Title: End of Black Omen
Description: Clones

ManaMaster - April 10, 2005 03:14 PM (GMT)
Here's a question o' mine. When you reach the end of the Black Omen, you see what I would call clones floating up and down in pillars of light. Anyone have any idea why they are there AND will the CTRP team add an extra boss battle in where we fight them before Zeal? If you did have to fight them, I wonder if you would set it up so that they had every attack that you can get, or if they would only have the attacks that you currently have.

Here's another, equally curious question:

Why is there no Magus clone in that room? He can join your party, too. There are clones of all the other controllable characters, even Crono--and depending upon when you choose to enter the Omen, he might not be in your party.

Mostly becouse he's not really your friend he's just going your way he says.

I can't remember, but doesn't Magus leave your party before the end of the Black Omen?

One thing I don't get is why Crono, Marle and Lucca appear as apparitions in the Dead Sea when they aren't dead yet. Another difference between Home World and Another World? If so, which one did they continue living in? Bugger...

I admit, I haven't seen this part of the game, brethren, but I was in a similar quandry I-self. In the '01 remake of CT with the opening anime cutscene, it shows a picture of all the characters, seen? But Magus isn't there. I would think this is because it is optional or not weather he joins you at all, whereas Crono, well, whether he's with you or not, he's the main character, seen? So the same may apply for this room you speak of in the Black Omen.

 Heh mana this question has been posed before, and the only answer we could come up with was that the developers just thought it looked cool. Its possible that these were the profiles given to Zeal by Magus while he was the prophet so she would know who the heritics were.

ManaMaster - April 11, 2005 04:02 AM (GMT)
Your answer pacifies me Knives. I'll assume that no, we won't have an extra fight. You may close this with your mighty powers if you'd like. :D

Now, hang on one second here. Something doesn't smell right about that theory that the clones are actually Magus's descriptions of the CT crew. For one thing, how would Magus know about Ayla? He never meets her officially until he joins your party. (That is, she joins you after you fight Magus in 600 AD, so he could not have had a chance to encounter her before becoming the Prophet.) All other encounters that you have with Magus while he's the Prophet can be done with any of the characters in your party. But if you don't use Ayla during any of those encounters, that image of her will still be in that room on the Black Omen. (I know this for a fact, as I have tested it out myself.)

So, what gives?

Knives101 - April 11, 2005 05:22 AM (GMT)
 Heh that was just a theory, like I said though the only solid answer we could come up with was that it the dev.s thought it looked cool. Probably look'n for some existenial feel or something. They may be clones, or just holographic images of the intruders in the base... maybe it had something to do with a prediction by lavos, a record or something from the past (prehistoric) telling of warriors from out of time.. who knows..

Or maybe it's just queen zeal screwing with everyone?

Just thought that'd be the simplest explanation...

K.K. Slayer - April 12, 2005 05:52 PM (GMT)
The answer is all up to you.

I say that Queen Zeal was making clones of everyone so that she could have her own little super team. Kinda like what bowser has with the other koopas. But they never got to be sent out or whatnot, because you destroyed the black omen.

That's because, theoretically, he met all the characters as Janus. Therefore, he would know about all of them when he became the prophet, and could tell Zeal. But I'd have to go with the 'it looked cool' idea, because they weren't in that room the first time you go in there while it's still at the bottom of the ocean. But then again, Zeal calls those clones a 'grim foreshadowing' or something, implying that she already beat you and now holds you captive, which could be possible, seeing how the Black Omen more or less exists outside of time.

I thought of that, too, so when I did my little test to see if Ayla's image would still be in the Omen even if Magus didn't see her, I made sure to also keep her out of my party whenever I encountered Janus. And once again, her sprite was still in that room, as an image/clone/whatever.

But again, that still doesn't make sense because there's no image of Magus there, even when he's on your team and in your active party.

I bet you there's some significance to the images, besides them just "looking cool". If they were a completely random addition to the Omen, why would the CT makers leave out Magus instead of including his image with the others? There must be some special reason why they chose to do this, a reason they weren't clear in explaining to us through the game. It's possible that in the Japanese version of the game, Zeal would tell you in full detail why those images were there. She'd probably mention it in passing during that talk you have with her just before the battle, or maybe after you beat the Mammon Machine.

...but because of space limitations on the English version of the cartridge, a lot of dialouge had to be cut (the guy who translated it, Ted Woolsey, said it was something like 50% of all the game's text), so we will probably never get to hear her explanation...unless the Chrono Compendium finishes its bigger, more detailed translation of the game. I cross my fingers and await that day with great anticipation.

:o The compendium is making a full translation of the game? Thats wiked. I can't wait, are they currently working on it? Or are they just planning to do this?
