Title: Yellow Galaxy Ranger Sighting

Purple Ranger 14 - April 15, 2005 01:20 PM (GMT)
Cerina Vincent, aka Maya The Yellow Galaxy Ranger, was on this past Thursday's CSI as an EXTREMELY HOT LOOKING Car Model. She is the third Lost Galaxy star to appear on the show with Valerie Vernon appearing as a victim in the Rollercoaster episode & Archie Kao being a recurring Guest Star as a dude who works in the lab.

Purple Ranger 14 - April 17, 2005 01:58 PM (GMT)
It's okay. I missed a lot of the episode with Cerina Vincent because I was watching a Yankees game.

Rainbow3x_KingKnight - April 17, 2005 08:59 PM (GMT)

Purple Ranger 14 - April 18, 2005 03:47 PM (GMT)
I'll ask my folks to get me that season on DVD for me when it comes out so I can see it.

Rainbow3x_KingKnight - April 18, 2005 04:57 PM (GMT)
how can you tell it is the three characters from Lost Galaxy b ? the same people who played them look so different on other shows.

Purple Ranger 14 - April 18, 2005 05:14 PM (GMT)
I know it's the actors because they show a list of Guest Stars after the first commercial break and Archie's name pops up A LOT, it helped him find his dad, and I saw Cerina's  name and I flipped. I heard that Valerie was on it at a forum I no longer go to (Don't Ask).

Rainbow3x_KingKnight - April 19, 2005 03:01 PM (GMT)

For the News-Sun

Thadd Turner is a nationally acclaimed western author who has penned many screenplays. On May 28, one of his works, "Treasure of Seven Mummies," began shooting at the Mescal Movie Studio. Turner is serving as executive producer of the feature-length film.

Not a typical western

Turner, who lives in Hereford, describes the film as an action/thriller/horror movie with an old-west twist. The inspiration for Turner's screenplay is the legend of the Lost Gold of Tumacacori.

"I've heard the tales of treasure being buried during the 16th century at the Spanish Missions in what's now southern Arizona," said Turner, 44. "My story starts with the premise that in the 1880s, a mining town named Mescal is built over the ruins of one of those missions," explained Turner.

When some gold miners go in search of the buried treasure, they unwittingly unearth seven mummies. The movie evolves to a modern-day setting with a group of escaped convicts hiding out in Mescal, who hear tales of the buried treasure.

Economic impact

Unlike many production companies who commute to Tucson during filming, Turner's crew and main cast are staying in Benson. Some filming is also being done at Gammons Gulch.

Turner estimates that close to $500,000 will be spent in the greater Benson area from pre-production and filming of Treasure of Seven Mummies. This includes hotels, dining, shopping, tourism, salary for area crew members and wages for extras.

At the Horse Shoe Restaurant & Lounge, the increased business has been evident in the restaurant's bottom line.

Purple Ranger 14 - June 1, 2005 05:46 PM (GMT)
"Normally, May is our slowest month," said owner Lorene Whaley. "But this year we've definitely seen a difference due to all the crew and cast members who've been in."

The same can be said for the Days Inn, where most of the rooms are reserved for cast and crew. "It's been very good business for us," said Ravi Kumar, the hotel's general manager. "They've been delightful guests and we're glad to be part of their experience in Benson."

Diverse cast

Veteran character actors Billy Drago (Untouchables; Pale Rider), Marty Kove (Karate Kid, Cagney & Lacy), and Danny Trejo (Spy Kids trilogy; Once Upon a Time in Mexico) are in the cast.

The female lead is 25-year-old Las Vegas native Cerina Vincent, who plays a modern day prison guard named Lacy. Vincent's acting credits include Not Another Teen Movie (2001) and Cabin Fever (2002).

She also had the role of the yellow galaxy ranger in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy. Those familiar with the WB Network series Smallville will recognize Adrianne Palicki.

She's Supergirl on the show; in Treasure of Seven Mummies she plays a saloon girl named Isabelle. Other principle actors include Matt Schulze (Fast & Furious; Torque) and Billy Wirth (Lost Boys; Body Snatchers). Noted rapper Noriega (aka Vincent Santiago) plays one of the escaped convicts.

Cast includes Arizonans

While most of the production team hails from California or New York, several of the crew, stuntmen and extras are from southern Arizona.

In the first 10 days of filming, about 30 locals have been used in scenes as extras or stuntmen. More are expected to be used before the end of shooting.

Stunt Coordinator Jeff Prather of Sonoita faces many challenges. In keeping with the old-west theme Prather must choreograph a large saloon fight. And in keeping with action/thriller tradition, there will be plenty of blood and even a demonic horse.

Desert filming challenging

Director of Photography Patrick Loungway most recently worked on The Alamo.

On this shoot, his main concern is with the bright sun which creates problems with high definition video. There's also a lot of nighttime filming, which requires different lighting setups. The crew was excited by the recent full moon during filming, which provided a nice touch to the mummy theme.

Purple Ranger 14 - June 1, 2005 05:46 PM (GMT)
Jeremy Frindel, of New York, is serving as the sound director. The location of the Mescal set poses many challenges for his sound team. "Our microphones pick up all of the desert wind, and of course the train horns," notes Frindel, who recently worked on the HBO special Everyday People.

Noise from aircraft can also create problems, especially when several fighter jets flew over during maneuvers last week. "We just have to stop filming and wait it out," explained Frindel. "There's no way we can edit those sounds out."

Independent film

Ryan R. Johnson, president of Pretty Dangerous Films, is co-producer of the film. His company is working on another of Turner's screenplays The Last Horseman, and it was Johnson who recommended director Nick Quested to Turner.

"Nick really understands the story, and he's a strong director," said Turner of Quested, who started out as a director of music videos. "He's also well liked by the cast and the crew, and has put together a great staff. That makes things a lot easier when we're spending long, hot days on the set."

As executive producer Turner would prefer his movie receive a PG-13 rating so the largest possible audience sees the film. But as the screenwriter he put great effort into creating graphic scenes that will probably earn the film an R rating.

"Sometimes I would ask myself what I could do to make the scene really scary, really intense," recalls Turner. "And the language has to be pretty rough, to match the characters." Filming will continue throughout June, with post-production and editing work expected to take three to four months. Turner plans to have a movie trailer available for the Toronto Film Festival in September, and projects an early 2005 release date.
