Purple Ranger 14 - September 23, 2005 03:31 PM (GMT)
Discuss the WB Show that's been described as a Gloomy :Ghostbusters .

Supernatural Is Route 666
Eric Kripke, creator and executive producer of The WB's Supernatural, told SCI FI Wire he took some time off after working on The WB's failed Tarzan series, and it allowed him to follow up on a lifelong passion. "I've always wanted to do a show about urban legends and American folklore," Kripke said in an interview. "That's always been an obsession. We have this American mythology that is as uniquely American as jazz and baseball, and it's as intricate as any world culture, but it's just not as well-known."
Supernatural tells the tale of two brothers who are looking for their father through the dark corners of America. The series stars Jensen Ackles (Smallville) and Jared Padalecki (Gilmore Girls) as the monster-fighting brothers.
In trying to figure out the best engine to drive the story, Kripke came up with "a hundred different versions of people investigating urban legends and American folklore," he said. During discussions with Warner Brothers, he reluctantly mentioned the idea for Supernatural. "I said, 'I have one idea, but I don't even want to bring it up, because it's impossible from a production standpoint, and it's totally irresponsible of me,'" Kripke said. "And they said, 'What is it?' And I said, 'Well, it's to do this show as Route 66. The real way to get into every small town and hear every small town's ghost story or creature story is to put two guys in a cool car and drive them from small town to small town across America. But that's crazy, because there's no standing sets and no recurring cast.'"
But, Kripke said, "they loved it. Warner Brothers just sparked to it immediately. And I said, 'Before we move any further you need to put me on the phone with your head of production, and they need to promise me that I'll be able to do this show if we move forward.' Which they did, to their credit." Supernatural premiered Sept. 13 and will air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

I think the creature that killed their mom & Sam's girlfriend has a connection to the family's past.

Lady Hawk - September 27, 2005 04:05 AM (GMT)
I have no clue what the creature is. Yet, I will have to agree with you on the creature having something to do with the family's past. ;) That seems to make a lot of sense. ^_^ But we'll have to wait & see. :)

Supernatural Will Give Answers
Jensen Ackles, who co-stars in The WB's Supernatural, told SCI FI Wire that the second half of the first season will offer some answers to the show's underlying mystery. "That's going to start building towards the surface in the back nine [episodes]," Ackles said in an interview at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif. "Everything's going to kind of come close to the surface, and things are going to start coming together more. We actually get to interact with our father in the episode that we're filming now, which is a huge step for us. Now, where that takes us we're not quite sure, but it's definitely a big step in the right direction, I think."
Ackles stars as Dean Winchester in the series, alongside Jared Padalecki as his brother, Sam, and the two travel around the country in search of their father while battling against supernatural forces. The first half of the season established the mythology behind the Winchester family. According to Ackles, upcoming episodes will fill in some of the history that has been hinted at so far.
"[I] think it can be very much a faux pas to drag it out season over season over season," Ackles said. "I think that these things need to be resolved and things need to surface, at least within a season, and I think [creator and executive producer] Eric Kripke's on the same page. I think he's against that whole dragging audiences ... across many, many seasons of storylines. So I definitely know that he's on the same page about resolving things and moving on to bigger and more interesting problems."
Supernatural airs on The WB Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Supernatural Gets The Girl
Jensen Ackles, who co-stars with Jared Padalecki in The WB's scary series Supernatural, told SCI FI Wire that the show will be adding a new recurring female character in the second half of the first season. "The character of Meg, played by Nicki Aycox, she's going to be coming back and doing some stuff," Ackles said in an interview at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif. "That's going to be a really interesting multiple storyline, a nice little arc there. ... We're planting some nice seeds for some good arcs."
In the recent episode "Scarecrow," Aycox (Jeepers Creepers II, Over There) first made an appearance as a hitchhiker who makes a connection with Padalecki's Sam Winchester. At the end of the episode, it is revealed that Meg is more than meets the eye.
In a separate interview, Padalecki said that "Scarecrow" is one of his favorite episodes of the series so far, and he's looking forward to Meg's return. "She's a new recurring character, " Padalecki said. "She's back and trying to cause more trouble." Supernatural airs on The WB Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Blair Turns Heads In Supernatural
Original Exorcist star Linda Blair told TV Guide that she chose to make a guest appearance on the Nov. 9 episode of The CW's Supernatural on one condition: no demons. "Supernatural wrote a one-hour special for me specifically," Blair told the magazine. "There are no demons in this show—that was one of my specifics—and I think they did a remarkable job. I was really touched when [series creator] Eric Kripke pitched this idea. I just looked at him and said, 'Oh, my God. You really listened to my request.'"
In the episode, "The Usual Suspects," Blair plays a skeptical police detective who investigates the Winchester boys, played by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.
"The boys were caught red-handed in a murder scene, and I am a nonbeliever," Blair said. "I play a detective—until something happens to me that makes me have to go to them for help. I watch the show, and I'm a fan, but I didn't realize how many fans write in. And [the writers] actually read their e-mails and try to answer them, so they used my character to sort of answer some things." Supernatural airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Helfer Guests On Supernatural
Tricia Helfer (SCI FI Channel's Battlestar Galactica) will guest-star in the Feb. 22 episode of The CW's Supernatural, the network announced.
In the episode entitled "Road Kill," Helfer will play Molly, a young woman who is being chased by an evil-looking farmer on a dark highway, attracting the attention of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles). In their quest to find Molly's husband, the Winchester brothers confess to Molly that the farmer haunts the highway the same day every year to claim a new victim, and, unfortunately, he's set his sights on her.
The episode airs in Supernatural's regular Thursday timeslot at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Supernatural Answers Coming
Eric Kripke, creator and executive producer of The CW's horror series Supernatural, told SCI FI Wire that season two will end with a final episode that will wrap things up and answer a lot of questions, unlike the previous season's cliffhanger finale. Among the questions that will be answered: What's the deal with Sam's destiny? What's the deal with the yellow-eyed demon? And will we see Sam and Dean's dad one last time?
"Everyone has started to accuse me of always giving cliffhangers," Kripke said in an interview at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif., last week. "[There was a] big cliffhanger at the end of season one, [a] big cliffhanger going into the hiatus, and I said, 'All right, well, if everyone assumes I'm going to give cliffhangers, I'm going to surprise them at the end of ... season [two] by not giving a cliffhanger, but [rather] giving a huge, climactic resolution that they're not expecting.' So we're doing that this season."
Which is not to say that the finale will resolve all issues for the demon-hunting brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles). "The story is by no means over," Kripke said. "There's major issues that still need to be resolved. But we're giving a climactic season finale that we think is going to feel epic and pretty exciting. We think the fans should be pretty stoked to see what's coming."
Kripke said that the remainder of the season will be balanced between stand-alone stories and episodes that further the mythology of the series, leading to a spectacular conclusion in the finale. "Episode 14 will be a huge mythology episode," he said. "And then I think we go back to self-enclosed for actually a little while to get ready for the big finale showdown. And then episodes like we did similar to last year—episodes 20, 21 and 22— ... a major sort of epic storyline to kind of wrap up the season. ... You know where the mythology goes, and you know what endpoints you want to be."
Regular viewers of the show will be rewarded in the end as all the story threads from the season are brought together. "It's always sort of a sleight of hand when you look at all the elements you've created throughout the season, and you bring them all together in a way that's satisfying to the audience," Kripke said. "And for what it's worth, we feel we've done that. We take all the different strands—between the cops that are after them, the roadhouse, Ellen, Sam's destiny—and we feel we found a way to tie them all together in a way that'll be very surprising and shocking to the audience." Supernatural airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
