save Slot 1"; look just above the "table" and read through that section. I'm sure that you'll probably find some way to bypass doing the sidequests (and everything else) by turning the New Game+ switch(es) on since you like to cheat. ;)

Mynocks CT guide is a really good one, thats the one i used.

Ya, that was killer perfect guide. Never missed a thing.

 I'm kind of amazed that people think it's impossible to beat Lavos at lvl 40... or even lvl 90? He's not THAT hard once you figure out how he works, is he?
GalaxyFalcon - April 25, 2005 09:16 PM (GMT)
No, just dont take Frog or Marle with you.
They'll kill your whole party, lol.
Crotus - April 25, 2005 09:17 PM (GMT)
I'd take Frog not Marle.

Red Vest/Red Mail = YAY. :)
Also, Ruby Vests are a big help, and they are much easier to obtain in larger quantities than one.

No, he's not.
I found him to be disappointingly easy when I finally got to him.
It was, nonetheless, an incredibly epic battle. :D
Actually, neither Marle nor Frog are bad party members in this fight.
Just be careful who you couple them with.
The biggest difference between CT and any other RPG is that your party is determined by combinations of characters -- not the individual characters.
I always like to fight this battle with my favorite party combo of Crono, Frog, and Robo. :)

GalaxyFalcon - April 26, 2005 12:43 AM (GMT)
I always liked Crono, Magus, and usually Robo, or Um..i usally used frog, just not with lavos. and i NEVER use Ayla or Lucca.
Crotus - April 26, 2005 01:38 AM (GMT)
Dude my party is always:Crono,Magus and Ayla and maybe some times frog.
GalaxyFalcon - April 27, 2005 04:58 AM (GMT)
lol, which thread was it in where we were joking around about crotus and marle, i cant find it...
Marcel - April 27, 2005 10:37 AM (GMT)
Well, I think you can easlily beat him with characters which have
- one powerful physical single-target attack (i.e. Ayla or Crono), to take out the left bit in one round eacht time, to avoid him healing himself and disabling your status-def.
- at least one all screen uber-tech person (i.e. Magus, Crono, Lucca or Robo, but I hate Robo ;) ), to attack both the central and the right bit simultaneously, killing off the central bit does save you a lot of his strongest attacks, although you should be focussing on the right bit (imao :))
- preferably a decent healer (i.e. frog or Marle). But if you're an item user more damage=better :)
Note that if you kill the right bit, you kill the entire Lavos.
So basically every character can be put to good use, but some combinations will be more useful than others off course, as Alezunde pointed out :)
ps. it's in the "Robo Ending, Cart Glitch" topic in ideas ;)
