Title: Sound Design
Description: is a fancy word for SFX

John - April 1, 2004 08:24 AM (GMT)
Alright, I'm trying my hand at sound design.

Each one of these clips contains a handful of different clips, altered and then merged together.

As usual, feedback would be appreciated. If the quality sucks the big one, then I'm sorry. I'm using my practice amp as my speakers and I'm relying more on the waveform than on the actual sound itself.

Here they are:

Monster 1

Monster 2

Monster 3 (I like this one. It's a cat and a dog reversed and put together).

I have a few more, but they're worse than these.

bye now. 7 AM class tomorrow.

Would anyone like to do the SFX? I really have no clue as to what I am doing...

I'd say the last one is the best, actually. Though, I can see where SFX can be a problem... it isn't exactly your field John; the team will need a separate person for SFX. Unfortunately, I am not that person... as I don't have experience with SFX...

I am also a frequent visitor of another forum, where I think there may be some good SFX people. Their server is down right now, but I will go and ask for some links as well as possibly recruit some people.

 I honestly like the first one, it would be a cool background sound for the magic caves behind mechliors place.

Though Apoc is right the 3rd one is the best big monster sound.. perhaps the The T-Rex scream.

no! I like the t-rex sound ;p

Nice, they are a little fuzzy though.
Maybe try filtering out some noise, eh?

Other then that, yup that R-Rex noise is pretty kewl

I like all of those John, especially the last one.

I'd like to help here. I'm not an SFX expert, so by all means keep recruiting, but some friends and I have used a lot of SFX software and I think we could get some good high-quality sounds (but definitely not all of them at this point) for at least some parts of the game. I assume we'll have bg music too? And will there be ambient noise as well?

John,
For your first time at sound design I must say I'm quite impressed. The quality of the clips themselves was'nt too bad but there seem to be a bit of static / fuzziness about your clips probably due to your equipment. I'm no expert at all though.

Roar 1 - did'nt really strike me as a roar, perhaps a beasts moan echoing through a cave though

Roar 2 - This seems too short; and also seems to not be as good quality as the other two clips.

Roar 3 - Definately the best of the three clips, definately could be used maybe no for t-rex but for some smaller vicious dinosaur.......... Just needs to be a little better in quality and with less static ...........

Again John I love your music as I said in another thread I have not ever heard better remixes of Yasunori Mitsuda's score to date .......... I also no nothing of Sound Effects ........... How to create them or otherwise ........

So I don't know if my opionion should be given on this matter, but I hope it helps some...................
