Title: [FORUM Rules] - Clean it up...
Description: Start
Chuckles - November 10, 2004 01:17 AM (GMT)
From now on, you guys are going to start cleaning it up. Don't insult other users. Don't say or do stupid stuff that will probably make other people start insulting you, unless it's in a debate thread, then only say your point of view, don't just say "OMG THEY AER TEH SUCK!!11!1111!!!!!shift+1!!!!"
Do not post porn. Simple...
Do not post links to illegal content, such as ripped songs, and ROMs. Simple... KNIVES EDIT: I've noticed some people requesting these too. Also a no no.
Watch your language. If you type a word and it gets filtered out, don't go back and change it a little so it doesnt get filtered.
*example*
If you type the word spam, and it gets filtered, do not go back and go s p a m, or sp4m, or s*p*a*m*... Brain has it filtered for a reason, don't undermine him and post something he doesn't want posted anyways...
*edit* I noticed some people saying some words shouldn't be blocked, such as a slang word for homosexual. Honestly, how many times in a conversation do you see that word used in the true definition? If you want to use it, just say joyous, or happy, you don't have to use that word. And the thing is, people here have been using it negatively already, so that really doesn't show us that it will be sed properly if it isn't banned. If anyone must know, the word starts with "g".
There is a report button. Use it. If it is offending you, hit the dang button, don't insult the poster. Don't worry, if it is just a bad word or something, we will probably edit it. If it is links to anything illegal, we will delete the link. If it is insultingy ou personally, it will be deleted.
Do not impersonate other users. We can tell. We can view everyone's IP who posts.
(Yes, this has happened...)
These are simple rules. Follow them. It SHOULD be common sense, but if it isn't, then take the extra step.
And if you want to joke around, go for it, but if you insult anyone in the joking, make sure you give some hint of sarcasm, beign that typed text isn't the best way to express emotion. Use a :P , or something...

Great idea Chuckles, I was starting to wonder if this forum might go flaming down in chaos like so many others I have been too. Thankyou for your insight I think a posted thread like this might just be what the forum needed :) ........
Cheers,
Vash :)

Theories ofcourse. lol.
Apocalypse - November 21, 2004 01:43 AM (GMT)
Not a bad idea, though I didn't think we'd ever end up actually needing one of these...
WolfPack - November 27, 2004 03:31 AM (GMT)
I don't "we" the regulars need em, i think its more the the posters who make 2 or 3 posts and flame everyone.
Dark Hat - November 27, 2004 03:55 AM (GMT)
Rock on. I love no spamming.. wait.. I think I might spam a lot. I've never figured out why spam (you know what word I mean) I blocked, but it's your decission, so ok.
Chuckles - November 27, 2004 03:25 PM (GMT)
If it's the word that starts with a G, I think it's blocked for one reason. Exactly how many times in a discussion about games, Square-Enix, or other people, does it come up in a friendly way?
Knives - November 27, 2004 05:34 PM (GMT)
What chuckles is trying to say here is that the "g" word is not properly used in sentences like "OMG my computer is acting so SPAM" or "that movie was SPAM." It is properly used to reference someone who is homosexual or happy, and guess which one we use it for the most.
relmatos - November 27, 2004 06:44 PM (GMT)
I really dont see the problem with using those words. They exist <--> they are meant to be used. What's the problem with saying "that movie was SPAM" it's the best word you find to talk about the movie. is it hurting anyone? is it offensive to anyone? no. Only the movie can feel offended and if the movie feels offended let it come and say it for itself.
Chuckles - November 28, 2004 04:58 AM (GMT)
You are using the g-word as a synonym for bad, or horrible. If g-word=bad, then what does that say to a homosexual?
WolfPack - November 28, 2004 07:40 AM (GMT)
Find a better word to describe yourself, or change.
Vash72 - November 28, 2004 03:25 PM (GMT)
Why must people continue to use a word describing a "same-sex sexual orientation" as an adjective for anything they dislike. It's hurtful to use this word when relating to anything you dislike to many people, so why do it? If you dislike something there are hundreds of other, less discriminatory and more specific phrases that can be used. Have you ever been discriminated against guys? How did that make you feel? Have you ever had someone talk about you negatively? How did that make you feel? I see no reason why people must continue to use the "g" word in order to describe something they think is "bad". I have friends who are homosexuals, who I love for who they are. These friends are probably some of the nicest, kindest people I know, I respect them. It upsets me to see people using the "g" word in a derogratry way Relmatos.
Cheers,
Vash
Chuckles - November 28, 2004 04:57 PM (GMT)
Why should they have to change? They should have to change because you can't expand your vocabulary and find a new word for something you dislike? What you're doing is changing the english language, and in turn, using that as an excuse to tell people to change how other people describe them. Maybe you should learn to use the english language, and then nobody would have to change anything at all, and you would learn a few new words, such as saying that movie "is bad", or "sucked", instead of insulting an entire demographic.
WolfPack - November 28, 2004 05:51 PM (GMT)
Yo, i'm not trying to flame g's here, just saying what i thought. Before it became used in its modern use, it use to mean happy. Then it got adopted into wha it means now, and now some people are starting to use it as meaning sucky. So its not like its the first time a word has changed meaning.
Chuckles - November 28, 2004 07:22 PM (GMT)
It only changed meaning because people were using to be dergatory. When a word is now derogatory in nature, should we be throwing it around? And besides, Brain made it not allowed, so even if it's not right, we should still follow the rule as a sign of faith (faith in the fact that Brain did it for a reason, and not for some random reason just to be mean).
relmatos - November 29, 2004 10:02 PM (GMT)
should happiness be hurt cos they started using that word to refer to homossexuals?
All the homossexuals I know have no problem with the word SPAM. They use it themselves to refer to things they dont like and also to refer to their homossexuality. I have nothing against homossexuality and when I use the g wordor other words with that meaning, I dont use it in the homossexual meaning. I just use it as a word that means something bad. When I tell someone F*** you I aint telling them to go have sex with themselves. Im just telling them to go away. It doesnt matter to me if they have sex with themselves or not.
What matters is the meaning you give to the words. If I turned to a homossexual and I said "You f***ing g**" it'd be something wrong to do.
Let words exist. The best thing in the english language is it's variety and one of the best examples for it is the f word.
Chuckles - November 29, 2004 10:32 PM (GMT)
Happiness isn't being hurt here. When you say, "That game is g**", or, "You're g**, get away from me." I highly doubt you are saying that it is happy. It's not that the word g** is offensive to homosexuals, it's that when you use it as a derogatory term to describe something, it BECOMES offensive to homosexuals.
relmatos - November 29, 2004 10:48 PM (GMT)
it doesnt cos I dont intend it to be and anyone who knows english sees it. Im insulting the game or the person. not the homossexuals.
If you were all portuguese I could show you a sketch which would explain it all. unfortunately that cant happen.
Obviously anyone can feel offended with anything.
I could feel offended cos I cant say that I'm g-. cos everyone would think I was a homossexual instead of being happy. That's the problem with communication. we can take the meanings we want to.
But that's a good reason to use our brains. To distinguish when we are being hurtful to someone or not.
WolfPack - November 29, 2004 11:12 PM (GMT)
Relmatos has a point there. People just use the G-word now just like everyone started to use the "oh my g*d" phrase a decade ago.
Chuckles - November 29, 2004 11:23 PM (GMT)
Let's end this right here. When you use g** in a bad way, you are being immature, because being g** is not bad. Since nobody on this dang board uses g** the way it is supposed to be used, we just decided to save the hassle and ban the word. If you can't find a new, more appropriate word to describe your disliking for soeone, then shut up, and don't post. If you feel that the restriction of the word g** is hindering your ability to post on a message board, you obviously have the vocabulary of a five year old, and don't deserve to post. It is banned, deal with it. If you can't deal with it, don't post. Simple. As. That. In every time I have had to edit someone's post for using the word g**, it has been used innapropriately.
relmatos - November 29, 2004 11:36 PM (GMT)
now that's just being a bit childish but ok.
my point was made already. words have different meanings by the way u use it.
and now I'll say. Lotr is flatulence. I hope I aint insulting all the flatulences in the world.
Chuckles - November 29, 2004 11:49 PM (GMT)
You're right, words do have different meanings based on the way you use them, and I have already defended our decision by explaining to you that everytime I have seen it used in regular discussion in most places, it is used in a negative way. What more do you want me to say about it? If everyone would act a little more maturely and stop using a word that is just a word as if it were a bad thing, we wouln't be having this discussion. When that happens, email us, and we may change the decision. Until then, don't complain to us because we ban a word that is being used innaproprietly.
If you want to email us, you can do it at itwillprobablyneverhappen@yahoo.com
TheBrain - November 30, 2004 12:09 AM (GMT)
You both are acting 'BADONG' so it's better stop.
This is the Forum rules and it's not to be used to give your personal insight about movies or why the g** word is not used correctly to refer about happy things.

Ofcourse words do not hurt physically people, but can hurt physically this boards if we don't comply to Invision (our forum host) rules, so, please follow the Forum Rules as intended.

| The Chosen One: Killing is wrong. And bad. There should be a new, stronger word for killing. Like badwrong, or badong. Yes, killing is badong. From this moment, I will stand for the opposite of killing: gnodab. |
Chuckles - November 30, 2004 12:13 AM (GMT)
Lol Brain, Ya, I did kinda go off. I apologize if I offended anyone. I was just trying to say that it isn't really necessary to use certain words. Especially if you are going to use them innaproprietly and complain when we say that you can't use them because you were using them innaproprietly.
Yes, what is important is that whether the rules be right or wrong, we have to follow them, because if we don't, we could get into trouble.
