Discuss the Armored Clad Avenger who has teamed up with the likes of Spider-Man & others.
Iron Man Delayed
Nick Cassavetes, who was reportedly in line to direct the film version of Iron Man, has still not signed a deal to helm the Marvel Comics adaptation, leading New Line to delay its expected release to 2007 from 2006, Variety reported. Last November, New Line and Marvel announced that he was on board, but Cassavetes (The Notebook) has not held talks to direct the film for several months, the trade paper reported.
Cassavetes is still working on a rewrite of the script by Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, with David Hayter, the trade paper reported.
Cassavetes is still in the running to direct, and New Line remains committed to making the film. But with no director on board and casting yet to begin, New Line has delayed the movie's planned release.

In the new indie drama Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus, Robert Downey Jr. is covered from head to toe in luscious fur, but when ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! spoke to Downey Jr. about the movie, we were more interested in another suit he will be wearing soon, one of armor in Jon Favreau's Iron Man.
"The suit for 'Iron Man' is so complex and does so much stuff that except for once or twice or from the chest up, I'm not required to do all that much," Downey Jr. told us when asked if he'd been fitted for the armor yet. "What I will do is a lot of motion capture so that the movement isn't just some random stunt guy. A lot of time I look at CGI and I'm like 'What's the reference for this? This looks like a cartoon reference not a person." So I said I want to do all the motion capture work, which is like eight months after finishing shooting, but as much as it as I can do, I will."
"I went after it like a greyhound after a rabbit," he said when asked whether Favreau approached him or whether he went after the part. "I loved Marvel and 'Iron Man' to me is the goods. To tell you the God's honest truth, I'd thrown them all away for Sgt. Rock, because I really grew up on Hogan's Heroes, Sgt. Rock. I'm still addicted to the History Channel and the Military Channel is my thing, but Tony's the best because I could never be Sgt. Rock. He's a little bigger and more butch and has a cigar, I don't see it. Tony's a perfect fit for me, and if I was ever going to do this type of thing, I thought, you know, like early '40's. Great, because when you hang up your 'macho hat' and start directing or doing other stuff, it's not an embarrassment to be doing this in your late '40s still if we wind up doing three of them."
He also said that there would be some major casting announcements soon including Tony Stark's secretary Pepper Potts and one other, but he couldn't let the cat out of the bag despite being excited about the chance to work with the actors.
Iron Man is scheduled for May 2, 2008, but you can see Downey Jr. in Steven Shainsburg's Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus, which opens in New York and Los Angeles this week, and check out the rest of our interview with Downey Jr. here at ComingSoon.net in the next week.

Bridges Steeled For Iron Man
Jeff Bridges has joined the cast of Iron Man, the first feature film to be produced independently by Marvel Entertainment, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jon Favreau is directing the movie, which Paramount Pictures will distribute, the trade paper reported.
Robert Downey Jr. stars as armor-clad superhero Iron Man and his alter ego, billionaire industrialist Tony Stark. Bridges will portray a confidant and close business associate of Stark, a longtime employee at defense contractor Stark Industries, who plays a major role in shaping Stark's life.
Bridges' boarding marks the fourth Academy Award-recognized actor signed on for the Iron Man cast, which in addition to Oscar nominee Downey includes nominee Terrence Howard and Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow. Bridges, a four-time Oscar nominee, will be seen in A Dog Year and has a voice role in the upcoming animated film Surf's Up.
Filming on Iron Man is scheduled to begin in March in Los Angeles, with a planned release date of May 2, 2008.

Bridges Is Iron Man's Stane
Jeff Bridges told SCI FI Wire that he shaved his head bald for the role of Obadiah Stane in Jon Favreau's upcoming Iron Man film, which he is now in the middle of shooting. Bridges said that his bald look and silver goatee were for the role of the mentor of Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.), who becomes Iron Man. Bridges wouldn't say who the villain in the movie is: "You'll have to wait to see who that is," he said in an interview at a press event at Sony Pictures on March 8 to promote his upcoming animated film, Surf's Up.
In the Marvel Iron Man comics, Obadiah Stane is a ruthless corporate executive who eventually becomes the villainous "Iron Monger," Iron Man's nemesis.
As for the film, Bridges said: "I think that what always attracts me to a project is the team that glues it together, and this is a fantastic team that includes Terrence Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow and Jon Favreau." He added: "What I like about the story of Iron Man is that he's not a typical superhero, where he has all this power. It's interesting, because this involves corporations and science and that kind of thing." Iron Man is in production with an eye to a May 2008 release.

Favreau Updates Iron-Man Prep
Iron-Man director Jon Favreau wrote on his MySpace.com blog that things are moving forward on his movie adaptation of the Marvel Comics franchise.
"First off, the sets are all being built, the locations are locked, and the cast is, for the most part, set," Favreau wrote on March 4. "As you all know, RDJ [Robert Downey Jr.], Gwyneth [Paltrow], T [Terrence] Howard and Jeff Bridges are all on board. We've had a week of rehearsals, and I'm currently working with the writers to tailor the material accordingly. Mr. Bridges has a haircut that will no doubt be of interest to any of you fans of the books."
Favreau added: "Second, I am going up to visit ILM [Industrial Light & Magic, which is doing the film's visual effects,] and the [Skywalker] Ranch. I've never been and am as stoked as any of you can imagine. I love my job.
"Thirdly, Stan Winston Studios has been unveiling suits for us," he said. "Once again, they have exceeded our expectations. Those of you who follow my career know that I am very skeptical about the overuse of CGI. I am happy to report that the film will be a healthy mix of both computer-generated and practical effects. My goal is to make the two integrate in a way that they usually do not."
Favreau said that he, Marvel Comics editor Joe Quesada and writer Adi Granov are collaborating on a "very cool project that you will soon be hearing about." Iron-Man is eyeing a May 2, 2008, release.

Movie File: 'Iron Man'
With "Spider-Man 3" on the verge of release and the "Fantastic Four" sequel right behind it this summer, attention is shifting to Marvel's soon-to-shoot comic adaptation of "Iron Man." With the studio staying tight-lipped, the biggest question on geek minds these days is who star Robert Downey Jr. will be battling. So, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, we'd like to present Exhibit A. "I play Obadiah Stane," a shockingly bald and bearded Jeff Bridges told MTV News this week, finally revealing his character in the movie. "He's kind of a mentor [to Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man]." According to the classic comics, Stane is a billionaire industrialist who excels at manipulating his opponents and eventually gets close enough to Stark to pull a hostile takeover on his company, Stark International. If director Jon Favreau stays true to the story line, Bridges will eventually build his own Iron Man suit, become Iron Monger — the movie's villain! — and drive Stark to alcoholism in the sequel. "[Stark] is a fella who is the son of a very famous arms dealer," Bridges said of the script. "He gets captured and he builds this incredible suit. ... He's kind of like a superhero, but he's based pretty much on reality." Bald dude Bridges begins shooting soon, alongside Downey, Terrence Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow. Bridges will also be heard — but not seen — in the animated penguin flick "Surf's Up," which opens June 8. ...
