Title: Concept pictures
Description: Sketches for the modelers to use.

Validus - March 30, 2004 08:59 PM (GMT)
I just thought I should start posting on a specific thread for my sketches, so I can get some feedback from all of you. I know Emanuel has a thread too, so it doesnt really matter, whoever has work for the project, you can put it here to get some feedback.

Just go through my site, Here to view the pictures.

Apocalypse - March 31, 2004 12:02 AM (GMT)
Not much else to say other than "I like it". Good job. B)

Jack - March 31, 2004 12:29 AM (GMT)
Very nice!

Knives - March 31, 2004 12:44 AM (GMT)
Very nice job, Validus! I'm glad we have you on the team!

Validus - March 31, 2004 01:32 AM (GMT)
Do you guys think it looks accurate enough to the sprite though? Should the head be a little smaller or/and should it have less of a neck? Or am I just being a Perfectionist?

Knives - March 31, 2004 01:43 AM (GMT)
I think it isn't perfect (it's close, but I am very detail-oriented), but as this is a remake it shouldn't really be exact. In that regard it is very well done.

Validus - April 6, 2004 09:23 PM (GMT)
Ok, three new things. First I updated my webpage, so it looks a little less pathetic now. Second I added a new monster sketch "Acid". Third, I have added the monster sprites next to the names in the sketches instead of posting the sprites here (incase the site they are linked to, goes down).

As always comments, questions, concerns and suggestions are all welcome here, Thanks.

Oh and also, the people that are actually modeling, what do you think? Are these helpful at all? What could I do to be more helpful?

Validus' Concept Art

Alezunde - April 6, 2004 10:53 PM (GMT)
Oooh - I like these all very much.
I'll give you critiques/comments on each:

Crono - Lovin' it. More DBZ-ish though.
Magus - I like the way his hair flows. His armor is nicely detailed. Again, more DBZ-ish.
Marle - More DBZ-ish. I love the details on her outfit: her sandals and her belt especially.
*Note: I know these simply reflect your style. Don't sweat the DBZ issue. It's just a comment.

Byte - Beautiful detail. A bit different from what I see in my mind when I look at the sprite, but you won't get any complaints from me.
Amphibite - Make this little guy fatter, more round, and I'd say you have it made. (Think the same as the sprite, just higher-res.)
Acid - I think it's texture is a little too lumpy, not liquidy enough. That's my only complaint. I have to say I love the face and the horn-thingies.

Well, I hope none of these critiques were too harsh. I just wanted to skip the pleasantries and say exactly what I thought. You have awesome art happenin' here though. I think the modellers will love you for this.

-Alezunde

Validus - April 7, 2004 07:06 PM (GMT)
I really do appreciate your criticism, and I plan to redo the slime/frog pretty soon. I will keep the original drawings I did so you can compare.

Oh yea, I too thought that the slime did look a little lumpy and I plan to fix that.

Thanks again! Keep it coming!

Validus - April 7, 2004 07:12 PM (GMT)
Also, I am not sure if I am doing character sketches for the project or not, so I probably will only redo, or do more character sketches, if I have extra time.

Chuckles - April 7, 2004 10:32 PM (GMT)
Nice. I think they are almost perfect, but I do agree that the frog thing does need to be a little fatter, but not too much. Good job all the same.

Knives - April 8, 2004 12:08 PM (GMT)
Personally, I like Validus' style much more than that of Akira Toriyama, but then again I don't like DBZ either...

Apocalypse - April 8, 2004 09:18 PM (GMT)
I do like both styles, but it really has to look like Akira's artwork (at least some-what) since that was what Chrono Trigger was modeled after. Don't get me wrong... you have every right to introduce your own works... but I think it will have to look similar to Akira's in order to keep that old Chrono Trigger feel...

Drakken - April 11, 2004 02:44 AM (GMT)
Those look really nice! Great work. :)

Validus - April 22, 2004 03:27 AM (GMT)
Sorry for the lack of updates, but I have been really busy lately. I hope to really start working on these pictures once my school work load diminishes.

Validus - April 29, 2004 11:20 PM (GMT)
Ok, a little update. I re-did the Acid picture, but I think it almost looks like sand or something now lol. Also I tried a cavebat but it looks really rough.

Validus - April 30, 2004 02:43 AM (GMT)
Wow another update on the same day. I added a concept model sketch of Crono, which contains a front, side and back view to help the modelers. As always any input is welcome. Also I plan to redo all the sketches in that same format.

John - April 30, 2004 03:06 AM (GMT)
Lookin' GREAT!
As always.

I like the cavebat's eyes.

-John

Knives - April 30, 2004 12:12 PM (GMT)
God Validus, I'm glad we have you on the team. Your art is simply awesome. Keep up the good work.

zentho - April 30, 2004 05:42 PM (GMT)
very impressive!

Validus - April 30, 2004 07:04 PM (GMT)
Thanks.

Is that format more helpful though for you modelers out there, or is there some other setup that you would prefer?

Validus - May 1, 2004 01:53 PM (GMT)
Ok, another update since I have had some extra free time lately. I drew up Lucca and Ayla in the same format as the Crono picture. I think Lucca turned out as the better of the two pictures though.

Apocalypse - May 1, 2004 03:19 PM (GMT)
Hmmm... I like what you've done for the models. They all look VERY accurate, I hate to say it, but you actually surprised me a little bit with your skill. I like how you drew everyone. There is only one problem, Crono looks a little too stocky. He looks shorter than Lucca. If anything, he should at least be her height. It isn't necessary to do though... it might just be fine the way it is. Your choice, really. ;)

Good work, and may your future works be of equal or greater coolness! B)

GalaxyFalcon - May 1, 2004 10:57 PM (GMT)
We really have a lot of talent here on this project. If i had only improved my own artisitc abilites i could have probablly helped. But whether its a programer, or a mapper, or a moddler, there is talent here.

lol. Just as I was scanning it I noticed that he did look a little short/stocky. Not sure what I will do, maybe I will try to slim him up a bit or something.

Thanks for the comments!

Alezunde - May 3, 2004 03:24 AM (GMT)
These are looking pretty nice.
I like the new version of the Acid much better.
The Cave Bat looks great too! ^_^
Your people look good - my only complaint would be that they could use some fine-tuning with the anatomy.

Great job Validus!

Which parts need fine tuning? Arm lenth, proportion etc?
I would be glad to fix them if you could narrow what part or aspect of the anatomy could use some work.

Thanks for the help.

Alezunde - May 4, 2004 04:40 AM (GMT)
My main complaint is how the muscles are drawn and shaped.
Understandably, they are one of the trickier parts of the human figure.
What you have here isn't bad by any means - it's only a few spots they look odd.
I wasn't able to find good reference to link you to on the internet, but it might help to find a book for artists concerning human anatomy.
I'm trying to find one myself.
Don't take my critiques too negatively - what you have here is great - I'm just nit-picking and telling you exactly what I see.

On another point - it would help a lot if you could sketch some close-ups of the faces, Akira Toriyama style. (Front and side especially)

I can't wait to see more of these!

-Alezunde

Apocalypse - May 4, 2004 10:18 PM (GMT)
I don't think the muscle structure is a problem. This looks pretty similar to Akira Toriyama's style; so you'd have to give him a lesson on anatomy. Keep in mind; though the models should look human-like, they shouldn't be completely realistic. If it were truly realisitic; the game may lose some of it's originality. :ph43r:

...then again, that's just my opinion on the subject. All I think is wrong is the "stockiness" of Crono/ Other than that, all seems well. ;)

Alezunde - May 5, 2004 12:24 AM (GMT)
Lol - after watching DBZ - I'm pretty sure Akira Toriyama knew how to draw muscles.

On one of Validus' sketches of Crono's back, his right arm looks backwards because of how the muscles are drawn.

-Alezunde

Validus - May 5, 2004 02:11 AM (GMT)
Ah, I see which arm you mean now. Ok I will fix that then, when I get around to it.
And I will start a sketch of Crono's head then, up close with more of a clean look to it.

-Also earlier in this thread I was going to re-draw the amphibite, but now I think I am going to wait and just redraw him in this new format.

Knives101 - May 5, 2004 03:43 AM (GMT)
 Cool Lucca and ayla. Moocho kudos man. Though I think their right chrono does seem a little shorter.

SSJoseph - May 5, 2004 04:51 AM (GMT)
I think you used your monthly bandwidth :(
E-Mail me, and I will host your images from now on...along with A nice clean template.
(I will even do the HTML coding for you to so you don't have to learn to read my coding)

By the way
Tommorow (May 5th) at about 8:00 PM, I have A little suprise for the Chrono Trigger RP, and the unveiling of my sites template.

Now you guys can see one of my good skills :D

Validus - May 5, 2004 10:49 PM (GMT)
No I don't think I used up my monthly bandwidth, it seems to be working fine, anyone else having trouble viewing it?

Which host are you going to be using SSJoseph?

Also on the new site is everything going to be on it or will we still have individual pages?

SSJoseph - May 5, 2004 11:40 PM (GMT)
Everything will be on one.
The Site, the Forum, Your Files, And if the brain gives me admin access for A few minutes (When he is ready to transfer the site) I can back-up all you user-names, post, forums, etc.

EDIT: also, I am stuck in an error with my coding...I think I have to delay the release for my site.
So tommorow I should have my site up...well not the whole site.
Just the template, the home page, and now 2 suprises for the CTRP.

SuperDK - May 8, 2004 12:32 PM (GMT)
...so anyone can draw stuff and put it on this thread? Cause I'd would if anyone would like...maybe...

SSJoseph - May 8, 2004 04:01 PM (GMT)
well, actually there are concept pics right here

and soon to be at my site.
Should do it sometime today, or tommorow.

Validus - May 10, 2004 01:09 AM (GMT)
You can put links to your work if you want, or you can post in "Join the Team" if you want to join the project in this area.

Validus - May 10, 2004 01:34 AM (GMT)
Ok well, I tried changing the picture of Crono a little, to make him look less stocky. It doesn't really seem to be working though, I mean it looks a little better but now his arms look to short lol. Tell me what you think. The upadte is under Crono concept 2.

If anything I think his arms look more proportional in the second drawing, and his height is more realistic as well.
