Title: Copyright

ChronoBlack - May 26, 2005 07:57 PM (GMT)
I see there is no page to put in questions. Or I lack to search around.
But how far is this Chrono Trigger copyrighted?
Is it true that you guys did cancel everything?
If so, I mean if you can't be able to make CTRP then are you still able to use the whole ideal. I mean not the characters or story line. But wouldn't you still be able to just keep everything you created modify it. And attempt to make a totally different game of your own? Or did Square have you scrap everything?

If they did that...it wouldn't be CTRP..it would be "another game"

ChronoBlack - May 26, 2005 08:14 PM (GMT)
Yes it would be another game. But, I mean, couldn't they do something Similar. I would still play it none-the-less. I have no doubt that the game would be fun. If they can make it anything close to or related to Chrono Trigger.

Maybe something like, uhh, I'll make this from the top of my head. In Chrono Cross, there are those Parrellel universe. Just have Magus life or the "crews" life in the parrellel universe.

Or something tottally un related and make a third >< (If to push it)

But I mean I would rather have them make something unrelated then have them throw everything they created away.

Entirely.

ChronoBlack - May 27, 2005 04:13 AM (GMT)
So you can't even use Magus in a ..counter strike game?

Considering how anal SE has demonstrated itself to be about these things, probably not.

ROFL

or you can make a chrono model and call him ronoch, or noroch

Apocalypse - May 29, 2005 07:05 PM (GMT)
Hmmm... the character design would have to be at least SLIGHTLY different. In other words... if it were Magus, he'd have to look a little different. Give him a few rings, a tatoo of a demon on his shoulder, and there you go. The name couldn't be the same. Also... you probably couldn't use any quotes from the character in the game. I'm not certain on this, but even the personality might need to be changed a bit. Magus might have to be all "happy" and constantly go running after people in attempts to hug them...

...eww...

Ok... maybe not going that far. It IS possible to alter the characters, make them look a little different... have different names, and of course... have different "quotes". Otherwise though... I think that is a pretty SAFE idea. The characters would no longer be the S-E copyrighted characters, and thus... would be very much able to be used in a seperate game.

...of course, this is all presuming the Team intends to do that.

In my opinion, they should "recycle" some of the maps, the SFX, a few enemys, and the items. I don't think they should use the same character models... as that it risky. The best bet is to either make entirely new characters, or just make a bunch of edits to the current characters... and maybe add or subtract a few of them in the process.

They should make Earthbound 3D!
What a great idea, eh?

I mean better than nothing.

ROTFL.

:P Can you imagine Magus acting all fruity like that? "Frog, you look positively dashing in that cape of yours! You simply must tell me the name of your tailor!"

Or even worse...Magus acting like Marle? "Tee-hee-hee! Oh Cyrus, you're so silly! Let's not fight--we could go share the latest gossip over some tea and biscuits!"

...Ugh, I just gave myself the creeps.

I believe they were going to make an Earthbound sequel in 3D. Don't know what happened to it though.

Yeah, it was being developed for the N64 looong ago and disappeared like many other games

It got cancled half way.
But they are making Mother 3 (Earthbound 2) for like GBA or something similar.
Anyways, I think they are hot enought that they should make Earthbound Remake Project ;)
