Title: Romancing SaGa Remake

I just saw this advertisement in the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly. I don't know whether to be excited or enraged by it.

On the one hand, I loved the Romancing SaGa series on the SNES, and a 3-D remake of it is a dream come true. But on the other hand, I keep thinking, They're remaking THIS and not Chrono Trigger? ARGH! :(

 I played it on the pc. I liked it but I never finished it... kinda forgot about it.

Picture won't work for me -.-

Still sickening... Never played it though.

I try to forget about Chrono Trigger because everytime I remember it, I remember there will never be a remake, which I mostly blame Enix for. I think Square Soft might have tried to please there fans...

But enough flaming on that :P

If you have time, I'd love to see the pic, since it won't load. Sounds cool enough.

Don't worry Magus, we'll get a remake if the Petition has anything to say about it. ;)

Here's a link to the picture. If it still doesn't show up in your web browser, right-click the link and choose "Save Target As..." to save it onto your computer. And if you want to see a full-size version of the image, let me know and I'll e-mail it to you.

You know what's even worse? The original Romancing SaGa series was never released outside Japan. That means that the only non-Japanese people who were able to play the games were those unsavory types who illegally obtained ROMs and English translation patches of the games (I'm looking at you, K101 :P). S-E is remaking this series when the majority of U.S. and European gamers haven't played it or even heard of it yet, which means the game doesn't already have a large existing fan base like Chrono Trigger does. Therefore, Square-Enix isn't creating the remake due to popular demand -- they're creating it in a cheap bid to gain more customers, and thus more money. Meanwhile, they'll claim they're creating the remake to "give gamers in other countries a chance to enjoy the series in the way the Japanese have". And they'll say this with a straight face.

It's definitely a winning business strategy -- attracting new customers in new areas by revamping an old product -- and it is by no means limited to Square-Enix alone (Nintendo did the same thing with the Fire Emblem series and a lot of their Super Nintendo games, re-releasing them for the Game Boy Advance), but the fact that Square-Enix is trying it with this series and not Chrono Trigger (which already has a vast, extensive fan base that would be more than happy to buy a remake), is bizarre at best and moronic at worst.

Nonetheless, I'm probably going to play the heck out of this remake when it does come out, if only because I'm one of those lucky few U.S. residents whom have experienced the original Japanese SaGa games in all their glory.

EDIT: Oops, sorry for ranting. I got a little carried away there. :P
