Title: Update: Magus Model!
TheBrain - January 21, 2004 07:21 PM (GMT)
Though it might seem a little update since the last one, mind that we choose to not show everything we got, even if some of us are more busy with other stuff right now we've been all working on the project.
Rob has been working hard to do this model, give your opinion about it!
It might need some minor tweeks, but i think it's great!

And Jack work on the Manoria Cathedral, those are still alpha shots...

Give your opinion and discuss here!
Dystopian Rhetoric - January 21, 2004 09:16 PM (GMT)
Its pretty good. A bit of a departure from the original, grey hair not blue, small red cape rather that large blue one, but still it looks pretty nice.
TheBrain - January 21, 2004 11:08 PM (GMT)
Don't worry, the blue cape is in the game also...
Nickdude - January 21, 2004 11:53 PM (GMT)
I think they are the best yet, and I'm really happy to know that the project is still moving smoothly (usually when I find something like this, the people stop making it). Keep up the good work!
Jack - January 22, 2004 01:46 AM (GMT)
I really like the magus, just a few editing changes and it will be good to go. Oh, and the mapping work is going well. Like it anyone? :P
Apocalypse - January 22, 2004 03:53 AM (GMT)
I like the model overall, it can use a little bit of tweaking... but it is definentally what I had been expected. It's good to see an update. There hasn't been one for a while.
There are many versions of Magus... some show him with a red cape, yet the original game itself shown him with a blue cape. Though, since this is a remake project... giving him a red cape is not a bad idea. In fact, I like it... it works quite well with his character.
The hair looks somewhat grey, but that is exactly what I had expected. Magus's hair was not a very strong shade of blue. It does not surprise me that others see it as grey... but it does in fact seem to have a tinge of light blue to it. The only problem I have with the hair is the fact that it seems just a little short, especially in the back view.
As for the statue, is say that's about as perfect as you will get it. good job B)
What place is that model supposed to be? It looks great (to say the least). It looks very nice... my guess is that it is from 600 A.D. ...which leads me to think that it might just be the cathedral since it has the familiar two staircases...
I like all of it alot, great job... very impressive. B)
bounty hunter - January 25, 2004 11:32 PM (GMT)
man, that's just awesome......i can't wait until this game is finished!
Knives101 - February 11, 2004 05:27 AM (GMT)
The stages look great, Rob is doing a great job, though in my opion I think that the magus needs a little work, I was hoping you guys would swerve to the realistic lane, I'm not nocking the model by any means its looks great. I was just hoping it would be a little more on the realistic side, 'course this is still the early stages and I might be expecting a bit much.... Strike every thing I said it all looks great I was just being a putz.
CritikalX - February 14, 2004 10:33 PM (GMT)
thats an awesome looking magus... but im sum dum with my ct havnt played in a while, whats the manoria cathedral
John - February 15, 2004 12:01 AM (GMT)
The Manoria Cathedral is what you go through to save Queen Leene. It's that part that you play
this little riff on the organ in the cathedral and you open a door. Ring any bells? Or better yet, it's the first part of the game that you play with Frog in your party.
Yeah.

CritikalX - February 15, 2004 12:14 AM (GMT)
yea thanks i realized that after i looked at the screens more, its that place with all those damn snakes lol
John - February 15, 2004 12:17 AM (GMT)
And bats. All they needed were robotic frogs and mosquitos and then they'd be all set.
-John
CritikalX - February 15, 2004 12:19 AM (GMT)
lol yea bats, and dont forgot those big fat goons
propagator4 - February 20, 2004 11:52 PM (GMT)
Honestly I think Magus might be a little on the short side, or too stocky.
The Cathedral is great, but all the environments I've seen are darker than I would have expected, making them look less like the original, and more like horror games such as Resident Evil.
Jack - February 21, 2004 02:09 AM (GMT)
Thats becacsue they haven't been lit yet :P
Those are 'working' lights, thay art ment to be in the final.
Validus - March 6, 2004 05:33 PM (GMT)
I still think they look good. Even with the working lights. lol :D
Chosker - March 12, 2004 04:01 PM (GMT)
personally I think the cathedral is great, although I think Magus isn't that good
now don't get me wrong the model is good, I just think it has quite some room for improvement
for example, the model is kinda blocky, and although it does resemble Magus, it needs to be more accurate (and needs an anime look), and the texture could use more quality
question for TheBrain17 (or anyone that knows), what's the polycount and texture size you're aiming at with these models?
Jack - March 18, 2004 11:19 PM (GMT)
Well, I've talked to rob alot and the modle will be revised, he will be made less blocky (a little thinner around the legs and chest, but still muscliar) so don't worry heh.
Oh and Thanks about the map, its one of the first Ive ever done for the unreal editor, so I assume the next one will be better.
WolfPack - March 20, 2004 07:05 AM (GMT)
Hey! all looks good. I'm not one to complain. It doesn't have to be perfect to be glorious. (although i do like magus's blue cape.)
GalaxyFalcon - March 20, 2004 07:32 PM (GMT)
Well i think the whole damn project is just to cool. Hell who cares if the models look a little off =P well...maybe if the looked REALLY bad id care but heh...=)
WolfPack - March 20, 2004 08:39 PM (GMT)
Ya, as long as it likes like magus, its fine. lol.
GalaxyFalcon - March 23, 2004 09:26 PM (GMT)
Well as long as he looks decent and clean, and he doesnt look visibly square, its good in my eyes.
WolfPack - March 27, 2004 10:57 PM (GMT)
Hey, speaking of square. Wanna throw in some hidden tribute to Squaresoft? Like thier logo hidden some where in the game?
GalaxyFalcon - March 27, 2004 11:18 PM (GMT)
Yeah, we should...=) only Squaresoft, not SquareEnix
WolfPack - March 28, 2004 02:08 AM (GMT)
Jack - March 28, 2004 03:03 AM (GMT)
A big brocken billboard on the Bike Race will say "Squaresoft" on it.
GalaxyFalcon - March 28, 2004 06:44 AM (GMT)
LOL Awsome. THats really cool.
camux - April 1, 2004 07:27 AM (GMT)
can the mapper give me some math as to what type of units he is using, better yet, give me an example map so i can get aquainted with the size and dimensions? or is it not that big of a deal? i'd hate to start something and have it look/feel crappy later on.
i've been thinking about scale and stuff, what kind of coding is being done right now? out of the box ut2003/4 uses a Fish Eye Lens that makes the player FOV extremelely distorted. you will have a lot of work cut out for you to get things looking right. also if anyone needs help with the editor the wiki has a lot of great collision stuff. www.wiki.beyondunreal.com

So he will be made to look sleeker? The only problem I had with the model is that to me he looked more like a dwarf (no offense intended towards the artist), and less like a pseudo-deity, which is what he resembled in the game.
Jack - April 10, 2004 06:25 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I think Rob will work with it and make it better.
firestarterut - July 11, 2004 10:25 PM (GMT)
Damn that looks really good
TheBrain - July 11, 2004 11:24 PM (GMT)
The model will be updated in the future though.
Tidaldreams - August 7, 2004 06:54 PM (GMT)
I hope we'll be able to see Marle's and Lucca's models too !
Bedryn - August 7, 2004 10:09 PM (GMT)
I don't know why so many people are criticizing the magus model. It is way better than I could ever do. I think it looks great. Is it animated at all yet? What sort of animations are you guys planning on making? Are you going to do all those dumb ones from the original chrono trigger where you could dance in that one place at the fair? I never really understood those...
TheBrain - August 7, 2004 10:59 PM (GMT)
Every CT animation will be in the game, probably some extra for the cutscenes.
NrG - August 7, 2004 11:32 PM (GMT)
Not bad, these shots are better then what I thought you guies would do.
Snowy - August 12, 2004 09:39 PM (GMT)
A-mazing! :o the art is much better than I thought. I think it might be a problem to make the characters in combat blend well with their effects - hence Magus, when fighting the party or dueling Frog [if so you choose] for exemple, might not really swing his scythe in a cool way and woosh the way into frog, slicing him. But if you managed to model him as good as THIS, and it's not the final version - I'm sure you'll make the battles outsandingly amazing.
Now for the Frog model :D
Knives - August 13, 2004 08:36 PM (GMT)
You think that's good? Wait til you see some stuff we have in the works :D
VicksCornatto - August 17, 2004 05:47 PM (GMT)
I just have to say the map looks great, however, that is like 0.001 percent of the maps your going to have to create... good luck everyone :) maybe one day I'll learn some of this stuff, and show you guys how its done (unlikly)
On that note... the only thing I have for magus is to realize that magus is Zeal matirial... blue/purple hair, royal colors, ect. He's not supose to be a count dracula clone. You get the idea... but over all... holy cow (*not the original word I used) , this looks nice! I can't wait to see if this works out!
Knives - August 17, 2004 07:57 PM (GMT)
Manoria Cathedral will be redone. The original map was done back in the early days when Jack didn't know that using insane amounts of BSP drove up load times. Besides, he has gotten A LOT better since then, so the map will now reflect his newfound skills.
