Discuss the pink-haired singer.

Pink Gets Engaged To Motocross Champion Carey Hart
Singer reportedly held up sign reading 'Will you marry me?' at racetrack
by Jennifer Vineyard
Carey Hart is about to make a married woman out of Pink. The on-again, off-again couple is officially engaged, according to the singer's management, who confirmed the news on Thursday.
Apparently, Pink was the one who did the proposing, according to eyewitnesses at the Pro 250 class finals in Mammoth, California, on Sunday. During the motocross champion's third lap on the race, Pink wrote on a pit board, "Will You Marry Me?" and held it up in front of the grandstands, according to the Mammoth Times. Then, as Hart continued another lap, Pink wrote on the board again, this time, "I'm serious!" Hart then pulled off the track, letting his competitors pass him, and picked up the singer.
Pink and Hart met at the 2001 X Games in Las Vegas and dated for a few years before shooting a scene together in 2002 for "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" (see "Pink Shoots 'Charlie's Angels' Role, Records Song For Soundtrack").
They broke up for a while when she was promoting Try This, her first album with love songs.
"['Love Song'] is definitely more about fear than the average 'I love you, I found you, I'm going to be with you for the rest of my life,' " she told MTV News while promoting that album. "It's more based on the fear that comes along with loving someone."
Pink is nearing completion on her fourth, as-yet-untitled album (see "Pink Says The Fire Is Back And She's Pissed Off Again"), which she's working on with the RZA, Rob Thomas, Billy Mann and Butch Walker, among others.

Pink Says The Fire Is Back And She's Pissed Off Again
Singer says she's ready to get personal, speak her mind on new LP.
by Jennifer Vineyard
"Nobody knows what the hell's going on with me," Pink boasts. "It's very hush-hush, but I'm alive!"
Indeed, Pink has been pretty quiet lately - at least in the U.S. The singer released her third album, Try This, just over a year ago and spent most of 2004 in Europe, where fans responded more heartily to her dance-rock mishmash. She toured there "from September to September" (see "Pink Flees Prague After Bomb Blast") and plans to release a DVD showcasing her live performances, since she didn't tour Stateside, where the reaction to her new direction was, shall we say, lukewarm at best.
Pink hopes to change all that with her fourth album, which she's in the early stages of. She's been camped out in New York for the past month and a half, holed up in a studio with producer Billy Mann (who worked with her on Try This' dance-floor burner "God Is a DJ" and whom she calls her "heart and soul"), and they've already worked out some 15 songs.
"I haven't been this excited about my music since Missundaztood," she said. "I had the fire in me when I made that record, and it was such a personal record that after that, I was like, 'I don't want to do that again, it's too draining, I don't want to do another [song like] "Family Portrait." I don't want to talk about myself in interviews and have it feel like therapy and come out crying.' I was kind of in self-protect mode for a while."
But now, she said, she has the fire back and is putting her passion - both the personal and the political - into her music again.
"I just have stuff to talk about again. As an American, as a woman, I'm definitely pissed off again," she laughed. "But no, it's good. There's a lot of reasons to be pissed off, and there's a lot of stuff I still have to say, so I'm going there again. I've always felt the same way about animal rights and homelessness and women's rights, but I've never really done anything about it. But now that people have been listening, I could, so I just started to."
Not only is she feeling freer to say what's on her mind (see "Pink Disappointed That More People Don't Protest"), Pink's also having fun experimenting with singing all sorts of different styles of music, so there's no telling just what the new material might end up sounding like.
"I've kind of always been looking for a hybrid, because I am an eclectic clusterf---," she said. "Sorry, it's the only way I can describe myself. I'm looking for the marriage between everything I love, to sing all the types of music I listen to, so now I'm working on the marriage. I'm not going to be singing country, opera or anything like that, though."

Leaked Pink Songs Hint At A Rock-Heavy New Album
Five works in progress have made their way online.
by Jennifer Vineyard
Pink fans got a treat this week when snippets of five new songs, all works in progress, leaked onto the Internet. Even if these particular songs don't make the final cut for Pink's upcoming fourth album, they do give a sense of what direction she's going in - and it's rock.
One track, allegedly titled "Cuz I Can," is an attitude stomp - backed by a staccato beat - declaring that Pink's back. In it, she not only announces that she's not playing by anyone's rules but her own, but she also throws out a few bling boasts, in case anyone was worried about the state of her checkbook ("I could fit your whole house in my swimming pool," "My ice is making me freeze").
Pink's attitude continues on the propulsive "You and Your Hand," an angry anthem for girls trying to get rid of grabby guys they don't want hitting on them. Pink tells off one such prospective suitor, ordering him to find satisfaction elsewhere because she'd rather dance by herself. "I'm not here for your entertainment," she cries in the chorus. "You don't really want to mess with me tonight." She turns him down with the withering lyric "Keep your drink, just give me the money/ It's just you and your hand tonight."
She also gives listeners a glimpse of her vulnerable side in the Butch Walker-produced "Long Way to Happy" (which would have worked just as well for Avril Lavigne or Kelly Clarkson), in which Pink muses about how and why she pushes people away. Not that she hasn't had her reasons, but she needs to move on, she realizes, as she wails, "I'm torn apart, but now I've got to keep on rolling."
The wistful "Who knew?," which starts with a simple, uplifting guitar progression, takes the theme further as Pink misses a lost love, finding it amazing that she opened her heart as much as she did and hoping for a second chance. But lest fans think Pink's gone soft, she throws in a bit of spunk, reminding everyone that she still has a lot of fight in her: "If someone said three years from now, you'd be long gone/ I'd stand up and punch them out."
The piano power ballad "Nobody Knows" is what you might call her Mariah moment, because her voice gets to soar as it builds with each lament. Since all five tracks are rough mixes, they could end up sounding very different once they're polished up. Other songs Pink has recorded recently that were not leaked include "Dear Mr. President" and "Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely)."
"Pink is finishing up her new album, which will be released later this year," label spokesperson Lori Berk said (see "Pink Says The Fire Is Back And She's Pissed Off Again"). "Yes, she is working with Butch Walker, however, the titles of those tracks can't be confirmed yet."

Pink Partners With Pink-Ribbon Group For Breast-Cancer Awareness
Singer performs free concert, donates $50,000 for the cause.
by Jennifer Vineyard

They're pink, she's Pink - the singer calls it "a perfect match." "I was starting not to like the color anymore, but now I have a reason to love it again," she said.
That's because Pink took a break from finishing her new album to team up with the pink-ribboned Breast Cancer Research Foundation to help kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, starting with a free concert Friday night at New York's South Street Seaport. It's a cause close to her heart, she said, since a friend of hers just lost her fight with breast cancer in July. "I've done a lot for animals lately, but it's time to fight for women again," said Pink, a PETA ally.
Though the concert was free, concertgoers were able to buy T-shirts and pink-themed Target products, including bracelets, baseball caps and compilation CDs (those items and more are also available online at Target.com/breastcancer). One hundred percent of the profits benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which focuses on funding clinical and genetic research and awareness programs. Pink also kicked in $50,000 of her own money and donated the check to the organization onstage.
"It's about time we find a cure," Pink said. "It's terrifying. Every three minutes a woman in the U.S. is diagnosed with breast cancer. And I remember when I was 12 and just starting to get little boobies and feeling them, worrying. It's really scary."
What could make the situation less scary, she said, is if there were increased education about how women can take care of themselves, such as what tests to ask your doctor for, at what age you should start to self-exam, when you should get a mammogram, etc. Instead, "they're teaching abstinence, they're teaching about the 1700s, but that's the public school system debate!" she laughed.

Purple Ranger 14 - October 8, 2005 06:40 PM (GMT)
The stigmas associated with sex education, she said, too often prevent people from disseminating basic information about the topic; Albertsons grocery stores just pulled all the October issues of Seventeen magazine because of a sexual-health article titled "Vagina 101," for example. "We're going backwards sometimes," Pink said. "It's sad that something so helpful can't be stocked everywhere, like in homerooms - forget Albertsons!"
In the meantime she says it's her hope that young girls will start educating themselves by asking their doctors how to do self-exams. "If everyone doesn't go out to the doctor and say, 'Check me,' " Pink said, cupping her breast, "then at least it's in the back of your mind that one of these days, 'I've got to do something about that.' "

Pink's Kelly crush
November 9, 2005, 1:02:40
Pink has confessed she has a crush on Kelly Osbourne.
The singer admitted she found the reality TV star sexy after they met at the Wed Rock gig - an awareness concert for gay marriages - in New York. .
The 26-year-old is quoted in Britain's Daily Star newspaper as saying: "I think Kelly's straight but she's really sexy. I could just eat her up".Earlier this year, Pink slammed Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé Knowles for wearing fur. .
Speaking at the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals 25th anniversary gala in Los Angeles, the feisty star branded Lopez "J Bitch" and urged the audience to boycott anything to do with the Latin diva. She then took a thinly-veiled swipe at Beyoncé's curvy behind, saying: "She's got a big button - let's push hers!" .
Last year, Pink snubbed Beyoncé for wearing fur when the two came together for the UK launch of their Pepsi advert. The animal rights campaigner, a dedicated member of PETA, was furious when she arrived at London's National Gallery to find Beyoncé wearing a mink fur jacket over her dress.
Pink fumed at the time: "It's up to Beyoncé what she wears but I'm not speaking to her I've not said anything but I think everyone knows my views - I won't ever touch fur. It's wrong"

Pink Would Rather Fall Off A Car Than Get Glammed Up For Her Videos
Singer shoots two very different clips for 'Stupid Girl' and 'You and Your Hand.'
by Jennifer Vineyard, with additional reporting by Patrick Bowyer
Pink speaks with MTV News on December 15 (MTV News)
Pink can't quite make up her mind. So, to help promote her forthcoming album, instead of just picking her first single and shooting a video for it, she's chosen two songs and shot videos for both, figuring that she'll decide later.
"We're getting down to the wire," she admitted. "I think there's a hole in the world right now and there's a certain thing that needs to fill it, but I just haven't decided which hole to fill."
Pink has picked two "completely different" songs to be the first thing you hear from I'm Not Dead. One is called "Stupid Girl," and the other is "You and Your Hand," a portion of which was leaked this summer on the Internet (see "Leaked Pink Songs Hint At A Rock-Heavy New Album"). Pink shot both clips with her longtime collaborator Dave Meyers, making "Stupid Girl" the eighth video they've done together. "Stupid Girl" spoofs the superficial young Hollywood set, but Pink's not disclosing exactly who her target is this time around.
"I don't think I need to name names," she said. "I live in L.A., so it's obvious what I'm surrounded by." She calls the clip "sick and twisted and insane," which in her book is a very good thing.
"I love making videos, and I love making videos with Dave Meyers," she said. "He just gets it. I like to be physical and do my own stunts, and he allows for that. He has an insane imagination. I don't think anyone ever stopped laughing during 'Stupid Girl.' I don't think everyone else is going to laugh, but just know that we all did."
Of course, doing her own stunts isn't without risk. Pink hurt herself a lot during the shoot, especially when she fell off a car, chipping a bone in her wrist and opening a gash on her leg. "It goes all the way up [my thigh]," she laughed. "Good times!"
Meanwhile, "You and Your Hand" - a spiteful sendoff to guys who get too friendly on the dance floor - goes in the opposite direction. "First of all, I didn't want it to be typical," she said. "Not another club video. That's not going to happen, until we can do it all suspended in the air on hovercrafts. It just won't be interesting."
She describes the character-driven clip as being more "high-fashion, glam, vampirey, tough [and] sexy." Whereas she kept busy doing stunts in "Stupid Girl," Pink spent the majority of her time during the "You and Your Hand" shoot getting dolled up. "It was four hours of makeup and one hour of shooting for every different look in the video," she said. "I'll never do it again, so enjoy it! Because it sucked."
Pink's first single - whichever one she picks - is due in January, with one of those two videos to follow. I'm Not Dead is due in late March or early April.

Pink Pens An Open Letter To President Bush On New Album
Singer says she hopes he hears her 'Dear Mr. President.'
by Jennifer Vineyard, with additional reporting by Patrick Bowyer
It's only been a few days, but 2006 is already looking to be pretty busy for Pink - she has a single on the way this month (either "Stupid Girl" or "You and Your Hand"), followed by a new album, followed by her first movie. And to think that when she started working on her fourth album, she felt like the effort would be fruitless.
"When I started, I had not a thought in my head," Pink said. "I was reading The New York Times every day and I was really depressed. 'I suck, no one likes me, I have nothing to say.' Forty-five songs later, they make me stop writing songs."
This time around, Pink chose as her main collaborator Billy Mann, who worked with her on Try This' dance-floor burner "God Is a DJ," before she moved on to work with Butch Walker, the RZA and others. "We pick each other as far as producers go," she said. "It depends where I'm at with my headspace. I don't know until I get there. I don't plan anything. It's where the day takes you, and it took me to a really great place this time."
Pink's not sure how people are going to react to the new batch of songs on I'm Not Dead, an album that's more personal than anything she's ever offered. She even brings aboard her father for one track, singing a song he wrote while serving in Vietnam that taught her how to harmonize when she was a kid. "It's the most adorable experience for a father and daughter to share," she said. "He's just such a folk singer, I just love it. It felt like the '60s."
The '60s touch is also felt on Pink's most political song yet, "Dear Mr. President," an open letter to George W. Bush. "I hope the president is proud of the fact that we live in a country where we can do things like that, where we can have dissent, talk, communicate and share our opinions," she said.

Purple Ranger 14 - January 6, 2006 03:53 PM (GMT)
"I also think it's pretty narcissistic to think that one of my songs will be heard by the president of the United States," she laughed, "but hey, that would be really cool."
Don't worry - Pink hasn't gotten all-out folk on us. If anything, most of the songs have a harder rock bent, though a few ballads do pop up (see "Leaked Pink Songs Hint At A Rock-Heavy New Album"). Pink says the wistful "Who Knew" is about the death of a friend as well as the loss of a friendship. "There's a couple different people mixed in," she said. "It's just the grieving process. You can look at somebody, he might be right there, and the next Monday he might not be."
The title track on I'm Not Dead also dissects the end of a relationship, but from a different perspective - seeing what you've gained at the end of it all. It's something that was spawned from Pink and Mann acknowledging the end of their working relationship. "We were scared to move on from each other," she said, "after seeing how much that little bit of time together changed us, and how scary change is. It's sort of the most poetic I've ever gotten in a song. Usually I'm more blunt, but I dig it."
Despite these more personal tracks, Pink describes the album as having a "spectrum of light and color." In other words, it's not as dark as it sounds. Yes, there are songs that are angry ("Dear Mr. President"), but she hopes it promotes change. Yes, there are songs that are "morbid and miserable," but there are also songs that are "very happy." And then there are songs that are all three - such as the push/pull of "Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely)."
"That's how I live my life. I'm a walking conflict," she laughed. "I guess I turned 25 and sort of woke up. Before, I think, I thought I knew everything and now I realize I have so much left to learn. I just love being here. I love pushing buttons. I love the process of growing up. When you're a teenager, there are moments that you want to die. But you get past that, and then every moment is like, 'I want to live! I have so much to do! I'm not dead! I'm here.' "
Pink's I'm Not Dead is due in March or April, her spokesperson said.

Pink Marries Carey Hart In Costa Rica
Singer wed motocross racer on Saturday.
by Gil Kaufman
Pink married motocross racer Carey Hart on a beach in Costa Rica on Saturday in front of 100 guests. According to People magazine, the couple were married at sunset by a local officiant in a non-denominational ceremony at the Four Seasons hotel.
"We just love the beach, so we knew we wanted it to be at the beach," Pink, 26, told People. Hart, 30, who recently appeared on VH1's "The Surreal Life," said, "We wanted it very fun and non-traditional. We're spiritual, but we're not religious. It was about being with our closest friends and family and having a very fun and loose party." Among the reported guests was singer Lisa Marie Presley.
Us Weekly described the setting as an isolated beach cove near the hotel on the country's scenic Papagayo peninsula. It reported that during the exchange of vows, a weepy Pink told Hart, "I love you because I let you hold my heart, and you haven't broken it."
Pink, who told MTV in December that she was "going to be a girl, and I'm going to wear a dress" for her wedding, wore a cream gown and pink highlights in her blond hair, which was topped with a black ribbon, according to Us. She walked barefoot down the aisle to Billy Joel's "She's Always a Woman."
The singer (born Alecia Moore), met Hart at the 2001 X Games in Las Vegas, and, in keeping with her outspoken nature, proposed to him last summer during one of his races in Mammoth Lakes, California, by holding up a sign that read "Will you marry me?," followed by one that said, "I'm serious!" Hart bailed on the race to say yes (see "Pink Gets Engaged To Motocross Champion Carey Hart"). It is the first marriage for both.
"I knew within the first few weeks after meeting her that I wanted to be with her for the rest of my life," Hart said to People. The couple plan to go snowboarding on their honeymoon with their four dogs. Wedding planner Kara Keaney told People, "They're so in love, and they're best friends. They're perfect for each other."
The singer, who stars in the upcoming horror movie "Catacombs," is slated to release the first single from her upcoming album, I'm Not Dead (due in March or April), this month. She said the record is the most personal one she's ever written, but that it also delves into politics on songs such as one she described as an open letter to George Bush entitled, "Dear Mr. President" (see "Pink Pens An Open Letter To President Bush On New Album").

Pink's 'Stupid' New Video Features Fake Breasts, Fake 50 Cent
'Stupid Girls' attacks the phenomenon of superficial pop-culture role models.
by Jennifer Vineyard
Pink in her video for "Stupid Girls" (Sony/BMG)
Pink's video for "Stupid Girls" is all about how fake celebrities can be, so it makes perfect sense that not everything in the video is real either - including co-star 50 Cent.
"I live in L.A., so it's obvious what I'm surrounded by.... I don't need to name names," Pink said recently (see "Pink Would Rather Fall Off A Car Than Get Glammed Up For Her Videos"), discussing how the song was inspired by how vapid Hollywood can be, and how young girls should aspire to more than their pop-culture role models represent.
In the Dave Meyers-directed clip for "Stupid Girls," then, Pink's surrounded by superficiality, and includes references to Paris Hilton's sex tape, Jessica Simpson's music videos, Mary-Kate Olsen's boho shopping sprees and Lindsay Lohan's car crashes. Pink reenacts them all as parody, falling off the hood of a soaped-up car and later crashing into pedestrians while on her cell phone, bothered only by the fact that it distracts her from applying more lip gloss. She shops at Fred Segal, buys a little accessory dog (touted to "stay younger longer") and tries to throw up in the restroom after boasting how few calories she can subsist on.
When Pink's not pretending to be these and other starlets, she plays herself, as she wonders if she should try to fit in - starting with her breast size. A special tab on her shirt, labeled "Pull in case of emergency," inflates her breasts while out on a date. She lies on a plastic surgeon's table with dotted lines marking other areas that could be modified. She runs on a treadmill at the gym as she tears off her clothes in an effort to keep up with the exercise-aholics next to her (with her "Die Hipster Scum" T-shirt giving away how she really feels).
The problem, Pink surmises, is that if we waste our time, money and energy on trying to be someone else's idea of fabulous, we waste our potential to be something better. Our priorities are askew, our ambitions misplaced. "What happened to the dream of a girl president? She's dancing in the video next to 50 Cent," Pink sings, as she dances next to a man who looks a lot like (but isn't really) 50 Cent.
Throughout the vignettes, a little girl sits holding her Barbie doll and channel surfs between TV shows on etiquette lessons and a political campaign (with Pink at the lectern). A Pink angel and a Pink devil appear on either side of her shoulders, planting thoughts in the girl's head to pull her in different directions, causing her to wonder along to Pink's lyrics, "Maybe if I act like that? ... Push up my bra like that?"
Ultimately she decides, "I don't want to be a stupid girl," and forgoes her Barbie doll to play with a football instead.

Pink Parodies Hilton, Lohan & Breast Obsessed Jessica Simpson
by Mike Baron
Jan 20, 2006
Pop punk princess Pink has launched a series of scathing attacks on blonde stars Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson, by mercilessly parodying their fame hungry lifestyles in her latest music video, according to a published report.
'Stupid Girls,' directed by Dave Meyer, has the 26-year-old singer spoof Simpson's music video for These Boots Are Made For Walkin', mock Hilton's sex tape scandal, poke fun at singer/actress Lindsay Lohan's frequent car crashes and imitate Mary-Kate Olsen's bohemian shopping trips.
While the parodies are more than obvious, Pink refused to clarify which of the party girls she is mocking, simply saying: "I live in Los Angeles, so it's obvious what I'm surrounded by. I don't need to name names."

PINK SLAMS BRITNEY FOR HAVING BABY
Pop star BRITNEY SPEARS is being slammed by rival songstress PINK for rushing into motherhood.
Spears has recently come under fire for holding her baby SEAN PRESTON in her lap while driving to avoid the paparazzi.
A friend of Pink's tells MSNBC's The Scoop, ""She's always been disgusted by the Mickey Mouser's values and just doesn't understand ( Britney's ) decision to rush off and have a child so quickly."
Pink, who recently married motocross star CAREY HART, took another swipe at Spears recently when a British tabloid asked her if she was going to have a baby soon. She replied, "(Bleep) no. I'm not gonna do a Britney and pop out some kids. I'm not a (McDonald's) Happy Meal.
"My husband's got the burger, but he's not getting the fries and shake to go with it."

Pink On Marriage And Politics
2006-03-12 10:37:19
Pink Wants Political Pop.
Pop star PINK will continue venting her political frustrations in songs, because she thinks it is the most effective way of making her voice heard.
MR PRESIDENT, a track on the pop star's latest album, I'M NOT DEAD, takes a swipe at US leader GEORGE W BUSH with the lyrics: "Dear Mr President/What do you feel when you see all the homeless in the street/Do you pray at night before you go to sleep."
Pink says, "This is one of the smarter songs I've written. My way is usually waving the flag and saying, 'You're wrong, burn in hell.' "This is subtle and provocative, and it's very innocent."
Meanwhile the star almost killed someone when proposing to husband CAREY HART on the side of a race track.
Motocross racer Hart was in the middle of a race when girlfriend Pink raised a pit board to ask him to marry her.
Hart was so startled he almost crashed into another racer.
Pink admits, "I picked up the pit board and asked him, 'Will you marry me?' "He had just passed someone on the straight and basically I almost killed somebody because he was so shocked."
Hart accepted Pink's proposal and they married in Costa Rica, in central America, in January (06).
The singer also tells how she was amazed when she first met husband CAREY HART's father - as he threatened to kill her if she broke the motocross champion's heart.
The JUST LIKE A PILL singer realised it would be safer to respect her future father-in-law's protective pleas than risk a row with the tattooed hunk.
But Pink admits her own dad was just pleased to have a new pal when she introduced the two men in her life.
She says, "When I met his dad for the first time, he took me aside and said, 'If you hurt my son I will kill you.' I was like, 'I can respect that.' "When I took Carey home, my dad just said, 'Hey, come and see my motorcycles.' "There was none of that protective stuff."

Pink's vet problems
8th January 2007 15:00:02
Pink's plans to create a number of mobile veterinary units have been thwarted by lack of government interest.
The singer, who is an ardent animal rights campaigner, wanted to open several travelling clinics to help stray dogs in various countries, but has failed to secure any government funding for the project.
She revealed: "I'm trying to put together a mobile vet service to go to places where there is a problem with stray dogs.
"The initial idea was to split the cost with whatever country we were going to, but governments don't seem to care about their animal problems."
Pink recently joined forces with PETA to urge people to boycott the Australian wool industry in a bid to force them to end their controversial practice of 'mulesing'.
Pink narrates a graphic PETA video showing workers performing the procedure - which involves cutting skin from around the rear ends of sheep to prevent fly infestations.
She said: "The wool trade uses methods so sadistic that it makes you consider clearing your closet of any animal products.
"I am calling on consumers to check labels on sweaters before buying them, and if they're merino wool or made in Australia, to leave them on the racks."

Gwen Stefani, Pink, Borat Team Up For 'Idol' Charity Special
'Idol Gives Back' poverty-relief benefit will air over two nights in April.
by Gil Kaufman
"American Idol" will launch an ambitious poverty-relief campaign in April with a two-night spectacular that is slated to feature performances from Gwen Stefani, Pink and Sacha Baron Cohen as Borat.
Host Ryan Seacrest announced the details of "Idol Gives Back" on Thursday night's results show, in which the final 12 contestants were revealed (see " 'Idol' Final 12 Celebrate With Simon; Antonella And Sundance Head Home"). The April 24-25 episodes are aimed at raising awareness and funds for poverty-relief organizations helping children in the United States and Africa.
The first night will find the top six finalists on the show singing "life anthems" about hope and compassion, with show sponsors Coke and AT&T donating money to charity for every vote cast via phone or text message. The next night's show will feature the celebrity lineup, also slated to include Annie Lennox, Josh Groban, Michael Bublé and pop-classical group Il Divo, which was put together by "Idol" judge Simon Cowell. During that show, viewers will also be able to make donations through toll-free phone lines and on the Internet.
The money raised from the special programs will be split between organizations including the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, the Global Fund, Save the Children, Nothing but Nets and Malaria No More. In the United States, the money will be focused on organizations that deliver programs to some of the country's most disadvantaged children, while in Africa, funds will be used to provide health and education programs.
"Idol" creator and executive producer Simon Fuller explained in a press release that he was approached several years ago to create a new televised charity event by screenwriter/director Richard Curtis, who runs BBC TV's annual African famine relief event Red Nose Day, which has raised $820 million to date. "After lengthy discussions it occurred to me that we should use 'American Idol' as an existing platform to premiere this idea," Fuller said. "Thanks to the huge support of Fox and the enthusiasm and energy of [the show's producers and hosts], it has finally become a reality. Red Nose Day is an extraordinary institution and I am hoping that 'Idol Gives Back' is an enormous success, raising awareness and huge amounts of money for all these wonderfully deserving causes, and allowing us to continue to make these important, world-changing shows for many years to come."
Bono was also bullish on the prospects of raising money through the most popular television show in the U.S. "We'll see worlds collide when Africa appears on America's most-watched TV show," he said in a statement. "This is a big deal, a little bit of pop history. ... I wouldn't underestimate the reach of this show or the impact its audience can have."

Pink's newest album goes back to her 'Missundaztood' roots
The hit single "Stupid Girls" has gotten Pink a lot of attention for
its commentary on how in today's culture women - especially aspiring
celebrities - are discouraged from showing intelligence and self-
confidence and instead pushed to just worry about their looks and
even dumb down themselves to fit the standards of a superficial
modern world. Pink's video for the song (which appears on her
current CD, "I'm Not Dead") makes the point to searing comedic
effect, as she lampoons the likes of Jessica Simpson and Paris
Hilton as airhead icons of modern womanhood. She spoofs the need for
fake breasts and plastic surgery, and in one particularly
provocative scene, depicts two young women forcing themselves to
vomit because they want to maintain their figures.

Those who tuned into Pink when her 2002 CD "Missundaztood" sold more
than five million copies in the United States (and 16 million
worldwide) shouldn't have been surprised to see her tackle the
subject.

In interviews at the time, Pink (born Alecia Moore) frequently
commented about how she was perceived as being outspoken, brash and
just plain difficult because she wouldn't play up to the pop
princess image of other starlets - a situation that she felt spoke
more about the prevailing culture than her own career.

It wasn't a subject, though, that Pink ever expected to be anything
more than a discussion point in interviews.

"I didn't ever think I'd write a song about it," she said in a
recent phone interview. "But one day I just walked into the studio
and there were 18 tabloids on the floor, and it just became too
much."

"Stupid Girls" has done a lot to put Pink back into the media
spotlight after her popularity took a major dip behind the
indifference that greeted her 2004 CD, "Try This." "Stupid Girls"
was a top 20 hit on a half-dozen pop and dance charts.

The native of the Philadelphia suburb of Doylestown first blazed
onto the scene in 2001 by collaborating with Christina Aguilera,
Missy Elliott, Lil' Kim and Mya on a version of Labelle's "Lady
Marmalade" for the "Moulin Rouge" movie soundtrack.

Then came "Missundaztood, " which racked up stratospheric sales
behind the omnipresent hit single "Get The Party Started."

The album proved to be quite a reinvention - and vindication - for
Pink after her first CD, the 2000 release "Can't Take Me Home," had
leaned toward the radio-ready hip-hop/soul flavored dance-pop of
singers like Britney Spears and Aguilera.

That formula worked, as the debut CD produced a pair of top 10
singles, "Most Girls" and "There You Go," and sold two million
copies.

But Pink, 27, wasn't going to settle for more of the same. She
branched out musically to create a genre-busting CD
in "Missundaztood" that touched on everything from sassy dance-rock
("Get The Party Started") to the driving pop of "Don't Let Me Get
Me" to the grooving R&B-laced balladry of "Eventually. "

Initially, L.A. Reid, then the head of Arista, was not pleased.

"When I recorded 'Missundaztood, ' everyone told me it was s--- and I
was crazy and it wasn't going to work," Pink said, recalling the
blunt assessment of the CD.

Eventually, though, Reid got behind the CD, a move that paid off
with the staggering sales of "Missundaztood. "

But the 2004 follow-up, "Try This," was a whole different story,
sales wise.

Musically, Pink once again showed her spirit of adventure by
collaborating on several tracks with Tim Armstrong, frontman of the
punk group Rancid, and maverick electro/dance rock artist Peaches on
a number of tracks.

But this time, the music didn't connect, and "Try This" fizzled out
at about 700,000 in stateside sales.

Pink, though, doesn't consider "Try This" a failure. In addition to
offering some stylistic stretching, the album also gave her an
emotional breather from the heavier thematic music she had written
for "Missundaztood. "

"For me it's all emotional," Pink said of her lyric writing. "But
for 'Try This,' I was just having a breezy, easy good time. I needed
a break from the therapy that 'Missundaztood' was."

"I'm Not Dead" brings back more of the emotional depth
of "Missundaztood" - as well as the varied mix of rocking pop, dance
pop and hip-hop flavored tracks that has come to be Pink's
signature.

In fact, Pink considers "I'm Not Dead" to be her most personal album
to date. One such song that hits close to home is "Who Knew," which
touches on both a broken friendship and the death of another friend.
The title song, meanwhile, delves into what a person gains when a
romantic relationship falls apart.

"I'm Not Dead" also shows a topical side, not only with "Stupid
Girls," but on the song "Dear. Mr. President," which is essentially
an open letter to President George W. Bush that is critical of his
policies.

Pink figures to showcase some of her new material on a winter/spring
tour opening for Justin Timberlake with a show that will focus on
music and not flash.

"This show is really just about music and having a good time," she
said. "It's just me having incredible musicians, and it's just about
playing songs and fun covers and just having a psychotically good
time."

Pink & Carey Hart's 'Rowdy' Romance
How do Pink and her motocross racer husband Carey Hart keep things
romantic despite their hectic schedules? Text messaging and ... dirt
bikes, he tells PEOPLE.

"It's pretty tough because we both travel," Hart, 31, said on
Wednesday night at a launch party for Verizon's new Casio G'zOne
phone in New York City. "[There is] a lot of text messaging and we
call like three or four times a day. We stay very connected."

Hart, who wed Pink, 27, in January 2006 in Costa Rica, recently
opened three new tattoo shops and is in the midst of a "comeback
year" with his motorcycle racing. His wife is just as busy: She's
currently on a 34-city North American tour with Justin Timberlake.

"But no matter what I've got going on I always try to find a week
out of the month to go see her," said Hart, which he did to
celebrate their first anniversary in January: "We took a nice bath
and hung out together and that's about it."

What else do they do to keep their romance alive?

"Random hotels don't hurt," Hart said. "That always keeps it fun. We
are kind of boring and kind of wild. Or we'll go camping and get
drunk and get rowdy."

Their last trip was to Northern California, where the pair
usually "rent motor homes and bring out our dirt bikes and bring the
dogs and just ride motorcycles and be full rednecks," Hart
said. "It's pretty rad."

At home in Los Angeles, it's skateboarding on their backyard skate
ramp, barbequing and hosting friends at their place. "We're very
much homebodies," said Hart. "Especially in the whole whack scene of
L.A."

Back in New York City, where he was hosting the Verizon event at
downtown hot spot One Little West 12th, Hart was hanging out with
friends and awaiting the arrival of his wife.

Pink, wearing a sexy black halter dress, made her entrance into the
VIP section of the party and asked, "Can I steal my husband for a
minute?" Hart stood to embrace his wife and gave her long, romantic
kiss, which inspired a round of applause from onlookers.

"They haven't seen each other in a couple weeks," said a pal. "They
live the life of rock stars." The couple settled into a corner
booth, where they cuddled as they sipped cocktails, setting their
glasses down for the occasional kiss.

Pink Quits Smoking And Starts Working Out
Pop star Pink has created her very own bootcamp work-out in an effort
to keep her body toned and fit. The Trouble singer runs and meditates
daily, but she thinks her love of wine is the secret to her good look.

She says, "I run 60 minutes a day, I do an hour of yoga and then I
drink a lot of wine - I think that helps, I honestly do."

And Pink has just quit smoking so she can concentrate on being as
healthy as possible.

Also on the pop front this week is Pink's first DVD, "Live From Wembley Arena - London, England." We have no idea where the concert footage is taken from, but we do know that it was taped December 4 and that a hefty 20 performances are featured, including "Dear Mr. President," "The One That Got Away" and "I'm Not Dead."

They will air on future "Idol" broadcasts, according to TMZ's source.

Pink Eyes Aussie Move
American singer Pink is planning a move to Australia after falling in
love with the country while planning for her seven-night tour there.
The pop star - real name Alecia Moore - and her husband, motocross
champion Carey Hart, have discussed making a home in Sydney or
Melbourne.

She says, "I have always felt (love) here but this is just out of this
world.

"I've always connected here, there's something about Australia that
agrees with me. I'm getting a real education on Australia on this
trip, getting to spend time in Sydney and Melbourne, I'm understanding
a lot more what this country is and why I like it so much and where
I'd want to be if I moved here."
