Zach Braff and Mandy Moore split
Zach Braff and Mandy Moore have reportedly split up.
Sources claim the Hollywood couple have gone their separate ways after 'Scrubs' star Zach was seen partying in New York with various other women last weekend.
The actor arrived at top nightspot Level V with "a harem of young women" and tried to set one of them up with his friend Gavin DeGraw.
However, onlookers claim Zach appeared more interested in the woman himself.
One revealed to America's New York Post newspaper: "It seemed that he was the one trying to personally 'match' himself to any woman who looked his way."
Other witnesses spotted Zach flirting with girls at trendy nightclubs Marquee and Cain.
Newly single Mandy has previously dated tennis hunk Andy Roddick and 'That '70s Show' star Wilmer Valderrama.

Saved! - Teen Comedy starring Mandy Moore
This teen comedy produces a bit more than double standards; it's a full on double-edged sword. Although I admire anyone who brings teen pregnancy into mainstream cinema and gives young mums hope that their lives will not be ruined by pregnancy, it also dumbs down a very serious issue with condescending morals, possibly alienating the real target audience and giving a plethora of young girls false inspiration.
Saved is a teen flick, there is no avoiding it. The cast is headed by teen pop idol Mandy Moore, it is set in a high school and the plot reinforces the bully vs. martyr scenario which has almost become a genre on its on. Strangely, Saved appeals to a wider age group - reviewers across the globe are going nuts for it.
Jena Malone stars as Mary a girl who gets pregnant out of wedlock to a boyfriend she was attempting to save from homosexuality. Mary is one of the “in” crowd led by Hilary Faye (Moore) and when her dilemma is revealed she is scorned by friends, authority figures and her mother. Having already lost her faith in God she finds solace with the outcasts who understand her situation and respect her decision to go through with the pregnancy. Cassandra (Eva Amurri) a Jew who has been expelled from every school in the area and her wheelchair-bound boyfriend Roland (Macaulay Culkin) show Mary that there is more to life than acceptance by the majority.
A promising premise is delicately built for the best part of the film but manages to come crashing down when religious satire gives way to cheese as age-old high school divisions roll out far too easily, culminating in - yep, you guessed it - a big prom with loads of fights.
Purple Ranger 14 - August 9, 2005 03:09 PM (GMT)
Although it remains similar to many of the teen flicks you see, Saved is a little special and strangely watchable. Amurri and Culkin provide a welcome relief from the stale glares of star Malone. Their passionate and unexpected performances give a new edge to an otherwise ordinary plot.
Moore is an interesting actress. While Whitney, Britney and Mariah use film as another avenue to showcase their singing (usually in the most horrifying of ways) Moore sings in an attempt to take the piss out of herself - and she succeeds. The self-depreciating roles she accepts have endeared her to the audience and proven her ability to act - let's hope that sometime, in the near future, we see her as something other than the rich bitch.
I'm not convinced that Saved deserves the accolades it's receiving, but it does deserves some credit for putting an average girl in a starring role, opening the door to contentious issues and challenging the religious ideals which create unnecessary discrimination within school and between loved ones.

Actress Mandy Moore confessed she has a crush on Hugh Grant since they worked together for "America Dreamz".
Moore, 21, who will star with Hugh Grant, Dennis Quaid, Chris Klein, Willem Dafoe and Marcia Gay Harden in the movie, declared she was fascinated by Grant, but worried she made no impression on him whatsoever.
"I'm sure Hugh's probably back in London now going like: 'I worked with this girl, Mindy...' like I made no impression on him whatsoever!" Mandy told WENN.
But I think all the women just were gushing around him saying: 'It's Hugh Grant!' The accent, he's charming, he's hilarious, he's so talented and yet so humble.
Just such a regular guy. I was like: 'Oh my God, I hope all movie stars are like this!'", Mandy added.

Mandy up for the "Casting of Dallas"
I think she would perfect for this part of Lucy!!!!!!!
Casting Dallas

"Who's gonna be J.R. in the Dallas movie?" is apparently the new, "Who's gonna be the next James Bond?" Variety is naming a pretty wide range of actors, from Mel Gibson to Tommy Lee Jones, but John Travolta is said to currently be in the lead. And, though her reps vehemently denied her involvement several months ago - even going as far to claim that if a casting rumor is printed anywhere except for "our industry papers of record, Variety and the Hollywood Reporter", then it's probably not true - Catherine Zeta-Jones is atop the list of names for the role of Sue Ellen, which Jennifer Lopez and Demi Moore are also said to be up for. What about Bobby? Matthew McConaughey and Owen Wilson are said to be on the list to fill Patrick Duffy's boots. The producers are apparently dead set on casting a pop starlet in the role of Lucy; Lindsay Lohan, Mandy Moore and Jessica Simpson are all on the list. Other names floating around for various roles in Robert Luketic's film include Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon, and Jane Fonda.
Mandy Moore appears once in People & US Weekly and twice in Star, In Touch, and Life & Style.

Mandy Rips Rehab Rumors
Mandy Moore has a reputation for being a good girl, the kind who eats her vegetables and gets to bed at a reasonable hour after having brushed and flossed. The fresh-faced starlet, 21, seems as likely a rehab candidate as little Dakota Fanning, but that didn't stop a rumor from circulating last week that she had checked herself into a "substance abuse and psychiatric hospital," ostensibly for a "personal problem."
It all started when an Internet prankster posted a phony Associated Press story about Mandy's supposed stay at a treatment facility (it was cribbed from an actual item detailing Billy Joel's rehab check-in back in 2002). Faster than you can say Snopes, Moore's fans were expressing shock and dismay over her trumped-up troubles.
The irate singer-actress, who recently earned kudos for a grown-up guest-starring stint on "Entourage," quickly took to her Web site to refute the rehab report -- and justifiably waggle her finger at those who would pen such character-impugning fiction.
"I am so overwhelmed by the absurdity of rumors and how on earth they could possibly get started," fumes Mindy. "Earlier this week, I was apprised of a wonderful piece of gossip that I was in rehab ... nice! As I sit here at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in Los Angeles drinking my English Breakfast latte (quite a distance from a supposed Connecticut rehab center I have apparently checked myself into), I am so saddened that people stretch as far as they do in attempting to spread gossip that, at the end of the day, is just downright hurtful."
Moore adds that this will be her only comment on the manufactured tale because "it would probably make the originators of this ridiculousness happy and fuel their little fire."

Mandy Moore to star in new comedy
Thursday, November 17 2005, 18:36 GMT -- by Miriam Zendle
Mandy Moore has signed on to play Diane Keaton's daughter in new comedy Because I Said So, Variety reports.
According to the magazine, Keaton will star as an "over-zealous mother" who wants to find the perfect man for her oldest daughter, played by Moore.
The film has not yet begun filming, with production due to start in December 2005. It will be directed by Michael Lehmann, whose previous credits include dark comedy Heathers.
Moore's next appearance will be in musical comedy Southland Tales alongside 'The Rock,' otherwise known as Dwayne Johnson.
Mandy Moore and Billy Crudup have signed up alongside acting legends Mia Farrow and Harvey Keitel for "Dedication," a drama that will mark the directorial debut of fellow actor Justin Theroux ("Mulholland Drive"). The film, which has plans to shoot early next year in Manhattan, tells the story of a children's-book writer (Crudup) and the illustrator he falls for (Moore) after they are forced to collaborate. Farrow will play mother to Moore's character, while Keitel has been cast as the young woman's predecessor.

Mandy Moore Likes Thrills
By Joshua Tyler: 2006-02-02
Mandy Moore keeps getting busier. Apparently seven films in varying stages of production isn't enough for her, because the former pop-singer turned respectable movie star has signed up for another.
Movie Hole reports that Mandy will star in the movie Twist of Fate , a thriller (no not of the erotic variety, stop that) about a couple whose lives are turned upside down after a hit-and-run accident. Presumably there will be a little more to their troubles than the usual, obligatory battle with insurance. That wouldn't be thrilling, it's usually just depressing. Especially if they didn't have rental coverage.
The movie is directed by Jennifer Elster, who has so far made her starvation starring in, writing, and directing her own low budget indies. With Mandy Moore on board her next one, Jennifer is sure to get some attention for this one.
Also in talks to join the cast is James McAvoy, who did a fantastic job in The Chronicles of Narnia as brave Mr. Tumnus.

Mandy Moore And Fiance Zach 'Very Much In Love'
Star magazine has details behind Zach Braff's proposal to Mandy Moore. "Mandy and Zach couldn't be happier about their engagement, an insider tells the tabloid. "They're very much in love." Though no date has been set, look for Braff's 'Garden State' co-star and best friend Donald Faison to be the best man. "The best man will probably be Donald," the source added. Braff's rep is denying the engagement report.

Mandy Interview with Billboard
Mandy Moore Returns With 'Organic' New Album
November 17, 2006, 11:55 AM ET
Katie Hasty, N.Y.
After spending the past several years focusing on acting in films
like "Saved" and "American Dreamz," Mandy Moore is finishing her
first new album since 2003's "Coverage," her last for Epic. Now
signed to management powerhouse the Firm's label, Moore just
finished recording at Allaire Studios in upstate New York with
producer John Alagia.
"I'm so excited to be back and making music. It's my first love,"
Moore tells Billboard.com. "I've been really concentrating on movies
for the last couple of years and the opportunities keep coming in,
but I kind of believe everything happens for a reason. It's time to
do this."
Within the last year, Moore has been contributed to five films,
including the upcoming "Dedication" (with Billy Crudup and Amy
Sedaris) and "Because I Said So" (with Diane Keaton). Ready for a
break, she began co-writing music with pop singer Rachael Yamagata,
as well as Boston duo the Weepies, Lori McKenna and Chantal
Kreviazuk. The album will mark the first time that Moore has written
or co-written every song. The track list is now being whittled down
from 18 completed tracks.
"It means a lot to me to make something that's mine. It's a passion
project. It won't matter if it doesn't sell tons or have this high
level of success," she says of the as-yet-untitled album.
The 22-year-old star struck gold in the studio with Alagia, who has
helmed the boards for efforts from John Mayer and Dave Matthews
Band. "John is my new favorite person," she enthuses. "He knew what
kind of record I want to make. Nothing is going to be overly-
produced. It's going to be very organic and fresh. Very nice-
sounding."
One of Moore's goals for the album was to have a product that sounds
just as good live as it does on record. She says early in her
career, most of her live performances consisted of opening for
groups like the Backstreet Boys in venues that lacked intimacy.
"Now, it feels like there's more at stake for me -- a chance to feel
vulnerable and make a whole new introduction to people," she
says. "And I'm excited to become a headliner." She hopes to tour in
smaller theaters and "cool clubs," beginning around the release of
the album, and her birthday, in April.

Mandy Moore Gets Wild ... On Forthcoming LP
Singer collaborated with indie folk acts on first self-penned release.
by Chris Harris
At the tender age of 14, Mandy Moore inked a deal with Epic Records, and soon after, got to work on her debut LP, 1999's So Real.
Like most eye-catching, aspiring pop singers her age, the songs that comprised Moore's platinum first studio outing were mostly written for her, with lyrics she hadn't composed and felt little connection with. The same thing happened with her 2001 self-titled offering, and then again with 2003's Coverage, a collection of covers Moore felt a strong connection to.
"Being a part of the process from the get-go was something that I was never allowed to do," the singer said last week. "I signed a record deal and was sort of shoved into the studio with songs that I didn't really like and had no say in — which was fine, because it was a great platform for me to start from. But for the last few years, I've known just what type of record I wanted to make — and I stood my ground."
After a break from music that found her concentrating on building her acting reésumé, Moore is back with that album, which she's tentatively, tellingly titled Wild Hope. Slated for release in April, it will be the first of Moore's efforts on which she either wrote or co-wrote every song.
"Making this record has been the most exciting and fulfilling experience of my life — creatively," Moore explained. "It's been my favorite endeavor, including movies and all that stuff. I really have had such a blast making it, and I wouldn't have wanted to do it any other way — nor do I want to do another record any other way.
"I feel like any artist should be able to call the shots," she continued. "That's the whole point — to fulfill your passion. I could have made this record a couple of years ago, in a very different way, with different players involved, and I just knew that it wasn't the right thing. It would be nice to sort of find success with this particular album, but I'm just happy that it's going to be out there and available, and I'll be able to play this music. It just kind of happened the way I imagined it happening."
Moore began writing material for Wild Hope more than two years ago, and, when the time was right, headed to Allaire Studios in Shokan, New York, where she'd spent seven weeks tracking with producer John Alagia (Dave Matthews Band, Liz Phair). Moore said she brought 18 completed tunes into the studio with her, some of which she'd worked on with singer/songwriters like Rachael Yamagata, Chantal Kreviazuk and Lori McKenna, or indie pop-folk duo the Weepies, all of whom she said she's a "humungous fan" of.
"The fact that they were open to the idea of collaborating with me, and on top of that, the collaboration working and us sort of getting great results from our time together — I just had no idea," she explained. Moore, who is learning to play guitar and is an avid folk-music fan, personally approached the artists she wanted to work with. "It was really magical and kind of serendipitous in a way. It was me being this huge fan and chasing after them, telling them I'd love to work with them. And it all worked out."
And yes, fans will be hearing a different Mandy on Wild Hope — not the "Candy" Mandy they might have grown up with. She said that her love of folk did seep into some of the tracks, and she had to take the chance of it not connecting with her old fans.
"I love the music I love, and I wanted to make an organic, fresh, live-sounding pop record unlike what's out there now," she said, admitting that she no longer knows where she fits into today's musical landscape. But more than that, the album's also very personal, she said.
"People will take what they want to take from the lyrics," Moore explained. "I don't live my life too much in the public eye, relatively speaking, so I can escape a little bit of that scrutiny. But it is a personal record and it's my first songwriting stab at things, so the lyrics are about what's been going on in my life the last two years, and how I feel about life and love and figuring out who I am and where I fit in. I definitely tried to not take the easy road, and I'm very proud of it. I pushed myself to say exactly what I wanted to say."
What Moore's most excited about is performing the material live. When she first started out in the business, Moore said she was mostly an opening act for boy bands. But this time around, she's going to be headlining — just not in arenas.
"Opening for the Backstreet Boys was fun when I was 15, but I want to go on a legitimate tour," she said. "I want to play small clubs, and have that intimacy. I want to be able to see people singing back those words I wrote."
Next year will see no shortage of Mandy Moore. In addition to the album, she has four films on the way: "Because I Said So," "License to Wed," "Dedication" and "Southland Tales" (see "Mandy Moore Attends School Of Comedy With 'Office' Star, Robin Williams").

Mandy Moore, art-house star? After nearly a dozen studio flicks, the 22-year-old singer/actress is switching over to more independently minded fare, with hopes that she can begin straddling the line and become the next Parker Posey. "I have a film called 'Dedication' that's going to Sundance," she said this week of her new romantic flick, which marks the directorial debut of veteran actor Justin Theroux. "It's sort of a slice-of-life, tiny little movie. I play a children's-book illustrator to Billy Crudup's children's-book author. I take over for Tom Wilkinson's character, who passes away at the beginning of the film. It's about our working relationship, and we end up falling in love in the movie." The love story hits a snag when Moore's Lucy discovers the misogynistic ways of Crudup's Henry, but they still give the unlikely romance a shot while supporting actors Amy Sedaris, Dianne Wiest and Bobby Cannavale deal with the collateral damage. "It's something I'm really proud of," Moore grinned. "It's a little quieter, different direction for me."

A recap of Mandy on "David Lettermen"
MANDY MOORE: She got specially dressed up for Dave. How nice. Makes
me rethink my daily blue jeans and t-shirt. Mandy has made a list of
goals she would like to achieve by the time she turns 30. I think
the only goal I had in my 20s was to make it to 30. I'm surprised I
made it. Some of her goals: She wants to learn to play the guitar,
so she's started taking cooking lessons. She wants to learn how to
cook. She wants to learn French. Dave suggests one of her goals
could be to get some custom-made socks.
Last year, Mandy was busy putting together an album which she
recorded up in upstate New York at Woodstock. Ahh, Woodstock. Now
that was an era of some great music; late 60s, early 70s. Each
December I drive up to Woodstock to cut down a Christmas tree. I
pass right by Yasgur's Farm. I never fail to yell, "Give me an 'F'"
as I sight Yasgur's.
While recording the album, Mandy stayed in a haunted house. (I hope
she got a good deal.) It was an old house. The ghosts live in
Pittsburgh but summer in the Catskills of Woodstock. She noticed
some creepy things while in the house, like lights and the TV going
on and off; she heard footsteps when there was no one else in the
house; and she found her pants on the floor of the laundry room when
she was sure she had hung them up to dry. . . and this happened more
than once. Mandy decided it would be best if she explained to the
ghosts that she would only be there for only a short while and she
had no plans of moving into the house. It's sort of what I did when
I had to move back in with my parents for a spell.
Mandy also bought herself a new old car that she had converted so it
would run on soybean oil. The exhaust smells like Korean barbecue.
My first car smelled like old cigarettes and burning rubber.
You can see Mandy Moore in the new film, "Because I Said So" with
Diane Keaton opening Friday, February 2nd.

MOORE SPOOKED BY HAUNTED MANSION
Singer/actress MANDY MOORE was terrified when she discovered the
remote mansion in which she was recording tracks for her new album was
haunted. The CANDY singer was writing and recording tracks in an old
house that had been converted into a recording studio in Woodstock, New York. She explains, "I was kind of forewarned this old house that
was built in the 1920's was haunted and I'm a big scaredy-cat. "As
soon as I arrived at my little part of the house where I was staying,
I walked around to every room saying, 'OK, I'm just here for a couple
months, and I'm here to do something positive and creative. Please
don't scare me and please leave me alone!' "Supposedly, it's a family
and this was their summer house back in the '20s and they have another
house in Pennsylvania and they supposedly go back and forth between
the two. "The matriarch of the family supposedly haunts the part of
the house that I was staying in. She doesn't like people cleaning.
"Supposedly the cleaning lady at the studio was pushed down the stairs
a couple of years ago, so I was completely freaked out. My favourite
part was I guess she really didn't like cleaning, because I would do
laundry and put my pants on top of the dryer and I would come back and
everything would be on the ground. "So I started putting the laundry
detergent on top of my pants and I came back and everything, the
laundry detergent, the pants, the dryer sheets, were all thrown on the
ground. I was petrified!"
MOORE LEAVES POP SONGS IN HER PAST
Singer/actress MANDY MOORE is desperately trying to distance herself from her pop star past by recording intensely personal songs on her new album. Although her first two albums sold more than 1.5 million copies, the star claims she is embarrassed by her early recordings. She tells Jane magazine, "I feel bad that people wasted their money on such trite, blah pop music." The 22-year-old has written about her break-up with SCRUBS star ZACH BRAFF, as well as songs about her own self-discovery. She adds, "If it were a non-celebrity making this record, the buzz would be that this girl is the real deal."
Pop star/actress MANDY MOORE nervously debuted five songs at a private
concert last Saturday (20JAN07) at the Sundance Film Festival. The
22-year-old star has been writing the personal songs to work through
her break-up with SCRUBS star ZACH BRAFF and subsequent battle with
depression. She tells American publication People, "I'm more nervous
to actually have the material out there and to have people know that
they are my words and my songs. "I feel lucky to finally do the movies
I want to do, and they're my words and I'm proud of it, and you can
sort of stand behind it with confidence and dive in headfirst." Moore
insists she isn't worried about people trying to analyse her lyrics
for clues as to why she split with Braff saying, "I'm not really
worried about it. "People can infer what they want from the songs and
that's perfectly fine. I just know in a selfish way it was like
therapy for me. "Whatever was going on in my life, just to be able to
get it down and turn a negative situation into something I felt a
little more positive about at the end of the day, it's cathartic."

Mandy Moore Looks For Love Alongside Genre's Giant, Diane Keaton
Singer/actress and 'Annie Hall' star team up as daughter and mother in romantic comedy 'Because I Said So.'
by Shawn Adler, with reporting by Larry Carroll and Jeff Cornell
Mandy Moore as Milly in "Because I Said So" (Suzanne Tenner / Universal Pictures)
In the pantheon of romantic comedies, there's "Annie Hall" ... and then there's everything else. But don't take our word for it.
"['Annie Hall' is] the greatest romantic comedy ever made," Mandy Moore recently proclaimed.
We'll entertain no challenges for the mantle. Why? Because Moore said so. Or, more correctly, "Because I Said So," a new romantic comedy that teams the singer/actress with "Annie Hall" star Diane Keaton as a daughter-and-mother team who are both looking for love.
Moore said that working with the Oscar-winning master of the genre proved a challenge she was ready to embrace. "You have no choice but to raise your game with Diane Keaton, she is just that incredible," Moore said. She added: "It was fun as an actress to challenge myself, to get over that fear. She's on such a pedestal for me. To conquer and master that nervousness [was difficult]."
Released in 1977, "Annie Hall" remains the only straight-up comedy to win the Oscar for Best Picture in the past 50 years. According to Moore, that's a testament to how difficult romantic comedies are to make.
"These are the types of movies that I gravitate toward in real life. I love seeing a good romantic comedy or relationship comedy," Moore said. "[But] it's hard to make these movies good. There are so many points where you could fail and lose your way. It's a difficult genre to master."
Perhaps the key, Keaton mused, could be found not in silly premises or oddball pairings (as has been the recent trend), but in the simple beauty of honest performances. "The thing about romantic comedies is that you just have to rely a lot on performance," the 61-year-old actress said. "It [doesn't have] the amazing aspects of real drama or thrillers. It's more difficult than other comic genres. It's more delicate."
As Moore's love interest in the film, co-star Gabriel Macht ("The Good Shepherd") had plenty of opportunities to ham it up. But it was Keaton's perspective, he said, that kept his performance grounded.
"I just wanted to play [the role] truthful. I'm just trying to tell a story," Macht said. "I'm never playing for laughs, so I'm not playing for the comedy. I'm never playing to be cool and sexy and hot, so I'm not playing for the romance. I'm just playing a guy who's falling in love with a girl."
While it's a philosophy that has served her well in nearly a dozen romantic comedies, and earned her two Oscar nominations (including one win) in the genre, Keaton thinks it may be time to pass the torch. "Mainly, I don't think people really are really interested in watching [me in romantic comedies]," she sighed. "You know what I mean? 'Gee, I can't wait to see a romance with Diane Keaton. Pencil me in, I'll be there!' I don't think that's part of the deal."
If it is time to move on, Keaton said the future looks bright for Mandy Moore. "I think she has a huge future as an actress. I think she's got everything you need and more," Keaton said. "I think she's going to have an amazing career and her work [will] just get better and better."
MOORE: 'I HATE DATING'
Pop star MANDY MOORE wishes she could skip the courting stages of a
relationship because she detests going on dates. The 22-year-old
singer suffered from depression after splitting from SCRUBS actor ZACH
BRAFF in November (06), but has recently been seen stepping out with
NICOLE RICHIE's ex-fiance ADAM 'DJ AM' GOLDSTEIN. However, dating
leaves Moore in a panic. She says, "I don't enjoy dating in the public
eye. I don't even really enjoy dating. "I find it really not fun. When
it comes to the romantic side of things, I would rather be a girl in a
relationship than dating."

MANDY MOORE is desperate to shed her image as a "throwaway" pop star -
and insists she hates the music she made as a youngster. The
22-year-old star, who is set to release self-penned album WILD HOPE
later this year (07), made her name with pop hit CANDY in 1999, but
Moore is adamant she has moved on from her teenage songstress days,
and is now happy to concentrate on her fledgling film career. She
says, "Not to sound bad, but I don't necessarily have to make a
record. No one's out there desperately waiting for my next album. "I
have so much fun doing film stuff, and I feel really fulfilled
creatively doing that right now. "So I have to do the music my way. It
means too much to me. I can't just go into the studio and make a
crappy pop record to please somebody else. Why bother?"

Avril, Christina's Multiple-Personality Clips Copy A Page From Madonna's Handbook
Beyoncé, J. Lo, Mariah, Gwen have also doubled up in videos.
by Jennifer Vineyard
What's with all the different versions of Avril Lavigne running around in her new video? Or, for that matter, the multiple Christinas, Ciaras and Beyoncés in theirs?
Everywhere you look, it seems some pop diva has replicated herself so she's the star of her clip several times over. (Whatever happened to delegating? Surely their budgets can't be that tight.) This is nothing new, actually — Mariah and Madonna are old pros at it by now — but the idea has been spreading lately like a video virus, with Avril just the latest to be infected.
This got us thinking: Are all these people copying themselves, or someone else?
Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend"
Avril Lavigne gets to have it both ways in her "Girlfriend" clip — she's the nice girl and the mean girl. "The redhead is the girlfriend, and the brunette is the bratty one who tries to steal the boyfriend," she explained. (The blonde, of course, is just the regular Avril.) Sure, the brunet Avril knocks the redhead Avril into a port-a-potty and bonks her on the head with a golf ball, but she's not that much of a brat — she's only hurting herself.
Christina Aguilera's "Candyman"
Like Avril, Christina Aguilera's has three different hair colors in her latest video. Her "Candyman" girls are a singing trio along the lines of the Andrews Sisters, and are supposed to look like sisters. But there also seems to be a multiple-personality thing going on (see "Xtina X Three: Aguilera Has Multiple-Personality Disorder In Clip"). Just listen to how Christina explained to MTV News the differences between the three: "The brunette, she wanted to be naughty. She wanted to stir a little trouble. The redhead, she's looking over at the blonde, and she's got a little jealousy in her, like, 'Why aren't I singing the lead?' And the blonde is, of course, my side ... kinda sweet and sassy at the same time." Kinda confusing too.
Ciara's "Like a Boy"
Crossdressing — now that's an entirely different issue. It's one thing to try to imitiate yourself — or different aspects of yourself — but Ciara takes it to a new level when she expresses her masculine side in "Like a Boy" (see "Beyonce, Ciara Explain Why They Unleashed Their Inner Tomboys"). Not that she's lacking for any male companionship, since NFL star Reggie Bush makes a cameo, but Ciara had a point to make. "I'm a tomboy at heart, but I don't go full-out like I did in this video," she told MTV News. "I also wanted to take it a little bit further, saying, 'Yo, I can rock it like this too.' "
Beyoncé's "Upgrade U"
Beyoncé does an impersonation of her man Jay-Z for most of the "Upgrade U" clip. "I love it because it's completely out of my character," Beyoncé said, "or at least the character that people think I am. I'm sure people would be shocked to see that I even did it or that I even could act that way." But why did you have to? At first we thought, what, couldn't B get Jay to be in her video? But after he showed, we got the joke.
Mariah Carey's "Heartbreaker"
The funniest multiple-me moment? Back before Mariah became Mimi, there was Bianca. When poor, sweet, innocent Mariah tries to confront the evil Bianca about stealing her boyfriend (Jerry O'Connell) in her "Heartbreaker" video, the two end up in a bathroom brawl inspired by "Enter the Dragon." Silly, maybe, but it's a fan favorite, and from there, the floodgates opened.
Madonna's "Die Another Day"
Madonna's no multiple-version virgin — she destroyed her own ego, or so she sang, in "Die Another Day," in which she expanded on her fencing-teacher cameo in the James Bond movie. While Madonna is being tortured in one room, two versions of herself — one in black, one in white — battle it out in a scene that riffs on past Bond movies, before the good Madonna kills the bad Madonna. Moral of the story? Nobody messes with Madonna — not even herself.
Kylie Minogue's "Come Into My World"
In 2002, Kylie Minogue strolled around a city block in Paris over and over, with a new Kylie emerging from a store each time the singer made her way around. Or was it the old Kylie? The clip was a Michel Gondry-directed delight, tracing her path, watching one Kylie drop something only to have another Kylie pick it up, and then the two (then three, then four) swerve to avoid each other as they swing around street poles. Then again, Kylie was copying herself in yet another fashion, since she had a Kylie-clone theme in her 1997 clip "Did It Again."
Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For"
Gwen Stefani had an emotional crisis when she tried to do her first solo album, Love, Angel, Music, Baby, the insecurities of which were reflected in the lyrics and video for "What You Waiting For" (see "Gwen Stefani Battles With Herself On First Single From Solo LP"). So as Stefani sang of her conflicted feelings in the form of a dialogue with herself, she reimagined that inner argument as an "Alice in Wonderland" dream, in which she was Alice, the Queen of Hearts, and Tweedledee and Tweedledum. One (more confident) Gwen would tell the other (more nervous) Gwen, "Take a chance, you might grow." "You can tell I'm still having issues," the singer said, "but the outcome has been so worth it."
Ashlee Simpson's "Shadow"
Remember when Ashlee Simpson tried to be like Jessica Simpson? We mean in her video for "Shadow." Director Liz Friedlander depicted two different Ashlees who lived side by side — one blonde, one brunette — with the blonde's world being pretty and happy and the brunette's being, well, less so (see "Blondes Have More Fun In Ashlee Simpson's New Video"). "It's like me against myself," Simpson said, "kind of a facing-your-inner-demons kind of thing and things you battle with day to day." Except the only demon depicted was, well, Jessica — when the blonde smashes a mirror to Ashlee's horror. What does this really tell us about the Simpson family's dynamic?
Jennifer Lopez's "Get Right"
What the hell is going on in the "Get Right" video? (See "An Army Of J. Los — Enough For A Dozen Marriages — Star In 'Get Right' Clip.") One Jennifer is DJing; one Jennifer is dancing alone, with her eyes closed, doing the same moves that another Jennifer is doing on a screen. Yet another Jennifer is also alone, but excited enough to dance on tables. One J. Lo is trying to order drinks from another J. Lo; one is comforting another J. Lo who is crying; one J. Lo waves to another — it's like "Multiplicity" meets "Norbit." Is this what Eddie Murphy has wrought?
Mandy Moore's "Extraordinary"
Mandy Moore is going to top them all, since she'll be no less than 120 versions of herself in her upcoming video for "Extraordinary," which was shot earlier this month in Los Angeles. Her characters include a hippie chick, a rocker chick, a '50s housewife and, strangely enough, Amelia Earhart. "She's kind of the hero," Moore explained. "She's the Mandy that makes the move to jump off the tower and be extraordinary." Could be an extraordinary disaster in the making — or just what Mandy needs to make a multiple comeback.http://www.vh1.com/artists/news/1555792/20...fani_gwen.jhtml

Mandy Moore is still coming to terms with being naturally robust in a bobble-head-crammed town.
"Sometimes I feel fine. Sometimes I don't feel so great. I'm a regular person. I'm not that thin," the statuesque starlet tells the May issue of Elle. "I'm OK with representing a different type than the Hollywood beauty ideal. But other people aren't so OK with that. I've been told that I have to lose weight for stuff before."
Sighs Mandy, "It's mortifying. It's hard to have someone come up and go, 'You should lose a few pounds.' And they don't say it delicately ... It's only happened to me once before. But once is enough to make you feel awful."
Turns out she's talking about her forthcoming romantic comedy "License to Wed," in which she stars as a bride-to-be. According to Elle, a studio suit saw Moore in "American Dreamz" and decided he wanted to see a whole lot less of her when filming began.
"All I can tell you," director Ken Kwapis acknowledges to the mag, "is that I've never been on any production where some executive didn't say, 'Can't that actress lose weight?'"
