Title: How do you play it when it's finished?
Description: Do you download it or what?

isak@mac.com - March 2, 2005 03:09 PM (GMT)
(I'm NOT good at english, but try to understand it anyway... :( )

Do you have to download it when it's playable...?

Because, if you have to, please don't make it just for PC, because there are people out there that drives Macintosh too... And Exe. files doesn't work on Mac...

Please, try to make them available for Mac...

Cutting from the FAQ:

2. What engine are you guys using?
We are using a free version of Unreal Engine 2.0, included with Unreal Tournament 2004. This means you will need UT2004 (or possibly 2003) in order to play CTRP when it comes out. Because of this, the minimum system requirements will reflect those of Unreal, which are: Pentium III 800, 256 MB Ram, 32 MB AGP Graphics Card, and Direct X 9.0b. However, due to how graphically intense some sections of the game may be, it may be quite difficult to run the game on the minimum settings. We can promise we will try our best.

--
That may mean that the mod may play back on any platform that has UT 2004 running on it, perhaps...

isak@mac.com - March 2, 2005 03:37 PM (GMT)
Thanks!

I just wondered...

/// Isak from Sweden... :rolleyes:

Galidan - March 2, 2005 03:44 PM (GMT)
I'm fairly certain that you'll need UT2k4.

/Galidan

GmMontex03 - March 4, 2005 08:16 AM (GMT)
Is it just going to be go out and buy the cheap version of UT2K4 or will we need to get a specific version? I mean, like an expansion along with the orriginal game or any aditional software to go along with it, or will it be just UT2K4 and downloading CTRP from the net?

WolfPack - March 7, 2005 03:17 AM (GMT)
Thats a good ? cause i'm gonna have to save forever to get it. And i'm getting it just to play CT.

Isak, from sweden eh? My great grandfather was from norway, and great grandmother from sweden. Infact I have their swedish bible :D

GalaxyFalcon - March 7, 2005 09:11 PM (GMT)
*waits impatietly for next site update*

WolfPack - March 9, 2005 07:23 AM (GMT)
What? Nothing to add about the swedish guy?

GmMontex03 - March 9, 2005 08:22 AM (GMT)
Guess not yet, give him a day or two.

WolfPack - March 9, 2005 10:20 PM (GMT)
Blah, Falcon probably won't be on tell the weekend. ~_~ Too busy playing sims and other junk *hack* *cough*

GmMontex03 - March 10, 2005 04:17 AM (GMT)
Im too busy with work half the time to keep up at night.

WolfPack - March 11, 2005 04:25 AM (GMT)
I got the same problem with school.

Magus5311 - March 24, 2005 01:39 AM (GMT)
Wait, so this will be in First Person?

GmMontex03 - March 24, 2005 09:16 AM (GMT)
That is a good question. UT2004 is 3d and all, but how are you going to mod it? Its 1st person. Most of the games I've seen have been still in first person.

Narles - March 24, 2005 04:35 PM (GMT)
The Unreal Annihilation mod (a mod that turns Unreal Tournament 2004 into a 3D version of Total Annihilation) uses a top view for building units, structures, etc. and then you can jump inside of a vehicle and then it turns into a first-person view. In other words, I've played this mod and it doesn't use the conventional first-person view that is normally associated with Unreal Tournament 2004 but instead uses an over-the-top view (almost identical to the view used in Chrono Trigger) that is better for an RTS game. So I'm pretty sure Unreal Tournament's engine can be used for views other than first person.

Magus5311 - March 24, 2005 04:43 PM (GMT)
Okey doke, thanks, sorta scared me for a second... I'm not too much for First Person genres... Although a First Person Chrono Trigger would be kinda cool. =]

I thought they'd be making there own engine (Using C++ or something) but this seems just as good... Another good idea woulda been the Morrowind engine...:P

rpgfan3233 - March 24, 2005 09:30 PM (GMT)
First person CT might be cool, but then you wouldn't get to see what the characters looked like in all their awesomeness that is 3D!

GmMontex03 - March 25, 2005 10:15 AM (GMT)
Narles, can you pm me the link for that mod? I'd like to try it.

WolfPack - March 26, 2005 03:11 AM (GMT)
Well, at least were pretty sure fps view won't happen....Would be intresting to be able to switch in and out of 1st and 3rd though.

fxar99 - April 10, 2005 06:20 PM (GMT)
That's a good idea! I know some games which I think that make use of an older Unreal Engine (Harry Potter, Lineage II) and they are third person. Lineage II can change to first person, too.

But how do you get it when it's finished? Perhaps you can divide it into archives, so that someone can download some each time they connect. (I HATE download managers, I don't trust them.)

But you say that we need UT2004 to play. I didn't quite catch that. You mean Unreal Tournament or Unreal Engine? From what I know, Unreal Tournament is programmed to be a first person shooter. This means, that it is a game, not a program that runs games. Let me see Xan walking at Zeal Kingdom and let me die after that!

Heyjohnny - April 13, 2005 12:16 AM (GMT)
Why are you guys so worried about it being in first person?! IT WON'T BE IN FIRST PERSON VIEW! You might be able to change from third to first, but if not....IT WILL BE IN THIRD PERSON. I've seen plenty of games made by the unreal engine (Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory anyone?) that are not in first person.

My second point is....You can change to third person view in UT2004 itself! :o simply push F4. This should be enough proof for you guys to stop worrying about this game being in first person.
*sits and hopes the next post won't be about first person view*

Knives - April 13, 2005 02:10 AM (GMT)
I think I need to invent a new acronym for CTRP: RTFFAQ.

What does it mean? Read the *bleep*ing FAQ. So...RTFFAQ

Knives101 - April 13, 2005 02:52 AM (GMT)
 maybe the FAQ should be accessible through all the threads... might help it get noticed better, not to many posts end up in the news area, heck I think 90% of the post are in the Town center.

zeekpunk - April 13, 2005 03:11 AM (GMT)
yes 1st person will be available in some areas and not in others most likely but it will be played primarily from 3rd person and fixed camera angles.

fxar99 - April 13, 2005 02:38 PM (GMT)
Whatever happens, I won't be able to play it because I simply won't be able to download it. So, I'll stay in the forum, which is very interesting itself and has made me think so much about Chrono Trigger. I can only wish that Square Enix won't try to get you... ;-)

Heyjohnny - April 13, 2005 09:04 PM (GMT)
Does anyone else hint of suspicion in that last reply...? Maybe not.

Anyways, could you give an example of when the game would be in first person view? Because sometimes, the story might be better when shown in first person. And how big is this download estimated to be? I'm not really worried right now because I still have 180 free gigs, I'm just wondering how long i'll be waiting for the download to complete. (I have cable)

Knives - April 13, 2005 10:31 PM (GMT)
These questions are all answered in the friggin FAQ...but since some of you seem to still not have looked yet, here's the stuff

FIRST-PERSON: This will be primarily used for just looking around. You will toggle it with a button and then move your view with the mouse. You cannot move in this mode.

DL SIZE: At least several hundred megabytes, but don't be surprised if it goes over 1 gig. This is a BIG game. Hopefully we can maybe put out a BitTorrent version as well. The demo will probably be under 100 megs.

Wiesty - April 14, 2005 01:43 PM (GMT)
isnt unreal tournament a first person shooter? why do we need that

Knives101 - April 14, 2005 02:17 PM (GMT)
 its being bast on its mod engine, its just easier that way, plus the game is cheap and a great online fps, its so good I actually have to question why most people don't already have it. To get more on this read the FAQ it explains ALL.

Heyjohnny - April 14, 2005 09:49 PM (GMT)
I think the FAQ should be able to be accessed at the top and bottom of the page. You know, like where the "« Next Oldest | Ideas | Next Newest »" things are. That might help out this site a little more.

No suspicion in my last post in this thread, whatever you mean :)

I just said I won't be able to download it because I have 56K PSTN (yippie!). I'm a little disappointed because I didn't expect it to be so many Gigabytes (the SNES ROM is only 5 MBs, lol)

rpgfan3233 - May 1, 2005 02:33 PM (GMT)
3D games are always big, fxar99. Just look at PSX ISOs! 50MB seems like the minimum! And PS2/Xbox games are stored on DVDs, which can hold 4.7GB (I think) on one side, so those are obviously large games. The point is that 3D games are on the larger side when talking about file sizes.

fxar99 - May 1, 2005 04:32 PM (GMT)
I know this, but I wasn't expecting so many GigaBytes since there are 3D games of size 700 MegaBytes.

rpgfan3233 - May 1, 2005 06:34 PM (GMT)
The game, including the editor, comes on a set of DVDs, I think. At least, that's what I've heard, so a huge mod to the game like this will almost certainly be just as large, unless the TEAM can create a program to unpack the compressed files when the game starts so the Unreal Engine can read the script. That'd take awhile though...

GalaxyFalcon - May 1, 2005 07:30 PM (GMT)
UT2004 is 7Gig's, and i think the MOD will be 2Gig's.

fxar99 - May 2, 2005 09:35 AM (GMT)
I have UT2004 on a DVD 4.7 GB

GalaxyFalcon - May 3, 2005 05:46 AM (GMT)
oh. ahaha..well....i dont own it..

Narles - May 4, 2005 05:39 AM (GMT)
Even though they can have UT2K4 on one DVD, after the installer runs, your Unreal Tournament file (on the Mac) or folder (on the PC) is around 7 GB.

DarkEternal - May 8, 2005 08:02 AM (GMT)
Well I'm sure (because I'm such a large Mac fan) that Mac will find a way around this little problem. WAIT! Yeah they would've had to because my church runs mac based and they played the demo of UT2K4.

WolfPack - May 21, 2005 05:23 AM (GMT)
We'll I think its safe to say that no one will be playing it now.......
