Title: console mods?
FreeLancer - June 15, 2003 08:47 AM (GMT)
do you think such a thing will come out?
like for example, halo 2 comes out, and after awhile people makes a "Natural Selection" type mod for it and you can d/l into your xbox harddrive? or stuff like this for any kinda games for any kinda system?

I don't think anything like that would happen...maybe fun...but not profitable...possibly something similar might happen, such as add-ons/additional features later on..
Like a lot of other stuff on the internet you can download for free, legally or not...

add ons and additional features has already begun!
splinter cell anyone? new maps, new weapons, new skins...
but i mean a actual mod...to add on a game
chikichicky - June 16, 2003 06:25 AM (GMT)
any thing else though? That's only one

MechAssault
Ghost Recon
Unreal Championship
Whacked
MidNite Club 2
anything thats online compatiable has add ons for that game

ahhh...so well we'll just have to see wht else they can have...b/c from the looks of it...that's as far as it'll go...but an entirely new concept might be introduced to online consoles. Ya never know...

trust me icy you dont want to play gun survivor....its not worth your time. Time crisis 3 and FFX2 are a different story though :yessir:
For now modification of console games, as gamers have done with HL and Unreal Tournament, isnt a real possibility for now. Developers for consoles arent as inclined to release editors and the programming tools they use to create the game and levels as they are for PC games. Its a different trend all together. Thanks to the success and popularity of editing tools for games like HL, Starcraft, and Neverwinter Nights its all but encouraged for PC developers to release editting tools along with the game to increase the fan base and longetivity of the game. As far as console games are concerned it really has never caught on, and it would take developers a much longer time to make a comfortable and effective user tools that would work well on console, but such a thing would be too costly and time consuming. In the future prehaps if the situation becomes easier and more accessable for consumers to use..then eventually someone will pickup on the idea, but not for now. Games like Halo will make their millions because of the hype surronding its great graphics, multiplayer options, and story. Though the idea that you could modify Halo would get gamers interested, until it becomes more of a neccessity they wont try it.
About 5 years ago for the Sega Saturn they released a public version of the Saturn development tool kit for users to create games on, but it never really took off and nobody wanted to waste the time to try again. :nono:
